Heading towards the training grounds of Squad Five, Wynne attempted to walk normally, albeit with a pep in her step. This was a dream come true. Her plan for today was for Kido training with the Captain of the Kido Development Squad. Something she could hardly believe she got. She wasn’t sure if it was because of her skill in Kido, or if it was thanks to her family connections. Either way she wasn’t complaining. She’d use the Kuchiki name to her advantage if it meant improving her knowledge about Kido. She’d do it with no hesitation.
It only took her a few minutes of walking, but she arrived at the designated location without problem. Sure she had to ask around for where to go, but that was to be expected. She‘d never been here before, although looking back at it, most barracks seemed to have the same layout. If she memorized one, did that mean she memorized all of them? She had only been to two barracks before this one, so she still had a little bit more to go in order to see how good her hypothesis was.
Looking around the field for the captain, Wynne wondered what they would get up to for today. Sure she knew it was training, but she didn’t know what type. Was it just tips and tricks for Kido, or would they delve into something deeper? Something like creating her own Kido? She doubted she was ready for such a thing, but she couldn’t help but hope. Imagine! Crafting her own Kido and showing it off to others. That would be quite the exciting ordeal!

While normally Wycliff would be more than happy to train someone in the art of kido, the very fact that this person used their noble status to force him to accept this made him extremely upset. Or that would have been the case if the letter was ever opened. If there was one thing that was true about Wycliff, it was that he hated doing paperwork, so when a letter having the Kuchiki name attached to it came across his desk Wycliff straight up ignored it. Who knows how long it had been sitting on his desk, however Wycliff never even bother touching it.
Even though it was the early morning for him he had already tired of doing paperwork, after all he had done two whole reports he deserved a break, and a break is what he was going to take. Without giving the rest of his squad a reason he told them all to get out of the training field. He had a plan for what he was going to do. There was a particular tree in the training fields that existed, for no other reason than to add a bit of greenery to the training field. This single tree had lush leaves, leaving the ground under it covered in shade. It was the perfect place to take a nap, and that was what Wycliff was going to do.
So that’s were the captain would be found, his arms crossed behind his head as he laid on the ground in the shade. Wycliff was wearing his captain’s hiori and a normal shingami uniform, his eyes had his signature black shades on. For Wycliff there was no telling how long he had been sleeping for, after all it wasn’t as if he was actually expecting someone. Wynne would find him out cold sleeping under the tree without a care in the world and a silly smile across his resting face.

Staring around the empty field, Wynne wondered where the captain was. Judging from what she could see, which was a whole lot of nothing, he seemed to be absent. Unless this was some sort of test? She had to find him first to prove she was worthy to train? It sounded weird, but shinigami were weird. Especially the more powerful ones. The more power they had, the stranger they got. At least that was what people said in the academy.
Beginning her examination of the field, Wynne began to look for clues. There were some footprints in the dirt, but they were leading out of the field, not in. So it couldn’t be that. Unless the captain chose to leave? But that didn't really make any sense. There were no notes on the ground or anything suspicious, so maybe the clues were further out. Maybe in the distant trees?
Heading towards the expanse of trees in the background, she continued her search until she found what she assumed was the captain. Or someone dressing as one. She highly doubted that was the case though since she was sure masquerading as a captain gave you a pretty harsh punishment. Someone at her academy had done it and she hadn’t heard from him since. So either he got kicked out or something more sinister happened. Either way, she was sure she had found the person she was looking for.
Staring at the smiling man, Wynne wondered what she should do. He seemed to be asleep, so it’d be quite rude to wake him. She also didn’t want to wait for him to wake up, as she had no idea how long that would take. Plus she wanted to start learning Kido! Not sit around and enjoy the scenery. Some rudeness had to be excused right? She was expected after all.
“Excuse me? I’m here for our Kido training session captain!”
Raising her voice towards the end, Wynne hoped that was enough to wake him. She wasn’t sure if he was a heavy sleeper or not. If he was, she wasn’t sure what to do. If she had no regard for consequences and was mad in the head, she could drop kick him until he awakened. Seeing as how she wanted to remain a shinigami, she chose to not do such a thing. Even if the idea seemed quite exciting.
Wycliff was blissfully asleep, having a wonderous dream about swimming in the ocean. The smell of the salt air filled his nose, the feeling of the cool water was refreshing on his skin contrasting the warmth coming from the bright sun high in the sky. All of this was a dream, a dream about the perfect day at the beach, a day that had alluded Wycliff no matter how hard he had tried to achieve it. It was only in this dream that he had been able to even try and enjoy the perfect beach day. Nothing was going to ruin this as unlike the real world this was a dream so he was in total control.
If he couldn’t have a perfect beach day in real life he would have it in his dream. Absolutely nothing was going stop this….. Well that was till he heard the shrill of a loud voice screaming at him saying something about training. Lazily Wycliff’s eyes opened up to the bright sun being blocked partially by the leaves of the tree and partially by a shingami looking over him. It would be a moment before Wycliff would actually properly wake up and understand what the situation was, yet in the time in between that understanding and not Wynne would see Wycliff with a confused and dazed look hidden by sunglasses starting back at the young Shingami.
As the words echoed back and forth in Wycliff’s head he started to piece together what the young shingami had said and why they were standing there interrupting his totally hard earned nap. Sitting up and leaning against the back of the tree Wycliff yawned as he tried to mutter out a sentence. Given that the yawn muttered his words too much he said his question again as he scratched the back of his head with a hand. “So who are ya?” Wycliff wasn’t expecting any sort of shingami here for training, and while normally he would be all for training someone, he did have a meeting at the end of the day that he really couldn’t avoid and he wanted to save as much of his focus as he could for that.

