Ranmyaku dove out of the akki’s fearsome attack. He emerged rather unharmed when compared to his two comrades. A gash had made its way down the reptile’s back. The captain cringed as blood spurted out of his back, but he’d done what he’d gone to do. The shinigami was out of the demon’s range. “KAHAHAHA!ALL THREE. I CAN SPEAK TO ALL FUCKING THREE OF YOU CAUSE OF YOUR FUCKING WOUNDS, BITCHES! HAHAHA! You guys know what you should fucking do? You should jump on top of him and gauge out his eyes! HAHAHAHAHA! Hell, how bout aiming to shove some shit up his nose?! Wouldn't that be fun?! HAHAHAHAHAHA!” said a voice in all three of the newcomer’s heads. This was Ranmyaku’s first time hearing this voice, and he was rather disturbed at the things it was saying. However, such violence was to be expected in hell.
The akki began his second phase of attack, creating a cyclone with his huge sword, pulling the three towards him. The captain immediately anchored himself to the ground with his claws, but Goliath wasn’t about to have this. Much to the shinigami’s annoyance he lashed out at him with his immense whip-like chain. Getting hit twice in the back was simply unacceptable, so before the attack reached him the shinigami leapt to the side. This was a tricky maneuver because Goliath’s attack was pulling him closer, however Ranmyaku was considerable more heavy then the other two and leagues stronger than both of them. It was simple for him to regain his grip on the ground after he’d avoided the chain. He’d lost some ground, but the captain was unharmed aside from the gash on his back. Ranmyaku was certainly better off than Jin or Benkei right now.
This is when the captain noticed the burning underneath him. “Ow!” thought the captain lifting his left hand out of the ground and examining his palm. His remaining three limbs released their grip just enough so that only his claws were touching the “burning” ground. “There doesn’t seem to be any damage... But the pain was so real...” mused the captain before locking eyes with the creature again, “No wonder you’re so angry... You poor soul...” There the captain went again. He was feeling misplaced pity for the creatures he related to. This sensation was, again, shaken from the lizard’s mind. “No... I can’t be thinking like that... This is hell...” Just as the lizard finished thinking, the annoying spirit chimed in again. “HAHAHAHA! I SEE IT NOW. YOU GUYS AIN'T SINNERS, BUT YOU GOT HERE ANYWAY. KYAHAHAHAHAHA! So that's what you're thinking? "Ohhhh noooo. I don't belong here! Saaaveee meeee! There's been a mistake!" HAHAHAHAHAHA! Don't you know anything? LIFE'S NOT FAIR. EVERYONE SAYS THAT IN YOUR WORLD. So then shouldn't you know? DEATH'S NOT FAIR EITHER! HAHAHAHAHAHA! SO WHAT IF YOU DON'T BELONG HERE?! THERE WAS ANOTHER GUY LIKE YOU AGES AGO. A Vizard with black hair. Know what? He wasn't dead like the sinners that dwell here. He wasn't a sinner. He didn't deserve to be here. Guess what happened to him? HE FULLY HOLLOWFIED AND SPENT A HUNDRED YEARS HERE! HAHAHAHAHAHA! And the only reason he got out is because a regular guy like him, not even a sinner, managed to survive that hundred years. Lucifer-Sama let him go free because of his strength. Lucifer-Sama saw potential to cause chaos in your world. THAT'S THE ONLY REASON HE LET HIM GO! HAHAHAHAHA! YOU'RE GONNA BE STUCK HERE FOREVER!”
As the akki roared, the lizard’s stomach fell. It seemed Lucifer was his only ticket out of here, and he highly doubted that the Prince of Darkness would ever let a shinigami working for Soul Society leave. He would most likely be stuck here for eternity. Tears literally began welling in the reptile’s eyes at this realization. If Jin and Benkei had any common sense, this news would hit them hard too. Ranmyaku wished for death now. He hoped that if he died his soul would not be trapped here. Surely righteous spirits couldn’t be damned to hell by mistake. Surely the Spirit King had set up safeguards to prevent such a mistake. After all, the Spirit King had ultimate authority of every spiritual realm, right? But maybe there was indeed a way out. Eternity would offer him as long as he needed to escape this place, and he was confident that he was starting out a lot stronger than most humans that were sent here. All he had to do was prove to Lucifer that he was strong and ravenous. Ravenous was something the 8th squad captain was able to pull off extremely well. The lizard’s eyes began to change from their welcoming, sensible appearance to take on a more beastly look. The reptile’s eyes became snake-like and ferocious as he inhaled and exhaled at an increased pace. The shinigami was becoming the animal he was, but suddenly a loud sound snapped the lizard back to normal.
