Name: Thanatos Maelthra
Age of Death/Rebirth: 24
Real Age/Age of Appearance: 254/24
Birthday (Month/Day): 07/01
Blood Type: A-
RP Sample (Optional):
Grains from the endless desert of Hueco Mundo danced under the moonlight tonight, pushed on by the winds cast by reiatsu explosions. It was a rare sight but it seems some Adjuchas decided to settle there dispute with violence and although both weak creatures, the even match between the too caused a drawn out and spectacular show. Thanatos sat at a distance, paint brush in hand as he observed the myriad of colors caused by explosions of Cero, the off-cast shadow from the light and the splatter of blood against pale sand. It was truly a beautiful sight, the carnage and hatred melding together to form a painting so grandiose and natural that, a master artist even as he could only ever dream of coming to matching. But that wouldn't dissuade Thanatos from trying. Life is a constant struggle to improve upon one's faults after all and what is art but a beautiful representation of life? His piercing yellow eyes bounced back and forth from the clash in the sand back down to the parchment he held, his hand making rapid but precise strokes, every once and awhile dipping in a cup of water to rinse and replace with new color. The picture that was starting to form was a beautiful caricature of the battle. The claws and cero blast were exaggerated in this particular piece, giving the fight a much more intense visual impact, making those who view this picture think these creatures much more powerful than they actually are perhaps.
Lost in his own little world of art and joy, he was oblivious to the obvious danger, minute that it might be to a being such as him of the raging battle he witnessed. It was steadily growing closer and the two Adjuchas were too wrapped up in there own bitter rivalry to even realize the Arrancar was there in the first place. Too ignorant to there surroundings. Soon after as the clash drew closer, causing sand to be thrown further into the atmosphere of Hueco Mundo, an ill-fated Cero blast shot forth towards Thanatos. He was far too engrossed in his own work to even notice, so was unable to move in time. The Cero blast impacted with explosive force right next to where Thanatos was sitting. Although his natural Hierro protected him from such a weak Cero blast, he could still feel the heat as the energy lapped at his skin. More importantly however, the art he had been working on and the supplies such as paint and brush were not so lucky to have a natural defense. They were turned to ash in an instant and Thanantos' hand was left drifting over nothing but air. Slowly putting his hands down into his lap while a frustrated sigh escaped his lips Thanatos' attention turned fully to the two fighting creatures. Standing to his feet he allowed his Reiatsu to flare out in a burst to get the creatures attention. The two adjuchas assuredly could feel the gravitational field created by his power at this point and in doing so stopped the fighting immediately to instead turn and look at the Espada.
"Now that I have your attention" Thanatos started as he looked down to brush off some of the sand blow upon him by the two beast battle, as well as his right hand soothing stroking over the edges of his hollow hole, hidden underneath his white Espada uniform in an attempt to soothe his frustration. Suddenly his hands flew out to the side as he said at the top of his vocal range "Allow me to introduce myself my dear gentlemen, my name is Thanatos Maelthra and I am an artist who was observing your bout just now! Glorious, really such fantastic colors and melodies you two created.." Thanatos' voice trailed off the end, hinting at a bit of sorrow his hands pulling into his chest with closed fist to further illustrate the point. He looked down at where his painting and supplies had once been, motioning his left hand to point at the area. "I was in the process of recreating it in a beautiful piece you see..But it seems one of you is...a brute." The last two words bathed in malice and accompanied by yet another release of his Reiatsu. Sighing and putting two fingers to the top of his head as he regains his momentary lost composure, Thanatos would continue
"Forgive me, I'm not one to lose myself like that generally, but the won-ton destruction of art is one of the few things I just find completely unacceptable. Not just my art, any art." Thanatos opened his eyes once more as he relaxed his posture again, moving his piercing gaze from one Adjuchas to the other. "One of you committed a heinous crime. Whoever fired that last Cero is solo responsible for the destruction of my beautiful art. Which one of you? Fess up now and justice shall be swift." Thanatos' eyes moved from one hollow to the other. Neither were trying to make a move, more than likely fully aware of the situation they were in. The Adjuchas on the left was a tower 6'7" muscular and humanoid looking, only betrayed by it's elongated claws and shark looking mask. The one on the right looked like a bear, roaming around on all fours. Both of them had multiple burns and cuts from there extended fighting, neither one in particularly good condition, much less in good enough condition to stand up to an Arrancar of Thanatos' level. Even if they were fully healed it would be a hard fight for them, hopeless in this particular instance.
A few moments of frustrating silence passed as Thanatos' eyes darted from one to the other, his fingers stroking his chin as he pondered and thought about it. Suddenly he smiled and rolled his shoulders in a shrug, a slight chuckle escaping his lips. "Well, no matter. It's fine. Art, like life is beautiful but at times fleeting. So, I'll just make something new..something better." Thanatos spoke, his tone the same drawn out chill it always was as he began circling the injured Adjuchas hollows. The two of them looked at each other and started to chuckle out of relief, afraid they were about to have been killed. Perhaps deciding they should just cut there losses and take the good fortune, the two started to walk in separate directions, forgetting what they had been fighting about to begin with.
"Oh? Where are you two going? You're still responsible..you'll help me with my new piece of art. You should feel honored, it's rare I actually pick pieces out myself. You're going to help make Hueco Mundo a much more beautiful landscape." Thanatos said with a small smile as he moved his left wrist, shaking loose his sheathed Zanpakuto into his hand. What transpired next was over in an instant. Soft words muttered to release his powers and a few Sonido's later he had both of the injured hollows in the grasp of his white tendrils, plunged deep within there bodies and draining every ounce of there blood that they had. He watched gleefully through his jester like mask as they writhed and exanguinated slowly. Due to there previous injuries they had no hope of resisting or escaping. They were gazels, trapped by a cheetah. The resulting piece was beautiful in Thanatos' eyes, naming it "Tree bloomed by moon" The two bloodless husk of Adjuchas were twisted together with there limbs sprawled to look like tree branches. Thanatos had planted them into the ground and used there own blood to draw apples hanging from the "branches" and fallen around the tree. His only regret was his sketchbook was destroyed so he couldn't copy this down for later enjoyment. "Beautiful.." Where his last words before finally deciding to head back towards Las Nochas, thinking as he walked, about what supplies he should pick up from the human world.

-Appearance-
Height/Weight: 5'11", 150 pounds
Physical Description:
Standing in at an average height of 5 feet 11 inches, Thanatos doesn't look like single most opposing figure in the world. In fact, his general appearance and surface personality tend to mask the truth of his overall potential. His shoulders are not particularly broad and while he clearly has well toned muscles across his arms and abs, his thin frame manages to mask the fact making him look much frailer than he actually is, at least at a glance. His hair is long for a male, going down about an inch past his shoulders in the back although he keeps it shorter in the front. Thanatos' hair is also layered with the bottom layer being dyed white, contrasting with the raven black of the rest of his hair. His eyes have a natural sharpness to them, giving him that thousand yard piercing gaze that people find astoundingly attractive or disturbing. The iris of his eyes are a bright golden color, not unlike "Sith eyes" for anyone out there who is a star wars fan. He is fully aware of how piercing his gaze can be and very often uses that to his advantage in conversations with his fellow Arrancar and even conversations he would have with the enemy, either attempting to intimidate or lure into a false sense of security, depending on how they perceive him.
