"Burn Hachiryuu!"
A flash of burning orange reiatsu radiated off Kaen and condensed upon his right arm forming a metal brace as it did. Black flame patterns that snaked up the length of the brace erupted into a gout of roaring flame that slammed into the Kraken's face at a point near where his left arm was trapped. The Kraken screamed in a high pitched cross between a lion's roar and the squawk of an eagle or hawk, but at a much greater volume. Kaen's nose was assaulted by the smell of acrid, burning flesh and the sizzle and pop of melting fat, or more likely - jello that made up the creature's body.
Several of it's closest eyes had melted from their sockets, and obvious third degree burns had melted entire chunks of its flesh, which leaked translucent stomach acids from the damaged tissues. Splashing to the floor below, each drop sizzled as it began to corrode the floor beneath where it fell. Alas, while Kaen's first attack had caused significant damage to the creature, the vacuum-like suction of its peristaltic contractions held Kaen's arm fast within its torso.
Narrowing his blast into a concentrated tendril of super-heated flame, Kaen torched the area surrounding his trapped limb. This attack seemed to do the trick, as the creatures gelatin-like flesh peeled apart like metal before a blacksmith's cutting torch. As he pulled his arm free, the Kraken thrashed furiously in extreme pain and agony, shying away from the burning agony that consumed its body leaving a gaping, charred hole deep within its body. Stomach acid pumped freely from this wound like blood from an artery. Had such an injury been narrower, the incredible pressure of a more narrow stream of acid would have been like a fire hydrant, punching through flesh in a highly-concentrated pressurized spray.
As it was however, Kaen was even more fortunate that his attack propelled him backward, and out of the range of the swiftly spreading pool of acid that washed out from the thrashing, wounded Kraken. Had he remained standing where he was, his legs and feet would have been sprayed with the highly corrosive substance.
Taking a moment to survey his surroundings, Kaen called out to a powerful masked shinigami who had somehow taken command of several chicken-like monstrosities. How Kaen had failed to notice three titanic undead beasts among the throng of opponents, he might never know. Scratch that four such beasts, as one lay twitching in a bloody heap nearby. It's still thrashing but completely useless body riddled with a multitude of holes, that had cut the creature in twain. On a nearby wall, the distorted, gigantic face of Ken'ichi Shihoin muttered nonsensical drivel. Something about apples?
"Hey! You over there! Thiiird Seat? Mind tagging in? My powers seem a bad match for this thing! I can take yours if you want me to!
"Everyone except for that third seat, keep clear of big jello over here." Pausing momentarily, as an afterthought Kaen added: "And don't touch it with your bare skin! It'll pull you in!"
Leaping clear of the thrashing kraken as it flailed in agony, Kaen decided to deal with the swarm of metallic spider-like creatures. Unleashing a wide, sweeping inferno across the creatures, he hoped to rid himself of the troubling pests before they managed to complete their task. Thinking his attack successful, Kaen would be shocked to see that while those creatures which took the brunt of the attack had begun to melt, and stumbled on their partially-melted limbs, the vast majority of the creatures were unaffected save for a warm orange glow which was even now swiftly subsiding. Even the few that appeared to suffer any damage were only slowed by his attack, thanks to their damaged joints.
Flames seemed to have little effect on the creatures, and it took a few moments before Kaen would notice even a single spider mechanoid felled by his attack. While it was apparent that his flames caused little damage, it would be a lie to say it had no effect however as the swarm turned its attention squarely toward Kaen. A loud mechanical buzzing occurred as the spiders vibrated wing-like structures on their backs, before a wave of the creatures surged forward like a flood of angry ants at incredible speed. Before he could react, the lead mechanoids leaped toward Kaen with razor sharp dagger like legs. Kaen would need to react swiftly to not be impaled by the first of the creatures, or worse yet - to be swarmed by the several-dozen spider-things that surged toward him.
