-Basic Information-
Name: Elias Underfisher
Real Age/Age of Appearance: 28/22
Birthday (Month/Day): August 11
Blood Type: AB+
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Appearance-
THEME: BURY ME FACE DOWN
Height/Weight: 5’6” / 165lbs
Physical Description:
Elias is a short, stocky man who is fairly boyish in appearance. His athleticism might be obvious from first glance -- from his broad-set shoulders and powerful musculature to the taper of his waistline, if displayed it would be obvious he was someone who cultivated physical strength. It contrasts somewhat sharply with his almost delicate facial features and his overall warm demeanor: he is not someone who usually bears an intimidating energy.
The first thing someone is likely to notice about Elias - depending on the attire he wears - is the prosthetic leg that extends from his left knee down. He has two that are purpose built for different applications: The first is a runner’s leg made of aircraft grade aluminum and carbon fiber. Bearing a strong resemblance to the letter ‘J’, it’s designed specifically for running and is worn without footwear. The second one is a general purpose prosthetic that allows him to function day to day, a titanium alloy affair that is rather simple in design. When worn with trousers, this prosthetic not only allows him to enjoy a relatively normal life as well as maintaining a normal appearance: capped with a boot it does a good job of passing for the genuine article in casual visual inspection.
As previously mentioned, Elias’ features can be described as ‘boyish’, or youthful, with a deceiving appearance of innocence. His jawline is pronounced, yet slight. His nose is small and slightly upturned. His face is smooth, unblemished and doesn’t grow facial hair well. His lips are thin, and his smile is enthusiastic. His hair is a dirty blond that has been left to get somewhat messy, with bangs capable of falling over his eyes.
His eyes are a deep green, a shade reminiscent of grass after summer rainfall. They’re sharp and active, but the rest of his features shade this in a charming intelligence rather than a dangerous cunning. This is especially true given other aspects of Elias’ persona that he’s carefully manufactured.
Elias is intentionally a person that most feel immediately at ease with. He’s always wearing a warm little smile, his laugh is easy to listen to, he isn’t afraid to shoot a little wink or project his emotions with transparency across his features.
The one thing that hints that perhaps Elias isn’t as harmless as he would have others believe is an oddly triangular scar on his left cheek. It’s small, but deep and defined. If one combed through his hair to look at his scalp on that side of his head they’d find others that were somewhat similar. A game that Elias enjoys playing is changing the story behind the small scar with each retelling. He doesn’t mind being caught in it -- even when called out on it he’d only laugh it off.
He tends to prefer subdued colors in his clothing as opposed to bright, flashy ones. Neutral tones in the grayscale or in earthen colors are his favorites. He tends to dress in ways that hide his musculature, and rather casually. He likes baggy hoodies, big jackets, cargo pants, sweat pants, khakis, and breezy long sleeve shirts. He dresses this way specifically to appear more disarming.
Elias evidently wasn’t always so determined to appear non-threatening however. If he were to ever wear a short sleeve shirt, or a tank top in public, one would see a myriad of tattoos that span up his left arm, over the top of his chest and his back. The ink along his arm is a series of banded patterns that make it up to his shoulder - the first starting at his wrist being four strands of barbed wire, followed by a print-like pattern of different firearms inked as solid black silhouettes. At his elbow it becomes a pattern of celtic knots.
Across his back is the latin phrase “DE OPPRESSO LIBER” spanning from shoulder blade to shoulder blade in an arc. At his collarbones perch a pair of ravens facing outward towards his shoulders. Over his heart is inked a scored bullseye target with the center being worth ‘10’ and the rings outwards scoring from 9 to 5 points.
In contrast to his every day appearance, Elias dresses quite menacingly when expecting trouble. He garbs himself head-to-toe in black combat fatigues with a plate carrier, a rubberized tactical poncho, a balaclava and kevlar knuckled gloves. He’s careful not to unwittingly expose any part of his body.

-Personality-
Dislikes:
Shinigami. As a rule Elias distrusts shinigami because he is acutely aware that despite their charge with safeguarding the natural order of the world they are not overly concerned with the general welfare of humans. He believes it would be a mistake to truly count them as allies to humanity for this reason.
Hollows. Elias dislikes hollows for the same reasons any other human might. He isn’t afraid of being a hollow’s prey item -- his powers give him a near perfect option for retreat from any fight he isn’t capable of winning. He dislikes them because they prey upon the innocent and are typically merciless predators to his kind.
Quincy. Elias dislikes quincy because he believes it to be a foolish mistake to disregard the importance of the soul cycle. Even if he believes that shinigami cannot be trusted he cannot discount the importance of the role they play in the natural order of things.
Bounts. Elias typically dislikes bounts as well. Most of them are humans who have gained power over life and death, and chose to use those powers exclusively for personal gain and longevity of life. They prey on humans the same way that hollows do, only they made a choice to do so.
Carelessness. To Elias every risk taken must be a calculated one. A careless person simply isn’t someone who can be relied upon. He isn’t likely to maintain a close relationship with anyone who puts action before thought, simply because they’re a liability.
Pretentiousness. Elias does not like people who attempt to claim some great importance. Someone of great power should be using that power to uplift others, not to wear the airs of royalty. Needless to say, a high station does not impress him.
Weakness of Character. Elias really finds it hard to empathize with people who are lacking in spine. He can completely understand when circumstance has ground someone down to nothing, but such people have generally exhausted all reasonable options available to them. A lack of trying to improve one’s situation is generally unacceptable to him.
