Location: A Remote Area in the Amazon Rainforest

Plotline:

A Vice Captain is always second best, the Watson to Holmes, the Patrick Star to Spongebob, the Shortround to Indian Jones, the Robin to Batman, etc. The list goes on forever. And it is due to this fact that Kagami feels even more of a need to inflate his ego by proving to the world the a Vice Captain can be just as good or just as capable as one of a Captain of the Gotei 13. He is finally offered that opportunity when he stumbles across a letter hidden between files he was meant to deliver to the Captain Commander. It reads:

Dear Captains of Soul Society,
Your tyrannous rule is over. I have the power to single handedly eliminate all Thirteen of you at once.
Arrive if you dare to meet this challenge.
If you decide to ignore the request of a mere human unworthy of your attention,
lives will be lost.
~The Challenger

Kagami goes against the back of the Captain Commander and assembles his team of any available Vice Captains to meet the Challenger. The coordinates on the back of the letter lead to a remote area in the Amazon Rainforest. Kagami sends a written briefing to his team, making sure to never mention that their mission isn't taking place with the knowledge and consent of the Gotei 13. He instructs the other Vice Captains to meet him at the given coordinates.

[Amagai Kuchiki]

Traveling through the human world wasn't something that Takehiko exactly enjoyed doing. It was always so loud, and dirty, and there were far too many civilians that would turn up at the most inopportune moments. Of course, there were exceptions. Traveling in the wilderness wasn't typically that unpleasant in Takehiko's experience, although he still vastly preferred the Soul Society. At least the act of traveling wasn't particularly difficult. Takehiko preferred to travel through the mortal world as quickly as possible, and thus tended to move at high speeds on Air Ground a fair distance above the ground, allowing him to ignore the frequently annoying terrain. Of course, this had the disadvantage of leaving him out of breath by the time he arrived at his destination, but he typically arrived earlier than his companions, giving him time to rest and assess the situation.

And this certainly was a situation that required assessing. Kagami's letter had been slightly cryptic, and inauspicious to say the least. As far as Takehiko could understand, their foe was likely a Captain level combatant, and yet the force being sent to deal with him was made entirely of Vice Captains. Which wasn't necessarily a death sentence, there were plenty of power houses amongst the Vice Captains who were likely on tier with the lower tier Captains. Takehiko brashly considered himself one of them. But among the others, he wasn't sure how many had the time to join the mission, despite the great importance of it. He had a few that he was hoping to see. Kaen was a fighter that Takehiko admired, although the two had yet to spar or fight alongside one another. Kazuko Shiba certainly would be a helpful ally, and Takehiko liked him as a person which made things easier. And of course Kagami was a powerful individual in his own right, even if Takehiko's various interactions with him left something to be desired.

Takehiko stopped in the air, looking around for anyone else above the canopy. Allegedly, this was where the coordinates lead to. It seemed unlikely that they were referring to the location above the forest, but Takehiko knew better than to enter a dangerous situation directly and on his own. He stepped down slowly until he was situated just on top of the forest, and scanned around for spiritual pressure. He wasn't particularly talented with energy sensory, but he was good enough that if someone wasn't purposefully hiding their presence, and was nearby, he'd likely spot them. Now, he would wait for everyone else to catch up and arrive. In the meantime, he began to take deep, purposeful breaths, regulating his breathing until his heart slowed down to a normal speed. He'd be fully ready for combat within a few minutes.

Two sets of sliding doors opened, coating the area with a white light, before they closed, letting the natural light of the environment take over. Standing before the shut doors was a boy, scanning around at his surroundings, brown eyes darting here and there, leaving the door to fade into thin air. Down below, there was a canopy of foliage and wildlife, along with a few areas where the forest seemed to thin out, probably for paths of water. The Amazon sure is beautiful, but its too humid. He thought, taking the moment to enjoy his surroundings. Of course, his guard was up, but it never hurt to enjoy things every once in a while. Some time ago, the boy had received a letter on his desk concerning a high level mission, for the Vice-Captains, no less. It was rare when these sorts of things were passed down to the Second-In-Commands, but Kazuko did not hesitate to accept in place of his Captain. A mission was a mission, and he had been on enough to know that the enemy did not discriminate between ranks. To most, Shinigami were Shinigami, and they were talked about as a whole rather than individuals. I wonder who else came? A few names came to mind as he pondered this question, but it did not matter either way, he supposed. Things would get done one way or another.

Kazuko were the customary uniform of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads – the midnight black robe that seemed to cascade over his small body – along with white undergarments and the like. His zanpakuto, Gagoiru, was strapped across his back, the gray hilt exposed over his right shoulder. On his left upper arm, he wore the symbol of his station in the Squads: the Squad Nine Vice-Captains’ Badge. His hair, a dark brown like oak, was styled back in a comb over, making him look a bit awkward all together. Most things he did looked a bit awkward he supposed; he after his growth spurt, he barely stood over five-feet, which did not really help him out when he wore things made and designed for adults. But he never did mind things like that. Finally, for some reason, underneath his robes and tied to the majority of his body, he wore white bandages. He never told anyone why they were there, but whenever anyone asked, he would ignore their question, or redirect it. Regardless, he decided not to carry any other items, save for candy, on this venture; things of that nature could slow him down if he were not careful. The last thing he had on, of course, was his Vice-Captains' Limiter, to make sure his power was kept in check and did not harm the environment. I guess I should see if I can locate any of the other Vice-Captains. He thought, walking forward, plates of Air-Ground already formed. The Vice-Captain decided not to hurry, considering they just needed to rally up, so there was no rush.