Dong.......... Dong........... Dong............
In the distance a bell tolled. The shinigami couldn’t see the source of the noise, but their guide spoke as to explain the event, “Ah. The start of a new day in Hell. Get ready. You've never experienced anything like this before.” Instantly the shinigami was on the ground. He didn’t remember falling, but his stomach was pressed against the ground regardless. The lizard didn’t even hear Beelzebub speaking. He was simply smashed by his voice and pressed against the burning ground. “UUUUGGGGNNNNNHHHHH!!!!” grunted the reptile as he writhed around on the ground. It wasn’t only the ground that was hurting him. His insides were on fire. Luckily Goliath seemed to be suffering as well. Ranmyaku only hoped that the akki would take longer to recover than him. Unfortunately for the captain that was not the case. Goliath was much more used to Hell’s daily activities then him and he got up and commenced the fight. “No... I’m not ready...” thought the lizard as he writhed on the ground. He needed more time to recover. Benkei, however, was able to move and made a dash towards the creature. “Wait... NO!” yelled the shinigami, feeling responsible for his ally’s well being. The captain was extremely caring and hated losing comrades in battle. He thought that Benkei was rushing to his death.
Benkei had premeditated the sacrifice that Ranmyaku was trying to keep him from preforming. Just as the captain thought, Benkei’s legs were swept out from under him and severed completely. “SHIT!” grunted the soul reaper as he forced himself to jump to his feet. That was when he realized what Benkei had done. Goliath had emerged from their clash with a crippling blow to his arm. The other captain had sacrificed himself for their safety. That was supposed to be his job! He was supposed be the one to protect his comrades! That was why he became a captain! The akki left swiftly. It seemed that this creature was an opportunist, and risking anything further would possibly detrimental to his survival in hell.
The captain ran over to Benkei, lifting his legless body off of the burning ground. “You idiot!” said the creature with a worried, shocked tone, “You’ve just killed yourself, and for what?!?” The captain’s attention was caught, however, by the healing aura surrounding the bount. Before the lizard’s eyes Jin’s injuries were completely healed. “Please remain still,” said the bount approaching the reptile. The captain’s face furrowed as his wound healed. “Heal Benkei first!” commanded the lizard, “I can wait! Heal my comrade! Please!” However, Jin was already done healing the lizard and his attention turned to the shinigami in the lizard’s arms. “Stay still,” he commanded in a business-like tone, “I remember you. Y-you killed my allies during the Holocaust...” The bount’s formal voice was replaced with one of anger. Apparently he and Benkei had a history. Ranmyaku didn’t care about that. All he wanted was his ally healed. He felt responsible for his well-being. The lizard’s eyes glared at the bount with a serious expression. He was a millisecond away from forcing this bount to heal his friend, but thankfully Jin put aside his squabble and focused on the much more important issue. “You killed my allies, but I won’t let you die here because we both know that we’ll need each other to survive,” said Jin, much to Ranmyaku’s relief. Benkei’s legs were returned to him and the captain let him walk on his own.
The three continued walking with Jin leading the way. Ranmyaku preferred it this way. He didn’t want the bount standing behind him. He still didn’t trust Jin fully. Apparently the bount had some beef with shinigami and was practically a human himself. There was just something about humans that the lizard despised. As they continued towards Tartarus a huge spiderweb formed around the three of them seemingly instantly. They were trapped. In the web were three spheres placed in a sequence. One was red, one was green, and the last was purple. Suddenly words of flame formed in front of them. The message was cryptic and confusing, then suddenly the demonic voice spoke again.