Harming Innocents. Elias can’t stomach war crimes. Especially when inflicted upon women and children.
Idleness. There’s nothing more Elias hates than waiting around, regardless of the purpose behind doing so. He recognizes that sometimes inaction is an important strategic option, but it doesn’t mean he has to like it.
Killjoys. Elias enjoys what he does. He thinks everyone should be doing something that stokes their passion, and that wearing happiness on your sleeve is an ideal state. He’d rather not interact with people that try to rain on his parade.
Likes:
A well-earned victory. Elias loves the feeling of winning, especially when a meticulous plan comes together just as it should. He loves striving for it too, when the going gets rough it energizes him to dig in and pull the best out of himself and those around him.
Camaraderie. Elias enjoys sharing a common purpose with others, and is an unambiguously social animal.
Carousing. Spending your off-time boozing, partying, and fighting is completely normal to Elias. A good soldier, he believes, will naturally enjoy these things. A soldier is a creature that craves adrenaline and chaos. He is no different.
The smell of gunpowder/high explosives after detonation. Elias has fond memories in jungles, in deserts, and other slices of paradise in the third world that this odor evokes.
Sunshine. The best day for vacation is a sunny one.
Rain. The best day for work is a stormy one.
Sweet, sweet hardware. As a master gunsmith himself, Elias enjoys the craftsmanship behind a well designed piece. This extends to some of his other fields of interest too. A pretty explosive device assembled with novel components would earn his appreciation, or an elegant programming solution for isolating traffic light CCTV footage that contains a certain license plate.
Teaching. There’s something very satisfying to Elias about imparting a concept upon someone else and seeing them go from ignorant to competent on a subject before his eyes.
Whiskey. His favorites are either a single malt scotch or a good Irish.
Learning something new. Elias recognizes that although he knows many things that there is an inexhaustible supply of information. Such that he could always learn something new.
Flaws:
Arrogant. There’s only one kind of human that could set out on a mission to displace the Gotei 13 from conducting business in the human world while simultaneously disavowing most potential allies. You have to be somewhat arrogant to believe that you can pull it off, and Elias has that in spades.
Hot-headed. Elias isn’t necessarily quick to bring to anger, but once he’s arrived the chances of him being entirely controlled in his word or action is non-existent. He can take things too far sometimes.
Stubborn. Once he has his mind set on something, Elias will not let it go until he figures out a way to make it reality. ‘Impossible’ is not in his vocabulary.
Sentimental. Elias cannot always be said to look at things from a neutral, objective point of view when it comes to people he has developed a relationship with. This can inhibit him from rooting out people who have betrayed his trust, even if he has the skill set to do so.
Careful to a fault. Despite forming close relationships with those around him, Elias is very deliberate about everything he does when it comes to his work. This includes being stingy and tiring with the amount of information he’s willing to disseminate, and the time table in which he disseminates it. This means that working with Elias, you could be going on an operation tomorrow that he’s been planning and putting the pieces together for months on -- with no notice at all. He might understand that this inconveniences you, but he believes it to be necessary for security concerns. This extends to many things in the way Elias conducts business.
Habits:
Elias tends to steeple his fingers and drum them together when seated and in thought.
He trains physically every day to maintain functional combat fitness.
When he’s relaxing in his personal world he’ll often lay on his back on the beach, making art in the clouds.
He carries his sunglasses with him wherever he goes, even at night he’ll hang them on the front of his shirt for obvious reasons.
Elias rarely goes anywhere unarmed.
Fears:
Elias is somewhat afraid that his life at present is actually a lithium induced fever dream power fantasy. The first time he activated his fullbring he was in a psychiatric care unit. He’d been involuntarily committed after shooting up a street in an attempt to kill a hollow. He is never one hundred percent certain that all of this is real. He could be sitting inside of his room at the care facility drooling on himself. It’s entirely plausible. He acknowledges that the chances of that being true have diminished significantly over time, but he also acknowledges that it’s never a non-zero chance.
Elias is afraid of being ‘useless’, or infirm. His powers awakening were a rescue from the nightmare that was his life after medical retirement.
He fears sometimes that he’ll never have a family of his own. He’s used to living apart from his parents and his sister for long periods of time, but he wonders if he won’t have kids one day, and what a sad old man that’d make him when he’s capable of nothing, and has no one to share the day with.
Goals:
Create a smartphone that works in any realm. This is a goal of Elias’ because the people he wants information on are by definition spiritual entities. Selling a ‘plane-of-existence’ agnostic phone targets them as a consumer base and allows him to collect logistical data on them.
Install a sophisticated signal intelligence network in Karakura. Elias wants to set up a sensor array that will allow him to track the movements of all spiritual beings in Karakura. With Karakura being a spiritual hotspot and his main focus at the moment it’s only natural that he would want to monitor these things.
Recruit from the Rukongai. Elias has a working theory on how he can build the start of a militia -- a force ultimately intended to supplant the Shinigami in living world affairs and thus centralize humanity’s power over their own world. He believes plus rescued from the Rukongai and given gigai to operate in the world of the living would make the perfect soldiers in this fight. He’s eager to test this theory.
Build the funds required to become a legitimate contender in interrealm affairs. This is self explanatory -- you need money to do anything, and Elias has a laundry list of things he wants to do.
