The day seemed like just a normal day, a lazy one, even, with everything seeming to be calm and quietly moving along in the position of its existence, happy and content with the way things were. From the sun shining high above, which cast bright but gentle rays down upon Soul Society, to the languid clouds floating slowly by in the sea of bright blue that was the sky, to a very subdued but present wind that barely shook the leaves of the trees as it blew by, everything was in a state of peace and quiet. The kind of day that even the most sedulous of workers would feel lulled enough to want to relax under a tree with a straw in their mouth and all worries and cares temporarily forgotten.
That was why when the commotion arose in the 4th Division headquarters, it sounded many degrees louder than it actually was. To an extent, this was to be expected; after all, the Shinigami Academy had just released a new crop of students, and they all did seem primed and eager to show themselves, as well as live up to the expectations of their divisions, and make names for themselves. Granted, a little bit overzealous, but it was better than being lackadaisical and uncaring about their work. But it was curious that it was the 4th Division that was the epicenter of the ruckus, as it was supposed to be a place of healing and rest. Anytime the 4th Division had rowdy occurrences, it was likely because a member of another division was raising a storm, which was not an uncommon occurrence, seeing as the members of the 4th were considered wimps and unable to fight. But anyone who was present to see the little amount of chaos would note that the noise seemed to come from people who seemed eager to get out of 4th Division building.
It seemed an interesting thing had happened. Some rabble rousers had gone into the 4th to roughhouse with one of their own who had been injured in battle. They had been advised against disturbing the patients in the infirmary, but as was expected, they had instead taken to shoving around the 4th Division members. Then things had happened all too quickly. No one really could say what happened, but all they knew was that one moment they were picking on nurses, and the next, their ringleader was out cold on the floor. The rest of the ruffians, who were actually devoid of anything similar to a spine, assumed that a powerful opponent had showed up, and they fled for their lives, and not so quietly either, which was what had been responsible for the noise. Now presently, they told anyone who was willing to listen, that there was very likely a powerful fellow in the 4th, who had one-shot their strongest guy (who was actually a wimp, but in the land of the blind, the one-eyed would be king and all that). To anyone who cared to listen, they would beg the person to go into the 4th Division building, retrieve the body of their fallen comrade, and if possible, bring the offender to justice. Imagine if the 4th Division grew wings as a result of this event!
But anyone who would be brave enough to venture into the 4th would discover the place empty and in silence, with items and equipment strewn around as a result of the activities of the hooligans before their leader was defeated. Everyone else had run away. Except two people. The first was the leader of the ruffians, down and out cold on the floor, crutching at his crotch with both hands, if that could be considered a clue. The second person was an orange-haired Shinigami, hiding under a table, a rather poor place to hide.