Gagoiru, He thought, trying to pass the time, Do you think we might run into trouble? A few seconds passed, before he heard the old and shrill voice of his zanpakuto give him an answer. The old spirit liked to be dramatic whenever he chose to actually give the boy an answer. If we do, it does not matter. Just keep your head on straight, and do what you need to. Stop annoying me already. The boy sighed, already expecting such an answer from his zanpakuto spirit. After the training his spirit had given him, the boy had learned to actually converse with his sword, and not just burst out into an argument. Of course, Gagoiru was not much for conversation, and only gave him cryptic answers. You’re not much for conversation… He groaned, inwardly. Shut it. Kazuko walked a few minutes, covering a lot of distance that would have taken him a few times longer if he tried going through foliage below. The forest was too thick for comfort. As he continued, the Vice-Captain watched everything, his eyes missing little, until he found a lone figure out in the distance, hovering, doing the same. Judging by the way his chest moved, and his skin glowed, the boy thought he must have been doing something labor intensive. Was there a battle I missed? Maybe he shouldn’t have walked?

“Glad to see you here, Takehiko,” Kazuko called out to the other Vice-Captains. The boy had trained the man with a few techniques and the like out in the wilderness, he recalled, so it was good to see a familiar face. He approached the other officer, a smile on his small face, looking up as he did so. “So you got assigned to this mission as well, I see. Do you know who the other members are, or if we're the only ones?” He asked the man, trying to make a bit of conversation before they got things started. The Vice-Captain was curious to know what other faces he would see with them. It was not a common thing when the Vice-Captains would come together like this. Of course, the boy was used to seeing the faces of most of his peers when at Vice-Captains’ Meetings, but it was another thing to see them out on the field together, actually working together. Whatever Takehiko said, the boy would pull out two candy bars from the pockets within his robe, and hand one to the man, expecting him to eat it. The other, he kept to himself, opened it, and began to take small bites from the chocolate, trying to pass the time while they waited for any other possible members. Chocolate was never a bad thing, or at least he thought so.

Shady jobs were always the best kind of jobs. High risk, high reward. Right? As of late, the female Kuchiki found herself taking on more and more dirty work much her entertainment. There was much to gain and so very much to lose. The adrenaline rush she got from it was simply too good to stop. Sure, she could get in ridiculous amounts of trouble but why worry about what could happen when you have something to deal with that’s right in front of you? Only worry-worts and fraidy cats thought about stuff like that! Anastasia Kuchiki was typically someone who lived in the ‘now’ rather than the past or the future much to her spirit’s chagrin. She had not a care in the world of any sort of repercussion. Life was practically a green light for the vivacious shinigami. She was unstoppable in her mind.

So, full speed ahead! Anastasia was off to the Amazon Rainforest. A special part of the human world Anastasia was somewhat familiar with. Though, special and favored don’t mean the same thing. There wasn’t a snowball’s chance in hell she was going to go through the goddamn thing. There were always more easier, fun, ‘Anastasia’-ways of doing something. She had to wonder who in their right mind would want them to go there though. Well, she did know. The letter she’d received had a name and the whole nine yards, but she’d never met him before; only heard of here and there through whispers and rumors. None of which painted enough of a picture for the pirette. All she could gather was that he was up to something sneaky and he wanted her to be part of it and that was plenty for her.

Anastasia took her own sweet time in getting to her destination. She’d used Air Ground and dropped down until she was just above the trees. She was close enough to pick the leaves as she went by. There was a snowball’s chance in hell she was navigating her way through the damn rainforest. Sure, it’s nice and all but there were a thousand ways to kill a cat and the fricken’ Amazon Rainforest can find a thousand and one. Nooo thank you. The heat wasn’t much of a factor for the pirate as she spent most of her time around it. The fact that it was dense was just going to be irritating. Sigh. Oh well. What can you do? Just deal~!… Somehow~ It didn’t matter how, as long as the result was the same. Anastasia honestly believed she was going to get Ryo for this. “Do you read? It’s a mission not a trip to the candy story.” Shoku’s steely voice was always welcome in Anastasia’a mind…and then quickly disregarded.

She knew her spirit meant well though. In the end, Ana does what she pleases… sometimes. Honestly, Anastasia saw coordinates and immediately deemed the whole thing shady. She didn’t even read another word, she was ready to go! Her blanch pair looked down below her as she continued on. She knew she wasn’t the best at sensing people out but she sailed close to the trees so she could pick something up. When she finally arrived, she walked around for a bit, pushing leaves and branches out of her way until she heard a very familiar crinkle of a certain someone’s favorite kind of wrapper. “So you got assigned to this mission as well, I see. Do you know who the other members are, or if we're the only ones?” Anastasia cracked a smile, quickly making her way over to the pair. “It’s my two favorite people~” she greeted them joyously. “Kazu-chan~! Take-chan~! Had no idea either of ya would be here~” She pointed at a tree behind Kazuko. “That’s a big nasty looking’ insect behind ya. You think it’s poisonous?” She lied. Nothing was there. She just wanted to start some trouble for her own amusement. Annoying him was becoming something of a ritual and it was something she could never get tired of. As far as her dearest cousin goes, she was going to find someway to annoy him. Some how. “ Take-chan~!…What’s gotcha so worked up? Have no fear, your favorite cousin is here~” She poked at his arm lightly. Anastasia never really had a chance to interact too much with him before but now was the sweet, glorious time to act like a loving cousin and bother him and annoy him.