On his left arm are two straps which are used to hold the scabbard of his dagger-styled Zanpakuto, with a strip hanging low that would allow for a "quick release" pull from his left hand, just in case he needed the weapon fast as opposed to having time to draw it with the right hand. His hollow hole rest in the chest towards the left breast, going right over where his human heart once was beating. He often strokes his fingers across the edges of his hollow hole when he is pondering something important, it was a habit he had from the start of things. He wasn't sure why but it had a calming and peaceful effect on him, similar to how a child is when they get there hair stroked. Another oddity with Thanatos is he struggles greatly with eye contact when it comes to conversation. He, simply put overthinks things and can't figure out the natural length to look someone in the eyes, so he always ends up either looking all around a room, trying not to make awkward contact or ends up staring. This tends to be off putting to most people, although it's hardly the thing that drives them away from him.
Thanatos also has trouble with smiling, unsurprising perhaps for one who has to act out emotions as opposed to the rest who actually feel them. He constantly has to tell himself mentally or out loud when to make certain gesters such as smiling or looking sorrowful, because it doesn't come natural to him and for those who are particularly perceptive, it's not hard for them to tell he is insincere about it. While on the surface his gesters may at time look genuine, most people who interact with them would end up with an odd, uneasy feeling about the things he says or how he carries themselves. It's instinctual, most people can tell when someone is putting on airs and the fact someone is lying, even if they don't know about what, puts people in an uneasy mood, generally speaking.
As for his attire, it is pretty standard Arrancar/Espada affair. White robes which have black marks highlighting down it, with a black sash to tie it all together, white socks and black laced sandles. Above his right eye and going across his forehead and just behind is ear are the remnants of his hollow mask. Under his layers of hair, on the high part of his forehead is also where one will find the mark denoting his rank within the Espada, a large and curved 6 for the moment, though anything could change in the future. Other small items Thanatos tends to keep on him are a lighter, paint brush and a small compact thing of paint. He picked these up in the human world one day and takes "walking" trips down there to replenish his art supplies when he needs to. It's not uncommon for Thanatos to be found painting on the walls of his room or when he can get away with it, the dreary walls of Las Nochas. He also has a habit of 'marking' people with his special signature when he is upset with them, a sign and reminder to make them art sometime into the future.
Lastly, as a fan and patron of the arts Thanatos is a very dramatic speaker. Although his dialog is cold and tame his movements tend to be over emphasized, speaking heavily with his hands and allowing them to convey the emotions he is supposed to be feeling. He does this for two reasons. First, he enjoys theater and theatrics in general, so it's some what fun for him. Secondly, it sometimes distracts people away from his overall insincerity, keeping all but the attentive distracted from the fact he doesn't actually feel what he says he feels. On the rare occasion he does legitimately feel something though, this changes. His movements calm but his voice and manner of speaking become enriched. For anyone who actually knows him, the difference would be shocking.

-Personality-
Dislikes:
1. Violence, a hilarious contradiction perhaps but what Thanatos does he does not perceive as violent but rather the betterment of the world around him. Needless violence he finds brutish, although he is not opposed to seeing the beauty within it either.
2. Extremely hyperactive people
3. Destruction of art. As an artist Thanatos loves art, even if it's art he personally doesn't take pleasure in. To desecrate any art is paramount to sacrilege.
4. Kenpachi - type characters. They represent the opposite of everything Thanatos loves. Destruction without creation, needless force, overkill, mindless bloodlust and power without cause or reason.
5. Liars are something Thanatos greatly hates as well. He is many things but a liar is not one and he finds the act not only weak and distasteful but also very unbecoming of any beauty the person might hold.
6. The number 6. He despises it, calls it an ugly number. He's not a fan of his current ranking.
7. Oppression. Thanatos is Chaotic, an artist. Even in his madness he is a free spirit and he respects the freedom of others. People who attempt to take that away either through forced rule or by legal doctrine is something he would most happily destroy. Not out of a sense of justice but out of a sense of self obligation
8. Clingy characters. For similar reasons to number seven, Thanatos is a man of freedom. Extremely clingy people restrict this and cause him great annoyance.
9. Extreme do gooders (see Lawful Good). He finds how they act pointless and a waste of energy and talent, wasting away potential for the sake of some rule book. It's personally insulting to him.
10. Hell. While he has never actually been, what he knows of it is more than enough for him to hate it. The ultimate restriction of freedom.
Likes:
1. Freedom
2. Any and all Art
3. Chaotic Neutral characters or any kind of free spirit
4. Children in general, due to there reorientation of innocence and freedom.
5. Sparring. Although he detest violence or rather what he considers violence, Thanatos considers martial skill it's own form of art, even in the name "martial arts". Thus he enjoys observing and participating in spars.
6. Clam chowder, his favorite meal when he is in the human world or when he can get a hold of it.
7. Soul Society. That's right, he finds it interesting. He doesn't care about the Shinigami or anyone who lives there mind you, but he loves the architecture, culture and arts that could be found there and not in his home of Las Noches
8. The number 3 is easily his favorite number, finding it's bending crescents and horizontal symmetry attractive.
9. He finds movies rather intriguing take on stage plays and enjoys them, especially to everyone's surprise, the sc-fi genre such as Star wars.
10. Nature, as with most any artist, he has a healthy respect for the world around him both spirit worlds and the physical planes.
Flaws:
Thanatos' one massive flaw is that he has a personality disorder. Although he can't remember his life as an early spirit nor his human life well anymore, the scars it left upon him are still very existent. His ability to easily feel and express emotions has been severly limited, resulting in him being forced to act out what he thinks he should be feeling in most situations. That isn't to say he is without emotions completely, he can feel them it's just extremely rare and restricted due to the walls he has built up in his mind for over two hundred years. This has also lead to a very warped world view with his one passion, art, becoming and obsessive outlet.
He wants to spread his art and the art of others to the world by any means possible because it is the only thing that has ever made him happy or at least the only thing that can currently make him happy in his very long life. This passion has devolved into obsession and combined with a subconscious impulse to cause pain and take revenge against others for the pain he feels. The end result is a twisted and warped world view where he does not process the things he does as negative, bad or even violent. He views the things he does as a service to everyone around him and the people he kills in the process as willful heroes who asked to be made into the art, to make the world a brighter and happier place. He is completely unaware and accepting of his own sadism and madness.
