World 0 is home to the only safe areas in Zanjutsu Online. They take the form of a Town containing four key locations and various locked houses for when Player Housing is released in a later update. The first key location is the Temple, where all new characters spawn, all defeated characters return to, and where Prestiging takes place. Few NPCs are located in the Temple, as there really isn't anything for them to facilitate here. There are the newbie welcoming NPCs, priestesses clothed in modest flowing white robes. There are enough spread throughout the entrances to assist all the newest players in finding their Menu shortcuts without too much of a bottleneck.
When a new player logs in for the first time, after going through character creation where much is laid out for them in terms of abilities they can choose, they need only get within a close range of one of the priestesses to be entered into the opening telepathic communication from the NPC. The "tutorial" of sorts consists of the mental instructions as to what hand gestures will reach the menu for logging out, friend maintenance and messaging, as well as News and Patch logs. The priestess also explains how to perform a Skill or Spell based on the setup of the character. One needs only recall the name of the skill and call it out while entering the technique's stance. Spells require either a Staff or one to pinch their ring finger to their thumb. Skills require the weapon to be gripped, raised, and moved in the manner necessary to activate the technique. Special Skills and Spells require special menu navigation when applicable.
Out of the Temple is the Town of Respite proper. The plaza where most everything occurs is large enough to hold many hundreds of players at a time. Players can gather, meet new people, and form parties here. At the center of the plaza is a towering fountain of crystal clear water. To the north of the plaza, opposite the Temple, is the Smithy. The Axe of Ages. Containing the only really safe location for Players to craft items, weapons, and armor when the Smithing skill will be released in a later update, it’s also a place to buy pre-made weapons by the owner of the shop, Mae. Mae is a short, thin woman with muscles of steel. She idly plays with hammers like they weighed as much as a toothpick, and she can forge the best of items given the raw materials to work with. Most of her work is Custom, brought to her by Players that have collected rare ingredients from enemies, particularly the rare Metal Slimes of World 1 which are her favorite parts to work with.
Custom items from Mae can be requested using the following template:
Item Shape (Sword, Dagger, Axe, etc.):
Item Power:
Item Special Abilities:
Item Resource Cost:
Item Gold Cost:
Fill in the first three sections of the template (Shape, Power, Special Abilities) and Mae will fill in the last two sections (Resource cost, Gold Cost)
To the west of the plaza is the Herbarium. The Golden Thumb is a quiet greenhouse where a wizened man works tirelessly to provide adventurers with the best possible potion ingredients. His name is Allspah, The One Who Grows, and he takes his job very seriously. His common herbs are in infinite supply, grown fast enough by his magic to satisfy any adventurer that may come in. Rarer specimens can be procured here for a larger fee when the Alchemy skill is released in a later update. Some herbs, though, require special resources to grow and Allspah, The One Who Grows is always willing to buy them from adventurers. The most common resource he needs is Slime Jelly, a good fertilizer and one that he’s willing to part 20 gold per bottle for.
Last but not least, to the east of the plaza is the Tavern. The Tavern is run by Frank. Frank is not one for names, or words really, so he just named his Inn “The Tavern” and left it at that. The Tavern is a place for getting together with friends, finding new party members, and just plain resting. In a later update, chefs will find their home base here as there is a fully stocked kitchen as well as plenty of equipment for the preparation of food.
