-Basic Information-
Name: Azami Hirayama
Age of Death: 36
Real Age/Age of Appearance: 19
Birthday (Month/Day): May 12th
Blood Type: O
There were no flowers budding the Sakura tree outside of the Academy. Not the right time of year for that. However, much like the knowledge she was confident she'd gain come spring, it would bloom. Patience is key, she thought to herself with slow strides up the steps to the front entrance. No turning back now, as if beyond the walls was anything to return to in the first place. She was dead, she knew that, the only path for her now was forward. There was nothing for her to retreat to anyway. Azumi's only option was to be confident and keep moving forward, and so her smile was bright and eager to take on the challenge of graduating from the Academy. It was ironic, in a way, how her chance to get out and do something only came now that she had gone and died.
No use in self pity, the voice of her mother replayed in her mind. Find the opportunity in what brings you down and use it as a notch to lift yourself back to where you aught to be.
This was the first rung of that ladder.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Appearance-
Height/Weight: 5'9'', 130lbs
Physical Description:
Azami presents herself as the modern Japanese college girl. From her brightly-colored hair and sleepy aura, her appearance seems at odds with itself. Her spine is rarely straight, given her a somewhat slouched and fatigued posture only furthered by the lethargic way she walks and carries herself. While her height and weight are average, all of the above make her seem much meeker than how she measures. Her skin is paler than usual. Similar to those with ginger hair, her skin lacks pigment to the point where her veins and blemishes stick out a little more than she'd be comfortable with. Coinciding with her general demeanor, her build is skinny and hardly muscular. Most of the fat in her body gathers around her center of mass. While she doesn't have a fat stomach per se, she definitely has more of a pudge than firm abs. She doesn't keep in shape so that fact doesn't surprise her. Everyone has stomach rolls. Everyone.
Bone structure tight, her face is small yet wieldy. Eyes as wide-set as her cheekbones, her full cheeks taper off into a sharp jawline giving the shape of a heart. The skin of her cheeks are not generally pigmented, lacking any sort of youthful glow. If not for their fat contents, they'd seem rather hollow from non-pigment. Azami's eyes are sunken, colored a deep dull magenta. If her lids are wide enough for her eye color to be discernable, her pupil is colored a similar but much darker shade, bordering gray. Dark circles naturally rest under her thick eyelashes. Full lips guard average teeth. White, thankfully, but not perfectly straight due to life's circumstances. Her nose is button-like but upturned, narrow in the bridge but widening towards the ball. Her brows are a carefully kept dark brown, arched in a way that can be expressive but presents neutral. Azami's ears stick out like a sore thumb, fanned out and round enough to draw teasing and taunts during her human childhood. Her chin is round and forehead mild, browbone soft as a contrast to her sunken eyesockets.
If Azami were to put effort into anything in the morning it would be her hair. Dyed a vibrant Ombre from pastel pink to purple, her messy french bob radiates with both color and health. It's her pride, in a way, the one physical part of herself she can normally muster up the energy to coif and style. She rarely has the time for makeup, and if she does find that energy or time, it normally goes into a simple layer of foundation. She doesn't have the practice or knowhow surrounding any further applications of makeup. It's kind of sad, but mascara, eyeshadow, and blush are all beyond her. For the average person, its a simple application, but Azami would find a way to make herself look like a clown. Her nails are either painted a matte black or filed short with no paint. Her skin is bare in terms of piercings and tattoos, although she's not particularly opposed to them on principle.
Because of her newfound freedom in death, her style of dress ranges from demure white dresses to harsh black leather and lace. It's not as though she's trying to be edgy, it's just that she loves black as a color of fabric and never got to wear it when she was living. If you were to ask her, it would also definitely not be her trying to prove something to the world around her. In terms of academy wear, she does not deviate from dress-code. Depending on the environment, however, she may decide to wear her black ring choker under the red and white uniform. Azami's fashion choices readily present themselves off campus. Her favorite alternative wear consists of a black lace corset that flows down into a black skirt ruffled with red satin. Azami generally wears her detached and equally as black puff sleeves with this outfit, but on a warmer day she'd usually skip both that and her trademark knee-high boots. Depending on her energy level, Azami may or may not fasten a mini gothic top-hat to her hair, from which beads hang from a red rose pin.

-Personality-
Dislikes:
Caffeine
Azami is not a fan of any type of stimulant, particularly because it seems to interrupt her ability to focus and cast Alongside this, it tends to upset her stomach and circadian rhythm.
Aggressiveness
People who generally act in a way that can be seen as overly violent do not fare well with Azami's judgement. She doesn't enjoy violence nor what results from it. However, she is not opposed to using violence to solve problems, just against the overly liberal application instead.
