I know thats there's a grading scale and character apps are graded by staff but i was wondering if it was possible to present a high-end app and still start off at class 7.
Basically can i present a.... class 4-ish app and still start off at the bottom?
Second question, has anyone ever completely finished the acadamy schooling? Trying to figure out if its actually worthwhile to start at the bottom. After reading about the 7th year, i dont think ive ever been that motivated to learn because that would exciting to RP out but I also wanna make captain (eventually).
Of course i absolutely realize this all hinges on me establishing a character but i solemnly promise you wont be disappointed with the detail ive put into it.
Another question: is Styrofoam an already claimed "power"?

You could make an app that was Class 1 in uniqueness in length and still start out at Class 7, no problem. There is nothing wrong with putting extra detail, as long as you don't go too overboard. Also, I don't believe that Styrofoam is an already used power, but it wouldn't matter regardless. There are several characters with Fire Manipulation as a power, so if they can all exist, I'm sure that we could have more than one Styrofoam-based power. I'm truly curious to see how you'll construct said power. Also, the Academy schooling will be undergoing changes in the near future, so it's recommended to just start out as a nonseated officer instead of a student, but it's your choice, of course.

>_>;;; "as long as you dont go too overboard" ..... i'll have to revisit this topic again.
I almost feel like i should aim for as high as possible so i dont have to inhibit myself but that kinda take the fun out of being able to Rp the growth of your character to stronger ranks.

"Too overboard" would be droning on and on. If you can write something more concise and have it be interesting, not just size for the sake of size. For instance, if you are writing three full paragraphs about your character's eyes, that is overboard. A full paragraph or two about his whole face can be interesting but not a pain to have to read.

I was more curious about technique-wise concerning ellaboration. Apply the same concept? 2-3 paragraphs should be plenty? I've looked at a variety of profiles to kinda get a standard to work off of but it never hurts to double check.

oh no, you definitely want to put a good amount of effort into that part. It can't be changed normally, so if you don't do a good job on your powers then it'll never amount to anything. For great examples, look at characters like Kuroi, Enma, and Okusa. Don't make it so complex and convoluted that it can't be understood out of character, but rather make it be simple but detailed. Don't skimp on the powers.

The academy has been finished by multiple people up to year five. No one has ever even scored into year six or year seven, and therefore no one has finished either of these two "bonus years."
