Caballero's ill-advised parry had been able to, at the very least, partially deflect Ren's blade. However, that did not mean they were not in danger anymore; far from it, really. Carried by the momentum of the previous swing, the Failure attempted a second attack via a three hundred and sixty degree spin. The blade was bathed in a sort of rusty crimson, leaving such a colored trail. Flashy, but Caballero did not have the time to be amazed by the Pressurized Graviation blade. Instead, they were fully focused on their foe and their battle. Ren's maneuver was unorthodox, and by the Failure's sheer strength, it packed quite a punch. However, it took some time to complete and left him overly exposed. While Caballero was not able to fully capitalize on the opening like a more experienced opponent would have, they were at least able to leverage the situation to get out of a disadvantageous position.
Just in the nick of time, too, because the Failure was not pulling any punches! The tiny Hollow skittered away, narrowly avoiding the Asakusa's blade but not striking at his exposed back. If only they were a little faster! Unfortunately, their speed was yet another one in the myriad areas Caballero would need to diligently work on if they wanted to become one of the strongest members of the Gotei 13.
That left the two of them on neutral grounds once again, except for one core detail. Caballero's style used simple attacks that did not require the user to spend that much energy. On the other hand, Ren's swings of his humongous sword involved a far greater deal of movement. Flashy and strong as they were, they took a toll on the user: the fighter appeared to be winded, as he was panting for breath. Although Caballero could feel the strain of battle through their body, they were far from out of stamina. This could be the chance for the little Hollow to finally wrap up their friendly bout with a final attack. Fooling around with the clash before had been awesome, and great fun, but a true swordsman would not shame their opponent by not fighting to win.
Not giving their opponent any leeway so that he could not recover, Caballero quickly headed toward Ren for a direct attack. The tiny being sought to overtake a possible defensive maneuver by faking out a jumping attack. Instead of leaping onto the air once they were close enough to Ren, Caballero would let one of their steps carry them just a little bit higher without impeding their run. It would be a sudden change in pace that the little Hollow hoped would trigger their rival to cover the higher part of his body, when in reality Caballero was aiming to take Ren's left leg: while footwork was key for any combat situation, someone could be misdirected into paying closer attention to other parts of their body by simulating a threat to them. With some luck, Ren might just fall for it. If he did, Caballero would swing their tiny blade in an attempt at nicking the Failure's ankle. On a real fight would have translated to the Hollow trying to cleave through to greatly reduce the foe's movement. During their first battle in the Human World, even a strong Hollow had been thanks to Akira restricting its movements, something Caballero seemed to have taken to heart.
It seemed that the Hollow's style was slowly getting more and more developed, with rather instinctive actions that got influenced by all the training they'd done so far and the teachings they had received. The little knight was far from a stellar swordsman; in fact, they were average as they came. However, with Caballero's capacity for learning and their apparent taste for swords, that might just change soon enough, as long as they continued to grow.