Convert various persons throughout the realms into intelligence assets. Elias has big plans, big designs on power if stated obviously. The first stage of those plans is to collect HUMINT assets -- developing profiles on likely persons that may become sources of intelligence for potential future actions. He cares not if the person is willing to become a mole, or if they’re someone he can leverage in some way into doing things that they would not ordinarily do. The meeting and greeting and socialization he is intent on doing serves operational purposes.
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Overall Personality:
Elias can be stated to almost have two personalities. Off of work he is gregarious, outgoing, kind, mischievous and rowdy. On the job he still has time for a bit of humor, but he’s incredibly focused, calculated and analytical. Over a long, successful career in special operations he’s really developed the ability to ‘switch it on and off’, and this benefits him greatly in a number of ways. Primarily it allows him to project an affable and friendly nature to most people he encounters - to a degree that most wouldn’t believe that he’s spent the majority of his adult life in the business of killing people for his country. This makes it much easier to deflect questions and maintain his business being a covert affair.
Elias can overall be said to be an optimist. This isn’t to the point of ridiculousness - after all Elias would never rely on ‘blind hope’ alone, but rather he’s developed a mental resilience in always looking for a silver lining in events and a path forward, no matter what difficulty or hardship he’s experiencing. He makes a pleasant leader to fall under for this reason, and his attitude in combination with his competency helps to put people at ease.
For one to start a good relationship with Elias it generally requires that they share a goal, ambition or passion. Something that connects you with him as a like-mind. Elias is more than happy to share thoughts and time with the people that appreciate the same things as him.
If you want to stay his friend he has to see you regularly. He isn’t the best at prioritizing personal relationships when he has work to do - so hopefully you’re a coworker of some kind, or you’re very good at hounding his attention. Out of sight is unfortunately out of mind for Elias, and it’s likely he doesn’t mean to neglect his personal life, but it’s the consequence of him being so totally absorbed by his work.
The fastest way for Elias to decide you aren’t someone worth associating with though is a demonstration on how you treat your ‘lessers’. Good people make good leaders. Any exception is just someone who hasn’t the station to prove how much abuse they would give the people around them if given the chance.
You can be a respectable enemy to Elias. Such a thing is entirely possible if one’s conduct was good and honorable but the cause they pledged themselves to was one that Elias was fighting. In such a case if he wasn’t able to convert them willingly to his cause he would do his very best to avoid causing them undue harm, to the extent that he wouldn’t attempt to leverage them into an asset by blackmail or coercion. Such an enemy can be expected to be fought. If they were killed, Elias would ensure they didn’t suffer. If they were captured he would ensure they were treated with dignity and respect.
Elias does have some interesting quirks however. As previously stated he isn’t entirely certain if the life he is living is reality or not. Sometimes when he really gets to know a person and likes them, he’ll hint at this almost in a way of trying to confirm to himself with questions like “What number am I thinking of?” or “Tell me about something that I’ve never heard of before.” If someone can tell him what number he’s thinking of then it could be a sign that he may be living in an invented reality. If someone can’t tell him something he didn’t know about before it could be a sign as well, as if he didn’t know about it before he wouldn’t be able to dream it.
Elias is a bit of a romantic, but also still a bit of a party animal. He never did fall into the thought pattern many of his peers in the military did of treating women as venues for temporary pleasures. That being said, he does hook up sometimes. He just does his best to communicate what he wants honestly, and treat romantic partners as people. He just bears a little more dignity with what he does. He does eventually want someone to stay with him in a long-term way, but he hasn’t met the right person yet.

-Powers-
Fighting Style:
Elias is a skilled, trained, capable and above all intelligent combatant. With his experience as a US Special Forces weapons sergeant he is capable of not only operating any firearm with elite proficiency, but analyzing intelligence and applying tactical decision making processes to form germane battle plans for not just himself but an entire company sized element. From his time as a part of the Intelligence Support Activity he’s capable of gathering his own intelligence from a variety of sources and methods to include social engineering, signal intelligence, satellite imagery among others.
With firearms Elias is extensively trained in not only close quarters battle, but long distance precision applications of marksmanship. He’s developed a broad, deep skill set and knowledge base in modern combat and has found success adapting this skill set for use against spiritual combatants.
When fighting man to man, Elias still has formidable experience in utilizing boxing and judo used to great effect in combination with the use of short weapons such as knives or batons. He has somewhat of a literal achilles’ heel in this regard however -- his prosthetic leg proves somewhat cumbersome when having to utilize footwork during fighting, especially on particularly rough or uneven terrain.
Elias prefers above all else to do his homework. Cautious by nature, he will not accept a fight with a total unknown unless the fight is the homework -- in which case he will not be fighting with a focus on creating an opportunity to win but rather to explore enemy capabilities while avoiding the display of as many of his own as possible. This results in a cautious and probing approach in which he is unwilling to accept much risk in such fights. Another method he may adopt in doing his research on an opponent is to gather intelligence through social engineering. In this approach he attempts to gather relevant information on his opponent through the people in their circle, taking advantage of those who can be bribed, coerced, or tricked into giving up sensitive information. Depending on the target he may find a signals approach to be appropriate in which he installs a keylogger, a wiretap, or a backdoor rootkit onto a target’s communication and data devices - either through physical access or through access gained to a network. Other non-intrusive methods of signal interception might also be utilized, such as optical listening devices, RF spectrum triangulation, or RFID passive localization.