Kagami could feel the presence of his team as he began to near them. It wasn’t quite as large as he had imagined, but the odds are that they wouldn’t need an army. This could have been just one big bluff, and their only job would be to call BS and take out this Challenger person. It shouldn’t be too hard, and if things went well, he would have enough time to take the Kuchiki Lieutenant to dinner. Not Takehiko, Kagami already had the pleasure of seeing him in a dress and he never went back to the same girl twice. The notorious Anastasia Solis-Kuchiki was a different story. Her legendary reputation has gotten to his ears several times, and she was definitely his type (well, every girl is his type). And, last but not least, they brought the kid along. What was his name again, Kazunai or something? I suppose we could drag him along if we have to… Kagami thought a to himself with a less-than pleased expression on his face. Either way, his little battalion was going to tear apart the human dumb enough to challenge them. He was equally certain of that after confirming the presence of the available Vice Captains he had sent word to.

Kagami wasn’t too close when the location was in range of his energy sensory. After all, he wasn’t too shabby with detecting reiatsu signatures from far away. Normally, his spiritual pressure would be unchecked, and they wouldn’t have a hard timing noticing his reiatsu either. However, the dumb limiter he had restricted that quiet a bit. If he didn’t keep it on, the pilot would pass out and crash the damn plane, so he was stuck with it. Luckily for the other Lieutenants, though, they would be able to see Kagami several minutes before he arrived. They could probably hear him too. After all, it’s not too easy to not ignore a thundering plane flying over uninhabited forest. Just the sound got hundreds of birds to fly out of their nests deep in the towering trees of the Amazon. It was one of those aquatic planes that could land on water too, not that he needed it. It belonged to this rich girl he had just hooked up with. Maybe the timing of that affair wasn’t the best, considering that the banner waving behind the plane read Just Married.

It was clear that the Squad 1 Vice Captain didn’t have a problem with announcing his arrival. As soon as the airplane flew over the location, Kagami grabbed a parachute and jumped out of the open door in just his Shinigami uniform with his jade released Zanpakuto strapped at his waist. He was dropping hundreds of feet, and the butterflies in his stomach made the thrill even more real. Kagami was beginning to near the ground when he decided to pull his shoot and… nothing. It didn’t work. Kinda disappointing, right. Sighing with frustration, the Vice Captain decided to end his fall not too far above the forest floor with air ground and slowly make his way back to ground level, smiling at the three Shinigami that were already there waiting for him. “Sorry for all of that, the parachute was supposed open and read ‘MR STEAL YO GURL’ but I guess that didn’t go exactly according to plan.” Kagami tossed the parachute backpack into a nearby bush and began walking to the little pool underneath the waterfall. “Those are the coordinates, right at the waterfall exactly. This Challenger person didn’t leave much room for error.”

Kagami took a second to contemplate the situation, but it was far from complex and he decided it would be more effective to great his allies first. Spinning around in a circle, he approached the nearest Vice Captain, the Kuchiki with the long hair. No, not Ana, sadly. Kagami would never admit it out loud, but he was glad to have Takehiko by his side. They had worked together once in the past, and although that experience wasn’t quite in the field, it still developed a trust between the two. Kagami extended his hand to his friend. “Glad you could make it, Vice Captain Kuchiki. Let’s try to make this as fun as Vegas.” Kagami leaned in and whispered the last sentence so that the other two Shinigami wouldn’t be able to make out his words, and followed the remark with a wink.

From there, he would move on the next closest person, in this case, the Squad 9 Lieutenant man. Err- half a man. Kagami had to look down to meet the boy’s gaze, which didn’t give him the best first impression. Of course he had seen the famous genius child in Vice Captain meetings, well, the few meetings he actually went to. And after reading his bio, Kagami knew that Kazuko’s appearance was very deceiving, considering the immense power he held inside that tiny little body. Even so, Kagami knew it would be difficult to take the child seriously. “Nice to finally meet you personally, Kazuko Shiba.” Kagami extended his hand in a handshake. However, at the appearance of the young Shinigami, Kagami awkwardly switched this action first into an uncertain fist bump and then into a questionable high-five. “Uh, I would have brought you some treats or candy but, you know…” Kagami nudged his head up to the flying plane, the banner with the crossed out ‘Married’ still waving behind it.

Moving on. “And, last but far from least, the beautiful Anastatia Solis-Kuchiki.” So what about her last name, she was adopted into the family and didn’t have that noble, cocky air that most do. Even Takehiko had a little bit of it, but he was still a hommie. Kagami held his hand out to her, and if she complied, he would hold it delicately like it was porcelain. Maybe playing the gentleman card would go nicely with her noble side. “I’ve looked forwad to working with you for a long time, Anastasia,” flashing her a cocky smile. He released her hand and took a step back, his eyes now gazing over the other two Shinigami as well. “I’ve looked forward to working with all of you, actually. And I have faith that we’re the only people necessary to stop whatever threat’s in that waterfall.” He gestured at the waterfall coming down from the hundred foot high cliff. The coordinates were spot on, so there was no doubt that whatever hides behind the cascade was their destination. Kagami was smiling just a little too brightly before he opened his mouth to speak. “So, who wants to go first?”

(( OOC: I guess Andr has decided to leave the site, and for whatever reason he did so, we're definitely going to miss him. I'm going to find a way to pull Kazuko out of the adventure in the next post. In the meantime, you guys can post normally in the order that you posted your intros and I'll find a new participant. ))

[Kaen Youji]

Rainforests? Well, there could be worse places to meet up, Kaen thought, as he arrived at the given place. Though, there were a ton of Vice Captains here. Practically a gathering. With this many Vice Captains what were they even doing here, that one or two wouldn't be sufficient? Kaen glanced around at the group. He had never met Takehiko or Kagami before. He'd done one job with Anastasia in the past, though it hadn't ended nearly as well as he might have hoped. In a rainforest, though, he acknowledged that might put a damper on his flames-- literally. He was wearing his protective chain vest under his uniform and at his hip was the Esteemed Hammer. Kaen showed up with the group, giving a casual wave. "Yo. So. The lot of you seem to be ready to go. So why are we all waiting?" He queried the group. "From the sounda things, it's just one guy we have to deal with." He added.

