Alacrán had been through so much in the past few months, having sought out and faced so many opponents. He was a little surprised by how many opponents he’d managed to face but even more so surprised by how much of a difference in strength they all had and especially how much stronger they were than him. He hadn’t realized that him being so spiritually weak could be such a hindrance to him.
More than half of the opponents that he’d fought had had this advantage against him and while he’d always managed to find a way to adapt to this, it angered and frustrated him to not be able to simply crush and break their bodies as he pleased or even poison them due to being unable to even pierce his opponents skin. How could he ever hope to see Kouhai dethroned if he couldn’t even hold his own against humans.
So he retreated back to Hueco Mundo, heading towards the dense Menos Forest where he was sure to find a plethora of weaker Hollows and Menos as well as hopefully a few stronger Adjuchas. His thought on this course of action was that if he could take down and consume enough hollows then he could likely reach a new level of strength and maybe even further develop his powers. Hell if he was lucky enough he could even maybe reach his Vasto Lorde evolution although he still hadn’t met any so he was skeptical of if they actually existed.
He hadn’t returned to the forest since his ascension into a Menos Grande but being here again was a bit of an odd experience. He expected it to be filled with Hollows and Menos alike, tearing each other apart, feasting on each other in order to grow in power and reach newer heights of power yet it seemed eerily empty. Perhaps that was the way it should be with the nature of the forest being that those that come here don’t ever leave the same, changed in shape, form and mentality.
However, as quiet as it was, absentmindedly buzzing through the trees of the Menos Forest was probably not the smartest thing to be doing and he was quickly reminded as to why as a massive hand swung out to smash him into one of the said trees like the literal bug that he was. The all too familiar screech of a Gillian told him what it was that was attacking him as it seemed he wasn’t the only thing on the hunt. Truthfully, everything in the Menos Forest was both predator and prey. Which you were just depended on whether you were the victor or the unfortunate sorry loser of your hunt. Alacrán however was resolute in being the predator today.
So when the Gillian swung it’s hand again to try and smash the scorpion further into the tree, he quickly prepared and let loose a Cero, blowing a hole straight through the Menos’ hand which told Alacrán all he needed to know about the strengths and weaknesses of this Gillian. It was likely like him, a Hollow of immense strength but poor spiritual powers if any and while it may be big and fast it was likely still slower than him.
He quickly put that theory to the test when he darted straight for the Menos Grande’s face, crashing into with his bladed limbs which he dug into its mask. Once they were embedded in its flesh, he quickly let loose a Bala at the end of each limb, a strategy he’d never really had the chance to try before as his usual opponents were much too spiritually dense for him.
The results were rather satisfying if he had to be honest with himself as the Gillian’s head exploded into a bloody mess, covering him in its blood and other pieces of its now destroyed mask and head. As the giant Hollows body crumbled to the ground, Alacrán was quick to follow it and began to engorge himself on its carcass. He fed himself as quickly as he could, certain that the noise was sure to have drawn out other hungry predators that lurked in this bleached forest.
Sure enough, not too long afterwards, he began to hear the evertelling screech and screams of Hollows approaching his position. He snarls as he takes to the air, blood and pieces of meat and mask fragments fall from his body as he does, and scans the area as he tries to narrow down where they were all coming from. Then he remembers a rather new skill he’d developed and moves to a nearby tree. Once he landed on a branch he began to focus and concentrate on the vibrations that he could feel through the ground thanks to the roots of the tree. He could feel at least five Hollows of varying sizes and speed making their way towards him.
He was able to track all of them save for one which seemed to be moving at a speed that exceeded what he was capable of. That seemed somewhat troublesome but he wasn’t too concerned yet. He’d have to wait for them to appear before he could truly judge their strengths. What he found odd however was the fact that they all seemed to be keeping in pace with each other, the four slower ones trailing behind the faster one.It seemed he hadn’t only drawn the attention of a few hungry Hollows but a pack of them.
