Sanketsu 酸欠 (Suffocation) - technique?
Shinkin saku 真菌咲く (Fungal Bloom)
⧼⦓⦁ O V E R A L L ⦓☣⦔ A B I L I T Y ⦁⦔⧽
Shinkin saku is a potent, poison-type zanpakutou which manifests as a miasma of free-floating, noxious spores which envelop Mei Yun in a thin, fog-like haze that extends in all directions 5 to 10 feet from her person at all times. The miasma itself has the unique property of being able to generate not one, but a variety of highly toxic spores at Mei Yun's command.
While all of these spores are toxic, many of them also have medicinal qualities at very low dosages (see "Healing Spores" below). As a result of this, many people wrongly assume her zanpakutou to be a healing-type zanpakutou. This could not be further from the truth however, as it is only Mei Yun's keen medical knowledge and carefully measured dosage which prevents her allies from succumbing to a potentially lethal overdose.
⦓☣⦔ Zanpakutou Special Ability - Spore Generation
The primary ability of Shinkin saku, is the ability to generate an almost endless supply of potent, toxic fungal spores. The miasma itself is comprised of such a large volume of these spores that it is easily visible to the naked eye, despite individual spores being no larger than a speck of dust and difficult to see in small concentrations.
Upon command, Mei Yun can cause the spores present in her miasma to change between a variety of different species, each with their own unique toxins and effects. The number of different spore effects Mei Yun can have active at one time is limited by the class level of her release. While in a Class 4 (Shikai) release, Mei Yun is limited to one type of spore at a time, but can change which spore is active once per each of her posts at no cost. At Class 3 (Shikai), Mei Yun can keep two different spores active at one time, and a maximum of three different spores active at Class 2 (or higher). Regardless of how may spore types Mei Yun can have active in her miasma at one time, she can only swap one active spore per post.

Upon release, a number of small diamond-shaped vents appear along the length of Sanketsu's saya (scabbard), one vent for each post of her release. Hidden within its scabbard, Sanketsu's blade rots and decays as it is choked in a stringy fungal mass which rapidly dissolves the blade of her zanpakutou. As the blade dissolves, it transforms into a miasma of noxious spores which jets out of the numerous vents along her scabbard, and swiftly condenses into a 5 to 10 foot radius cloud that envelops Mei Yun.
Unless in the heat of battle, the billions of toxic spores contained within Shinkin saku's miasma are released in a dormant state of suspended animation, awaiting mental command by Mei Yun to activate, and begin producing their deadly toxins. At her discretion however, Mei Yun can activate one of her mycotoxins upon release, making the miasma toxic to anyone bar Mei Yun who happens to be standing nearby at the time of her release.
Alternatively, she may activate her "Healing Spores" technique simultaneously with her release. Doing so allows her to simulate the activation of a low, medicinal concentration of mycotoxin in her miasma instead of a toxic dose as described above. Mei Yun must still pay the reiatsu cost of activating her "Healing Spores" technique when activated in this way, but as the technique is activated simultaneously with her release, it cannot be reacted to separately.
While the miasma normally exists as a small aura surrounding Mei Yun, she can also call upon her zanpakutou techniques to release even larger concentrations of miasma with which to attack her foes, or heal allies at a distance. When using her zanpakutou techniques in this way, Mei Yun can telepathically control these additional clouds of miasma up to a range of 200 feet (400 ft in bankai). She must be careful when using her miasma in this way however, as even accidental exposure to a toxic spore cloud will cause harm to her allies as easily as it would her enemies.
⦓☣⦔ Spore Mechanics
Depending on the class level of her release, Mei Yun can activate one (or more) of these spores upon release of her Shikai (as stated above), and may change the type chosen once per post (including during the post she releases her zanpakutou). The type chosen determines the specific healing property of her "Healing Spores" technique, as well as the specific mycotoxin that other characters are exposed to if they come within 10 feet of Mei Yun at any point. Mei Yun can suppress the toxic effects of her miasma aura at will, but no more than once per post. She can keep the toxicity of her aura suppressed for as long as desired (even across multiple posts), but she cannot suppress it multiple times during a single post.
Spores generated with her [technique] are not affected by this limitation. When using this technique to generate additional spore miasmas, each miasma created can have a different variety of toxic spore active. Likewise, if Mei Yun uses one of these independent, mobile miasmas to activate her "Healing Spores" technique, the healing effect is determined by the type of miasma used to trigger the effect (as described below). Regardless of how many miasmas Mei Yun creates however, she is still limited to swapping spore varieties once/post, however she may swap multiple miasma's to the chosen type if desired.
