A blue hue filled the hotel room otherwise devoid of light. It came from a cell phone, sitting over on the dresser. One new message, was displayed on the screen. Oddly, the number was listed as “unknown.” Caller ID was good enough nowadays that unknown numbers were a rarity, but that just made it all the more enticing. It was a short, simple message. “Meet me at the top of Tokyo Tower. Come alone, dress sharp, and bring an empty metal briefcase.” This message had been sent to a man probably all too used to receiving requests like this. As a trained assassin, Zack Jensen probably knew exactly what was going on here.
Someone wanted to hire him. Tokyo Tower was a nice tourist spot, so there was always enough foot traffic to hide in plain sight. The metal case was likely going to be traded for one full of cash, and a nice suit would keep a case like that from looking too suspicious. It was a fairly straightforward setup, but the level of detail was a bit suspect. This kind of request was either sent by an idiot, or a pro. An idiot could have left it that vague, simply because they were trying to sound cool, or didn’t know better. A pro could’ve sent it like this because they knew exactly how much info was required. Those were just the types of risks involved in the job though.
Over at Tokyo Tower, a lone woman waited up in the observatory near the top of the structure. She was just across from the elevator, and dressed like she’d just finished working at a research lab. A long white dress coat was all that was visible at first, but every time the elevator door chimed open, she turned to check it, showing off an Oxford Blue dress shirt and a darker blue skirt. A metal case sat on the ground beside her, doubtlessly filled with something rather important. This, of course, was the woman who had sent a message to the assassin. She waited patiently for him to come, but every passing moment made her visibly more anxious. Was he coming, or not?
Well, it was definitely a different way of receiving a job. Back in the days of the Organization, Zack received jobs in a very similar manner as the one just now. These days he was normally given jobs by his handler, not called directly from an unknown source. Still, the instructions were clear enough that Zack had assumed whoever had sent that message knew what they were doing. The request for an empty briefcase was new though, something Zack hadn’t come across before. Direct exchange of funds was rather different. He normally just had his payment directly deposited into his personal bank account, one of many Xcutions black accounts.
The elevator music was rather pleasant to the ears though. Dressed in his standard suit, Zacks head was low and eyes closed, taking in the moment to catch even a moment’s amount of rest. The man was tired, far more than usual. He was once again taking way to many jobs without a decent amount of rest. Annabeth had actually denied giving him any contracts until he had taken at least a week off from work. That meant that this job was secret until he told her about it, which meant he was going to get an earful when she found out. Regardless of the toll on his body, money was money. All Zack worked for was money. He had no such thing as a “limit” on the amount of money he wanted. It had come to his realization, actually, that Zacks goal seemed to be amount as much money as he could before he died. Some sort of bragging right he would have in Hell when he arrived.
The elevator shook thus signaling it was slowing down. It came to a stop on the top floor of the Tokyo Tower. Once the doors opened Zack allowed the two people he rode up with to depart before him. Stepping out of the elevator he caught eyes with the woman. Noting her attire as well as the briefcase at her feet, Zack came to the conclusion that this was the client. With an internal sigh he walked forward with a casual pace, moving to her left and placing the brief case down beside her. Hands hidden in his coats pockets he stared out the window, down at Tokyo. ”You have a job for me?” Zack asked, keeping his voice just low enough for her to hear.
