Was wondering people's thoughts on this. Should we have a regularly updated Hall of Fame for threads? Maybe there's a particularly amazing PvP or Adventure that should be put in a special area rather than the usual Graveyard. Also, comment here on how you think this should be handled. Should there be a monthly/biannually/etc. open nomination followed by a poll, or should people always be able to nominate a thread? Should acceptance into the Hall of Fame be handled by staff, or by the community? Any and all opinions are welcome.
Ongoing open nominations that were monthly evaluated would be wise. Handled by staff, IMHO. I feel like there could be, or should be, a bonus involved in getting a HoF thread, but that could be a pain to deal with.

If I'm being completely objective here, I can see this type of thing turning into extra work for staff with little to no real reward. Sure the idea is good, but is it really something that's necessary to the site? The GOOD threads are going to be read and remembered on their own regard, whether or not they're in some hall of fame or not.
I can see this being turned into the next CotM or MotM where it would eventually just be forgotten and left unused after the initial fun with it wears off. Then there's the issue of selectivity. Either this Hall of Fame is going to get almost no action, or be overloaded with threads. Each one has it's drawbacks. If too many threads are accepted, then it loses it's reward. If not enough threads get inducted then it becomes a graveyard that's only mentioned as a sidenote because of how uninvolved it is with modern events.
The obvious solution to this problem would be to induct 1 thread for every specific amount of time. Perhaps the best thread of a three month period or the best 5 threads a year. However, then you run into the issue of fluctuating standards. If there's a period of time where the BEST thread is not exactly equal in quality to the rest of the threads in the Hall of Fame, then you end up with a vast disparity in the quality of HoF threads. Maybe you have a good year with a bunch of high quality threads, but since only 5 or so can be inducted, many other GOOD threads go unrecognized and are forgotten the next time elections are open. The next year might be lacking, so you'd be force to either not induct any or induct sub-par threads. Either option is bad for obvious reasons.
Essentially, I think this is a fun idea in theory, but I predict it's going to be more work than it's actually worth. It'll either turn into an empty achievement that's only mentioned as a side note or be completely forgotten like the MotM/CotM was for the longest time. If you want to do something relating to threads, just do a Thread of the Month or something.
As for the why, part of it is that I agree with Kid's initial comment. Good threads are remembered by basically everyone who read them. If you ask someone what threads they think are worthy of the Hall of Fame, they can probably think of at least a few. Everyone will vary a bit in their answer, and I think that's something that we should preserve rather than having staff (or even site-wide polls) explicitly say "these are the good threads." Some people might feel that a given thread is really good, but it doesn't end up in the HoF. I foresee that as a point that leave a bad taste in people's mouths more often than someone feels good that their thread got in there.
For an actual suggestion, I'll second Kid's thread of the month idea, if you want to do something like this at all. Making it temporary rather than permanent lowers the chances of making people feel bad about it. Rather than "your thread wasn't good enough, period" they might feel "it wasn't the single best one that was chosen" with an implication of "but it isn't automatically bad and could win next month." It would still give people a chance to feel good about their threads, but the transient nature of the award would (in theory) reduce the likelihood of blowback from excluding a thread.
If you want the HoF to har any sort of impact, it can't receive nominations every month, there would simply be to many. Instead, what about a sort of 'Top Ten' threads. In this way you could do 'top social threads' and 'top pvp threads' while having a final 'top ten threads overall'. Additionally, I think it would be wise to not value threads on their length, as we all know much of that is fluff, or TP gained. Instead value it on enjoyability, impact (did this have a serious impact in a character(s) development, or even plot) all of these things have merit in my opinion.
Also, there COULD be a category for most TP gained, part achievement, and partly so people can see why they did right to aid their own threads. On the subject of rewards, I can't see an easy way to do this. Of course there Is the prestige, but I suppose a god way would be, if your thread is in the top 3, perhaps you gain the TP originally gained from that thread again? Or Ryo. That probably won't work out as a reward, but it's the first thing that came to my mind. You could even do a 'top 5 threads of this month' or even just top 3. This way would acknowledge, not only the best threads, but also the ones that are nearly as good, but not quite.
