Well, many people will notice that we've got The Royal Guard on this forum. As such, I've created a guide on how they work. Oh, but please note, firewalling is still intact. Your characters have no idea how it works, only Captains are aware of anything regarding the Zero Division, and even they know very little. The Captain Commander alone knows about the Zero Division. Anyway, here's the guide.
What is The Zero Division?
The Royal Guard (王属特務, ōzokutokumu; translated as Royal Special Task Force in the English dub, literally translated as King Subordinate Secret Service), also known as the Zero Division, is made up of former captains of the Gotei 13 who have been promoted to this level. Only captains of the Gotei 13 know of their existence. They are said to have considerable power and tactical knowledge. The Royal Guard are expert Shinigami that were promoted to protect the Spirit King.
They are also tasked with carrying out impossibly difficult missions that most Captain Level Shinigami can not even accomplish. They go outside of Soul Society, some of them even venturing into Hell it is said. A lot of them actually go to worlds that nobody knows about to investigate, research, and prevent dangers of stronger hollows and other things. Mainly, the Zero Division is to protect the King from foreign danger though.
What is dangerous about the Zero Division is it's powers. While the members all have their Zanpakutou, they are also taught very powerful Kidou that nobody has even heard of, even in the Kidou Corps. This is so that they are prepared for the dangers ahead of them. Those that become a part of the Zero Division become immortal. This is to say, that, anyone that becomes a part of it will live forever as a Shinigami of The Royal Guard, unless K.I.A. (Though it should be noted that those who become "weary" at an "old age" will simply cease and die, as if by a natural means, as if by old age.) It is impossible to defect as an irreversible spell that destroys any defecter is placed in each member by the Spirit King himself. Members of the Zero Division are generally identified by having White Shinigami Robes, and a Black Captain's Haori with the japanese kanji symbol for Zero on the back in white text. They are also given electronic wrist devices that can be used to take pictures, communicate with each other or the base, and capture information through various means.
Who is in the Zero Division?
The Zero Division is made up of over 1000 members. Soul Society has been around for an estimated 35,000 years. As a result, it has drafted many, many members. The vast majority of its members are former Captains and Captain Commanders. However, it has been known that some exceptional Shinigami of lower rank have been accepted in for acts of great heroism and strength. Whenever a Captain of Soul Society leaves his/her position without a reason, they have been pulled into the Zero Division. This means that if a Captain has left without being killed, deemed missing, banished, left on personal leave, executed, or forced to retire from sickness or injury, they have become a part of the Zero Division.
Tite Kubo of course has a different Zero Division, which possesses five members of tremendous strength. And quite frankly his Zero Division is uncool, and is bullshit. SO we're using mine, which I created first anyway. This guide, as you can tell, is over two years old. The Zero Division of this site outdates Tite Kubo's Zero Division.
What is the hierarchy?
The Zero Division has a hierarchy, of course. There are three branches in The Zero Division. The RB [Research-Base] Branch, The MF [Main Force] Branch, and The FE [Final Enforcement] Branch.
The RB Branch - This is a branch specifically forged out of the best researchers, scouts, and assassins of Seireitei's Gotei Thirteen over thousands of years. Usually ops from Squad 2, Squad 4, and Squad 12 join this branch. It's sole purpose is to gather intel through stealth, espionage, and infantry missions. These people are also known to go on Assassination Missions. After gathering intel, they report back and people from the MF Branch are sent to complete the mission. Members from this Branch are also posted at an enormous complex inside of The Spirit King's palace, where they are to direct people out in the field through communications at a central. They keep track of everything going on in the mission, and communicate to give back up. They are also responsible for an immediate teleportation of members that require it. The teleported members will be brought in to be healed, and fitting substitutes will be sent. Team rosters will be adjusted accordingly.
The MF Branch - This Branch is the Main Force of the Zero Division. The vast majority of members are placed here. This is the group that usually goes out into the field on missions to destroy powerful adversaries or to defend against strong foes. This group is the main one for protecting the Spirit King as well. Members here are generally from Squad 3, Squad 5, Squad 6, Squad 7, Squad 8, Squad 9, Squad 10, Squad 11, and Squad 13.
The EF Branch - This Branch is filled with the most powerful members in the entire Zero Division. There are no Shinigami stronger than the ones here. They are rarely deployed, but when they are, it is not something to be trifled with. Mainly, if the MF Branch Members have come across a mission that they cannot complete under any circumstances, an enemy or situation so dire and powerful that they require assistance, this branch will be deployed to finish off the mission. The only Shinigami in this group are former Captain Commanders, which is to say, former Captains of Squad 1.
Team Organization:
People are efficiently assigned into temporary teams based on the mission type, and the quality and efficiency that the people can provide by working with each other, how compatible they are as comrades. And they are always assigned to a Corp Leader. There are a total of 100 Corp Leaders. Each one is given a number, 1-20, and a letter, A-E. When reporting into headquarters through their device, members will give a short status report of only a few words. Longer details are given later. Corp Leaders will report in as "Corp Leader, 1A" as an example. Most members will only report the status of the team, or a group that has branched off from the team, and what they see in terms of enemy status as well. The Corp Leader will make any and all final determinations of status, after about 3 or 4 comrades have also given a status. Generally, regular Zero Division Members, non Corp Leaders, will report in with "Corp 1A. Status Report."
Zero Division Members get 600 extra SP after joining, and this is added to their total.