Of course, one individual could be very powerful indeed. Kaen knew this. And indeed if the Captains were sending this many Vice Captains to deal with him, that only made things more difficult. Obviously best not to underestimate him. Still. With this many Vice Captains, Kaen doubted there'd be much beyond the Captain Commander himself that'd be able to handle them. In short, Kaen was confident. He considered it rightfully so. And although the collateral damage might be immense, a rainforest did have its benefits for a fighter like him. The trees around would make exceptional conduits for his fire abilities.

Kagami frowned at the late arrival of Kaen. Sure, the Squad One Lieutenant always made a habit of being ‘fashionably late,’ but anyone who’s appearance was even more delayed didn’t please him much. It seemed to trump Kagami’s own late entrance, and he didn’t like being overdone. Though when he remembered that he got to leap out of a plane while Kaen didn’t do anything nearly as majestic and awesome, his ego reinflated and so did his positive, arrogant attitude. “Kaen Youji, it’s great to meet you.” Kagami didn’t bother introducing himself. After all, who doesn’t already know who the amazing Vice Captain of Squad One is? “ From the sounda things, it's just one guy we have to deal with.” Kagami raised his head just a little higher as he led the group to the edge of the pool of water created by the nearby waterfall. “I’d have dealt with him on my own, but I’d rather not stain my uniform with his blood while I carried back his body.”

Kagami didn’t wait for any retort to his cocky remark before pointing at the waterfall with his released jade sword. One of the many things he loved about himself is that Kagami didn’t have to deal with carrying around those lame, generic katanas like most other Shinigami. He considered himself elite, so it was only fitting if his Zanpakuto was as well. “If I were to make a guess, the big guy we’re after is behind the waterfall. Kinda cliché for a villain’s hide out.” The Shinigami turned to face his comrades, the waterfall crashing behind him. “We have no clue what’s behind the water, and I’m not picking up any reiatsu, but let’s not take any risks. We’re going to jump through the water in this order: Me, Ponytails, Kaen, the kid, and lastly, Ana.” He flashed her a warm smile. “I like to save the best for last.”

Kagami’s mood shifted rapidly from flirty to authoritative. He held his sword at the ready while he darted for the waterfall, expecting his allies to follow him closely. He would use air ground to gain some elevation, running at in incline on some invisible hill. As they neared the downpour of water, he raised one hand to block his eyes, ensuring that he would always be able to see what lay on the other end. As soon as he broke through the blue, liquid wall, Kagami, along with the remaining Vice Captains would find a nice surprise. Four red lasers would being shooting at each of them. The shots would be so sudden and timed so perfectly with their arrival that they would pretty much have gotten hit before their feet touched the ground of the damp cave. Kagami would have just enough time to set up three mirrors, each of which was three meters tall by three meters wide. The reflective wall would be more than enough to protect them as they broke through the water, ensuring their safety.

Kagami soon linked the mirrors so that it was possible to see through them, allowing them to identify the threats. In the front were four brawny brutes, each carrying rectangular shields that were about as tall as they were, over six feet. And just behind them were four other men with rifles that apparently shot the lasers that first targeted the Vice Captains. The only sensible reason for why Kagami and his subordinates didn’t detect them was that the water must have blocked their reiatsu signatures. Kagami looked to allies, Kaen, Ana, Takehiko, and… Kazuko was nowhere to be found. The last person who could have seen him was Ana, since she did break through the waterfall right after he did. After Kazuko made it past the waterfall, he seemed to have disappeared completely. His reiatsu signature wasn’t detectable either, and Ana distinctly saw him pass through the water before she did, meaning he wasn’t outside. The Vice Captain’s wouldn’t have time to look for the youth, though, until the dealt not only with the six foot soldiers before them.

[Amagai Kuchiki]

Takehiko hadn't grown up a Kuchiki, not for most of his childhood anyway. When he finally moved into the compound after his father died, he was terribly afraid that he was going to be rejected by his various cousins, not to mention the elders of the family. But he was tolerated, and really that's all that he asked for. He had been given the support that he needed to flourish, and received lessons from tutors as if he was a fullblooded Kuchiki. Not to mention the fact that the political backing made ascending quickly through the ranks of Gotei 13 easier. Takehiko benefited greatly from his mother's family, which is why he was so dedicated to paying them back.

And yes, this gratitude to the family extended to all his cousins. So he smiled and put up with Ana's playful poking of his arm. They hadn't spent much time together thus far, typically Takehiko tried to stay inhouse for missions, and work with his fellow squadmates. In this case however, the mission didn't allow for that, and he was grateful to at least have someone he knew backing him up. He looked up, and saw their mission leader, the lovely Kagami Murai, descending rapidly from a plane. Perfect, just perfect. To be fair, he'd gotten along relatively well with Kagami in the past. At least they respected each other for the most part. And as he landed, Takehiko took his hand and shook. As long as the other captain didn't mention–"Let's make this as fun as Vegas."–Nevermind then. This was going to be a bother.

As he heard the third voice however, Takehiko turned, and was met with a very welcome sight. Kaen. Although Takehiko had yet to work together with the Squad 7 Vice Captain, he'd heard plenty of stories about him, and was excited for the chance to see him in action. The two seemed relatively similar in work ethic, and Takehiko made a mental note to ask the other Vice Captain to spar at a later point, when most convenient. He didn't have enough experience fighting powerful unarmed combatants, which was Kaen's specialty. Takehiko's expectations for the mission jumped back up, with the four of them combined, they were more than capable of taking on what this mission had to offer. 

