Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. A quaint little city with quite a fair bit of history to itself, it is a direct cultural pathway to the natural monument built upon lava flows that have long gone cold, and so, for many who remain within Japan, it is often seen as one of the greatest touristic attractions of the country. Although it is dwarfed by its modern capital brethren, Tokyo, it sports a good number of citizens which have all decided to remain near the mountain, which has led it to develop an economy on its own. Artisans create great textiles and tapestry to be sold all around the country and the rest of the world, and industries of high technology which cannot settle in Tokyo instead congregate here. All in all, it is truly the capital of Yamanashi Prefecture, its center of commerce and considering its importance to the entirety of Japan, perhaps its pride and joy too. Without it, one would be hard pressed to imagine where this district of the country would be today.
Once, a long time ago when she was an Adjuchas, the beast known as Sonadora was almost compelled to visit this city. Having found comfort in her ability to sway the Japanese masses with minimal effort, there were times in which she had almost convinced herself to settle for a moment and admire the views given to her by this country. She thought then that it would have been a nice change from the brick and concrete that was starting to invade the metropolis. However, she has never had the chance to do so. Her plan - her illustrious Cambio - required perpetual progress, eternal effort, and unbending focus, and so she never was capable of finding the time to willingly reach this place. The matter was simple. Back then, she found the idea of simply staring at a mountain or at the country from above to be a waste of her time. Considering this and where she is now in her life... perhaps that thought could not have been any more ironic.
A few days have passed since her strategy of consuming Humans in Tokyo without the attention of the Shinigami was laid to ruin by the vulture known as Vagabond. To say that her pride was damaged by all that's happened was nothing short of an understatement. First, the vulture had stolen much of her prey and left her almost empty-handed. Second, it unleashed reiatsu in Tokyo, causing the Shinigami to be aware of Hollow activity in the area. And most importantly, third, her skirmish with that Shinigami patrol had proven her existence to them. The preparations she had made solely to assure that she would benefit from a safe and steady return to what she was prior to her meeting with that damned Belair have now been compromised. It was an infuriating prospect, something that disappointed her immensely. Fortunately for her, she had already made a number of alternate strategies to take in response to such emergencies, and so it was why she was today fleeing Tokyo for Fujiyoshida.
The emergency plan in question was, in hindsight, a simple one. In order to reclaim her hunting and testing grounds in Tokyo, she needed a diversion, something that would force the Shinigami to look elsewhere while she returns to the area. Being somewhat aware of their antics, she was now aware that they must have increased their numbers in Tokyo to find her and eliminate her, and so, by creating a diversion, it would allow her to move those forces away at least temporarily. Of course, she could not create a diversion in Tokyo itself, as it would only increase her risks of getting caught by the reapers in black. No, she needed to go further away. Knowing this, the City at the Foot of Mount Fuji was thus one of the best places for her to begin her emergency plan. The distance between it and Tokyo was fair, which would cause Shinigami that she is at more than one place at a time, and the shockingly-quick Human vehicle known as "bullet train" was also nearby. Theoretically, it was perfect. Practically, however... it might be more difficult.
The time Sonadora has spent scheming this emergency plan has left her famished. She was hungry. So hungry. Usually, she can fight the pain for as long as she needs to, but the fact that Vagabond has made sure to completely sever the amount of Souls she was supposed to consume that day has prevented her from assuring a full stomach for a while. Worse yet, her trip to Fujiyoshida was made difficult for her bother of attracting the Shinigami's attention by heading into Hueco Mundo, which prompted her to use the so-called bullet train so as to go there as fast as she possibly could without being spotted. Getting onto that vehicle and remaining onto it for as long as she possibly could without downright consuming everyone on-board was nothing short of an exceptional challenge. Yet, she held on. Even as a full class of little children went onto the train for some sort of summer camp activity that she could barely give an ounce of care about, she held on and on.
By the time she was out of the train, her body was shaking as she pushed herself forward. She needed to go forward just a bit more. Just a bit more. She had seen a billboard showcasing a mall that had finished constructing nearby, a large place where she could eat many people at once. Although this hunger disgusted her and the actions she is about to commit will only disgust her more, it is the only thing she can do while she is this hungry. The Shinigami will most likely arrive soon after her diversion will begin, and by then, she will have to plan her escape route as rationally as she possibly could. I must not falter. Not now. Not ever. For the glory of Cambio, I must hold on, she told herself as she moved forward, almost dragging herself against the very afternoon air above Fujiyoshida. Coarse hisses and growls would be heard from the fog surrounding her body, bestial gargles of a beast barely able to keep herself under control. I must hold on... to rid myself of this accursed vessel and eventually become... great once more.
Eventually, she finally reached the roof of the mall. It was a large building, a brand new edifice constructed with the intention of further modernizing the little city, and so it was very easy to bring herself onto the roof. Once she did, the Hollow squirmed and fell onto her knees, shaking as the hunger continued to eat at her insides. "Ngh... Argh..." she muttered quietly in the burning pain, the purple beams in the fog wide open in shock and fury. The burning... She did not understand it at that moment, but it almost seemed familiar to her. It reminded her of a long, long time ago, a time that she had believed to have completely left behind. Through the fog that was in her very own mind, she stood still in a pillar of flame amidst a crowd on onlookers. Through the fog, she saw the onlookers shout in unison and anger as her flesh was consumed by the fire. It caused her to press her sharp hands around her head and hiss, gnarl and gargle in agony.
And then, as she raised her head in the pain, she saw three janitors appear on the roof from a door that led into the mall below. Three employees working their shift.
Three men living their day.
Three Humans.
Three Souls.
Souls.
MEAT.
FOOD.
A powerful, strident roar shook the area plenty, and then, finally, the diversion began.