Any character exposed to a toxic miasma is affected immediately. The toxins created by the spores are contact-poisons (unless otherwise specified), and will enter the body through any orifice, or porous membrane in the person's body, even through the pores of their skin. Normal clothing will not protect the person from this effect, but clothing which provides resistance to toxins, such as a hazmat suit will protect the individual from the effects, providing there are no exposed areas that the toxins may enter. Inhalation of spores themselves poses additional risk, as these spores remain active for the duration of Mei Yun's release, and continue to release toxin once exposed. Any spores inhaled however can no longer be changed to a different spore variety, as Mei Yun is only able to alter the spores present in her miasma(s).
The toxic effects of these spores are affected by Poison Resistance and similar abilities, as indicated in Drawbacks below.
⦓☣⦔ Spore Types
Mei Yun can activate any of the following spore types during Shikai [Note, mechanics of individual spores have yet to be added, only their descriptions exist to date]. Most of these spores have a cumulative effect which increases over a number of posts. Repeated exposure exacerbates the effect of any toxic exposure:

Mei Yun can activate any of the following spore types during Shikai [Note, mechanics of individual spores have yet to be added, only their descriptions exist to date]. Most of these spores have a cumulative effect which increases over a number of posts. Repeated exposure exacerbates the effect of any toxic exposure:
⦓☣⦔ Neurotoxic
These spores generate one of two different neurotoxins (chosen upon activation), which swiftly incapacitate enemies on contact. While many of Mei Yun's toxic spores require inhalation for their effects to be felt, the neurotoxins generated by these spores are a powerful contact poison, which either paralyzes the victim by impeding nervous signals to their muscles, or alternately, causes their muscles to relax and contract uncontrollably, causing convulsions. Medicinal concentrations of these spores act as a potent anesthesia and analgesic. Causes Coma?
[Mechanics / limitations here]
⦓☣⦔ Hemotoxic
Generating a powerful coagulant or anticoagulant, these spores cause the victims blood to form dangerous blood clots, which if left untreated will cause tissue necrosis from lack of oxygen, cardiac arrest, stroke, and death. Alternately, Mei Yun can generate spores that generate a powerful anticoagulant poison which destroys white blood-cells and platelets, rendering the victims immune system inoperable, while simultaneously causing all wounds to bleed uncontrollably. At toxic levels, the anticoagulant effect will cause the victim to bleed from every orifice as their blood vessels spontaneously rupture, causing massive internal and external bleeding resulting in death. The anticoagulant properties of these spores can be used to rapidly halt bleeding in an injured character, preventing death from blood loss. The anticoagulant effects can also be used to counter coagulant toxins, or flush a wound from toxins, venoms and other deleterous effects.
[Mechanics/limitations here]
⦓☣⦔ Necrotoxic
These spores generate a cytotoxic venom that ruptures the cell membrane of any cell it comes in contact with, resulting in rapid tissue necrosis. External contact with these spores results in the victims exposed flesh, limbs, eyes, etc to wither, blacken, and die however it will not spread beyond that. Inhalation of these spores however can be fatal, as the toxin swiftly causes the victims lungs to blacken, and die, resulting in suffocation and death from lack of oxygen. Medicinally, these spores can be used to swiftly kill and debride an infected wound. It can also be used to kill invasive viruses, bacteria, and foreign tissues.
[Mechanics/limitations here]
⦓☣⦔ Respiratory
Inhaling these spores is deadly, as they generate a powerful bufotoxin that rapidly paralyzes the victims lungs, resulting in asphyxiation and death. While the toxicity of these spores is far greater than most other varieties, these spores have no effect if not inhaled and can be avoided simply by holding one's breath. Small quantities can slow respiration, allowing someone to hold their breath longer than normal, or to slow the effects of inhaled toxins. Hyperventilation
[Mechanics / limitations here]
⦓☣⦔ Cardiovascular
When inhaled, the toxins of these spores results in dangerous tachycardia and arrhythmia, chest palpitations causing massive fatigue, pain, and putting the patient in heart distress. If left untreated, these toxins will swiftly lead to cardiac arrest. Medicinally, these spores can aid in correcting heart arrhythmia, or restart someones heart after complete cardiac arrest in the same way epinephrine can.
[Mechanics/limitations here]
⦓☣⦔ Hollowtoxic (possibly Bankai?)
These spores generate a powerful toxin which is only harmful to hollows, akki, and arrancar. This poison reactivates the effects of encroachment, causing their hollow hole to rapidly expand, consuming their body in the process, until such times as their soul is shredded.
⦓☣⦔ Hallucinogenic
These spores generate a powerful hallucinogenic toxin, causing auditory, visual, and sensory hallucinations in the target. While debilitating, these spores are the least harmful of Mei Yun's arsenal. Medicinally, these spores can be used to help correct audio/visual problems, and neurological problems (such as schitzophrenia) which cause hallucinations. In large doses however, these spores can result in permanent neurological defects and permanent hallucinatory effects, or worsen existing problems exponentially.