Outside of this however and due to the reality warping nature of his condition, it does mean that he is a legitimately nice person. He tends to care for the few people he gets close to and is intensely loyal to anyone he deems worthy of it. Malice isn't what fuels his murder and hidden rage, it is pain and untreated scars from long ago. But his relationships are generally short lived once people see the hidden side of him, mostly out of fear of becoming an unwitting victim, assuming they escaped in the first place.
Habits:
1. Extremely flamboyant in his hand gesters when he speaks, as if trying to paint a wordless picture to express himself.
2. He also has a nervous habit of stroking the edges of his hollow hole when he is stressed or upset, finding a sort of calming relief in the process.
3. Thanatos is also prone to sitting down and drawing anytime he sees people battle or something especially beautiful. He doesn't care if doing so is dangerous in the moment, so long as he captures the moment.
Fears:
1. Afraid to die alone. Not something he would readily admit to himself or anyone else but deep down, at the root of all his mental issues and problem that is what truly drives him in the darkest part of his repressed soul. He fears being alone and losing the few people he ever cared about, like he did his wife and Zenkai.
2. He fears the destruction of his vision. To put simply, he adores art and gets upset at it's destruction, no matter what the art or who the creator. But one thing he truly fears is the destruction of his overall vision, which is to bring art and wonder to every race in every place. Failure to succeed in this, haunts him at times.
3. Rejection of art. Thanatos fears, although he finds the possibility minute, that he will find someone who just hates art. Although it is a strong belief he holds that there is a piece of art for everyone, he fears one day he'll meet the one person whom is the exception. While highly unlikely, if it were to happen there is no telling how Thanatos would react. His world view, including the warped one he holds and disillusion would be challenged and likely shatter.
Goals:
1. Raise in rank within the Espada and get into the Soul Society to claim it's art for his own and to spread his art to the people there. He bears no ill will towards Shinigami in general but he wouldn't hesitate to fight any who raised there weapons to him.
2. Travel to the human world to better understand the origin of his love for art and to expand his vision to any he deems worthy or ask
Alignment:
Chaotic Neutral, teetering on evil. He isn't aware of his evil acts and has no ill intent or malice in his actions, with a geniun capability for good if he desired it. But for the most part he just tries to please himself and fufill his own desires, even under a selfless guide. But in the end, his actions can be evil, the things he does to victims being rather graphic and monstrous. I feel neutral is his best setting.
Aspect of Death:
Madness
Overall Personality:
To say Thanatos' personality is overall rather complicated is putting it lightly. On the outside looking in, he seems rather simple. He is a man who overall just wants to be happy and who's passion is art. He wants to spread that art to others not only to make himself feel good but in an attempt in some small way to brighten the world around him, hoping the art speaks to everyone else on the same deep level that it resonates with him every day. He is extremely respectful and detest violence without cause. Although it should be clear it is not a moralistic opposition to violence but more so a personal choice against it. Of course, that isn't the entire story as we all well know by this point.
Delve deeper into who Thanatos is and we come to find out he actually has quite the active dark side. His mind has been shattered and scarred for well over 200 years, suffering trauma after trauma which has turned him into a psychopath who lacks many of the basic emotions and the ability to truthfully express them. He's been like this for so long now, having to pretend to have emotions isn't even alien anymore, having become so normal he feels like almost everyone does it and it is just the way of life. His passion of art has become a demented, twisted obsession that has lead to him slaughtering people and turning them into living paintings and sculptures, having a grotesque aura of a serial killer. Yet Thanatos in his broken state of mind can't rationalize the wrong in what he is doing, in fact viewing it as a positive service to the world and the people he kills as willful volunteers.
Thanatos is not someone I would label as a "Bad guy" who is meant to be hated and reviled although I'm sure many in the end will because he has done and will continue to do twisted, evil things to people who did not deserve it. But rather his is the story of a once good man who through repeated and consistent trauma over a large period of time was worn down and turned into an absolute monster, not unlike the process of a soul going through hollowfication. Thanatos is product of hardship that the human mind wasn't designed to handle, he is a tragic and sad creature who is blissfully unaware of just how tragic his story is. That is who Thanatos is. Tragedy.
Tragedy.

-Powers-
Fighting Style:
Thanatos adopts an extremely adaptive style of fighting. He neither favors heavy defense nor heavy aggression, preferring instead to react to what the enemy does. Art, as he would explain, has many forms and to speaks to everyone from all walks of life but depending on the person, it'll take different art to speak to that part of the soul that matters. So, being an attentive artist, Thanatos observes his enemies so that he may paint the perfect picture, something that would bring true beauty to the situation. Even when he does fight, it's rarely direct as he doesn't enjoy violence nor getting his hands dirty, instead relying upon the ranged or manipulative aspects of his powers to get his paintings to do the work for him. If a fight was to close distance and forcing him into the melee, his style would shift very little, relying on defensive counter attacks and his paintings, if he could draw any at the time, to do most of the work for him.
In many ways, despite his serial killer like proclivities Thanatos doesn't enjoy fighting or violence. He is simply a transformative artist, doing his duty to ascend these beings to a higher state of existence, transcending them to godhood by his art. Fighting him, in his mind is simply volunteering yourself for the process. If he wants to fight you, it is not him wanting to test strength but rather offering you the rare honor of being personally selected for his special type of "Ascension." Which is why if he was to start losing, he wouldn't be scared of death..he would be angry. He would view the defiance to his powers as a personal insult, spitting in the face of his art and his offer. From his point of view, he's just trying to make the world a better place by making people better than they once were.
In many ways he can't process that what he is doing is killing and slaughter.
Zanpakutou Appearances: Thanatos' Zanpakutou when sealed moves away from the traditional katana style design that is most common among Shinigami and Arrancar. The hilt coming in at six inches long was highly ornate covered in a silver base, dotted with three blue gems up the center and with woven designs twisting all through out, looking similar to branches. The guard of the blade perked out only two inches to either side and curved up slightly like small horned tips, with the same branching design engraved into it, although no jewels where to be found on it. The blade itself made up the final ten inches, slender with a very slight bowing in the center of the blade giving it a very soft crescent curb, similar to an Janbiya, an Arabian styled dagger. The shealth of the Zanpakutou which rested up Thanatos' left sleeve was equally beautiful, being silver plated like the hilt with similar designs and dotted with small rubies.
Due to the small size of the blade, it clearly wasn't as capable in combat as the more common Katana styled Zanpakutou but it was much faster and as was commonly seen with daggers, much more precise a weapon. While Thanatos rarely ever used the weapon in combat, instead showing it off as more of an art piece to his fellows and even his enemies. Despite the many voices and desires that plagued him he was, after all an Artist before anything else and that was reflected greatly in his weapon and was used as such. However, this doesn't mean he was incapable of drawing the blade and slipping it into the heart of an enemy and was often how he'd choose to rid himself of exceptionally weak pest. If they were too weak to be worthy of art a swift slit would do away with them.
