((OOC: Yeah, it would be nice if he thought things through while drunk, wouldn't it? That's too bad, at least for Rave... >_>; ))
“Captaaaaaaaaaaaain!”
Raion’s eyes widened as he saw the bullet pierce his Captain’s torso and tore his chest and ribs to shreds. The lion’s jaw dropped open—which was an impressive image with his leonine muzzle, as well as the pointed teeth that were revealed—when he saw the carnage from the redirected bullets. The blood that splattered the scene, the exposed viscera… the Vice Captain, loyal to Rave as he was, was in shock upon seeing the damage done to his superior. He would have run to try and treat the man’s wounds as best as he could, or at least quickly take him through a Senkaimon to get him to Squad 4 for treatment, but between his horror at the sight before him and the alcohol fogging his brain, the lion could only stare in mute horror.
Various emotions built up within him, unrestrained by inhibition or conscious focus; sadness, believing that his Captain was dead, was the first of the big feline’s feelings as he tried to cope with what happened. After that was horror, both at the power of the Ogatago and the fall of Rave Haretsu despite the power of his Bankai. But beneath both of those, something more ferocious and feral sparked, and Raion’s eyes suddenly blazed with a powerful anger. Drunk, he fed the anger within him without mercy, letting it become an all-consuming flame. There was no doubt he intended to avenge his Captain, no matter what it took, even if it was a suicidal attempt. He didn’t even have a Bankai of his own yet, just his Shikai, yet the Vice Captain was willing to throw everything he had at the Ogatago in an attempt to make things right, to deal justice to a man who was now nothing but pure evil in his eyes.
“Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhhhhh!” The yell of anger turned into a roar midway through, and suddenly a score of liquid filaments of sake shot out from the jug that Raion kept at his side. The mass suddenly exploded in all directions, almost like a woven, shimmering cocoon that would move to surround Nilus from multiple sides. The mental strain was enormous, doubly so because Raion’s alcohol-sodden brain could barely concentrate enough to maintain so many threads at once. Directing them was almost impossible, and only in that initial burst did the lion have control over all of them going in different directions. Immediately he was forced to simplify his commands, and the mass of liquid threads spun in one direction—clockwise around Nilus—forming a half-sphere inches from the ground to surround the Ogatago. Any touch to an individual sake serpent would be only somewhat daunting for the man, as it wouldn’t even begin to faze him with its powers of inebriation, but with a few dozen spinning around him, one hit would turn into several quickly, driving Nilus to drunkenness and inhibiting his impressive senses in seconds.
But Raion didn’t drive his attack inward immediately, having a hard time controlling that many threads. His initial burst of anger had driven him to a desperate use of one of his Shikai abilities, spreading it thin so that individual attacks were pathetic and weak, while also being difficult to control without a simple group command to make them move in unison. But by surrounding Nilus, Raion had unwittingly set up a field for Sozen to use. If the lion wasn’t out of control by his alcohol-enhanced anger, he might have done so intentionally in order to combine his powers with Sozen’s. The Vice Captain had figured out that the Kuchiki’s power had to do with making blades from red objects, though he didn’t know how the man had created a field that was completely red. If he was in his right mind, Raion would have set up a large, twisting field that would provide a constantly mobile source for Sozen’s blades. In fact, he may have even made use of the field of sake-constructed serpents he had now, encouraging Sozen to turn it red however he had before and use the constant stream to create millions of blades from countless directions.
But alas, the lion was too far gone in his anger to plan this out; at the moment the current motion of sake was advantageous for Sozen. However, it wouldn’t last long; already Raion was jabbing inwards, sending two or three coils of liquid at a time at Nilus. It was only a second command, easier to hold; a general command to move a handful of sake streams was nothing like moving each individual one in a different direction. This was done easily enough, and though it was fairly swift, Nilus’s amazing senses and speed would likely allow him to negate it. Raion didn’t care, however, unthinking and simply acting. He lashed out with everything he had, attacking blindly and hoping to score. If Sozen was going to act to use the lion’s furious strikes, it would have to be soon, before there was nothing left to strike with.