Takehiko followed Kagami's line of sight, ignoring the cocky remark that the other Vice Captain had made, to the waterfall. Their target was behind there? Felt like something out of a martial arts movie. At least Kagami acknowledge how cliche it was, Takehiko didn't want to feel like a stick in the mud. Something about the mission felt a little off, but Takehiko couldn't quite place it. He rested his right hand on his chin, holding the hand close to his chest to feel his sheath tattoo. It calmed him, although he wasn't exactly nervous to begin with.  Kagami began to move, and Takehiko followed close behind. As they poked their heads through the waterfall however, Takehiko's bad feeling suddenly got a lot worse, and that was when he saw the four red dots. "Ambush!" He called out, mostly for the benefits of the other two.

For all the showmanship that he displayed back in Vegas, Kagami was remarkably efficient, creating mirrors to intercept the shots, and linking them to act as a one way view. Takehiko quickly began to assess the situation. 8 foes total, 4 of them primarily melee fighters, likely defensively oriented, the other 4 ranged. Rifles, laser sights, and judging by the fact that Takehiko's eardrums were still intact, they possibly had silencers. These guys were well armed, to say the very elast. And as he mental reached out and felt their reiatsu, it felt strong. At the same time, they were clearly relatively weak physically, and of a lower caliber overall than Takehiko. Turning his attention towards the shield bearers, he sized them up as well. Little talent for reiatsu, but physically bulky. Those could possibly be even easier to deal with. But that's what they wanted, and the first rule of combat was never play into enemy expectations.

Although they were in the human world, they were far enough from civilization that Takehiko didn't need to worry about holding back. And besides, his allies were competent enough on their own that he wouldn't likely hurt them in the collateral. He started off by releasing the full force of his reiatsu, applying Gravitational Pressure to the enemies. Given that the shield bearers' reaitsu was so weak, they'd be lucky to move in his presence, let alone fight. With that, he Shunpo'd forward, bouncing off a bit of Air Ground that he formed, and landing behind the gunmen. He wasn't sure if they'd able to track his movements when he let loose, but figured that it would at least make matters more difficult. A broad stroke, aimed along the back of the necks of the two left most gun men, then sheathing his blade and quickly stepping towards the other two, sending several rapid blows towards the tips of their rifles, disarming them quickly and efficently. He wasn't sure if his allies would need to intervene, this was going to be a bloodbath.

Anastasia felt elated to be in the presence of all her favorite people so far. So far it was just her, Kazuko and Takehiko. Good company and now all she needed were good drinks… which she just so happened to have. Anastasia was never without rum. Rum was good for the soul but oftentimes, when she encountered strange people or found herself in an unusual situation… the rum was gone. Hm. There’s a pattern here and she really didn’t want to pick up on it. That only meant that her luck was proportional the amount of rum she carried…Oh well! Make the most of it, right~?! They were waiting on one more person, weren’t they? Welp, nothing could ruin her mood. Usually, nothing could. Her eyes causally turned to her smiling cousin who didn’t seem to mind her behavior at all. This is what Shoku-chan would call a saint.. but it’s way too early for that~.

The familiar roar of a plane’s engine assaulted the female’s ears and while she normally wasn’t interested, Take-chan seemed to be, causing her to look up as well. “Eh?” ..And just like that the ringmaster had arrived, making his slow descent from a plane in the sky whose sign drew curious attention. ”It’s a ‘Just Married’ sign… with the Married crossed out…Wow.” Shoku-chan was groaning with disgust at her new, incoming comrade. She’d raised her eyebrow at it as it flapped in the wind shamelessly. The tiniest, most amused of smiles slowly crept onto her face, her eyes following their new comrade as he made his way down into the dense forest. Well, that was golden. ”Oi. What’s his name again? I didn’t read that note too well. You did!” Her lackadaisical attitude towards anything in black and white was going to bite her in the ass one day. She knew it. Everyone else that knew her behavior knew that as well. ”Are you kidding me? ……Hmph… Kagami Murai. For god sakes, Anastasia, he’s the lieutenant of Squad 1!” She couldn’t help but giggle at being reprimanded by him; she knew she was wrong but it was funny.

Her idea was to assault him with shameless pickup lines and make him feel embarrassed but… “And, last but far from least, the beautiful Anastasia Solis-Kuchiki.” Interesting. She was mildly surprised. Anastasia had yet to actually meet someone who wasn’t so terrified of a few sweet words and a few more shameless actions. Was that how he introduced himself to all girls? Probably. Did it matter? Did she care? No and no. The pursuit of happiness was an odd one and if that was what kept him happy, far be it from her to stop him. Not that she would ever to begin with~ She respected that quite a bit. She took his hand, opting to be polite little noble for a second or two. But never three. Three sucks. She moved herself closer to him as he spoke. “I’ve looked forward to working with you for a long time, Anastasia,” She laughed a little, winking. “Heh. Nice ta meetcha ya, handsome~” her voice was velvety and smooth… while her free hand was working its way into his pockets. She managed to snag and hook her fingers on two kunai and swiftly pulled them out, moving them to her own pockets. “Stick with me and I think you’ll like more than just working with me~” and with that, she let go of his hand and pulled away from him.

She thought they were all there until she heard another familiar voice. “Ah~! Ka-chan~ It’s been too long~” She smiled warmly at him. “..Is it hot in here or it just you~?” It was meant to be flirtatious but he could take that any way he wanted to. Hell. It was probably going to get hotter here. Literally. She’s worked with Kaen before. There was ice… and arrows… and more ice. Plenty of German as well. Quincies were funny humans with no sense of humor… Except for Malik. She liked Malik and she was sure Kaen did too. Shade probably loved him but that’s a story for another time. As Kagami spoke, Anastasia pulled out her flask and started to drink, taking a single gulp. It was her ‘adventure time’ rum; Spanish and strong, just like her. Toss in some more metaphors and that usual bullshit line of ‘It makes you grow hair on your chest’ and you got her usual. Jeez.