When you put all of this together even before discussing his powers one realizes that Elias prefers to know as much about his target as possible, to plan extensively, and to attack vulnerabilities in force and by ambush.
Once one takes Elias’ powers into account one realizes that the one thing they excel at is enabling this doctrine.
With his base of operation being completely removed from all previously known planes of existence he can go an indefinite amount of time removed from scrutiny. He can appear suddenly in unlikely places to strike and fade back into the ether. He has ultimate security in the ability to plan and wait for opportunity as long as he needs to. His movements, and thus his overall strategy are concealed from surveillance by others. He can infiltrate an enemy stronghold and create security vulnerabilities where none previously existed.
The worst complicating factor for his enemies is that he is required to do none of this alone, and that his power grows in formidability the more forces and resources he rallies to his cause.
Main Fullbring Appearances:
When dormant Elias’ fullbring takes the appearance of a pair of designer sunglasses given to him by his mother before his first deployment to Afghanistan. When Fullbring level one is activated they transform into a golden skull mask. At level two the mask gleams a shine that shifts between blue and purple iridescently, not unlike the surface of oil.
Even in a level one release, there’s something obviously ‘off’ about Elias’ reiatsu signature, as if it’s fluctuating between the realm he’s currently in and somewhere else.
Main Fullbring Name:
Elias has referred to his power before as his ‘second chance’. This has little to do with what his power does and more to do with what it means to him, and the surrounding circumstances by which he first became spiritually aware. He would find the idea of actually naming his powers a little pretentious and pointless -- they're an extension of him and his soul, they have a name: "Elias Underfisher's Fullbring".
Main Fullbring Level 1 Property:
The first property that Elias gains from his fullbring is that of 'World Manipulation'. The very first time Elias’ fullbring was activated, with it a realm was created within his soul. This inner realm has grown with Elias, and changes to his whim. It has a volume of 1 cubic mile. This world's objects have a durability of his highest spiritual stat, but the world itself cannot be destroyed except by targeting the ‘heart’ of the world - Elias’ soul. This is always contained inside of the realm somewhere but its appearance changes with Elias’ desire. While in his own realm Elias does not have a reiatsu signature, but the heart does and it can always be felt by anyone with 100 ES. If the heart of the realm is destroyed, Elias’ reiatsu count will be immediately drained to 0. Everything and everyone inside his inner realm will be warped out into the last realm that Elias was in that was not his, with him unconscious there. The realm will reform upon Elias regaining his full count of reiatsu and recovering from fatigue.
Elias has a limited omnipotence when it comes to things occurring or being inside of his realm. He can sense everything and anything inside of his realm, but to gain any detail on happenings inside of his realm he is required to focus on it, just as one might actively listen to eavesdrop on a conversation.
As he is the master of his realm he manipulates it, changing it to his whim. He can distort the space of the realm by stretching it, compressing it, warping or folding it at will. This cannot incur damage to those within his realm, nor can it directly affect their body. Objects created as a part of his realm are as real as anything else but cannot leave the realm and continue to exist. Objects taken into his realm can enter and leave normally.
With his fullbring active he is able to shift into this personal realm at a moment’s notice. By paying 50 reiatsu he will shift into this realm, dematerializing in a small fraction of a second, dissolving in a flash of light that leaves black motes floating through the air in his wake. When teleporting into his realm he can appear anywhere in it that he would like. He can use the link he has with his inner world in order to traverse other planes as well by ‘slingshotting’ himself through his inner world. Teleporting from realm ‘A’, to his realm, to realm ‘A’ again by paying for two uses of this property for a total of 100 reiatsu. When doing this the total travel time can vary. When he disappears from Realm A, reappearing can take as long as he would like, or as short as a minimum of half of a second. He can do this in reverse to travel between points of space in his inner world as well. Slingshotting between two realms this way counts as one step tech for per-post limits while linearly shifting between them counts as 1/2.
Anything that has skin-to-skin contact with Elias can be taken with him when he teleports. If a person has skin-to-skin contact there is a clash of highest spiritual stat/character class that determines who is deciding whether the other person is teleporting with Elias or not. The same occurs if Elias has skin-to-skin contact with an object that has skin-to-skin contact with another person.
Elias can also choose to take things with him that he has previously touched, including people. This can only occur if both parties are willing. If someone is physically touching an object or person that Elias wishes to teleport and is not in contact himself with, he cannot teleport them unless the third party is willing to let him do so.
Main Fullbring Level 2 Properties:
The first additional property that 'world manipulation' gets is 'Domination'. Domination allows Elias to manipulate not just the space of his world, but any realm that Elias is currently in. With Domination Elias can pay 25 reiatsu to stretch, compress, warp, or fold space in the plane he is present in by 5 meters. The maximum distortion this can produce in one area is a distortion of 100 meters for 500 reiatsu. This could be used as an example to make the hallway between two people longer by stretching the space between them. It could be used to make the hallway shorter by compressing it. It could be warped so that the once straight hallway now bends. The space between could be folded, forming a rift in space in which the distance on either side of the rift can be crossed merely by passing through it. These distortions of space require upkeep by paying the cost of the distortion every post that they are forced into existence. When the upkeep is no longer paid the original state of the space will rebound back. As in his world this has no effect on living beings and cannot harm them. When Domination is used to manipulate space, the space changes at a speed of 500.