When he releases his Zanapkutou, the blade, hilt and scabbard completely shatter into visible silver looking particles that absorb into the hollow hole located in his abdomen as he re-absorbs the sealed powers. From there his hands up to his elbows split into countless thin tendrils, looking similar to the individual threads of a paintbrush. These tendrils have the ability to shape into any form Thanatos wishes along with being able to have each thread controlled individually, although they do keep there thread like texture even when reformed back into a normal working arm and hand. From his back sprouts a pair of large, hawk like wings similar to what he had when he was an Adjuchas. His hollow mask also fully reforms into an asymmetrical design. The left of the side had the eye portion turned like an upside down crescent moon and the mouth portion in similar fashion, giving the appearence of a being in deep sorrow, even crying. The right side of his mask was like a mirror, a flipped image with the eyes and mouth being turned upwards, looking joyful and elated.
Thanatos' Espada uniform also changes, melding together as it becomes a single piece of clothing, becoming something more akin to that of a single flowing robe, lengthening at the bottom to cover the feet from sight. The resulting appearance when he moves gives the illusion he is floating or gliding across the ground like a Phantom. The color of the new outfit is a unified white, like bleached bone. However it was not uncommon for Thanatos to turn a bright crimson red as a battle goes on, due to the nature of his power.

"Paint the world in Tragedy, Melpomene"
Overall Ability:
Overall, I'd describe this ability in two words: Living Renaissance. Thanatos from life, to death to his second life has always been and always will be a man of the arts and most specifically the practiced art of painting. I try to show this theme from his mask, uniform even down to the name of his weapon, Melpomene which is the name of one of the muses of Apollo, the greek god of the arts. The concept of the power is rather simple, in my opinion: It allows Thanatos to paint, bring those paintings into existence and then use them as he sees fit. If he painted a hammer, he'd have a hammer to use. If he painted a wall, he'd have a wall to hide behind. But it can get more complicated as well. He paints a solider who can fight for him with it's own weapon and movements that he controls. He can create a simple blob of blood with an excessively high density of Reiatsu to essentially create a blood bomb. The limiting factor of the power is the amount of mental control it takes to work it. While Thanatos is fully capable of multitasking, the fact is it is mentally and physically exhausting and I use this to balance things out.
If he does a lot of simple things like make weaponry or just walls, then he won't tire out extremely fast because it doesn't take much to do something so simple. But if he needs or wants to do a lot of the crazier things like making soldiers, bombs or morphing objects shapes and density, it requires a lot of additional effort which takes it's toll. It's a very straight forward power with very complex possibilities and a simple balancing mechanic that if misused could put the character out of commission for a VERY long time, even putting his life in danger if he overexerts. As for why i keep mentioning blood, to clear that up, it's what he uses for his paint. Most of the time his own but he can also use the blood of others. He absorbs it, mixes it with his reiatsu to take control of it and to power his creations then paints with it. Although he could technically use other materials, nothing is readily available as blood in battle and frankly it wouldn't make a difference to his ability. I just feel the blood and how he extracts his paint is fitting for his now warped personality. Besides, blood paint hold legends in Japanese culture that fit thematically here as well. I hope you enjoy the power, i am really excited about it.
Primera Etapa Overall Ability:
Melpomene's abilities are that of true self expression. Using his threaded tendrils to absorb blood (either form himself, enemies or allies, it matters not) he mixes it with his reiatsu, much like you'd mix dried paint with the right amount of moisture. From there he uses his tendrils like a paint brush, painting into existence anything he can think up. Soliders, weapons, walls, if he can draw it he can make it. The blood becomes a dense and solid energy mass when painted by Thanatos and comes alive, being able to be mentally or physically manipulated by him. As an example he could draw a sword then wield it or he could draw soldiers who then fight for him, perhaps even draw armor on himself and wear it as a protective shell. The individually controlled tendrils can move impartial from the others, allowing for extremely complicated drawings at rapid speeds which lends itself to Thanatos' mostly reactionary style of combat.
The tendrils themselves can also form into shapes by themselves, such as claws or back to his normal hand. However they are no place near as effective as the blood since they are on par with the rest of his flesh, although the added flexibility has plenty of possibilities within itself. The wings are also made from the same thready substance and have the same abilities. Although he generally keeps them as wings for the sake of the artistry, he can break them apart to assist in drawing, defense or even offense. The range of the tendrils however are rather limited, both on his back and his arms, extending only a few inches beyond what his original reach was. Although that means the tendrils on his back are overall longer than what makes his arms and hands up, the end result is the same which is why he prefers to use it for defense and his painting powers for offense. In the end, Melpomene allows Thanatos to do exactly what he does best and that is to spread his art for all to see..and to turn those he deems worthy into art itself. It's not uncommon for his victims to find themselves completely drained, there bodies positioned and posed in a masterful artistic setting, made from their own blood.
As for the objects Thanatos draws, he has full mental control over them, though what they do depends on the amount of his power he pours into his creations. As an example, something like a sword if he drew one would be simple and require only a little amount of his power, just enough to make it sturdy enough to strike and be struck without breaking. For something a bit more complicated though, like a solider he would naturally have to put in a bit more power since it would actively be moving. The more reiatsu he pours into it the more tiring it is for him but the faster it moves, the more it can do and the harder it is to overall destroy. As a last example, lets say he traps someone or something within a cage he drew around them. That wouldn't take too much, however if he wanted to change it to do something else, like lets say make the cage move in on itself to shoot bloody spikes into the poor victim, this would require additional input and would of course further tire him.
The lesson and point being, while he can do an astounding number of things ranging from the simple to the complex, it takes energy and it's toll. While Thanatos' art can be quite extravagant to do so comes at a cost and care wear him out rather rapidly if he controls himself poorly. Like any form of art, you get what you put into it.
Segunda Etapa Overall Ability (Optional):
N/A. Due to his mental state and "Freak" trait, he's actually unable to EVER obtain Segunda Etapa.
Zanpakuto Techniques:
Due to the free form nature of his powers, Thanatos doesn't have many 'special techniques' like the majority of other Arrancar and Shinigami. However his painting creations can be divided up into separate, specific and clear tiers each with there own strengths, cost and weaknesses.
1st. Opening act - the "Opening act" as Thanatos would often refer to it are his most basic of paintings and first "tier" if you will. These paintings make up the most numerous ones he does and also have the least amount of Reiatsu in them, generally having just enough to keep there shape or to clash against Zanpakuto. These paintings generally consist of inanimate objects such as walls, weapons or simple projectiles such as arrows. They have no particular special powers and their uses are limited to what one might expect from whatever the painting is. As an example, if Thanatos painted himself a sword he could then wield that sword as a weapon or use it as a projectile attack. He could also paint walls for defensive purposes or perhaps paint arrows to pelt at enemies from afar. These simple, basic toys are the most basic form. Although each painting takes up a small amount of Reiatsu to initially create, they have very little draw back from there initial cost and lack of destructive power.