“We have no clue what’s behind the water, and I’m not picking up any reiatsu, but let’s not take any risks. We’re going to jump through the water in this order: Me, Ponytails, Kaen, the kid, and lastly, Ana. I like to save the best for last.” She smirked. “Heh. Kinda like dessert, huh~?” Without missing a beat she followed after the others towards the waterfall. She heard Takehiko’s warning and immediately drew her nagamaki as she darted right into the heavy downpour of water, absolutely ready to back anyone up and attempt to do her usual number and take the easy route out. They had a welcoming party already. Jeez. She was behind Kazuko and he disappeared into thin air… like he was some kind of mirage. It happened before her very eyes. “Uh… Kazu-chan?” Here in one moment, gone in the next. He was definitely in front of her. What the hell happened to him? He’d gone in… but he wasn’t outside. Uhm. What? “Where did Kazu-chan g— Ah… that’s a problem” Fuckin’ 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. Big, ugly and unfortunate. Though, she wasn’t worried with them. At least, not after she felt the tiniest of tugs. Those shield wielding men dropped to the floor like flies.

She was glad she was the last one in. Anastasia didn’t hate fighting. Rather, if she could avoid it as much as possible, she’d do it. Hey, if Take-chan wants to beat these gorillas to a bloody pulp then far be it from her to stop him. She wanted to have his back though. #KuchikiPride. With that in mind, she dug into her pocket and pulled out the two kunai she’d stolen from Kagami earlier. “Psst. Take-chan~” she’d called out to him not bothering to hide anything at all. She was dangling them from her finger like they were key rings or something. “I stole this for you~” Hey! She was caring in anyway she could possibly be. If that meant stealing, well, you didn’t have to tell her. She wasn’t blood but she was a Kuchiki by heard. She figured he’d take her up on that kunai thing but lowered her hand when she saw him go full ham on those wee little human piggies with the guns. Nope. No help needed.

“…Nevermind then~”

[Kaen Youji]

Kagami was brief with the introductions, and Kaen gave a halfhearted shrug. ”Yo. So I doubt we’ll need more than this. Can we get going?” He requested, and began to follow Kagami towards the waterfall. Oh! There was Anastasia too. Well, that was the first fun thing about the assignment. Anastasia was a fun sport about these sorts of things. Kagami seemed to have a big thing about being cool. Takehiko…. Nothing yet. Kaen would figure that out as he went along. But Anastasia was certainly fun, able to bring life to even the most tedious or gruelling of assignments. Before Kaen could answer though, Kagami started talking again. Awww…..

Kagami was making some big speech about the villain being behind the waterfall. To Kaen, while it was nice to get out once in awhile, he would much prefer to finish the mission quickly so he could hang out in the human world for longer. He couldn’t help but roll his eyes at Kagami’s speech a little. ”Well that’s dull. If one Vice Captain could do the job, why’d you bring so many?” He pressed.

But Kagami was already going through the waterfall, and Takehiko followed. As soon as he did, Kaen heard the cry of ‘Ambush’! Oh? Maybe this would still be fun! Kaen was in moments after Anastasia, and surveyed the scene. Eight adversaries, four with shields, four with guns. Hmm. Vice Captains outnumbered two to one. Kaen identified the shields as being similar to the Roman Scutum shield. Good for formation fighting, but pretty lousy for single combat. It covered up a lot, but was difficult to maneuver. Weaknesses he could exploit. As for the gunners, it wasn’t a problem. Throw off their aim and they’d go down easily. Except that Kagami had disappeared. Three per Vice Captain then. Well. Rather. Three for two, and then one got to take two more out.

”Standard formation. The front four are a wall to keep us away from the back four, who will lay down suppressive fire.” Kaen remarked with a small smirk. ”Effective tactic, but basic.” Or should that be basic but effective? Didn’t matter. It’d buckle. Takehiko’d already engaged the gunmen, so Kaen hurtled forwards, weaving to avoid gunfire, right at their front line. First……[/color] Kaen threw a powerful punch forwards into the top of his opponents shield. His fist, if it struck, would hammer against the shield, and, with the tremendous strength difference between the two, twist back, potentially harming the shieldbearer’s wrist or disarming him. But Kaen’s eyes would widen in slight surprise—he’d expected his punch to go clear through the shield.

It didn’t matter. What mattered, was that even if the shield held, it would inevitably tilt back. Afterall, Kaen’s fist had struck it like the force of a cannonball. This formed a diagonal slant, that only one of Kaen’s reflexes and speed could take advantage of. In a single fluid motion, Kaen rushed forwards, planting one foot onto the shield and then springing off, whipping around in a midair spinning kick, not at the man he had just struck at, but at the man to his left, using the momentum of his springing motion to carry him past his first target, and allow him to bring his heel cracking across the back of his opponent’s neck, his free leg tucked, but primed—like a loaded shotgun, ready to fire at the first individual brave—or stupid, enough to try and close in.

[Douma]

Things began well for Takehiko. He had managed to maneuver behind the attacking party in little to no time at all, using that combination of Shunpo and Air Ground. He had dispatched of two of the four gunmen, leaving him six of the initial eight to retaliate. He had also succeeded in disarming the remaining two gunmen. However, before he could force them out of the fight, the gunman nearest two him would slowly exhale a purple gas from his mouth. He had used Energy Generate: Dokumu, and the poison would spread out to encompass the space of a small car. If Takehiko inhaled even a minuscule amount, he would find himself coughing blood. However, Takehiko’s ability to block out pain would keep the burning sensation in his throat from slowing him down. In the mean time, the second man would have used Movement to distance himself to the opposite end of the cave, just twenty meters away. Using Energy Generate: Aisusupia, he hardened the moisture into the air as an ice spear and propelled it towards Takehiko at a speed of 300.