The second additional property is the property of 'Manifestation'. Manifestation allows Elias to retrieve anything or anyone within his realm and teleport them into the plane he is currently in without having to make the typical round trip to retrieve them. This is true as long as he has touched the item or person before, and if they are a person that they would be willing to be summoned. It costs 50 rei for Elias to manifest an item or person from his realm.
The third additional property is 'Invasion'. If Elias has touched a person before he can teleport to them at any time and follow them into whatever realm they are currently in. When he attempts this, if the target does not have an energy sensory of 150 they will not be able to detect the invasion and will not be able to resist it occurring. Elias will teleport into the realm somewhere up to 30 meters away from his target, somewhere where he cannot be directly observed upon appearing. If they have the requisite energy sensory to detect the invasion occurring they may attempt a spiritual OS/character class clash to stop it from happening. They are aware of their success or failure. This can only occur in closed threads with the consent of all parties involved, but can occur spontaneously in open threads.
Secondary Fullbring Appearances:
Elias' Secondary fullbring is his dog tags from his time in the military. When activated the dog tags and the chain that they hang from float upwards against gravity before they flash into a halo of black energy that circles Elias' head.
Secondary Fullbring Properties:
Elias' Secondary fullbring finally weaponizes his world manipulation powers. Its first property is 'Rend'. It allows him to fling black bolts of energy from his hands that travel at 800 speed. These projectiles have a horizon line in which light bends around them, hinting at their true nature. The first thing that they impact will cause a flash of black light and light to warp around the impact to leave behind a perfect sphere of missing matter from the target. These projectiles compress the matter that they impact with into an infinitely small point. The amount of matter removed is determined by how much rei Elias uses to form the projectile, at 1 inch of diameter per 50 rei.
The second property is 'Negation'. Negation allows Elias to form a black energy barrier in front of his hand. Upon hitting this barrier Elias may pay 1.5x the cost of the enemy spiritual OS technique in rei, to completely remove it from existence by drawing it into a fold of space that is infinite in dimension. He may only do this once per post, it does not negate class 0 techniques.
Other Techniques:
Technique Name: Mugon (Silence)
Class: 5 [Mastered]
Technique Type: Other
Usable By: Any Race
Technique Element: None
Technique Description and Effects:
A relatively simple technique, Mugon creates an aura of Reiatsu around a sword's length that allows it to completely negate wind resistance and absorb sound. As long as the technique is active, a sword covered with this technique makes no sound, whether it's being swung, or collides with another object, or even when it's being drawn; coated with this aura, the sword is completely silent at all times, muffling any sound it may make on contact. If mastered, this technique may be applied to other weapons.
How to use technique:
Wrap one's weapon in Reiatsu to completely muffle any sounds it may make.
Technique Drawbacks:
Per-post Reiatsu cost. No other drawbacks.

Technique Name: [Redirection]
Class: 2, 1 [Mastered]
Technique Type: [Other] - Kidou, Quincy Technique, Bount Technique, Human Technique, Hollow Technique, Other
Technique Element: [None] - If any
Technique Description and Effects: [What does your technique do? How strong is it? What is it's range of abilities? List these things below.]
This is a vicious technique used by strong reiatsu beings. This allows the user to grab a hold of reiatsu, cycle the energy through their body, consume it (therefore making it theirs), and then hurl it back. In other words, one can redirect the enemy's reiatsu based attack by catching it and throwing it back either by spin or just catch and throw.
How this works has been stated above. Now, the important thing to recognize is that there are three classes to this technique. The class 3 version can catch reiatsu of any class except class 1+, and redirect it for half cost of the technique. The class 2 version can do the very same, except it layers the user's reiatsu strength on top of the enemy's reiatsu strength for the returned attack. It also uses the full cost. The class 1 version can return any technique regardless of reiatsu strength, and does so with the user's reiatsu strength layered on top of the enemy's. However, it does so for double cost, and does not work on class 0 techniques.
How to use technique: [How do you use this technique? List below.]
Stated above.
Drawback: [What are the disadvantages and drawbacks of your technique? Don't forget that the drawback must be equal in strength to the technique. List everything related to the drawback below.]
This will burn the user. It will burn their arms. It will burn their insides a bit. They will cook a little. This will strain their body and reiatsu. It can only be used once per post. It shuts off release if used 3+ times in a released state.

Reserved?: [No]
Technique Name: Waxing Flood-Tide
Class: 2 [Mastered]
Technique Type: Soul Command
Usable By: Fullbringers
Technique Element: Air, Water
Technique Description and Effects: This technique is as insidious as it is simplistic. Inside a region centered on the user, 300 meters in diameter, air is significantly changed for the duration of 5 posts. Air in this region entertains the notion that as force increases, viscosity shifts toward a more solid state. Any body, physical or spiritual, that exerts force on or displaces air as its moves triggers this technique.
Inside the region, air takes on a distinctly "heavier" feel, as if occupants were wearing heavy blankets, but no more. Unless the Speed of a body in the region exceeds 600, this change imposes no penalties or restrictions on the region's occupants. However, when the Speed of a body inside the region does exceed 600, the air around that body thickens significantly. Projectiles lose flight path control as they struggle to push through the air, and characters burn stamina at double the normal rate. When the Speed of a body exceeds 2000, the air around that body begins to solidify. Projectiles are treated as though they hit a barrier of and were tunneling through sand, and characters suffer damage as though they had hit (or passed through) an equal amount of rocky soil as the distance they tried to cover. The further a character's Speed exceeds 2000, the more severe the injuries for moving become.