Rudeness
Azami tends to be a friendly person, and expects the same in return. She has little to sociall gain from those that treat her rudely, and is unlikely to be friends with somebody who treats her as such. Personally, she doesn't seem to care about rudeness in regards to how other people are being treated. It's not that she is not empathetic, but she doesn't like to insert herself into interpersonal conflicts without knowing the whole story.
Bright Lights
Acclimated to darkness or dim lighting, being out in the bright sun or under fluorescent lighting can make her irritable at times. She would much rather be out at night than under a bright blaring sun. It also tends to disrupt her sleep cycles.
Loud Noises
Being someone that scares rather easily, loud noises are not her favourite. Things in this nature tend to make her jump and startle before cursing and glaring angrily at whoever frightened her. Not out of embarrassment over reacting with fright, but from general disruption to her focus and train of thought.
Broccoli
From her human time in the hospital, broccoli is one of the foods she never wants to taste again. From how they used to cook it until mushy, the texture and taste are something she can go without for the rest of her Shinigami life.
Pain
Because of how she lived her life as a human, pain is not something she is accustomed to at all. The slightest headache is enough to make her whine out and be generally miserable for the course of its duration. Any minor injury like a cut or burn is enough to bring tears to her eyes.
Alcohol
With little experience surrounding alcohol and being drunk, she tends to avoid it out of fear of doing something she would regret and not remember. Mostly, her dislike of Alcohol comes from anxiety.
Likes:
Sweets
When Azami was still living as a human, her mother used to bring her gifts every time she visited. Normally, these gifts would always be sweets or desserts of some kind. Her favorite artificial flavor had to be strawberries, and her favourite desert being strawberry cream Poki.
Sleeping
From her life as a human, her general appreciation for sleep would seem odd. However, her liking of rest tends to come from habit instead of active opinion. At this point in her life, lengthy sleep and naps are normal for her at any hour of the day. Regardless of how tired she actually is, sleep always brings her relief in one way or another. It wouldn't be a surprise to catch her sleeping at inappropriate times, but she tries her best to avoid doing so.
Romance or Horror Movies
As a romantic person in general, they tend to be her favorite genre of movie. When she's feeling a little more creative however, horror tends to be the genre she reaches for. Azami enjoys the way horror movies can make her feel and how creative the narratives can get.
Butterflies
A butterfly garden used to rest outside of her mortal hospital room. There were butterflies of every color and pattern perched on her sill every morning, ready to greet her for the day. They always looked at her, but she knew they knew not of the significance their presence held. Azami will always appreciate a wild butterfly, tending to her own as pets and having multiple enclosures of her own at home.
Flowers
Related to why she likes butterflies, the garden- of course- had many flowers within its walls. Mostly roses alongside other red-colored blooms, chamomile and peonie flowers were assorted into the usual garden flower varieties.
Reserved Characters
Azami tends to appreciate the company of those who keep themselves in check. She finds it easier to think around people who do not overwhelm any of her senses. She doesn't dislike those who are a bit more on the wild side, just that she has a preference for the silent thoughtful types.
Strong-arm Characters
Orchestral Music
A favorite of hers in mortal life, and a favorite of hers after it. Orchestral music was used to bring down her blood pressure for checkups, and now she uses it to unwind after a particularly tough day of classes and volunteering.
Flaws:
Narcoleptic
Azami has a bad habit of falling asleep at the worst times. During class, ceremonies, conversation, etc. It makes her appear quite rude which she is not a fan of. If she was on the receiving end of one of her moments, they'd get an earful. She does her best to warn people if she's feeling particularly tired, she doesn't actually want people to think she's the type of person to sleep during a respect ceremony.
Judgemental
Azami is the type of person to judge a book by its cover, but never act on her judgement. She can't stop herself from stereotyping, assuming, anything along those lines. Though, thankfully, by now she has learned to keep her prejudices to herself. For the most part her judgment of others is minor, but can rarely be over larger aspects.
Sensitive
Azami is the type of person to cry at a papercut. She has much to learn in terms of willpower and pain tolerance. She doesn't enjoy combat training for this purpose. The sight of her own blood makes her nauseous, but she doesn't particularly react to seeing the blood of other people. Her sensitivity is not only physical, she finds herself easily offended by insults and things of that nature. While she doesn't get upset at people very easy, it's easy to make her misinterpret a joke and feel hurt but never say anything.
Afraid
Ultimately, Azami is fearful of many things. She's afraid of getting into real combat and injuring herself for real. Even though she has the expertise to take care of herself, the pain of hurting herself is more of what causes her fear than anything else. Pain has the abiltiy to forcefully wake her from her reverie.