Kaen, in the mean time, was facing the physical fighters with the shields.. By striking the shield with a punch, the man behind the large barrier was forced to put all his effort into not being thrown off his feet. He slid back a foot or two, but, over all, managed to hold on to his balance. However, Kaen couldn’t have anticipated the unique properties of the shield that he would soon witness. As the Shinigami attempted to use the shield as a platform and leap off it, the human behind him would activate a technique that appears to be very similar to Hado #1: Sho. An invisible force would be emitted from the shield and propel Kaen back with a force equal to the human’s strength of 450. The Vice Captain, who had at first attempted a backflip, would find himself thrown into the jagged ceiling of the cave above before he could complete his heel strike on the other nearby target.

Ana, on the other hand, decided to stay out of the fight for now. Either she was confident in her comrades’ ability to handle the current threats or she felt more comfortable behind the current. It could be both, but at least she felt some urge to help. “Psst. Take-chan~” Kagami gave her a confused look, though his half smile signified that he was slightly amused. He obviously wasn’t worried either. Takehiko and Kaen could handle those grunts any day, even if they were taken off guard by a surprise or two, Kagami was almost certain that they could continue to make progress in a bit. However, before he could jump in to get a taste of the action, Ana had thrown a surprise down his way. “I stole this for you~” Kagami was genuinely puzzled. He had read all the Vice Captains’ profiles front to back, and the only one who used kunais was… him! Kagami’s face lit up with a full grin. As soon as she had lowered the projectile, Kagami used Shunpo to appear right beside her, snatched the blade out of her grasp, and winked, his face no more than a foot from her’s. “Reaching into my pants already? Didn’t we skip a few steps?”

Kagami slipped the blade back in his kunai pouch and used Shunpo once again to appear directly in front of the outside shield man to Kagami’s right. With his sword ready, all he needed to do was tap the enemy’s shield with his sword and the whole shield would suddenly gain a new reflective surface. Kagami would quickly back off, since the human would most likely be too focused on maintaining the ghost of their now broken formation. As he does so, a jade blade would appear outside the inside of the shield, impaling the man right through his heart. He died before he hit the ground immediately. Even with Kagami’s help, there were still two gunmen and three shield wielders remaining. The task remains the same for now: eliminate the enemies.

As the man exhaled the purple cloud, Takehiko immediately flinched back, covering an overwhelming amount of ground in the motion. He prepared to hold his breath, but he was clearly out of the range of the gas. The ability was something that Takehiko had limited experience with, a human world dweller technique. Almost Kido like, but with a different set of limitations. Highly interesting. His eyes widened slightly as the other gunman launched his attack however. A spear of ice fired out directly at Takehiko. If it hit, it was probably going to rip through his flesh. He could dodge it, but he was slightly off balance from the flinch reaction. Instead, he drew, and cleaved the icicle in twain, the two pieces continuing their motion forwards to either side of him.

Now, he was forced to reevaluate the situation. With the cloud in the way, reengaging the snipers would be more difficult, since he'd have to travel through the poison. So instead, he reexamined the state of the battlefield, and where his priorities lay. Although his original plan was to take out the snipers alone, he'd already succeeded in removing, or at least minimizing, them as a threat. Between having killed two and disarmed the others, he'd provided a fair amount of cover for his friends. But the combatants with the shields were unaccounted for.

As he turned his attention towards his allies, he noted that his cousin hadn't entered combat yet. Good, it lowered her chances of getting injured. Not that it was his job to protect her, she was a Vice Captain in her own right and could easily hold her own in a fight. But at the same time, she was family, and Takehiko was overprotective of people he had a blood relation to. She'd always been kind to him, and he doubted that he'd forgive himself if she got seriously wounded. Instead, she appeared to have been playing around with Kagami, giving their leader a bit of a hard time. If they weren't in a life and death situation, he'd have smiled. Kagami deserved a bit of shit, and the fact that this situation was clearly not dire enough to command their full attentions bode well for the mission as a whole.

Kagami on the other hand was in a state of semi seriousness. He wasn't taking command, which surprised Takehiko slightly. The Vice Captain had always struck Takehiko as someone who seized the day, and ordered people around with his greater understanding of the way combat worked. Instead, he was quiet save for that one liner in reference to Ana. Then, Kagami had focused on the combat, and killed one of the shield wielding foes with a quick maneuver utilizing his Shikai and the man's shield. Important information, Takehiko still didn't have the best grasp on Kagami's capabilities, so seeing him in combat was good.

And then Kaen. Takehiko was slightly surprised at the resistance that the armored foes put up against Kaen, given that he didn't seem to be holding back. Perhaps the shields were difficult for the hand to hand fighter to overcome? His fancy footwork only seemed to get him launched towards the ceiling, rapidly and dangerously. Takehiko briefly wondered if he should intercept the other Vice Captain, and potentially help him out of the sticky situation. But he decided against it. The captain was highly capable, and there was no reason to insult him by suggesting otherwise. Instead, he focused on their enemies.

Given that the gunmen were disarmed or dead, and seemed to be switching to Energy Generate techniques, Takehiko decided he could leave them behind, and instead engage the shield carriers. He burst into motion, refraining from Shunpo in order to save his energy, and stuck to the cave wall in order to avoid the cloud of poison. As he reached the ledge, he bounced off, landing next to the furthest shield bearer, at the man's right shoulder. He spun around the man, making it hard, if not impossible, to track the movement with his guard. Then, once he had guaranteed access to the man's back, he made a vertical cut, fast and deep, along the man's spine. If it hit, the man would never walk again, even if he survived.

