So, a recent analysis of what types were popular on the forum showed that three types (Soldier, Clown, and Genius) were overwhelmingly dominant, and that many of the other types were picked hyper infrequently. In order to fix this, the mods are going over the types, and buffing a lot of the underused ones, as well as nerfing a few of the more overused ones. This is the first part of the series of changes, and includes changes (both significant and minor) to Berserker, Brave, Weapons Master, Prodigy V2, Cunning, Fighter V2, Freak, Shadow, and Skilled. The changes are live in the Types section, so go check them out now.
In addition to these changes, a small CIU will be occurring, giving people to update their character's type and stats to something that fits their view of the character. Keep in mind, however, that there are other changes coming in the relatively near future to a few other different types. This CIU is purely for Types and Stats, not for powers.
If I switch from a type that limits the amount of release techs to a type that doesn't, would I be allowed to make extra release techs to fill in the now available slots?

Yes, however you wouldn't be allowed to switch types if you are a type that wasn't changed, and you want to switch to a type that isn't changed as well. Keep in mind that the big CIU is coming soon.