“This puzzle's fucking easy. Anyone in Hell can answer this fucking question. You motherfuckers better not take a wrong shit. I ain't telling you the answer unless you give me your fucking souls you bitchasses. But it's easy shit. I'm gonna be pissed if you get this one wrong, that's for sure. So if you get it wrong, you can go fuck yourselves you bitchass motherfuckers. This is probably something that even you people from fucking Soul Society can solve if you're familiar enough with how things in the human world work. That said, solve this fucking puzzle already you dipshits.”
How tiresome that got. Ranmyaku hoped that if he escaped from hell then whatever was speaking to them would be removed. Ranmyaku squinted as he stared up at the message trying to make some sense of it. This was normally Benkei’s field of expertise, but if the demon said it was easy then maybe he had some hope of solving it. Suddenly Ranmyaku looked down towards Jin who had etched something into the ground with his convert-a-weapon. “Do you understant this?” was spelled out in hell’s soil. Well no, of course he didn’t understand it, but at least he could try to. The captain took the spear from Jin, squatted down, and began to write a series of alphabets on top of each other with different offsets. The shinigami had figured out fairly quickly that it was a simple Caesar cipher with multiple alphabet shifts. Benkei was likely following his work from over his shoulder and finding it to all be accurate. The captain finished his work and scratched “Who is our prince? His son. VEX = 22-5-24” into the ground. Now the captain sat and thought for a moment. Who could possibly be the son of Lucifer and the prince of all that was damned. To Ranmyaku the answer was obvious. The reptile was the perfect one to answer this question, because to him human nature was the root of all evil. It was likely that not even Benkei had considered this possibility.
So the captain etched his first guess into the ground and below it started applying the 22, 5, 24 shift to each letter accordingly. He was left with “D Z K W S L W Y S N J.” The lizard was downtrodden. “DZKWS LWYSNJ? That can’t be right...” he said as he began to think of what else besides human nature could possibly be the son of Satan. Little did the lizard know he just spoke the right answer.
OOC: No worries. This is NOT your opponent. You don't get to see your next enemy until you solve the next two puzzles.
It was their guide that cleared it up for them. In Hell, there is no logic. There are only the laws of sin and survival. There are the laws of sin, in other words the laws of morality, which brought Sinners here in the first place, and there are the laws of survival which allow Sinners to continue to survive here without the pain getting worse. For the password to make sense would not be befitting of Hell.
It was then that the air around them began to shake, and to vibrate. It was a spiritual pressure so enormous that even regulars of Hell were forced to bow down. Sinners that were in any viewing range were forced to all fours. This wasn't the same as Beelzebub's voice, which simply crushed people. No, it was much more arrogant. It didn't want to crush them. It wanted to force them to bow. It was a pressure that was huge, but it was holding back. It was crushing down on everyone to make them bow. The answer to the first puzzle descended just like that, instantly materializing in front of the three with a huge grin. It was incarnate of their answer.
It looked like a being of dark red energy. It had a body that was of average height, with average muscle mass and average weight, and an average shape of every body part, though noticeably there were no sexual organs. The creature simply looked like it was made of dark red energy. (OOC: Think Naruto's Kyuubi cloak. The texture is like that.) It had no features on the face either. No hair, no eyes, no nose. In fact, there was only a huge, grinning mouth with perfectly straight and white teeth. The way he looked at them, if that could be called looking, was crushing. It was filled with vanity, with contempt, with arrogance. And it was filled with loathing, joy, hatred, and more. All sorts of emotions swam inside of those being seen by this figure.
No, not "all sorts of emotions." All emotions. It was a feeling that was not even imaginable, and it wasn't even possible anywhere but Hell. To feel all possible emotions at once, existing, and some that previously had not been considered. All of it. There was guilt, and there was envy. Laziness, and greed. There was hatred, and there was rage. There was joy, there was agony, there was fear. Everything all at once, though it should be noted that the amount of negative emotions far outweighed the amount of positive ones, and thus it caused their hearts to plunge into an utter despairing shock at that point, though they might also feel awe from the aura of the one before them. Who...was this?
