Hello!

To those who don't already know me I'm known as [smear:FF0000]Funnygenic[/smear:00FF00]. I've examined quite a few character bios and I've come across some rather illogical facts concerning dates to be precise. When I began writing my character's bio I paid extra attention to the correct timing of events e.g. when automobiles were invented, certain people existed and even the discovery of electricity. Knowing these little details I was able to place my character in the era I held most in favor.

The first working steam-powered vehicle was likely to have been designed by Ferdinand Verbiest, a Flemish member of a Jesuit mission in China around 1672. (Wikipedia main article: History of the automobile). Assuming my character was born in that year his real age would be 340 years. Let's say that he died at the age of 24. That would of course mean he'd have no knowledge of Justin Bieber, silky underwear or even My Little Pony within his lifespan.

The reason I started this thread is because some character bios are anachronic, meaning chronologically misplaced. I understand that when a Hollow consumes a soul he/she gains all the knowledge the victim possessed. But when we have a 700 (totally random number) year old Arrancar who's history contains nothing but wandering in the desert for the last 600 years and still for no apparent reason dislikes the new Honda Civic... People, I believe we have a problem. That is impossible without any interaction with human cultures.

He could've consumed the souls of other Hollows and gained their knowledge.

No! Every soul loses its memory of past lives, meaning Hollows, Shinigami and Akki know nothing of their past human lives. It's the same in real life. We know nothing of who we were or what we may have accomplished. I could've been Hitler for all I know Of course there are some exceptions.

I advise everyone to check whether their character's age fits with the history they wrote.

Honestly, it's a rather puny issue. It's of no importance in the least. Besides that, nothing stops characters from just making their way to the human world at any time. So they would easily be able to immerse themselves in this culture.

It's frankly not a big deal at all.

Not even close to being true. Actually, from what we've seen it's completely the opposite. Any soul when queried about its past life has been able to answer. Shrieker remembered his life perfectly, including the exact details of how he died. The Parakeet Kid also remembered his life when he ended up in Soul Society and remembered team Ryoka and what they'd done for him (he specifically mentioned he was still looking for his mother). Orihime's Brother also remembered his past life.

Honestly, I don't think we've yet run into a character that couldn't remember their past life if they were asked about it.

Unless you count the movies as Canon. If you remember, Ichigo asked Urahara if normal shinigami remember their past lives, and he said not normally, no. Of course, I'm paraphrasing here. It's been awhile since I watched the movies. But, I don't think the movie's count as Canon.

Kaen I also wrote that there are of course some exceptions. Did you even delve into what I wrote?

If I'm not mistaken, Shrieker is also the only Hollow who has shown to have memories of his Human life before his death. He even made an appearance in the 4th Bleach movie, Bleach: Hell Chapter. Shrieker makes a comeback in the form of a Togabito.

Orihime's brother, Sora (Acidwire) knew nothing of his past life. While alive, he was shown to have cared for his sister, whom he thought of as a daughter, and doing whatever it took to protect her. When he was twenty-seven, Orihime and Sora had an argument over the hairpins he had bought for her. The next morning, Sora left for work, but did not speak to Orihime. That day, he died in the Kurosaki Clinic after being injured in a car accident. For the following three years, he listened to Orihime's prayers and stories about her friends, which eventually left him feeling lonely and resentful of her friends.

Some, however, stay in the living world to fulfill certain goals, such as looking after a loved one, protecting a particular location, or pursuing a grudge from beyond the grave. Honestly, I thought we'd already finished this thread adequately. The problem was chronology, not the memory of past lives.

Sora remembered Orihime, hence why he attacked her. He held feelings, but truth is the hunger was stronger. Most Hollows remember their past lives. This is fact. They cease to remember when they become Menos. Because Menos are hundreds of lives put together. Hundreds of Hollows to make one, new being. This is where Hollows lose memories.

Similarly, spirits with no potential for reiatsu will remember their past lives. Spirits in the Soul Society who can become Shinigami, meaning with reiatsu, will gradually or inevitably forget.