How to use technique: The user communicates with the air in a region, insinuating exciting new ideas into its identity until its physics begin to resemble shear thickening non-Newtonian fluids.
Technique Drawbacks: The technique does not distinguish between user, friend or foe. All occupants of the area are equally subject to its tyranny. Additionally, if Speeds are kept to 600 or less, the effects of this technique can effectively be ignored. When this technique is first set up, the air draws the extra energy it needs from the fullbringer's own body, tiring them as if they had performed one extra post of strenuous activities. Characters with the Soul Dominance technique may communicate with the air around them to learn about this change before they move.
Technique Name: [Hanami]
Class: [8] [Mastered]
Technique Type: [Cinematic]
Usable By: [Human World Races]
Technique Element: [World]
Technique Description and Effects: [Hanami is often considered to be a lamppost on the path of enlightenment, meant to grant the spiritual senses that other races take for granted to the mortals of earth. An elegant and simple application of basic spiritual theory to a practical field. While most mortals may lack the spiritual power needed for perception, the earth itself contains a vast supply of that very same power. The Hanami is a method of tuning the world's soul to act as a window for those un-gifted masses, in hopes of teaching them more about the world.
The most basic concepts in the Hanami are Stance (The alignment of the self with the natural flow of spiritual energy), Breath (The drawing in and casting away of spiritual particles), and Flow (The understanding of the world's spiritual presence as currents like those of air and water.). With these, one can redirect the natural flow of spirits without tainting the image with their own power.
Upon activation, Hanami produces a five meter-wide area of glowing blue ribbons that that slowly manifest from whatever surface the user is standing on (stone balcony, pool of water, air, etc) and sway as if in a light breeze for a few moments before dissipating into glittering clouds of deep blue reiatsu. Non-spiritually aware beings can perceive spiritual beings and phenomena within this circle for its duration, though not perfectly. Instead of seeing them as they are, those witnessing through the lense of a Hanami perceive only an outline of the spirit’s form, a simple cutout through which they behold a storm of bluebell flowers by the thousands, all burning with deep blue reiatsu.
It is said that exposure to Hanami can spread enlightenment to any creature with a soul, and there is certainly some truth to that, for those who behold it may spontaneously become spiritually aware in the nights following their glimpse of the bluebells.]
How to use technique: [The user takes a moment to read the flow of the local winds and spiritual energy, takes a relaxed yet ready stance (and pays the stamina cost), and then performs a series of ritualized blocks or parries with their hands (or weapon), followed by a single, decisive strike that redirects the flow of spiritual energy through their surroundings.]
Technique Drawbacks (Limitations, repercussions for use, etc) [This technique has no reiatsu cost, merely requiring a spiritual atmosphere and the stamina used in altering the flow. The only requirement for this technique is an Energy sensory of at least 25.]

History:
Childhood
Elias grew up in Seattle, Washington, born to Marie Hope Underfisher and John Thomas Underfisher. He has a younger sister named Ellie, born when he was two years old. His father supported the family as an independent contractor for handyman services -- everything from electrical to plumbing. His mother was diagnosed with acute osteoporosis when he was only four years old, leaving her unable to work.
His parents struggled to make ends meet financially. They lost their house when Elias was six, forced to move into low income housing in a bad area of Seattle. This would affect Elias in his formative years, with the social climate of children around him shaping him into something of a miscreant juvenile. Elias’ father tried very hard to reign this in, but a constant need to work to support the family meant he wasn’t around nearly enough. Elias’ mother always complained that she couldn’t handle him, and wasn’t able to keep him from running off and getting into trouble.
Elias did exceptionally well in school at first; in elementary school it was very clear that he was intelligent in an uncommon way. By the time he was in middle school however, Elias had sussed out very easily that not caring about academics was the cool thing to do. His burgeoning ego grew easily as he became the oft imitated king of his class.
Adolescence
By the time Elias was a teenager he started getting into fights more and coming home less and less. With him skipping school so often his father tried to make him work with him in his contracting job as a means to keep him out of trouble. This worked for a while.
Elias rebounded into trouble when he went out on cinco de mayo at fifteen years old with his friends, trying to talk patrons of a liquor store into buying them alcohol in the parking lot. It was here that Elias witnessed a young woman being abused at a gasoline pump at the convenience store just adjacent by a biker. There were four of them in the group, and she’d arrived on the back of the guy’s bike. It still didn’t sit right with Elias. He tried to intervene and found himself on the losing end of a fight, learning that his friends weren’t backing him up. One of Elias’ friends was illegally carrying a handgun. He finally stepped up to the plate and shot one of Elias’ assailants, causing a chaotic incident that quickly ensued afterwards.
In the aftermath of the incident Elias was in the intensive care unit for weeks. Police officers came and interrogated him regularly, threatening to bring him up on charges unless he told them who his friends were. They leveraged his laundry list of juvenile charges, saying that this one was big enough to get him tried as an adult. Elias said nothing. When he was finally discharged from the hospital his father had had enough. He sent Elias away to live with his aunt in Georgia, a desperate last attempt to divert him from his current path.