Habits:
Baking
Azami has the habit of baking in her free time. While she doesn't cook per se, she spends a lot of time baking things like cupcakes, cakes, pies, etc. Since she has a lot of practice making them, they come naturally to her. If you were to ask her why she likes making them, she would say she never had the chance to eat many sweets in her human life, and that she enjoys decorating cakes and cupcakes with frosting and other adornments.
Reverie
Much like her narcolepsy, Azami finds herself daydreaming often. It is very hard for her to focus in class or otherwise boring situations because her mind tends to wander. It wanders the point of rudeness as other people would say. Azami doesn't see it that way, but is certainly embarrassed by it whenever it comes up or is brought to attention by another person.
Reading
Azami finds herself reading in a sizeable portion of her free time. If she's not sleeping or baking, she can usually be found reading. There's nothing like a good book in her opinion, of any genre to be honest. Her preference for books doesn't correlate to her preference of movies where she only tolerates two genres of them. She reads anything from classics to cheap dollar store thrillers.
Fears:
Waking Up
Azami is afraid of waking up and facing reality. Ever since she died and rose again in soul society, she was waiting for the moment her dream would fade and she'd wake up in the cold nothingness of death's embrace. There's no way somthing like this is the afterlife, it's too warm for that. She's afraid of waking up and realizing that none of her friends like her, she's failing her courses in the academy, and that she'll never amount to anything.
Guilt
Azami feels guilty over how she treated her family when she was alive, and she fears meeting them in the afterlife. Knowing that people can end up here in soul society, the last thing she wants to do is meet one of her family members and have to deal with those consequences. She doesn't even know if any of them are still alive for that matter, as time seems to pass differently in soul society.
Goals:
Exploration
Azami wants to graduate from Soul Academy and get out and experience the world. She doesn't want to be confined anymore, she's fine being stationed wherever as long as it means she can go places and see what the world has to offer. There is nothing that satisfies her more than a good adventure with her friends and the people that she loves most.
Accomplishment
Azami wants to graduate from Soul Academy and amount to something in her second life. From how she lived as a mortal, she never wants to repeat that ever again. She will amount to something this time, now that she has the power to push beyond her physical limits. With her sights set on advancing in the fourth squadron, she will find her place eventually.
Protection
Azami wants to take an active role in taking care of and protecting the people she cherishes most. Unable to do so in her mortal life, she strives to be this way in her second one. She will fight tooth and nail for those around her and would never let any of her friends anguish go unnoticed. The last thing she ever wants is for one of her friends to think that she doesn't care about them or how they feel.
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Overall Personality:
A dreamer, lover, baker, and caretaker. Azami is many things in her new life as a Shinigami, much more than what she was in her mortal life. She strives to keep herself busy in the afterlife, taking many extracurricular activities outside of her administered courses and classes of Soul Academy. It's not that she's an overachiever, because she doesn't care to boast over her accomplishments, but she just doesn't want to miss out on any presented opportunities anymore. With this in mind, she is rarely found just sitting at home unless she's baking or reading. Part of her wanderlust brings her to different parts of Soul Society, finding new alcoves to nap between classes or peaceful places for her to rest.
As a friend, she would be described by other people as a mother hen. From her own description, she thinks of herself more like a strong hand that helps her friends when needed. In reality, she's the type of friend that brings a knapsack of snacks, wipes, and anything else any of her friends could need. She is always prepared to help out a person in need, and is always willing to share. This doesn't mean that she's this helpful to strangers, but once she gets herself a friend they are usually in good hands for the duration of their relationship. And even if her friendship with somebody ends, she will still think of them fondly. Azami is not the vengeful type of person, she finds it too easy to forgive people, to the point of fault in all honesty.
Azami's creativity is nothing to be laughed at. Her reverie brings her to many different places, all sources of inspiration for how she can carry herself to explore and find locales of interest outside of her dream. While Azami lacks the confidence to do anything with her creativity like paint or write, she expresses her excess imagination decorating cakes and baking goods. If neither of those things are available, she usually puts her creativity into the dreams that she gives her patients, conjuring up a nice fairy tail for them to experience while they heal.
Her personality lends herself to making many friends. She has lots of love to share around in friendly and both romantic ways. She has no preference for any gender, but has a slight lean towards masculinity. She normally ends up making friends with girls though, as it is traditionally less complicated than any of the feelings that come along with befriending a guy. Azami genuinely wants to be friends with everyone, even though she knows that this is not generally possible. Conflict is not something she handles well, finding herself troubled by what other people think of her and how they could possibly talk about her behind he back.
