Camila sighed as she exited the Dangai, making her way into the World of the Living. Her mission for the day had been rather simple, to say the least; her goal was the purification of twenty separate hollows that had been making 'headlines' for terrorizing specific areas around the world. Some were more known for the damage and destruction they had been causing than others, while some had only been grouped into this hunt by association with the stronger ones. Either way, they were all considered priority targets, and needed to be dealt with.
Interestingly enough, this mission was a bounty of sorts. While there was no real reward for the completion of doing so, Camila still decided to take up the mission to begin with. This was a phenomenal opportunity for her, and one that she was in no way going to pass up. It was way too good of a way for her to earned the combat experience she oh so desperately needed. Her goal by the end of all of this; Vice Captain of Squad 13. She'd take the time here to prove herself worthy of the position.
While that certainly wasn't going to be an easy task, it was a task she needed to complete anyway. She wanted to be able to help the squad maintain a level of prosperity that needed to be attained even in Ludwig's absence; what better way to do that and help her comrades than attain a position that was right below Ludwig? Granted, her goal out of all of this wasn't a way to maintain power, but instead a way to help her friends within the squad reach a similarly elevated position within the already corporate-hell organization the Soul Society was.
She breathed in the fresh air around her; Denver, Colorado. While the weather wasn't exactly the most welcoming, it was certainly an area she thought herself to enjoy being in. She loved the bustling city life, the surrounding people, and everything else that went along with it. It reminded her of her home in Quebec, to an extent. She smiled at the thought. Gods, how she missed her old family life; hell, even just how she missed her family, after watching them all mercilessly slaughtered by-
She shook her head. This wasn't something she was going to think about right now. There were much more pressing matters she had to worry about, other than sulking over something in the past that couldn't be changed, no matter how hard she had tried to do so. She had a mission she needed to stay focused on. There was too much potentially riding on this that she couldn't afford to fuck it up; she needed to make sure her mind was clear, and that she was prepared to put her life on the line for all of this.
Camila took the time to mentally review the notes on the first hunt; To her knowledge, this hollow was the weakest of the batch. Nothing more than some sort of lesser hollow, not relatively well-known to those of Seireitei. It was pretty much easy pickings. As far as its capabilities went, a large majority of its attacks were going to be based in water. This was something she could've easily dealt with, given the decent selection of Hado she had under her belt; purifying this hollow was going to be fairly easy.
First, though, she'd need to locate the beast to the best of her ability. Thankfully, she'd procured Hollow Bait from that Quincy outpost she had taken down alongside Ailene, but it was in no way going to be enough to complete every hunt with one of them; she only had five total. That being said, she'd decided that, due to having never used one before, now would've been a good time to do so, considering if something went wrong using it later on, she could land herself in deep shit that she might not have been able to recover from.
Holding the bait in her hand, she promptly crushed it between her fingers, letting the small chunks fly off into the wind, and wiped her hand on her robes. Grabbing the her blade from its holster on her hip, Camila prepared for the incoming waves upon waves of hollows. She'd need to be prepared to protect the lives of anyone wandering around the streets, as if she'd let any of them die, that'd likely leave her reputation in a place that would need to be picked up immensely for her to get the position she sought.
After a few short moments, hollows quickly began to pour into the area, one right after another. Every time she spotted one, she'd make haste to it in order to cleave it down to the best of her abilities, and then spot another one as quickly as she could to repeat the process. One after another, each hollow she had taken down began to purify, only a further acknowledgement that she had been making a fair bit of progress toward completing her mission. That being said, she knew it would take a moment for the hollow she was specifically looking for to reveal itself.
As the day continued, and more and more hollows had been chopped down, Camila began to tire, growing ever frustrated that the hollow in question hadn't shown up yet. Maybe it was due to the hollow bait? Perhaps it had been a bad idea; nothing more than a waste of time as opposed to just tracking it on her own? Surely there had to be a better way to find the damn thing. If that were the case, packing it up might've been the best idea. In fact, she was just about to do so until, from the corner of her eye, she had spotted a hollow with the exact description of the marked target.
