All in all, Manabu was starting to get a little disheartened. Maybe it was because he was losing a three on one battle featuring a captain and a bankai using 3rd seat (his own 3rd seat no less). Maybe it was seeing yet another Captain of the Gotei 13 in, shall we say, less than splendor. Perhaps it was the failure of every strategy he'd implemented up to this point. Later he'd tell himself that each failure was the fault of a comrade, but then he'd tell himself that a more responsible strategist would have accounted for those possibilities. There hadn't really been room for mistakes before, but now they were really on the edge of dying. Manabu had to take a whole new sort of risk. He would have only himself to blame at the end of this one.
The purpose for which he'd initially transferred Shonen to Benkei-taicho had not been achieved. Now that he was largely out of commission, at the very least for the next few moments, it would fall back to Manabu. Of course, that was contingency plan B. Contingency plan A had been for Kaen-dai-san-seki to take Shonen. Then things got a little screwy. Manabu went for Benkei as soon as he was hit. He wasn't going to help him. He just needed to grab Shonen. There wasn't much Manabu could do for Benkei anyway. He'd expected Kaen to occupy Goku, and Kaen delivered. Then it appeared. A white, glimmering ray of hope. Goku's giant glove was there, and the wonderful thing about gigantic, impressive defenses (as well as attacks to a lesser degree) is that they take away a lot of visibility.
That was just icing on the cake; a stroke of luck. Manabu would have done the same thing either way. Shonen in hand, Manabu shunpoed forward. He wasn't going to try anything as showy as getting behind Goku to launch an attack. That would be ridiculous. It might work, but it would likely get him killed shortly after. Manabu needed to shunpo in order to get some speed behind Shonen. With this high-speed based throw, he managed to get the projectile there in about the same window as Kaen's dragon. Manabu could never have thrown fast enough to keep up with that dragon normally.
Shonen connected with the glove and was absorbed. Here's where things get interesting. Shonen was still using Help. Even Manabu wasn't quite sure what would happen next. There were two possibilities. The original plan had been to actually use Help on Goku at which point Shonen would appear on him. At that point, enjoying the phenomenal spiritual strength of his host, he would turn into rather powerful bindings. Though they might not hold Goku indefinitely, they would certainly prove inconvenient for a little bit. However, Goku was using his wonderful glove. You know the one. It adds the properties of absorbed attacks to his own attacks. In the moments to come, with a dragon fireball barreling down on Kaen, we shall soon see either Goku with Shonen or Kaen with Diamante.
This was no time for spectating though. Manabu shrouded himself in curved light once more, hopefully while unseen by Goku. He didn't make a false image this time. He just made his way back to the heavily injured captain behind him.
He knelt beside Benkei and whispered, "Benkei-taicho, I can needle some pressure points in order to relieve some of your pain temporarily, but it will almost definitely cause more damage. You may be able to fight more effectively, but not for long." What sort of man fights by handing his sword to his enemy and stabbing his allies?
It's hip to be square.
Remaining reiatsu: 824 (814 if Benkei-taicho wants to be needled)