The grinning figure spoke in a loud, booming voice that sounded like millions of voices mixed together and autotuned. "I am the incarnation of that which you answered. In other words, I am human nature. Why I came to you, the answer is simple. It was a request that it be I who give you the next puzzle. In seeing me, you will realize the answer to the question." It suddenly flashed in their minds, all of them, the Universe blazing to existence in a brilliant explosion. Everything was fast forwarding. Galaxies formed, collided, ceased. The Universe expanded, and then it exploded anew, and a new one was formed. This repeated a few times in a few seconds, and then zoomed in on a world.
He shall be made in our image.
And then man formed on that which was considered to the Universe only the sixth day. Millions of years could be called only a day in the face of the Universe, if not less than that. The other five days, days or millions of years, had seen other incarnations on that world. And then, another voice spoke within the flashback.
Why?
A third voice then spoke. There is no reason but everything.
The thing stood before the three, grinning. "Nothing is true." it said. "Everything is permitted." (Yes, I quoted Assassin's Creed.) "SO THEN, YOU SURELY MUST UNDERSTAND NOW. WHAT IS TRUTH?"
It held out its arms with an even wider grin, and suddenly brilliant light erupted into the air as flaming letters materialized, and then it was gone, the incarnation of human nature. Left in its place, there was only the puzzle, which of course they would have to solve. It was going to be easy, certainly, for they had witnessed human nature, and they had witnessed all things encompassed, even sin, therefore in his presence they had witnessed truth.
What is the purpose?

In Hell, there is no logic. There are only the laws of sin and survival. There are the laws of sin, in other words the laws of morality, which brought Sinners here in the first place, and there are the laws of survival which allow Sinners to continue to survive here without the pain getting worse. For the password to make sense would not be befitting of Hell.
Well, that would make the next few puzzles, if any, either incredibly easy or horribly fucking aggravating. With his incredible mental processing power, Benkei knew himself to often overthink matters on occasion. Since he perceived and understood everything so quickly, he tended to overanalyze. He'd need to shut down that part of his brain and go by raw intuition more often if he hoped to survive in Hell.
At any rate, Ranmyaku's vocalization of the answer to that puzzle was convenient. Benkei had been working it over in his head and would have proposed the answer in the same fashion as Jin, but Ranmyaku had saved them all some time. Speaking of whom, the Bount Leader's presence made Benkei a bit more anxious. Given their history, could Jin be trusted not to cross Benkei at a crucial juncture? Well, he had healed Benkei's legs, so he was probably trustworthy as long as they needed each other's help in Hell.
Suddenly, some sort of massive force appeared, causing vibrations and shaking the air. Benkei felt it forcing him to his knees. While the earlier force had outright crushed them, this one seemed to toy with them, forcing its victims to their knees rather than smashing them outright. Hopefully its owner wouldn't make itself known.
Those hopes immediately proved fruitless, a massive red humanoid appearing before the trio. It seemed to consist solely of Reiatsu, lacking genitals, features, and clothing. Its grin chilled Benkei, who struggled to look up at it under the force of its Spiritual Pressure. Its gaze... while it lacked eyes, Benkei felt it regarding them with some strange mix of...
Wait, this was no mix of feelings. Not contempt, not hatred, not disgust. This strange demon's gaze (if it truly was a demon and not something more) seemed to embody all emotions at once. No, it was more like all emotions were derived portions of this strange creature's nature. Benkei felt crushing fear and incredible awe at this creature's presence simultaneously.
"I am the incarnation of that which you answered. In other words, I am human nature. Why I came to you, the answer is simple. It was a request that it be I who give you the next puzzle. In seeing me, you will realize the answer to the question." Human Nature? Perhaps... if there was a Hell, with a Devil embodying absolute evil, then perhaps other creatures existed embodying other absolutes and abstracts? This being seemed to contain all human emotion. It certainly claimed as much.
With that, Human Nature showed the three captives of Hell some sort of vision. Benkei’s mind spun at the implications. Had the universe been created by multiple gods? One god with multiple aspects? The Universe itself? No, with the formation and collapse of multiple universes, it couldn’t be… unless this was the life cycle of the universe, which itself possessed sentience? Was humanity truly special, in possessing all of its power? Were they the children of gods?
