”Hmm…” Raygin mumbled, rubbing his chin as he stood lost in deep thought. The subject of todays thoughts were one that was as old as time, one asked by any martial artist that ever strived for anything, “how do I improve?” Raygin had hit a wall recently, a wall that he seemed incapable of getting over. He’d been trying to get back into the Gotei Thirteen, but to do so would require him to get stronger. Much stronger. But he was having issues with improving. It seemed that no matter how hard he tried he just couldn’t get the hang of using a sword again. But it made sense, honestly. Raygin had stopped using a sword way before he had lost his Zanpakuto and became injured. In fact, he had become devoted to learning the ways of the Kawada Families Boxing techniques. Maybe that was why Raygin was having so much trouble with improving? He was doing things wrong?
”What about…Kido?” Raygin suddenly asked himself, the thought coming to him as if it had never come to him before. While he had focused on martial arts back in his glory days, he didn’t have much aptitude for the magical arts as most did. But…maybe it was time to change that? Did Raygin even remember how to cast a simple spell? He knew he had cast them before, especially in battle. He remembered the time he had faced off against the Espada, Myzaraphiston Synderfell, and the amount of Kido he used in that fight. The Shinigamis eyes narrowed as he stared at his hand, before aiming his finger at the featureless wall in his bedroom. Taking a deep breath, Raygin shut his eyes as he began to focus the reiatsu in his body into the tip of his index finger.
He could feel his reiatsu flowing, focusing together into the focal point at the end of his digit. Was it just him or was it…easier…than he remembered it to be? Raygin exhaled, opening his eyes and finding himself slightly surprised to see his finger tip lightly glowing, the reiatsu within him being focused into one point caused it to light up. Now then…let’s try that spell. Something low leveled, but something that wasn’t Sho. ” Hado #4: Byakurai!” Raygin exclaimed, feeling silly for a moment before watching his finger tip literally explode with light and fire off a narrow beam of white light. The crackling little beam collided with the wooden wall, punching through it easily and firing off outside into the Kawada garden. Raygin suddenly heard a startled scream, yipping with worry and nervousness before quickly sprinting out of his room to profusely apologize to whomevers day he just intruded on.
Raygin took a breath. He took a rather long breath, actually. The breath he took was a lot longer than most he took when he was caught in a stupid situation. "This...this had better work."He mumbled under his breath, turning his gaze back up to the clouds as he tried to control the tremors in his body. For the past few days Raygin had been working on learning a new technique. He had spent his time studying and trying to make sense of a particular technique known as Advanced Air Ground. From what Raygin understood it worked almost the same as regular air ground, the gathering of free floating reishi beneath ones feet to grant them a platform in the air. But this technique was...different. It could be used in the Soul Society. Not just that though, but it could also grant new kinds of platforming based possibilities that the basic air ground technique could not.
Raygin had seen little to no luck in the past few days when he had tried to use the technique. So he decided that drastic measures were needed. He found himself standing atop the Sōkyoku Hill, something that hadn't been used too much in recent times. He gulped, standing on the very tip of the cliff itself and overlooking the cherry blossom forest down below. He took another breath, closing his eyes...and he jumped. Has it never been said Raygin didn't like heights? Because he didn't like heights. A scream erupted from the young man's mouth as he plummeted like a pencil. His limbs shoot out as if he were trying to grab something. But even as he fell Raygin remained focused on what he was doing. He focused on gathering the reishi in the air to his hands and feet, trying with all his will to get it to work. "PleasepleasepleasepleasePLEAAAASE!" Raygin begged, the ground getting very close. But...he didn't hit it. In fact, Raygin would open his eyes to find himself just...dangling...in the air, holding onto an invisible surface. He shivered, tears nearly escaping his eyes as he sniffled out a "N-no more falling.." Now how was he going to get down.
Byakurai was helpful, for now, when Raygin needed to hit something that was out of his reach. But, right now, Raygin realized that he was a little lacking in terms of close ranged capabilities. Trying to use a sword, lately, felt weird and strange to him. As if it just didn't feel right to use one. Maybe it was just his muscles remembering the fact that he used to be trained in boxing, and Raygin had even begun thinking about revisiting that old path. But right now, Raygin had something to work on. He found himself in the Kawada Manors garden, deep in thought as he tried to think his way through the use of this Kido. Thankfully he still had a few of the lower level Hado scrolls back from his days as a Shinigami. Whipping them out and dusting them off had given Raygin a few ideas he could work with. His attention had zoned in on one Kido in particular though. Hado #18: Kage no Kiba. Whether or not Raygin was ready for something about the level 15s wasn't the question. He needed to improve.
Raygin let out a breath, focusing the reiatsu needed into his outstretched hand. He focused the energies inside of him to congregate together, to bring all of itself together into the palm of his hand. He needed it to emerge from his body, and with some focus and willpower Raygin could see that result. A small, glowing, orb of energy, his energy, levitating above the palm of his hand. A smirk painted itself across his features at the sight of his success, but he knew that he was only halfway done. Now for the hard part. The technique required a lot more than just summoning a little golf ball sized reiatsu orb. Raygin sighed, pushing himself to his feet as he kept the reiatsu orb stable. His mind, soul, and will went to work focusing the reiatsu, shaping it, to split itself into five and coat each of his fingers as he spoke the incantation. " O shadows that hide in the corners of darkness, rejoice as the moon rises in the night's sky to cast yourselves from the light, and rip through the surface of water to the deep part of the abyss!"
Almost instantly the reiatsu shifted both in form and color. It became something darker in color, and the shape into something more sinister. Something like claws. Raygin smirked, happy with the results. He raised his arm up, aiming at a training dummy he had set up, and swung his arm downwards with a "HYAH!" Upon swinging his arm, five waves of darkish energy was released, flying towards the dummy at speeds that Raygin didn't expect. He gasped, realizing what was about to happen, and watched as those waves smashed through the dummy and ended up...tearing into the koi pond. Raygin stood there, jaw hanging open at the sight of the damaged garden before...wincing slightly. His hand suddenly had a jolt of pain when he used the kido, but had gone away quickly enough. Whatever it was, Raygin pushed it out of his mind and scrammed before the gardeners showed up.
Flowing waters were always a refreshing sound. Something about water just flowing free, unobstructed by any sort of obstacles always produced just the nicest sound. But sitting around and listening to that noise wasn't why Raygin made this trip out to the Rukongai. He was actually training. Raygin sat by the bank, amber eyes focused intently on the flowing stream. He remained steady, focused, staring at the water. His eyes would dart to any moving shadow he saw beneath the waves. A collection of flies had gathered above the waters surface, sometimes landing or sometimes just floating above. Raygin had been here for a few hours, working and practicing one particular Kido. It was a goofy idea that he had for training, but one that he could possibly use to impress someone that he was interested in.
Raygin inhaled softly, exhaling a few moments later as he maintained a watchful eye on the water. His right hand remained open, the fingers not clenched together like his left hand was. Raygins eyes narrowed as a shadow in the water suddenly darted and the surface of the water exploded, gently, when the fish leapt out to snatch at one of the flies. "Now! Horin!" Raygin shouted, quickly snapping his hand forward and letting free a tendril of orange energy. The rope of reiatsu shot forward rather quickly, and quickly ensnared the fish and flung it to the other side of the river bank. A look of joy and excitement painted itself on Raygins face at the sight of his catch. He had been here all day practicing this. If he could learn to catch fish like a professional using Kido, then he might just be able to prepare his own meals for himself and his friend. He snickered, happy to know that he had another Kido down.
