"Well. I try. I don't often succeed it seems. But I definitely try." This made the Captain smile a little as Kaen responded to her opinion of him. Sure, this was her first time meeting him, but the Captain had already revealed more damming information about herself than even to her own student, Kimiko. In some ways, it was a little surreal. She knew very little about the Vice Captain of the Seventh Division and despite that, she still felt as though she could confide in him. Only time would tell whether she'd grow to regret the decision, but something deep inside told her that it was the right choice. She needed allies. Others to cover for her. If Soul Society found out, she'd almost certainly be considered a liability. Dangerous enough to execute.
With an understand of this, Celes felt that it would be prudent to collect as much information as she could, starting with Zeich. Allegedly a former officer of Kaen, Celes felt that learning about the Visored would help her understand herself better. As Kaen spoke, Celes listened. Her smile would turn into a bit of a frown as it seemed that she would have little practical information to gain out of this topic. "I'm... not sure. It's not like I've had contact with him since his... well... Since the incident that resulted in a Rukon district being nearly leveled." A short pause filled the air before Kaen continued. "If he's alive, and I'm guessing he is, I haven't heard much. Rumors. The odd snippet of someone that might be him, but no confirmations. If he's still around he's probably lying low to... well... To avoid me as it were. Or the Onmitsukido, this falls under their job as well I guess." As the discussion continued, Celes could tell somewhat that it was a difficult topic for the Vice Captain. His voice declined, becoming more somber. "I don't know the mechanics of being what you and Zeich are. I don't entirely understand it on any level-- it's the sort of thing that Soul Society probably doesn't want me to know. If you want to talk about it, that's fine. And if you don't, that's also fine. I don't need to know everything. I'd just like to know enough to help."
The Captain blinked for a moment, attempting to absorb all she could as Kaen spoke of Zeich. From the sounds of it, the Visored felt alienated. A sentiment that Camila seemed to understand so well. After all, the Rogue Shinigami had made no attempt to contact Celes since she abandoned her in front of Uzaki Enterprises. It was not an easy choice to make, but the more that Celes thought on it... the more that she understood the dynamics of her own experiences with the Inner Hollow, the Captain saw her betrayal as borderline necessity. Each time that her Inner Hollow seeped through the cracks and possessed her body, a strong emotional response had caused it. Unlike her, Camila was extremely temperamental. Not to mention, Celes experienced Camila's Inner Hollow first hand. In some ways, it was a frightening experience. To be face with so strong a foe. It made her uneasy just thinking about it.
Instead, Celes would return her focus to Kaen, listening to the rest of his opinion on Zeich. "From what I know of him though... I imagine Zeich probably feels guilty. He caused a lot of destruction. He probably blames himself. ...It was out of his control though. That's one of the reasons I want to help you. I don't know what triggered it in Zeich but if the same thing happens to you, I want to be able to help so you don't feel the need to bear the responsibility alone." A slight blush touched the Captain's reddened cheeks. She was amazed to say the least. Kaen was risking his career... his very life in helping her. Harboring such sympathy towards a Visored was tantamount to treason. It stood in violation of the ancient laws of Soul Society and yet... Kaen still offered to stand by her. She nodded silently and look up at the sky, tapping her fingers against her knee.
"Well. Consider me honored. I was not expecting such a warm response towards my controversial condition." She'd smile before sighting for a moment. "I can certainly understand that guilt though I have the luxury of not yet having caused Soul Society any undue harm. In truth, I cannot predict what cause his Inner Hollow to rend control of his body from him. In my own experience, it can be several factors, but there is one chief among them for me." She'd point at herself and take a deep breath in. "A strong emotional response. The desire to crush, even kill your enemies is what spurs my Inner Hollow to emerge. Something as simple as anger can lead to a moment of weakness." She'd start tapping her knee once more. "I believe it was the same catalyst that allowed Camila's Inner Hollow to emerge when her and I fought. In truth, I sometimes think that I'm lucky to be alive." She'd chuckle somewhat at the sentiment. It may have sounded overdramatic, but there rang a certain truth in her words. "Other factors, but they are mainly conjecture on my part, is fatigue or grievous wounds. In my own experience, the Inner Hollow is just like any other creature. It desires to live. To thrive. If I were to die, I've no doubt that he'd meet his end as well. That's why I suspect that a grievous wound may encourage a possession as well."
Some of what Celes spoke of was from experience. Others were from bits and pieces of information that she could infer. Yukito never told her the true nature of how he possesses her body. She simply knew why. He did not wish to perish. If Celes' weaknesses got in the way of that singular goal... then he'd do anything in his power to make sure that it wouldn't come to pass. The Captain looked back at Kaen and spoke again in a soft tone. "As for the mechanics of our affliction... I do not know what sick joke that the world has played on me. I do not know why I am cursed with this other soul inhabiting my body. I only know one thing... He is cruel. Vicious. And has no problem threatening my partner to get to me..." As Celes spoke of it further, Kaen would likely be able to notice that the Captain gripped the hilt of her blade protectively. "How ironic. To be the Captain of the Tenth. To be in charge of the protection of Soul Society and at the same time be a potential liability to that safety. The very thought haunts me." As her voice grew more melancholy, she'd suddenly stop, the thought of betraying the sacred duty that she was charged with hurting too much.
As it came to a close, Celes eased up her grip, letting her hand clumsily fall to her side. She sighed briefly and shook her head. "I can tell that you have the best intentions for me. That you wish to help others in whatever way you can. Our interaction right now, however brief, has made that clear to me. I've not doubt that you will keep this secret safe, hopefully until the day that we will no longer be executed for harboring such curses. However, I have one request to make." Her voice would grow melancholy for a moment as she spoke further. "Soul Society has given me a home. A family. I lost those things in life when I was very young. I owe a lot to them and its because of this that I ask you..." She'd pause for a moment, collecting her thoughts before continuing. "If I am at the mercy of my Inner Hollow. If he is to commit untold destruction, I hope that you'd find the will to put the good of Soul Society before me." Her eyes carried a sorrow with it as her request would become increasingly clear. "If you have the chance while I am influenced by him... I beg you...