He was so focused on them that he barely noticed the quick rapid movement beneath the surface of the sands that was approaching from behind him. It wasn’t approaching as quickly as the pack was but its size at least three times his own as he could get a clear picture of its shape, a giant lizard-like Hollow that was using its claws to “swim” through the ground. Alacran wasn’t sure which of the two he should be more concerned with but he wasn’t going to sit there and wait for them to appear.
He quickly begins charging a Cero and setting it where he sat on the branch. He then hops to another branch and places another Cero, then leaps to another branch and another, repeating this process until there are at least five Cero hovering in the branches and double that in Bala hidden in the ground. With his trap set, he land in on the remains of the Gillian and waited for the Hollows to arrive.
As expected, the pack of Hollows arrived first and Alacran thought he was experiencing deja vu as lion-esque Hollows entered the small, white glade. He recalls in his earlier days as a Hollow when he’d teamed up with a certain Shinigami that he’d faced a lion-esque hollow that led a group of hyena-like hollows as well. Alacran wondered for a moment if Hollows could be related or what made Hollows of similar appearance spawn.
However, these thoughts are banished from his mind as one of them speaks up, the one he had tracked as being the fastest of the group. He assumes that didn’t mean it was the leader of this group but actually used as a scout, which was only further cemented as it spoke up, “You there. What do you think you’re doing, hunting in the Empress’ lands?” Alacran gives them an odd look before he scoffs, “Empress? Ha, well sorry yer high’ess, but ya’ll hafta fergive me fer nah giving uh damn whether these are yer lands or not. Aye’ll do as aye please. ”
The one that had spoken up seemed visibly agitated by these words as well as a few others but the reaction that interested him the most came from one of the smaller lions who looked rather amused by his statement as well the way it got the others stirred up. The smaller lion, presumably their Empress, stepped forward and once she did, the others began to quiet and settle down.
When she spoke, it was with the tone of one who was accustomed to holding a certain amount of authority over others and having them respond and obey said authority. Alacran wasn’t a fan of such types so he immediately didn’t care for whatever it had to say but he allowed it to speak anyways, keeping his senses tuned to the reptilian Hollow that was slowly making its way towards them, “I respect your independency scorpion, it is something all hollows strive for while trying to survive these unforgiving lands however your transgression into my territory cannot be ignored. At least, not without a bit of repentance. I am a reasonable ruler after all. ”
This drew Alacran’s attention as he could hear the condescending tone in her voice. It lit a heat of furious anger inside him as he stared at the group of Hollows. His mandibles began to slowly click together which caused the lion Hollows to shift uneasily a little but their guards weren’t raised quickly enough as he then suddenly jumps through an Ulcera and stabs through one of the lions, causing them to let out a surprised roar of pain.
Before it could even try to do anything else, he tears his bladed limb out from its body as he then releases one of the hidden Bala to fire on the Hollow as it reeled back in pain from the massive open wound that Alacran had left it with. That would be the last of its worries as the Bala collided with its head and caused it to disappear in a messy explosion. This was more of a surprise for Alacran than it was for the Hollow lions as he didn’t expect it to be that weak.
However he didn’t wait for them to regain their wits as he then rushed towards two others that were standing near each other and skewered one before lifting it up and tossing it into the air where a Cero went off and burned it in a flash of red. He wasn’t sure if it was quite dead yet but he would have to make sure later as he then stabbed the other lion with his tail, injecting his venom into it.
The effects were almost immediate as the lion began to lose strength which Alacran capitalized on as he slammed his blade into it with the blunt side and sent it flying into a tree. It was about this time that the last Hollow started to properly react as the “Empress” remained where she was and watched all this with growing interest.
Alacran let out a disgruntled sound as the Hollow he’d blasted with a Cero earlier leaped on his back and tried to dig its claws into his armor but was having little success in doing so. For its efforts it was quickly rewarded with the blast of another Cero from the treeline that nearly clipped Alacran himself but it did the job of finishing off the Hollow just as the other two had regathered their strength.