"Nothing is true. Everything is permitted. SO THEN, YOU SURELY MUST UNDERSTAND NOW. WHAT IS TRUTH?"[/b]
With that, Human Nature was gone, leaving only six Bible Verses, a cryptic phrase, and a question: What is truth? And, having seen all aspects of humanity in that moment, Benkei understood.
It did help that Human Nature just told them.
Shaking with the magnitude of these revelations, Benkei managed to speak. ”Nothing… nothing is truth. Truth is nothing. This is the answer.” [/size]
The puzzle started to dissolve away as the answer was spoken, simply dispersing into smoke within the air, and vanishing just like that. The answer had been plainly simple. It had been an obvious one, seeing as Human Nature had given it to them. But if they realized that there was no hope to the world, that there was no truth, no meaning, then what other depressing things would they later learn? Hell's intention for all who crossed it was to break them. Everyone that moved through Wandering met similar adventures just like this one here. So then, what was it that would finally, truly break them? What exactly would bring them to their demises in this awful place? They'd injured a demon, and solved another demon's puzzles. But, who else would they meet in this place? Better yet, what else would they meet in this place?
The answer found them quite quickly. It found them sooner than any of them had expected. It wasn't until something seized Jin that Benkei and Ranmyaku would find themselves shocked. Jin was the first of the victims. His body suddenly wrenched violently, and his gag reflex exploded into action. His body was forced into wretched coughing, and something slid out of his throat, across his tongue, and out of his mouth and onto the ground for all to see. Out of Jin's mouth, one large black nail came. Metal, dark as night, and inconceivably large for having safely left Jin's throat, the nail clattered to the ground. Seized by coughing fits, Jin's body continued this, and five more nails clattered onto the ground from his mouth.
And then, for Benkei and Ranmyaku, the same process. Violent wretching, coughing, and seizing forced six nails out of each of their respective mouths, clattering onto the floor. All three would feel it, then, as they coughed those nails out. The burning. It had only been a faint warmth at first, but later transitioned into a heinous burning sensation inside. It was as if all of them had caught fire internally. The pain was enormous, and the voice that seized them all was terrifying. It was not the same demonic spirit that had been advising them. No, rather, it was a new spirit. Something stronger. Rather than one that could talk inside of them only, this one was trying to demonically possess the three of them. And it was painful.
Hello little ones...tell me your names... the voice whispered.
A black mule with glowing red eyes appeared in front of Jin, and slammed its hooves directly into his stomach with great speed and force. On Ranmyaku's side, a gigantic goat of black fur, standing with a humanoid goat body was visible. It had an enormous fist, and used it to punch Ranmyaku dead on in the face. On Benkei's side, a large snake began coiling up his leg, and started to sink its fangs into his throat. It was larger than any python. These three animals were attacking the three who were trapped in Hell. Was this illusion? Was this insanity? Was this an actual attack? Whatever happened, they had to find a way to escape this demonic possession.

Jin watched the two Captains, watching for any sign that one of them might know what was being asked of them. Suddenly, the lizard grabbed his spear and began carving something into the dirt. Jin watched him with cautious eyes to see what he was carving into the ground. The lizard began writing a series of alphabets on top of each other with different offsets. Could it be? Jin had learned about this long ago during his teachings. Caesar and how he died was one of the things he learned about. He did more research himself and found out about the cipher's, but he didn't think that this lizard Shinigami would know anything about it. Afterall, he wasn't human. He probably learned it through the Shinigami. That was Jin's guess anyway. Though, Jin hadn't even thought of the possibility of this puzzle being a cipher. It had been too long ago, which was a sign that he was getting quite old despite his appearance.
Jin continued watching as the reptile scrathed "Who is our prince? His son. VEX=22-5-24" into the ground. Who's son did it mean? Was it talking about Lucifer? Jin tried to rack his brain for anything his parents had read to him in the bible when he was little about a son of Lucifer. As a Catholic, Jin would be the best one to ask about something like this, but it was so long ago and he hadn't paid much attention. He couldn't remember anything about a son of Lucifer. Jin continued watching in silence as the lizardlike Captain continued on. He saw him scratch "Human Nature" into the ground and he became a little confused. Is that the answer to this puzzle? Jin watched as Ranmyaku then applied Caesar's Cipher to the words he had written and obtained something unreadable. He then spoke it aloud, much to Jin's discontent. Then, Jin heard the voice of the demon who cleared it all up for him.