Anastasia had been watching carefully. She had some foreign feelings going on. One of them being concern. She’d never truly been concerned for anyone else. Well, Shoku was an exception but he was a spirit. All he could really do was just talk to her. She mostly used to care for herself. However, after becoming a Kuchiki she realized that it was just about her anymore. Even if it was, she wasn’t going to be happy if it was. There was more than one person in her life. There was a shit ton. Blood cousins and adopted ones. She loved them all. Well, Hokori got less love but her point stood; Anastasia cared for her family. Despite the fact that she was a little rude and oftentimes vulgar, she did honestly try to show it in anyway she could. At the moment, she wasn’t entirely fond of that purple gas coming from one of the gunmen or the ice spear. Anastasia caught herself looking on with slight worry.

Ahh… He’s strong! He’s got it covered~! Well, that only lasted a few seconds. The mischievous female contemplated pegging someone in the head with a Kunai. She’d done something similar to another foe with one of Kazuko’s candy bars… but Kazuko nor his delicious morsels were anywhere in sight. She’d have to settle for some stabby-stabby. In a burst of speed, her fellow oh-so-egotistical-but-very-attractive-leader was by her side. Her haunting white irises merely glanced at him from the side before she turned her head, see him wink. All she could do was smirk wickedly in return. Especially when he snatched them out of her hand. He didn’t seem entirely upset about her stealing his weapons… but he certainly reacted differently than she had anticipated. “Reaching into my pants already? Didn’t we skip a few steps?”

Anastasia didn’t waste any time at all. The second he snatched the kunai, she held his hand before he took off, moving a little closer. She made a point to keep it away from his kunai pouch. It was as if she had something important to say to him. She let go as she spoke. “We can skip a few more if you’d like. Maybe this time, you’ll lose ‘em~ ” Or maybe it wasn’t that important. She’d done it in the name of thievery and mischief. That specifically was important to her. Being thwarted once wasn’t going to keep her down. Once again, her hand was in his pocket and she attempted to dig out another kunai. You could say her Essentially, he’d gain a kunai but still lose one because she went back at it again. If she was successful, she’d once again have the kunai in her possession and this time, quickly hiding it behind her back as he moved away with the same burst of speed. Jeez. Shunpo everywhere.

This time, she was actually going to do something. “I don’t think you’re going to actually hurt anyone but yourself with that…” her Shoku-chan commented. He was such a debbie-downer. Of course she wasn’t going to hurt someone… and that wan’t entirely true. On Wednesdays, she’s only hurts herself when she gets out of bed and it was purely accidental and coincidental and always, monumental. Gah. Who to hit. Maybe she didn’t have to hit anyone. Maybe she could throw it to someone. Life is hard when you really didn’t want to get your hands dirty. You get this nasty disease called “Guilt” and “Remorse” for weird reasons and it's all messy and stuff. “No. It’s not…How do you live with yourself?” He asked her sarcastically.

Takehiko seemed to be doing alright. Someone else caught her eye though. Kaen. Even if she was paying attention to the others, he did not go unnoticed. He seemed to be holding his own but there was someone behind him and being the faithful decent comrade she was, she decided to start there. Pegging people in the head had always worked in the past for her. If she still had the freshly stolen Kunai within her grasp, she was going to throw it straight at the guy behind Kaen. It was a vain attempt to distract him from doing.. .whatever he was going to do. Honestly, in a fight like this, it couldn’t have been good. If you wanted to stick around to see if someone dangerous was gonna beat you to a bloody pulp, then you probably deserve it. Why wait to get your ass beat? Assuming is the key to life.

“Again. No it’s not.”

Well, assume good. Or else, you make an ass out of yourself. If it hit the man on his head, well, she wasn’t going to look. Maybe it did something amazing. She wasn't an expert at throwing weapons. She was an expert at bullshit and most of the time, she liked to think it worked out for her even when it didn't. She immediately threw her hands up like she was about to be arrested and looked away momentarily as if she wasn’t responsible. All she wanted to do was distract him from launching any sort of attack on Kaen. He wouldn’t be thrown to any jagged ceiling. The man's attention would likely be somewhere else and more than likely open for one of the other three who were feeling particularly aggressive. His heel strikes would go through and once again, she could return to chilling out and doing absolutely nothing for as long as she possibly could.

Kaen had felt an impact like this before, and he was not entirely surprised. It was reasonable to assume the opponents had some kind of special equipment. But, as Kaen was launched towards the ceiling, it would become apparent to all that he was completely in control. The shield had still served as a springboard, just launching in the opposite direction that he had intended. "That it?" He asked, angling himself in the air so that he faced the ceiling. Time for something a bit reckless. "TOH!" Kaen unleashed a Kiai as his fist struck the ceiling, amplifying his momentum with the opponent's own Sho attack. Kaen was strong. Very strong. Were Kaen to stomp, he could create localized tremors. With a proper punching technique, such as the one he had just delivered to the ceiling of the cavern, results were much more significant. A horrific sound tore through the room, as the ceiling completely shattered under the force of Kaen's punch, sending tremendous chunks of the ceiling, some weighing over a metric ton, crashing down on the unfortunate defenders. Shield or no shield, these men were about to be buried under solid rock, shieldsmen, gunman and all. Furthermore, the falling debris served to obscure Kaen from return fire from the gunmen!

Kaen's power was focused though-- and the debris would only fall on the half of the cavern in which their opposition stood, and thus only Takehiko would need to move to evade them.