2nd. Rising action - The "Rising action" is the 2nd tier of paintings and show a progression in complexity of his artistic vision. Wild and unstable in appearance paintings from this tier take more energy to make but have much more diverse uses and powers, although they do share a common telling visual element: They have a crimson flowing aura around them, a result of the circulating unstable reiatsu keeping them animated. Paintings within the 2nd tier have much more power than the first due to the higher concentration of reiatsu. However the real gift and trick to paintings from this tier are the ability to cause them to explode at will. This is due to the unstable flow of energy Thanatos puts within them. Aside from increased power and the explosions however, there is very little difference from the first tier. Still only simple objects can be painted, walls, weapons and shapes. Although the comparative power dwarfs the first tier, the energy is simply too unstable to work anything more complicated with this technique. Draw backs include the increased cost to paint these, can only be simple objects and Thanatos isn't immune to explosions.
3rd. Crescendo - The "Crescendo" is the 3rd and final tier of Thanatos' normal paintings, with the 4th being reserved for extremely special circumstances. The energy it takes to make paintings from this tier is rather large, but worth it. Although this tier has no special visual element like the 2nd to distinguish itself, it's very easy to notice when he paints something of this level due to the complexity of the painting and power it displays. Paintings from this tier are all rather complicated including: Humanoid soliders, Hollow-type paintings, very large 3-D objects such as cones and cubes. Paintings created with this tier are controlled by Thanatos telepathically and are, for lack of a better description, puppets. They are agile, fast and have painted weapons or claws more than sufficient to rip flesh from bone. The 3-D geometric shapes he can paint are also controlled and attack in similar fashion although they do so by morphing there shape to launch spikes or spin to use edges like sharpened blades, though they could also simply crush a person. Although extremely powerful they do have there draw backs, mostly in the toll to the user.
Due to the concentration and manipulation required to make them effective, Thanatos is only ever able to maintain three at once. Further more, along with there initial cost they have to be constantly maintained every two post due to there complicated nature. Failure to do so would result in the object simply falling apart and becoming useless.
4th. Final - The "Final" tier is a special type of painting and easily the most aggressive and powerful kind that Thanatos can create. However, to do so requires a very special condition to be met: It must be painted in the blood of the person it's targeting. Not there friend's, not Thanatos' or his allies and it must be a decent amount, not some small scratch. For the amount of blood required, they would have been decently injured already. Using this blood Thanatos would paint his Magnum Opus, a landscape style of painting that shapes the world around him and his target, trapping them essentially in a caged dimension sealed off from the outside world, in which he has full control of the area inside. To break out of or into this painted world Thanatos creates would require a large amount of energy that exceeds what he paid to create it in the first place, although it is obviously possible, just difficult. Draw backs inlude..
~Permission only ability, from the person it's being used on since it is likely a DP or DE situation. This isn't a skill used just for scaring someone.
~Large amount of the target's blood, meaning they'd have to be injured already
~Can be broken out of, if a large enough amount of energy is used..or broken INTO by someone on the outside.
~Requires a large amount of Reiatsu from Thanatos, enough so he'll probably be done for the day at the end of it. It's an all in type of attack.
Other Techniques:
Technique Name: [Sonido (Lit. Sound Step)]
Class: [4] - 7-1.
Technique Type: [Hollow Technique] - Kidou, Quincy Technique, Bount Technique, Human Technique, Hollow Technique, Other
Technique Element: [None] - If any
Technique Description and Effects: [What does your technique do? How strong is it? What is it's range of abilities? List these things below.]
A powerful technique, Sonido is a step that increases movement speed for a single step. Essentially, it magnifies the speed of just that one step, by 13 times. Each step for Sonido costs 100 Reiatsu. Additionally, this technique does not take up a technique slot.
How to use technique: [How do you use this technique? List below.]
Just use it and drain the Reiatsu.
Drawback: [What are the disadvantages and drawbacks of your technique? Don't forget that the drawback must be equal in strength to the technique. List everything related to the drawback below.]
Reiatsu cost.
Technique Name: [Hierro (Harden)]
Class: [3]
Technique Type: [Hollow Technique]
Technique Element: [Metal]
Technique Description and Effects:
Hierro is an Arrancar technique in which the user's reiatsu condenses, creating a steel-hard skin strong enough to block a Zanpakuto. This also allows them to fight some of the sword-wielding Shinigami barehanded. This technique guards against reiatsu based and melee techniques. If the user has 150+ reiatsu strength superiority to the enemy, then the user is totally undamaged by all attacks from the enemy. This means an Arrancar is essentially invincible based on Hierro for some time. At 75-149 reiatsu strength advantage, damage is very minor, but present. A large slash could be a tiny cut. At less than 75 advantage, there is resistance to damage from the Hierro. Small resistance.
How to use technique:
Always active. Doesn't use reiatsu to keep active, uses reiatsu strength for strength. Permanently active as soon as it is learned.
Technique Drawbacks
Must deactivate this to use High Speed Regeneration. Reiatsu is lost upon deactivation, reiatsu equivalent to the technique class, which is 3. 400 is lost upon deactivation. 400 is then also lost upon reactivation in the same thread. Final stage release bypasses Hierro automatically by default. (Bankai, Fullbring Stage 2, etc.) Vizard Bankai does NOT bypass Hierro. Vizards, even if they have not yet become full Vizards, must use their mask to bypass Hierro. Those facing Hierro can gradually adjust to it per combat hit against the enemy, though within a certain post limit. Let's say Person A has Hierro, and is fighting Person B. If Person B hits Person A twice with attacks, then after 8 posts of their combat have elapsed, then Person A's Hierro counts at 80% of its strength (100 Reiatsu strength would be 80). After 12 posts of combat, if Person A has been hit at least four total times, then Person B can now treat Hierro as if it is simply 60% strength (100 Reiatsu Strength woul
Cero (Zero) and Cero Variations
Technique Name: [Cero (Zero)]
Class: [4]
Technique Type: [Hollow Technique]
Technique Element: None
Technique Description and Effects:
Available only to Hollows or Arrancar of at least Gillian status, Cero is the signature technique of higher level Hollow races. This concentrates their reiatsu into a condensed blast of light which fires out, usually from the hands or similar body part, though many can use it from their chests, feet, mouths, or other appendages. Color is usually red, but many Arrancar have learned how to alter the color of their fired Cero. When charging it appears to be an orb, but when fired is a large, very wide beam. It has a distinct high-pitched sound when charging, and a very low growl when fired. Anyone can hear either, and thus discerning a Cero is very easy. In power, weaker Cero explode on contact with targets, but some Cero have enough power to keep going after hitting a target, and simply consume and disintegrate it.