Coming of Age
Elias’ aunt Rebecca Childs was a childless widow who lived in Columbus, Georgia. The transition was a difficult one for both him and Rebecca. Elias because he was leaving everything he knew, including all of his friends behind. Rebecca because Elias was, well, Elias. When he started to settle in and explore a bit more of the town he was in, he sometimes came across groups of soldiers. Most of them were in the process of graduating from training at the nearby army post, Fort Benning and were out celebrating.
These groups of soldiers reminded him of how he used to be with his friends. He saw how tight knit they were, and how they carried themselves. It made him envious, but also hopeful that he could have that in his life again. It was around this time that he finally asked his aunt about her late husband. James Childs was a captain in the special forces, she told him. She showed him what pictures she had. Some were taken with his team during the invasion of Panama, and Kosovo. Others showed them together at dances and military balls.
His aunt’s stories about his uncle James inspired Elias with something he didn’t have for a very long time: a role model. He often wondered about what it would have been like to meet his uncle, and what advice he would have for Elias to live a better life. Elias decided that perhaps he would find those answers by following in his footsteps.
At 17 years old
Elias mailed his parents the document he was given by army recruiters to obtain parental permission for him to enlist in the army before he was an adult. His mother worried for him, but his father John was entirely supportive. He argued that this was the best outcome they could hope for with him to actually make something of his life. So Elias eventually got his wish. In testing it was very clear that Elias qualified to enlist for whatever job he wanted in the military.
What he wanted was to be like uncle James. He signed a contract for special forces candidacy and a short while later was shipped out for one station unit training that would first qualify him to be an infantryman. It was an entirely new world and environment for Elias, one in which he thrived. Leaning into military bearing and acting the part he was expected to, but admittedly continuing a sort of ‘miscreant’ attitude when left alone among his peers - something that he found wasn’t all that uncommon.
He got his wishes during his training at Fort Benning, making many friends among his platoon and enjoying a kind of bond that he hadn’t had for a very long time. When graduation came however, very few of them were destined to follow the same path as him in travelling to Fort Bragg for airborne training. It wasn’t just the discipline that benefited Elias in the army -- it was how much practice he would have at letting go.
Special Forces - year zero
Airborne training isn’t a long affair. It was a mere four weeks for Elias, but an important lesson in willpower and fear. Jumping out of a plane at over a thousand feet in the air is not something that humans are naturally able to do. Nonetheless, just like every man who jumped before him, Elias swallowed his fear and did it.
His graduation from airborne training prepared him more for the selection process for special forces than he could ever know. Each of his experiences in the army thus far helped to shape the raw iron that Elias was, adding a little something here and there, and hardening him into a worthy steel.
When the selection process started Elias was one of 43 candidates. When he was selected, he was one of six that were. It was partially luck on Elias’ part. At the end of the process when he was interviewed in front of a board of several special forces officers he happened to mention his late uncle, James Childs. The board had gotten the general impression that Elias was as of yet too immature to pass, although he was highly intelligent and capable. A single officer bucked the decision, saying he had served with Captain Childs and that immaturity simply wasn’t always a bad thing. His uncle was known for being a jokester, nonchalant, and gave the impression that he took nothing seriously. He also sacrificed his life in Afghanistan by calling in an airstrike on his own position after it had been overrun. He was selected by a 6 to 5 margin.
Elias would go on to the qualification course, a grueling process in which he was expected to learn a foreign language to fluency, learn the operation of every firearm currently in use by world militaries, learn extensive small unit tactics, and by the end of it be able to train and command an allied indigenous force in warfare against a superior enemy -- all within the course of the next year and two months.
Special Forces - year one-four (18-22)
After Elias had successfully completed qualification he was assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group in Fort Carson, Colorado. Part of an operational detachment that specialized in mountainous warfare, he would be given the chance to cross-train with his peers for the next six months before he was deployed to Afghanistan with his team, where they were given the task of training, commanding, and assisting local Peshmerga forces in their fight against Taliban elements.
It was here that Elias would learn his second foreign language, Farsi. He grew more confident in his abilities as a special forces soldier and found great companionship amongst his team and a defined purpose to his life. He saw combat for the first time in this Afghanistan deployment, and to the surprise of no one present, found himself enjoying it.
Under the tutelage of his detachment commander, Cpt. Ronald Allison, Elias was quickly growing into a man that was much more than he was as the 17 year old that he joined as. Perhaps more of a terror overall, but in a way that was highly productive for a soldier to be. For four years, Elias would spend roughly 75% of his time deployed overseas in various combat zones throughout the middle east.
The Intelligence Support Activity (23-26)
At 23 years old, Elias was approached by an individual who said they represented an organization known as the ISA. They found his record of duty thus far compelling, and wanted to extend an invitation to try out for their ranks. Apparently this organization was a step higher in clandestine operations than even the special forces. Elias didn’t see a reason not to at least try out, even if it wasn’t entirely clear what he was trying out for.
The testing managed to be even more grueling than the selection process he’d already been through, and with both a smaller candidate pool and harsher attrition. Before Elias even knew that he had passed he was on a plane to Virginia to further his training with CIA assets. It was here he learned the arts of electronic surveillance, human intelligence gathering, and planning for operations in non-permissive civilian environments.
The main hat the ISA seemed to wear at the time was to identify key taliban leadership through a multitude of intelligence gathering methods, then coordinate with other forces to either arrest or eliminate their target. A new role in a familiar war, Elias for the first time found himself operating mostly alone in country. He missed his old job for the most part, but applied himself as best he could.
