It was a dark gloomy day, with the sun above covered by angry clouds threatening to erupt in turbulent rain at any moment. And judging from the small raindrops that were beginning to fall from the sky, it wouldn’t be much longer until they did so. Assuming he didn’t want to get soaked, Shawn would only have one pathway to take, the doorway towards the lighthouse in front of him. It was a large one compared to him, or a normal sized one as far as lighthouses went. Their size had to be this large, in order for ships to locate them in stormy weather such as the one currently raging on outside. But that was where the questioning began, for this lighthouse led nowhere. Shawn was in the middle of the ocean, with no nearby land in sight. Why would a ship want to land here in the first place?
The door to the lighthouse would be locked, but there would be a variety of ways to get in. Shawn was resourceful, surely a mere lock wouldn’t be able to stop a Shinigami? If he craned his neck upwards, he would also notice a window a little ways up the steps to his right, providing him another way in if he chose to take that avenue. Either way the choice was his. Judging from his senses, there was no one inside to stop him no matter what choice he decided to make.
Once inside, he would notice the surrounding area would be covered in darkness and dust. The place hadn’t been touched in months. Yet if he chose to flick on the light switch, he would notice that the lights would flicker on. Curious. How could this place have electricity if no one was here? As Shawn moved about, the storm outside the lighthouse would continue to grow worse with lightning and thunder flashing and booming outside the window, shaking the door and rattling the hinges. Luckily he made it inside in time.
The ground floor near the front door wouldn’t have much for Shawn, just various furniture and useless knick knacks. Nothing concrete for him to go on. If he chose to ascend to the top of the lighthouse, he would see nothing but ocean for miles, with waves splashing up and down against each other. It would be an amazing view to see, but that was it. That only left one more place to explore, downwards.
Yet when Shawn went back downstairs, he would notice something odd. There was no basement. Or at least nothing that resembled one in this lighthouse. Did this lighthouse not have one? It’d be odd if it didn’t, seeing as how all of them were usually made with one. But if that were the case, why could he not find the door? Or latch, or something resembling one? As the wind howled louder outside, Shawn would be left standing in the middle of the room. The only clue he had to go on was the fact that somehow the electricity was running in a place that was otherwise abandoned. He was missing a piece of the puzzle. The question was, what exactly was he missing?
