The Academy Returns

Hey Guys,

I really wanna start up the Academy again. I was wondering how many of you would join me for a really fun and meaningful adventure this round at the Shino Academy? I obviously have things to do too but I can make time for this if people would be interested; which in turn would motivate me. If this gets enough support, I'll start it up soon. I look forward to working with everyone and having a fun and cooperative environment filled with character development.

I'm not voting yet, but I think there should be an award for going through The Academy. Like, bonus SKP or something.

The Academy was a fun alternative for individuals who wanted to start at Class 8 within the Shinigami Ranks. Though there were issues with timetables last time; people advancing faster than their Academy Threads were completing. I think if the Academy is to be used again, then the system needs a tweak here or there. Maybe cut back how long Classes or Years of Schooling take? Rather than trying to do one typical thread for either, make completing the thread in less than one page, or a certain number of posts, the challenge? It would speed up Classes or whatever else curriculum is desired by the Mod leading it, so that advancing based on threads outside the Academy won't out pace it. Just a suggestion to consider, obviously. The Academy System would need to be much more thorough in rules, procedures, and pacing to prevent conflicts of timing. =X

I'll be trying to tweak the academy system a bit. There are some things I'm mulling over now but the system would change. I have a good idea of how things will work though and it shouldn't keep people there for long.

As for incentives, I can't really offer too much aside from character development. I understand not wanting to start there. However, I'm making it so people can start interacting with more characters and have some reason/ story for them.

Another idea I had was a "high school" theme. This would make it so even people whom weren't shinigami could attend if they so wanted for whatever reason. In the spirit of bleach, it would be kinda nice as well. I've been hearing complaints about this not being available for more races.

I'm still mulling things over but for now, i'm basically asking if you guys would like things like this / a high school / etc?

Edit: Note this is just me tossing around ideas. It isn't something I have talked to most staff with. Academy is 100% fine but HS was on the fly.

If I may throw my two cents in here, besides character development there really isn't that huge of an incentive to do academy threads, people can class up much faster through training and fights than academy threads which in the past have been very long. Now while that is the norm there have been times where people abused the academy and were able to class up super fast(looking at Pie aka the prince of fluff.)While I see it's place and I would like for it to be working, unless there was a reward for going through it besides TP I really feel like the academy should be left where it is at. I know it sucks, but I don't see a huge draw to it the way it is right now.

A High School theme, that includes all the races, would be taking it to far. It might such that other races don't have the option to attend an Academy, but that goes with the flavor of those races. You could swing something with Humans or Quincies...maybe boot camps or something? As far as the other races go...there are no schools in Hueco Mundo or Hell. It'd be a very unfitting stretch to try and include such races.

As for incentives, CD should be the focus. Why else bother calling your character a "Student" when they first start out; if not to play out the interesting qualities therein? However, for those who need more incentive; why not increase SKP acquisition for Academy threads? It doesn't increase any maximums. It isn't as flavorless as "bonus TP". Earning Skill Points faster, such as 1 per 4-6 Threads, would reflect the "learning" aspect of the threads. That's my suggestion.