The remainder of the swarm formed an even larger cocoon around whatever it was they were assembling, with the oddly colored mechanoids reassembling themselves into the cocoon's outer shell. Those who could sense reiatsu would sense that this outer skin radiated a faint reiatsu signature all but absent from the other creatures. Most likely a product of the materials they themselves were assembled from - the consumed asauchi.
A spreading patch of grey, stone-like flesh radiating outward from a small puncture on the dinosaur's ankle gave clear indication that the cockatrices had caused more than a minor wound. Stumbling in confusion, the tyrannosaur looked down at its injured leg, and roared in frustration as it tried to move the swiftly petrifying limb (Reduced Speed - 300). It was clear that the dinosaur was far more intelligent than any that Connor had ever heard of previously, and it appeared to be contemplating its options. Connor was not about to give it an opportunity to come up with a solution however.
With sweeping strikes of his zanpakutou, Connor struck each of the felled cockatrice with a poisoned wave, causing the deceased creatures to grow to gigantic proportions like its predecessor. Rising from the ground, the three undead cockatrice crowed with a dragon-like squawk of their own and swarmed the injured tyrannosaur. With the ammunition of its twin-mounted gattling guns expended, the tyrannosaur launched several short-range tactical missiles at the approaching cockatrice. The building shuddered as the missiles exploded point-blank in a series of staccato explosions. One of the three cockatrice took a missile center-mass and exploded in a shower of blood, feathers, and bone. The two remaining cockatrice were injured by the missiles, but managed to avoid a direct impact.
Hearing Kaen calling out to him, Connor replied to his suggestion to switch dance partners. "FINE! BUT YOU OWE ME!"
Sprinting toward the injured abomination, Connor failed to notice his badly burned minions recovering from the dinosaur's volley, and surge toward the dinosaur. Squawking in rage, his minions swiftly overwhelmed the weakened dinosaur, tearing chunks of flesh with each bite or slash of their massive, clawed talons. To anyone watching, it was clear that the Tyrannosaur was out of options, and before long the gravely injured cockatrice stood triumphant over a swiftly petrifying corpse.
Behind a spiritually reinforced two-way mirror, Ken'ichi and Aramis watched the events unfold with detached curiosity, taking detailed notes of the respective powers of the most stand-out officers. They paid close attention in particular to both Kaen and Connor who appeared to be the clear favorites among the competitors, and commented at the unique powers that Connor displayed. In particular his ability to resurrect the recently slain corpses, and create grotesque visages of the vice captain with his powers was of great interest to the both of them. It took Ken'ichi great self-restraint to not burst into laughter, and the absurdity of his visages nonsensical word salad, but he managed.
From the back of the chamber, yet another explosion rocked the building as shinigami bodies flew like rag-dolls through the air, propelled away from a glowing purple shockwave that was even now swiftly receding. Standing in the center of the shockwave, a red-eyed human - or something that passed for it glared malevolently. A blitz of movement later, and the figure grasped hold of a nearby shinigami and dug its fangs deep within the victim's neck.
Recovering from the propulsive shockwave that threw them bodily across the room, several of the more durable shinigami stood up and warily began circling their foe. Their less durable companions fared rather well however, laying about in various states of concussion, or unconsciousness but were clearly still alive.
"Ah the bount has decided to enter the fray. This will be interesting indeed." Ken'ichi commented, as he motioned to Aramis upon seeing the purple shockwave explode from somewhere near the back of the chamber.

{Replicator - Energy Resistance (Class 3)}
While extremely vulnerable to high velocity solid projectiles, and blunt-force impact - replicators are extremely resistant to energy-based attacks.
When defending against any plasma-based attack, including fire, electricity, or directed energy blasts - replicators use the combined strength of the swarm (750) as their durability. This has no effect on physical attacks, high velocity solid projectiles (eg. bullets), or attacks which freeze. Against such attacks, the replicators resist these attacks using their individual Strength (25), or Reiatsu Strength (25) respectively.