How to use technique:
Aim body part at target and charge the technique, then fire. In speed, takes a few seconds total.
Technique Drawbacks
Reiatsu cost of 200, despite being class 4.
Technique Name: [Gran Rey Cero (Grand King's Zero)]
Class: [2]
Technique Type: [Hollow Technique]
Technique Element: Lightning
Technique Description and Effects:
An Espada-exclusive Cero of such great might that its use is forbidden while under the dome of Las Noches. It requires the user's blood to be used as a sacrifice to activate, but when activated is charged at about the same speed as a regular Cero. It is always blue in color, and appears to have the shape of a razor with several prongs. When fired, it zig zags at the enemy instead of firing in a straight line. While charging speed is the same as Cero, firing speed is three times that of Cero, and the actual destruction potential is twice the user's reiatsu strength.
Furthermore, the explosive power is so high that not even several Cero put together can rival it. This technique also releases a large mass of lightning and electricity not only upon firing, but on impact as well. The ferocity of the Gran Rey Cero is nearly unrivaled.
How to use technique:
Fire like a regular Cero, but only after also getting blood on the firing hand from its user. This is usable only by Espada. The secret to its use and why only Espada can use it are both unknown at this present time.
Technique Drawbacks
400 reiatsu cost and blood sacrifice. Can only be fired once per post, up to four times a day.
Technique Name: [Cero Oscuras (Black Cero)]
Class: [2]
Technique Type: [Hollow Technique]
Technique Element: None
Technique Description and Effects:
Whether or not this Cero or the Gran Rey Cero is the ultimate traditional Arrancar Cero is unknown. It has been speculated for several years in Hueco Mundo, but no definitive test has been able to prove it. Thus far, they have seemed quite equal. Cero Oscuras from an Espada #4 or higher is forbidden under the dome of Las Noches, but only because any Espada #4 or higher is prohibited from Ressurection under the dome anyway. This Cero is usable only by Arrancar in their released state. It releases an enormous, menacing black Cero several times the size of a regular one. It immediately obscures and removes all light from the area, so that all can be seen as it approaches is an all-consuming black.
Its charging speed and firing time are identical to a regular Cero, and it fires in a straight line. However, the explosive potential is considerably greater, and this Cero has twice the reiatsu strength of the user.
How to use technique:
Fire like a regular Cero while in a released state.
Technique Drawbacks
400 reiatsu cost.
Technique Name: [Garganta (Cave)]
Class: [4]
Technique Type: [Hollow Technique]
Technique Element: [None]
Technique Description and Effects:
A technique used by Hollows and Arrancar to move between the human world and Hueco Mundo, though Arrancar under the service of Las Noches have demonstrated the ability to use it to enter Soul Society as well. This opens a black tear in the air which resembles the gaping maw of a shark, and the inside of which is simply a void of shimmering black. Those inside create pathways made from their reishi, on which to walk to the exit. Some, who have mastered the Garganta, are able to create a reishi pathway which moves them rather than them having to walk along it, treating the Garganta like a sort of elevator to where they are going. This is a slow opening technique, and one that cannot be used in battle.
How to use technique:
The tear simply opens upon the user's will. This technique uses no reiatsu, but it cannot be used if the user is down to 0 reiatsu.
Technique Name: [Pesquis (Sight)]
Class: [5]
Technique Type: [Hollow Technique]
Technique Element: [None]
Technique Description and Effects:
An Arrancar exclusive technique that allows the user to cast a seeming "radar" for a one mile radius, allowing them to sense any and all beings that have reiatsu in the area, and tell how strong that reiatsu is, and even locate an enemy in battle. Vizards can slip through Pesquis during use of step techniques. Those of speed three or more times the user's can also slip through Pesquis. This allows a one mile radar per 50 energy sensory. Its accuracy also increases with higher levels of energy sensory.
The default version can sense location, general flaring and fluctuation of reiatsu, and basic movement.
How to use technique:
Focus. Lasts for 5 posts once activated.
Technique Drawbacks
In addition to diverting some of the user's focus, this technique can be fooled by mid to high level illusions, and step techniques which reach a speed at least 30% or more of the user's step speed can slip through Pesquis, seeming to disappear like a ghost off of the radar.
Birthplace: Tokyo, Japan
Current Residence: Las Noches
Memorable Figures: His former wife, although that memory has long faded and his dead best friend Zenkai.

{Chapter 1: Life}
The sound of soft and rapid pattering across the roof of his small suburban home was what awoke Michael from his regular seven hour slumber, a full hour earlier than expected. Looking over at the clock which mockingly read eight A.M he slammed his head back down on the pillow, letting out a frustrated sigh before turning his head to face his girlfriend, Miranda. Her lips were perked into the same sweet smile she always had when she slept, always so despicably peaceful. Michael couldn't stay annoyed after seeing that. Leaning over he kissed her softly on the head before hopping out of bed, getting dressed and fixing a meal for them. Despite the soft patter of rain awakening him early, today was a big day. He had an appointment with the local art gallery, they came across one of his sold paintings and wanted to talk about featuring some of them.
It was the chance he had been working towards for years, he could finally make some money and give Miranda the life she deserves, the one he knew she wanted despite her insistence she was perfectly happy in there meek little home. She deserved better and he planned to give it to her. It didn't take long for the smell of scrambled eggs, toast and fresh coffee to fill up the small house and rise his lover from her sleep. As they sat to enjoy there breakfast they discussed the plans for the day ahead and excitedly flirted with the idea of a better life. But, unfortunately none of this would come to pass.
Later in the afternoon while they were meeting with the heads of the gallery, a single masked man had entered and shot a gun into the air. He ordered everyone to the ground while a college of his who came in shortly after went around the room collecting wallets, phones..anything of value. The robbery was poorly planned however and one of the clerks at the front desk managed to push a silent alarm. The police force was there within minutes and the would-be thieves barricaded themselves inside, with the hostages. Negotiations went on for hours between the robbers and police but eventually things broke down. It was clear that they weren't making it out intact so they planned to take a hostage, use them as a shield and try to escape out the back. The one who had collected the wallets, phones and cash from earlier grabbed the curator who had been interviewing Michael. The leader, however decided to take Miranda.
Michael pleaded to take him instead, to leave his girlfriend alone but the robber wouldn't have it. Unable to handle the thought of the love of his life being put in that kind of danger, he couldn't control himself. He stood up and rushed the man who had his lover but he didn't make it far. He raised his gun and placed five shots into Michael's chest and gut. Michael collapsed instantly, rapidly bleeding out, his vision going dark as he stared up at his lover and killer. Before he slipped into darkness however, he got to witness police crashing through the front doors with an explosive charge, responding to the gunshots. The robbers both were gunned down and his girlfriend managed to avoid injury. Although too weak to speak, he still managed to see her crying face over him before he died.

