Yet more rumors reached the lake. Rumors of yet another beast that wandered the wilderness of the Rukongai. Surviving alone against the wilds and monsters that dwelt within them. Yet again he felt the compulsion to seek the creature out in hopes to learn something new about himself. In hopes of gaining something. Once again the stories came from passing Shinigami. The stories he heard had piqued his interest. Umaroth, in curiosity and boredom, decided to head out to try and find the creature. He only had a direction. He didn't have an exact destination. All he knew was the direction to start walking. He would follow his instincts, because why would they lead him astray?
The dark scaled reptile pulled himself from the murky depths of his lake late at night once the preparations had been complete. His tail dragged itself effortlessly through the mud. Feathers dripped with lake water. A collection of fish was tied, with a cord through their gills, around his shoulder. What looked to be a rudimentary canteen was resting on the shore, looking to have been made from hardened mud. Umaroth had built it himself. He'd seen the things that the humans drank from when they needed to travel and spent some time creating one himself. It was...poorly made. Certainly not beautiful to look at. Lumpy and disproportionate as it was. But it stored the water he needed, and even had a lid.
Umaroth was choosing to set out alone for this. While travelling with Nesr and Lisa would have been enjoyable, he believed this to be a task better done by himself. Umaroth was going out in search of a Beast-Clansmen. If the reptile stumbled into its territory with his pack it might send the wrong message. But what was he looking for? From what he heard from the Shinigami, they'd only been investigating tales of fishermen being attacked or going missing. It wasn't much to go on. For all he knew he could be walking into a Hollows territory. But it didn't add up when he thought about it. Hollows were aggressive hunters always looking for food. Why would a Hollow just remain camped in one spot? Maybe he heard wrong. Maybe he didn't. It was worth investigating.
It took two days before Umaroth finally reached someplace that wasn't just woods. He'd run out of fish and had begun resorting to hunting game. With a raccoon in his stomach he didn't have to worry about eating for a little while, but wasn't entirely comfortable with sleeping out in the open. He wanted to find somewhere safe to call it quits for the night. But what he stumbled upon caught him by surprise. He actually smelled it first before he saw it. Water. His walking hurried as he picked up the pace to find the source of the scent, and what he did find surprised him. A lake. In the middle of the woods. As if it were isolated from the world. He spotted various channels, hidden by brush and trees, meaning that the lake was open for new things to swim in and out of.
His feet splashed the surface as he got close, and immediately began drinking. Oooh. It tasted a little different than his own lake. But wasn't anything horrible. Snorting, the reptile raised his head back up to look across the body of water. The sun was getting low and soon it would be night. This would be the best place to stay for the night before he decided to start going back to his own lake, and his pack, in the morning. He'd travelled far enough. But entering a new, strange, body of water meant that Umaroth would need to be careful. There was always the possibility something was beneath the tea colored surface. Narrowing those blue eyes, the reptile grumbled before slowly sliding himself into the water.
It was entirely different world beneath the surface. Sunlight bled through the rippling surface to provide just enough light for him to see. The nictitating membrane that covered his eyes so they were not bothered by the water did little to bother his vision. Even if there wasn't any light at all he wouldn't have any problem seeing since his vision was exceptional. A few bubbles danced out from his nostrils as he prepared to dive, satisfied that nothing was rising up from the depths to snatch him as he glided across the surface. But even if something was in the lake and attacked him...he was sure he could handle it. Eyes narrowing softly, the reptile aimed his head downwards. Like a rocket he propelled himself downwards with one stroke of that tail.
It was deeper than his. That caught him by surprise. Umaroth actually halted when he hit the thermocline, the sudden shift in water temperature. Should he continue? Did he simply happen upon a much deeper part of the lake? No. He needed to reel in the curiosity. He wasn't here to investigate the lake to make it a new home. He instead chose to relocate to a shallower part of the lake. Turning away from the dark and cold depths, the reptile sped off in a different direction. Finding what he was looking for, and snacking on a too curious fish, he began to settle himself in by shoving his legs into the mud. Should he fall asleep underwater the max amount of time he could go without breathing was two hours. He didn't need to worry about drowning because his brain would remain half awake and would wake up him up to surface when it was time. Still, he wasn't entirely comfortable sleeping in a strange new body of water...but it was better than out on the shore.