He started to understand a little more why the answer Ranmyaku had given was the way it was. Next thing he knew, the air around them began to shake, and to vibrate. Jin knew what this was. It was a powerful spiritual pressure. He had been crushed by spiritual pressure many a times before he had developed his powers well enough to resist. However, this one was different. Much different. It was much more powerful and suffocating, pushing Jin to all fours. He struggled underneath the pressure, gritting his teeth as he once again felt the pain of the floors of Hell in both his arms and legs now. Then suddenly, it materialized in front of them. Jin tried to lift his head and could see the others doing the same to try to see what it was that had appeared before them. It was a being made of dark red energy from what Jin could glimpse of it and had a humanoid figure. Jin tried to lift his head a little more to see the face, but all he could see on it was a huge grinning mouth. Who or what was this thing?
Jin then felt the emotions wafting off of the creature. Not just one or two emotions, but all of them. It wasn't maliciousness, hatred, joy at their pain, or contempt. It was every emotion at once. Then, the creature spoke. It introduced itself as the incarnation of their answer. Human nature. It then spoke of giving them the next puzzle. Suddenly, images flashed within his mind, showing him the universe being created in a brilliant explosion. Then, everything fastforwarded and galaxies formed, collided, and ceased. The Universe eventually expanded, and then it exploded once again only to form a new one afterwards. The process kept repeating a few times until it stopped and man formed on what Jin had read in the bible to be the sixth day. After that, days, and then months, and then years passed by. When it was all done, the creature spoke again.
"Nothing is true." it said. "Everything is permitted. SO THEN, YOU SURELY MUST UNDERSTAND NOW. WHAT IS TRUTH?"
After it spoke, it disappeared and left them with six bible verses and the question, "What is truth?". Once again, Jin's mind failed to recollect all of the chapters word for word. He couldn't even focus to try to do so. So much had just flooded through his mind and he was still in pain from the floor he was pressed against. It was the other Captain, Benkei, who Jin heard give the answer this time. Nothing... nothing is truth. Truth is nothing. This is the answer." With that, the puzzle disappeared, leaving Jin to wonder if the answer had actually been true. Was there really no truth in this world? Was truth really nothing?
Jin was left to ponder this thought when he suddenly felt an intense pain in his stomach and all over his body as he began to wrench violently. He sat up on his knees and grabbed at his throat as his gag reflex set into action. He began coughing and wretching violently, until he fell back onto the ground and lay on his side while continuing to cough and wretch violently. All of a sudden, his mouth opened wide and something slid up his throat, across his tongue, and finally out of his mouth onto the floor right next to his head. A large black metal nail as dark as night. Jin started coughing and wretching again only to have five more nail clatter onto the ground from his mouth. After it was said and done, he could only lay there in pain and exhausted from the effort. He could hear the same happening to the two Captains even as he lay there. Jin wanted to die in that moment, especially when he started burning inside. It was so unbearable.
Then, he heard another voice within his head asking for his name. G-G-Go...away... The presence of this voice was different from the other advising one. This one felt as though its presence was trying to insert itself into Jin's consciousness. It felt as though the voice itself was what was drilling into Jin in an attempt to take him over. Just what was going on? Jin couldn't think straight enough to figure it all out. Next thing he knew, something slammed down onto his stomach and he cried out. A black mule with glowing red eyes was standing over him as he lay there. Jin didn't know what to do. What was this? He reached up with his hands in a futile attempt to grab the hooves and lift them off. There was no way he could in the condition he was in, but it was an instinctual response. He would realize whether or not it was real when his hands came in contact with the mule's hooves. He wanted the pain to stop. THe active Vok Sheit was taking in spiritual particles, attempting to heal him while he was still taking injuries; however, since he wasn't able to control the intake of the particles to heal, it did nothing to help him in this situation. He couldn't even focus enough to pull off a technique or summon Hitze to drive the beast away. Jin just wanted to die right there.

Well, I'd ask for TP from this thread, but seeing as how I'm not going to be using Ranmyaku for much longer I don't see how it would be worth anything. Jin should at least get some though.