{Chapter 2: Spirits}
Even now it's hard to say what the first emotion Michael had felt was when he "awoke" into the spirit realm, looking down at his own bloodied body or his crying, screaming wife over him. He never was a particularly superstitious man so to find out he was a floating, disembodied spirit was certainly a shock to the system. He wasn't however sad or upset like one might think, surprisingly peaceful in fact. He was quick to accept his death. His only sin, perhaps was the large amount of regret he had leaving this world without the love of his life. Michael didn't want to see her suffer this world alone. Because of this rather strong belief and desire, he was unable to move on naturally and ended up haunting his wife albeit peacefully. He stayed with her in all things, doing what little he could to try and comfort her. He saw her mourn in the funeral, go through the rage and sorrow of losing a loved one at home and even smiled as she over the next few months slowly came to accept his death. It was, of course heartbreaking in many ways to see her slowly moving on, but it made him happy because he knew it was best for her.
At least, that is how it was at first. After about seven months of being a dead spirit and following his wife around, he started to realize he was, against his will, changing. The odd chain in his chest, which was once so long from when he first had died, has grown short. His emotions were becoming confused and erratic for no reason and to be frank, it scared him. Unaware of what he was doing or what was happening, Michael was rapidly on his way to becoming a hollow. Having spent too long in the human realm as a lost spirit and with constant strong emotions which ranged on the edges of jealousy and sorrow, he had unwittingly sped up the process. Perhaps if he had just turned into a hollow, things would have played out different but sadly things would not end up so simple for Michael.
As his emotions became more unstable, to the point where his outburst were effecting the physical world around him and turning him into a poltergeist, his spiritual energy began to grow and like sweet bait, drew in unwanted attention from creatures which Michael never dreamed could exist before. A single, snake like hollow was the one who picked up Michael's scent. He knew something was wrong and he did his best to contain his emotions but it wasn't Michael's fault. There was no way to know for him how the realm of spirits work, how they weren't meant to linger for so long in the physical realm. The Hollow's roar grew louder as it grew closer.

{Chapter 3: Hollowfication}
Michael could hear that shrill, terrifying roar as it was right outside and he was overcome with a sense of dread and impending doom. However, running wasn't an option, he had become tied to his haunting ground, attached to the woman who loved him in life. Although he had no clue what exactly was coming it was clear to anyone who heard the hollow's cry that something dangerous was on the way, so he did the only thing he could: He tried to warn his wife. No matter what he did though, what he knocked over or made ring he accomplished nothing but scaring her. His wife, like him had no spiritual awareness so to his dismay there was nothing to be done. A loud crash ripped through the air as the back wall of the house caved, throwing debri all over Michael's lover and slithering in through the hole was what could only be described as a giant snake with a white mask: A hollow.
It had come for Michael's spirit, hungry and didn't care who or what got in the way of it's meal. The creature charged at him like a mindless beast and by sheer luck and concern he managed to jump out of the way and go to where his wife was. She was to Michael's relief alive but only just. She had suffered a large head injury. In his moment of joy however he had failed to remember the monstrosity behind him, perhaps underestimating the creature due to it's simplistic animal nature. It had come up behind him and with the end of it's tail slapped him with a crushing amount of force to the other side of the room, as well as causing further destruction to the house. As the home he had once live crumbled around him he could still only thing of a single thing and that was his wife.
When Michael looked up, however what he saw broke his heart. His wife was laying across from her body with a thin chain linked chain connecting and at the very "feet" of the monster which was causing such distraction. The spirit of his wife, still barely tethered to her body opened her eyes and saw her late husband. Michael was screaming for her to run to get away but she was in shock and couldn't make anything out. All she could do was smile with teary eyes as she saw the man she loved one last time. "Michael..is that you?" where her last words. She couldn't hear Michael screaming for her to run nor could she recognize the bone white jaws which engulfed her upper body and chomped down, devouring her. In that moment everything for Michael just went black. The surge of rage and sorrow overcame any pain he would have felt.
His chain's encroachment happened almost instantly after that. Michael ceased to exist and the hollow known as Thanatos was born and his first victim wouldn't be a human as it was with most hollows, but the idle of his rage. Perhaps he took it off guard or perhaps his emotions just had made him particularly strong, it was hard to say. But the result was the same as Thanatos' masked teeth chomped down on the face of the hollowed snake and he steadily began devouring him. There was only darkness before him now.

{Chapter 4: Evolution}
Thanatos' new life was one of chaos, violence and gluttony. His rage was something that could not be sated. As a hollow he was very much like a spider, fitting for one who in life was an artist. He used acidic webs, venomed fangs and piercing legs to dispatch and devour his pray, all of which whom were hollows and as life progressed, even a few Shinigami, though low ranking. His hunger and rapid devouring of hollows was fueled more so by the anger that turned him into a hollow in the first place as opposed to a lust for power or at least that is how it was at first. After twenty years or so of non-stop feeding however he began to desire more power. He was fighting and devouring more enemies one after another and it felt good. It wasn't much longer after that, that he joined in on what he would call "A convergence" event. Him and many other very powerful hollows met and fought, devouring. He ate and was eaten in kind and there bodies would rapidly meld into one another, eventually becoming a mass of consciences known only as a Gillian.
The Gillian was like it's brothers, mindless. It was a vessel with no soul at the helm. Inside it were thousands of hollows, all fighting each other to take control, to continue the evolution. The process took almost a full year but eventually the one known as Thanatos would emerge victorious from this hellish struggle. To signify it's intelligence and the crown of victor, it's masked changed to be more spider like, further signing that it was Thanatos who was in control, who overcame thousands of other enemies. The next few years would be more of the same then, devouring other Gillians to gain even more power and to obtain an even further evolution. When it finally happened the giant Gillian body glowed like the sun and shrunk down rapidly, melding into self, condensing. What was left was a 7 foot tall humanoid looking creature with a mask similar to a jester. His arms and back were like the threads of a brush, contracted together to operate like normal limbs but being able to be controlled individually.
But most shocking of all was that Thanatos had something he had not had in a long time: A personality. Something unique to him that wasn't just rage and hunger. He felt..free. Thanatos felt great power surging through him as well, power he had no clue what it actually was but at the same time knew on instinct how to use. Things where changing. Fast.

{Chapter 5: Adjuchas}
Thanatos felt a peace he couldn't have imagined feeling in years. Rather it was the evolution or the long years of fighting having quenched his rage, he finally didn't feel anger or the need to kill or even a lust for power. In many ways, Thanatos felt complete. As he began to walk around and fiddle with what his new body could do, his mind drifted off to things that took him by surprise, such as art. He couldn't remember his human past as an artist, it had been far too long and buried to deep but despite that the passion for it was pushing through all anew. Looking down into the depressing sand of Hueco Mundo he used his new tendril like hands to draw in it, creating architecture and heavenly bodies in surprising detail and at rapid speed, damn near as fast as he could think. The tendrils behaved and moved so precisely and independently that complex shapes seemed to appear as quickly as they did in his mind. Over the next few days that is all Thanatos did. He drew in the sand, experimented with his body. He found out he could shape his hands and the tendrils on his back to any shape imaginable, rather it be normal appendages, a cloak or even claws.