The one he’d stung with his tail was struggling to barely hold itself up as the other remained untouched. Alacran was looking forward to fixing that as he quickly pushed himself into another Ulcera and disappeared from sight before reappearing right between them, stabbing them both with his bladed limbs, injuring the untouched one as it barely dodged out of the way and outright killing the other.
He left its dead body on his blade as he lifted it over his head and threw it at its companion. While it was distracted with trying to dodge the carcass of its comrade, Alacran unleashed two Bala, catching the Hollow in their blast but it was still able to hold out for the time being. Alacran’s mandibles clicked together in a bit of irritation at its tenacity to live but it wouldn’t be staying like that for long as he quickly pushed off the ground with all his strength, dispersing the sand where he’d just been to leave a crater, and sent himself barreling towards it.
Before it could fully dodge, Alacran had already flew past it and drove his blade through its neck in a clean slice that it was still conscious for a moment before it realized what had happened and then collapsed on the ground with its head falling off its shoulders and rolling across the sand, leaving a bloody trail in its path until it was harshly stopped by the “Empress”, who had squashed the head beneath her feet and growled, “I guess you’re quite stronger than I thought but unfortunately now you’ve pissed me off. So I hope you’re ready to meet your end bug, because I’m not as slow as those fools were.”
Before Alacran could even attempt to interrupt her, she had disappeared into an Ulcera at a rather blinding speed. He heard the tell tell sound of the exit opening behind him however as he quickly turned around to try and block her attack he was baffled to find that there was nothing there. His mandibles clicked together in rapid confusion before he was suddenly assaulted from above by a hail of Bala. Alacran let out a screech as he quickly tried to get out of the blast and leapt for cover.
He made it behind a tree and peeked out to see the lioness land on the ground where he’d just been and quickly unleash a Cero in his direction. He cursed underneath his breath as he let one of his planted ones loose to intercept it, causing an explosion with such force that he had to brace himself. He growled as he tried to keep an eye on the Empress but she’d already slipped into another Ulcera and again he heard its sound of emerging next to him which he quickly and instinctively turned to block against once more only to be meet with nothing until he was suddenly blasted from behind by another Cero.
The Cero burnt and charred his armor but still didn’t have quite enough strength to break through the armor or cause him any kind of pain. He grinned as he turned around in time to see the Empress realize her mistake and try to leap away into an Ulcera. He followed after her with his own and saw her in the shadows between, he watched as she had opened a false exit before quickly emerging from the true one and was surprised at the simplicity and ingenuity of such a technique. He’d have to try it on his own at some point but he’d have to do that after this fight.
As he emerged from his Ulcera at the same time that she had, he let loose his remaining Bala and Cero on her, all of them moving too quickly for her to react to. She was burned and scorched from all sides before suddenly finding herself underneath the imposing weight of Alacran and he landed on top of her, driving his blades straight through her body. She died on the spot as he had pierced many organs and had even managed to stake her through the skull.
Alacran was breathing rather heavily now at this point, surprised at the speed and intensity of that fight. He was feeling good about himself for once as he moved to collect the bodies of his feast. However, just as he’d finished gathering his meal, he felt the ground be disturbed by the body of the gillian as the reptilian Hollow had finally emerged, having arrived some time ago and watched the fight. Alacran was slightly annoyed and tired now at this point and wasn’t quite ready for another fight as the adrenaline had already drained from him.
However to his surprise the Hollow didn’t attack at all. It merely just watched him before it spoke in a deep and rumbling voice, “You strong. Kolotl wishes to serve.” Alacran wasn’t quite sure how to take this so he simply nodded. At that the reptilian hollow grinned oddly and then began to gorge itself on the body of the Menos Grande. Alacran watched for a moment to see if he could feel any kind of ill will from it but after determining it had no darker intentions, he returned to his meal and began to feed himself. An odd way to end his hunt but something he was growing used to.{Consumed}x1 Class 5 Hollow