Almost immediately, she bolted over toward the hollow with a Shunpo. She was ecstatic that she had encountered the damn thing after so, so long! The time to fight the first one was finally upon her! With that being said, she went for the kill straight away, and aimed to cleave it down with an overhead slice. To her surprise, the beast had taken a step back to dodge the blow. Not only was it fast enough to do so, but she was able to piece together that this hollow was already a decent bit smarter than the others she had been up against.
She smiled. This fight was going to take a bit, and that wasn't something she was against. Once she landed, she assumed a defensive stance, in order to see what the hollow was going to do, and try to figure out what she could about its fighting style. There were plenty of possibilities, and she'd need to figure out exactly how she needed to counter the damn thing if she would be able to. She decided it would be a sound idea to make a strike, though with Kido, in order to see how the hollow reacted.
Holding two fingers in front of her chest, she began to focus a large amount of her reiatsu into her fingertips. Small cracklings of lightning could be seen forming around them, as she continued to prep the spell. "Arise god of thunder! Awake mother of storms! Unleash the lighting on the sinners!" With those words - the specific incantation for her spell - spoken, the reiatsu around her fingertips flared to a much stronger power. She pointed these outstretched fingers toward the beast, and finished off the spoken words necessary for the spell to take effect.
"Hado number 4: Byakurai."
With that, a massive surge of electricity lunged from her fingertips, and straight toward the beast. Much to her surprise and disdain, however, the hollow was quick enough to easily make haste to leave the area around the blast. This not only shocked her, but encouraged her to launch another. After she did, the hollow, once again, was fast enough to make it out of the way. This confirmed she'd need an alternate method of attacking; perhaps baiting the hollow into something that'd leave it open and prepped for counterstrike?
While she was spending the time contemplating her next action, the hollow wasted no time, and immediately began to charge her. Its massive horns were aimed straight for her chest, and if she didn't move she'd likely be gored to a hasty second death. That being said, moving is exactly what she did. She took to the air with a Shunpo, and let gravity do the rest of the work for her, sending her back down after the hollow had already travelled far past her. Not long after she made contact with the ground, the hollow turned around, realizing that it hadn't hit her.
Once again, it had decided to charge her. It scraped its foot against the ground once, twice, three times before bolting toward the young Shinigami. Once again, she'd taken the opportunity to propel herself upward as the hollow continued to run straight passed. Once again, she landed, and it turned around. She quickly acknowledged the fact that she couldn't, nor did she desire to keep this up forever. She needed a game plan. She'd decided to try another head-on attack.
Steeling herself for the strike she was going to make, she once again launched herself forward, though this time not with a shunpo, and aimed for the beast's mask. Much to her dismay, and much like the beast had originally done to begin with, her attack was simply sidestepped. Though, this time, it had been followed up with a counterstrike, with the hollow spinning around and slamming into Camila with its tail. In turn, this sent her straight into the side of a building.
She took a quick second to breathe after the attack had been made against her, needing that time to recuperate so that she could return a barrage of attack against the beast. Similarly to before, she charged toward the hollow, was caught off guard when it had side stepped for the third time, and was promptly slammed into the ground this time by its massive tail. She coughed, having the wind knocked out of her, before throwing herself backward and up off the ground.
A new strategy was absolutely needed at this point. She couldn't keep letting herself get ragged on like she was; it was going to wear her down much faster than she wanted to allow to happen. Though, a thought of worry washed over her. If this was the weakest hollow of the bunch, what had the next one been like? Hell, how bad would the strongest one end up being? Surely there was a way she could deal with this hollow, but what of the others? Her pondering had been cut short though, as a stream of scalding hot water flew not inches from her face.
Taking a step to the other side of the attack, Camila took this opportunity to strike back while the beast was firing an attack. She once again held her fingers to her chest, and quickly forced her reiatsu to take form there. Small bolts of lightning began to discharge, before she aimed her fingers not at the hollow this time, but at the stream of water it had been firing, and launched the hado. The electricity had run straight up the stream, stunning the hollow from a distance, and allowing her to circle in for the kill.