But as the days went on and Thanatos happily fed his passion, he noticed an increasing nagging in his head. A strange pressure that grew stronger and stronger with each passing moment. It felt like a wave threatening to consume his being and was something he could not ignore for long. As the strange sensation grew stronger he could only come up with a single word in his mind: Eat. Thanatos had no desire for anymore violence or to kill and eat someone anymore. All he wanted to do was his art and enjoy his time but clearly this was something he had no choice in. To ignore it for much longer filled him with a primevil sort of fear, so in the end he hunted. He found and devoured whatever hollows would cross his path until that creeping sensation in his head passed away. Then he would hold out, fasting until he was forced to eat again.
Thanatos, due to his reluctance and distaste for needless violence was always on the thin knife's edge of regressing back into a Menos Grande. Like a classic hunter he only took what he needed and never wasted it. Over the course of these hated hunts is how he discovered exact what he could do with his powers. A blast of energy known as "Cero". The ability to use blood rather his own or the enemies to paint living, deadly pictures with his brushed hands. After 150 or so years of this however it began to take a small toll on him.Thanatos was surprisingly soft hearted for a Hollow. The more he killed the more he hated himself for it and the more he attempted to disassociate from it.
Before long what was once hunting became "spreading art". He would make artistic sculptures and portriates out of the bodies of his victims. He did this originally to try and distract himself from the fact he was slaughtering and eating victims. It was around then he met his first and only friend, another Adjuchas named Zenkai. He was also a humanoid looking type, with claws and the power of gravitation. Thanatos' little art pieces had slowly become famous around the desert of Hueco Mundo and Zenkai, among others sought him out to ask him about his odd hobby..and then eat him. Zenkai however, presented himself as different.
He at one point protected Thanatos from a rather large attack group and helped him live. They got a long with each other well, laughing and spending there days together. It was the first time in a long time now that Thanatos had felt companionship with another being or even smiled and laughed. The dichotomy of the group was rather simple: Zenkai would do the hunting and killing, to relieve Thanatos of his burden and Thanatos would lure the food in with his infamy and art. It worked well and even made steps towards and improved mental state for Thanatos. At least, at first.

{Chapter 6: Arrancar}
The relationship between Zenkai and Thanatos lasted up until a six months before he became an Arrancar and eventual Espada. One day Zenkai said he had found a powerful hollow that would keep them from regressing for a very long time, but he would actually need Thanatos' support in the fight to take him down. Although he was very hesitant at first, Thanatos did in the end agree to help, Zenkai had done so much for him after all. In the end though, it was a trap. Zenkai had lead Thanatos into an ambush of about five other Adjuchas hollows, aimed at devouring him. Zenkai, as it seems was never Thanatos' friend at all. He was feeding him like a lamb, fattening him so that he would become a powerful and restorative meal for him and his own little gang. Thanatos was heartbroken and disgusted as you might think. Zenkai, however had made a horrible miscalculation. Due to how Thanatos was, he had never actually seen Thanatos fight seriously.
They underestimated him. Thanatos overwhelmed the enemy with a swarm of weapons and animated soldiers, all painted from his own blood. At the end of it all Thanatos could do was stair at the blood soaked sand and his hands which was covered in the gore of his former friend. It was then that something in him completely cracked. He took the bodies of Zenkai and the other hollows, draining them of blood with his tendrils and positioning them in twisted positions around a table he painted. He filled the table with apples and other various foods, reminiscent of the piece "the last super." He sat down beside the mangled bodies and was talking to Zenkai as if he was alive. Making him beautiful and into art was the only atonement Thanatos could offer...that and his own life.
From his experiences with fighting hollows he noticed if the mask was destroyed, it caused great pain and often ended the hollows life. So, following this reasoning he said good-bye to his dead friend, at the table of his own creation and grasped the edges of his mask, ripping it off in a single go. The pain was almost unbearable and Thanatos' passed out from the experience. When he awoke, he found himself without a mask and a human face. His powers had been sealed and a small ornate dagger lay across his chest. Although Thanatos had no clue what he had done, he had successfully became an Arrancar, a creature he had personally never encountered. When he realized he was still alive Thanatos just began to laugh as he looked out at the sands of Hueco Mundo. His mind was still shattered and failing to die didn't help.
"Fine..I get it." He spoke softly as he looked over the artistry he had painted earlier with his friends bodies. "I found my calling. I get it now..you just..wanted to be beautiful, didn't you? I can do that..I'll make Hueco Mundo a master piece..Then everyone can enjoy our happiness..yes...art is..wonderful." and with that he wondered out into the sands. Over the next few months he would hunt hollows, no matter their type. He would make friends with who he could and then turn them into another master piece of his and also the ones who attacked him. Friendship had become a personal selection for who he wished to "Transcend" into art while those who attacked him were eager volunteers. Being an Arrancar himself, it wasn't long before he was naturally attracted to the dome known as Las Noches where he met others like himself.
He learned of the Espada, Soul Society and the human world and Thanatos become utterly fascinated by the possibilities.

{Chapter 7: Ascension to the 6th}
To achieve his overall goal of spreading his art to all corners of existence Thanatos knew he would have to get out of Hueco Mundo eventually and now that he knew more of the outside world he was beginning to realize that it would be dangerous to go it alone, even for someone of his caliber. He would require allies, resources and more power and to do that the Espada seemed to fit his ends perfectly. Thanatos made his way into Las Noches, seeking audience with the king. He was contemplating what to do if denied, pondering if perhaps this would be a rare call for violence? It's against his normal ethics but this was important enough to him that he could side line his morality for awhile. Luckily however, it need not come to that.
Either Thanatos simply got lucky and the king was in a good enough mood to be seen by outsiders that day or his reputation for art had some how gotten around. Either way, the rare audience was granted and Thanatos made his case rather bluntly. He was strong and was willing to work for the king. All he ask in return was to be allowed to pursue his own dreams in art. The king pondered upon it and sensed Thanatos out, feeling he indeed was strong enough to at least consider and give chance. He informed Thanatos of a recently vacant position, abandoned by it's former owner the 6th Espada. It was conditional however and he was forbidden of practicing his "art" upon any of the other Espada or the fraccino, at least for awhile. If Thanatos were to break this rule or prove to be weak and disappoint him, however, he could expect to be killed, swiftly. Thanatos accepted with a smile and no hesitation. The rules were light and fair. He gave forth his hand and accepted his mark, which engraved it self upon his forhead, under his mixed hair.