“Wynne Kuchiki.” Watching the captain slowly wake up, the small shinigami wondered if she made a mistake. At first she had been excited, but the longer she conversed with the captain, the more her energy drained from her. Who even slept in the middle of the day? And out in the field no less. Especially someone of his rank. She’d have thought someone of his position would be busier than this, but perhaps not. Or she wasn’t seeing the whole side of things. She probably shouldn’t be so quick to judge, but she couldn’t help it.
“You should have received a letter from my family? A few days ago, I think.” She wasn’t sure of the specifics, but that sounded right to her. Her mother had just told her she had secured more training for her and where to go and who to see and then she left. As she was prone to do. Getting the bare minimum of information from her family was something she was sadly used to. Although she technically didn’t need to know all of the specifics, it would’ve been nice. But what was done was done. She needed to deal with the here and now, rather than worry about the future.
Judging from the confused look coming from what was supposed to be her teacher, he either didn’t get the message, or had forgotten the contents once he read it. She wasn’t sure what was the case. She was sure she’d find out eventually though, once the man gathered his scattered thoughts. Figuring out what was going on after awakening was always a challenge, so she didn’t really blame him. Still, this was not how she had expected the meeting to go. Not at all.
Wycliff kept the dumfounded look upon his face as he heard her name and the explanation that she was giving him as to why she was here. If there was one thing that really bothered him it was nobles and the intitled attitude that they had that everyone had to bow to them, just because of their luck at birth. Honestly Wycliff upon hearing her last name was about ready to throw her out of his barracks, as he really really disliked taking orders, especially from nobles. The only reason he held back is that she hadn’t given off that air of superiority that most nobles gave.
“Look, Wynne… was it? I neva got a letter from ya family, much less even read one from ya nobles. So ya gotta understand from where I’m looking ya a random girl demanding that I train ya. Ya know how bad that looks that an unseated officer is giving orders to a captain.” Wycliff wasn’t about to say no to the idea of training her, he just wanted to vent a bit of his frustration out, he had been sleeping and enjoying the dream when he was rudely awoken. That and how often would he actually be able to tell a noble they were wrong and be right about it.
Before she could even say anything else he raised a hand up to keep her from speaking. “Listen I ain’t opposed to teaching ya. I do like training other Shinigami to better use kido, but ya woke me up from a nap n right now I ain’t really in the mood to deal with a noble.” Wycliff said this as a broad statement as he really had a low tolerance for nobles. Usually given that they had an attitude about everything. Wynne would have a chance to speak as Wycliff was done speaking. He was still sitting down trying to get a better read of this noble and fully wake up.

As a frown began to grow on her face, Wynne let out a mental sigh. It seems her mother was causing her problems once again. Looking back, the whole situation seemed odd from the get go. Usually her mother didn’t want anything to do with her, and suddenly she had a training opportunity lined up for her? It seemed too good to be true. And naturally it was. She wasn’t sure who was at fault here, her mother or the captain. Either way it didn’t really matter, as she had to deal with the current situation, regardless of the blame. Still, as a Kuchiki, Wynne had a little bit of pride, so she couldn’t take the captain’s words lying down as she normally would.
“Regardless of whether you got the letter or not, it seems there wouldn’t have been a point either way, since you clearly have no desire to read one from us nobles. As for the claim that I was giving orders to a captain, I in no way, shape, or form demanded such a thing. It was merely a request. There’s a reason there’s a saying about assumptions after all.”
Normally Wynne wouldn’t dare to say such things to someone of a higher rank, but there was only so much she could take. She didn’t really like her family, but she still cared for him. Say things about her all you like, but leave her family out of it. Although the captain lumped up her family with nobles in general, the meaning was clear. He didn’t particularly care for them. Judging the group as a whole rather than looking at the individuals. And because of this, Wynne didn’t particularly care for him either anymore. Training alone seemed like it would be a more fruitful endeavor than what this current mess was.
“I’ll leave you to your nap. Pardon my intrusion.” Twisting her body around smoothly, Wynne headed back from the way she came in. She doubted anything good could come from further conversation with the captain, so there was no reason for her to stay. It was rude, but she couldn’t find it in herself to care. She had tried being nice, and it hadn’t gotten her anywhere. A missed opportunity some would say. But to her, it was clearly anything but. This would teach her to trust her mother’s words. She had been taken for a fool one time to many. Not anymore.