He found some success in this role for three years until in Pakistan while attempting to discover the whereabouts of a key leader of a radical cell belonging to the Baluch Liberation Front he was discovered. Before they could move on him he was executing his emergency evacuation procedure in fleeing to the US embassy in Islamabad. He had almost made it across the city when a vehicle carrying an IED crashed into the side of his car and detonated.
Medical Discharge
Elias was lucky to be alive after the attack. Friendly elements recovered him and several trauma surgeries later and a trip back to the US it was expected that he should live - with a caveat. Since the blast he was trapped in a comatose state. In this state Elias had an out of body experience. In actuality his soul was jarred loose from his body when he had clinically died on the operating table early on in the intervening surgeries.
It was weeks before he was able to follow his chain of fate back to his body, awakening for the first time. He would have written the whole thing off as a dream if not for something he’d seen before merging back with his corporeal body. Awakening he found the truth of it, with his left leg missing from the knee down in both reality and in his dreams, there was at least a certain amount of truth to what he’d seen.
He tried explaining this to his attending doctor, but Elias was given the hypothesis that it was his mind’s way of attempting to reconcile with the reality of his traumatic injuries. It was also explained to him that during his time in a coma, a medical board had reviewed his case and discharged him from the military, ending his career with the award of the purple heart.
This was difficult for Elias to swallow. Even missing his leg he would petition for months in an attempt to be allowed to rejoin the service. For all of the connections he had made during his time in the special forces and the ISA, no one could turn anything in his favor.
A Spiritual Reality
Elias ended up using his medical retirement money to get an apartment back in Seattle where he could be close to his parents. In the meantime he’d been seeing things that were... Rather hard to swallow. Since his coma he’d begun to see what one could only describe as ghosts. He kept this fact close to his chest, convinced it was perhaps a symptom of traumatic brain injury from the overpressure of the explosion. He understood that he would be viewed very differently if he admitted to
It would all eventually boil over when he witnessed his first hollow attack. It occured on the street outside of his apartment. Seized by the passion of what he was witnessing Elias did the only thing that seemed appropriate. He grabbed his handgun and hobbled outside to confront a supernatural horror.
Confinement (Now 27)
The trial was messy, but fairly swift. Elias had been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm within city limits. There were plenty of eye witnesses, and responding police to testify against him. The police even made note that he appeared to be talking to himself when they arrived, firearm still in hand. He had no personal explanation for it, and the best plea he and his legal team could enter was momentary insanity. Many character witnesses came out for him from his previous line of work. An expert neurologist validated Elias’ own fears that he could be suffering acute hallucination from the brain trauma that he’d endured surviving a close proximity explosion.
He was involuntarily committed to a psychiatric care facility with no promise of release. Over the next few weeks Elias was dosed with lithium until he could find a way to reasonably dispose of it without the doctors noticing it. Finally after much good behavior and introspection, and Elias slowly admitting to himself that the whole thing hadn’t been real, Elias was allowed to have a box of his old things to decorate his room with.
His favorite pair of sunglasses, a pair that his mother had given to him before his first deployment to Afghanistan, stuck out to him. When he touched them something unexpected happened.
Ultimate Freedom
Elias was suddenly somewhere else. Fallen from his fingers was a golden mask in the visage of a skull. It hit a white sand beach with the ocean meeting the sand in a steady rhythm. Ahead of him the orange glow of a setting sun bathed the sky in a multitude of colors. Behind him was a tropical paradise. He went through the obvious at first, wondering if he was having another episode. He wandered the beach for awhile, several hours really, circumnavigating the island. By his estimate it was around four miles in perimeter, and absolutely absurd that he hadn’t come back to reality yet.
When he started wondering why the sun hadn’t yet disappeared beneath the horizon, it did. Night came with his whim, the sun sinking, the moon rising and the stars whipping to life at the speed of thought. As Elias started to question his sanity more and more, he ran across the golden mask again. He picked it up and just wished that he was home.
And so he was. He found himself standing outside of his mother and father’s apartment, still clothed in a white robe and holding a golden mask in his hand. He knocked on the door, and somehow they answered him in the most believable way possible.
They were shocked at his release from care in one moment and then questioning the veracity of it the next, given his state of dress. And then the mask. In disbelief Elias again wished that he were somewhere else, and in a flash he was back on the beach of the night-cloaked island.
Power Corrupts (27-Present)
With his strange new abilities in tow, Elias did what any man would when given ultimate power. He abused it. The next few months were a whirlwind of living at a breakneck pace, robbing banks, getting drunk, smuggling women into the whitehouse to impress them. Exactly what any man would do.
Eventually this level of ultimate irresponsibility had to end. It just couldn’t capture his attention anymore. He knew that if he had somehow developed these powers that there was a greater reason behind it. This train of thought led him back to a conversation he’d had after confronting what he now knew was a hollow, and the soul reaper that he’d met who had dispatched it.
There were things at play that Elias simply didn’t know enough about. Perhaps he had a new mission, one that was on a much grander plane than he’d ever interacted with before. Months of research and developing his abilities lead him to Japan. Specifically a city called Karakura, which was a hotbed of spiritual activity. It was here that he’d discover the various spiritual factions at play and develop his own mission, his own purpose beyond senseless partying. For the first time in a long time Elias had a job to do.