Azami's healing nature comes from her desire to prevent those from living their second life like how she lived her first. Life in Soul Society was supposed to be good, and she'd make it good for the people around her. To see suffering in paradise is a failure of paradise, and so she'd do anything in her power to help somebody overcome their suffering and see the joy in everyday life. Fighting is not something she wants to do with her life, but if push comes to shove she is not opposed to doing it in order to help her friends. While not an overwhelming force herself, she enjoys enabling those around her instead of doing all the work
herself.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Powers-
Fighting Style:
Azami fights like the traditional spellcaster. Due to her physical fragility, she never puts herself on the frontlines of combat. She's not meant for that. Instead, she normally tucks herself away in the sidelines or behind the fighters where she is generally safe. With this position, she is normally free to heal her teammates and freefire kido on the enemy in front of her. Her skillset lends her to be a ranged fighter instead of anybody that likes to get close. Her abilities lend her mobility to disengage proactively instead of aggressive engagement. Positioning is one of the most important things she has learned in squad four's combat tactics class. She never should be in a position that can easily be reached by an enemy, she needs to be one step ahead of them at all times. Generally, she prefers having high ground over a fight, so she can see both her allies and enemies at once.
Azami views herself like a strategist and military leader. She goes to great lengths to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of her allies. With this information in mind, she will do everything in her power to amplify their abilities and make up for their weaknesses. Teamwork is vital, in her opinion, to winning any battle. Fairness is a construct, and there is not concept such as fighting honor in her opinion. Fighting solo to prove something is not something Azami can ever approve of, unless her friends absolutely wish it of course. In general, she wants to lead a battle like a commander than be a foot soldier. She can do it in a pinch, but it's not the position she prefers herself to be in. From her own view of her skillset and abilities, having her perform as a main fighter is a waste of her talent and capabilities.
Azami doesn't want to be the type of person who leaves carnage and destruction in her wake. If she could choose, she'd leave all of her enemies peacefully sleeping until she accomplishes what needs to be done. Although it pains her, she sometimes does have to hurt others. It's an unescapable reality of combat. People will get hurt, both on her side and the side she is fighting against. Knowing that she can heal and help her own people though, gives her a confidence in battle that is difficult to specify without foresight. With her creativity in mind, she tends to have a flashy fighting style, liking to keep things flashy and brilliant for onlookers or even her opponents. What she loses in raw power, she makes up for in style.
Zanpakutou Spirit Appearance:
淡紅色 夢想
Azami's Zanpakutou Spirit takes the appearance of a large green dragon. Stunted in a way, his wings are short and body too small for how large his head appears. It's almost cartoonish in proportion, its green scales budding with grasses and flowers. Spines of wood appearing to be tree branches form antlers on its head and spines along his back.
Inner World(Optional):
Azami's inner world is large an expansive, comprising of two cores. The outer core of her inner world is a venetian city stuck in eternal midnight. Fireworks light the sky in endless celebration as the city dreams in reverie. Banners and decorations adorn the town with beads and glistening glitter. The inhabitants of the city are all a part of Azami's dream, sporting masquerade gowns and masks to boot. At the center of the city of canals and festivities, a large clocktower looms. Its face is decorated in stain glass butterflies behind the eternal tick of its clockface.
Inside the clocktower is her innermost core, where her Zanpakuto usually resides. An eternally pink forest lays within, verdant pink grass and sakura trees cast everything in a soft warm hue. A river flows from within the forest to the clocktowers entrance, but does not spill out. Flowers bloom as far as the eye can see in this core, for there are no false villagers to trample them in their reverie.
Zanpakutou Appearances:
Azami's sealed Zanpakutou takes the standard form of Katana with pink and black butterfly motifs carved into the blade. Under Shikai, her Zanpakutou takes the form of a pink and black hand fan, edges sharpened and ready for combat. The fan has swirling floral designs along its lace. Under bankai, the dragon dwelling in her inner sanctuary comes forth through a crack in reality. The green-scaled dragon has tiny wings and a small body in comparison to its large head. Azami's Reiatsu color is an opalescent pink, meaning it can have shades of green and blue depending on the angle viewed.
Zanapkutou Release Names(Include both Shikai and Bankai names, and call out phrases)
淡紅色 夢想 (Tankōshoku Musō) - Shikai: Reverie!
Mayonaka no Yume - Bankai: Midnight Dream!
Overall Ability:
Butterfly Dream
Azami has the ability to project her mortal dream state into reality. This manifests as being able to create and control butterflies that can touch her allies to heal them, or cause them to fall into her dreamspace in various states of fatigue and sleep. For clarification, the dreamspace is only a state of mind in which immediate surroundings are veiled by illusions of varying strength. Azami's healing can come in potent bursts or lingering heals that last over a duration, depending on the type and quantity of butterflies she sends out. When she releases a dream butterfly, it has to make physical contact with her enemy for them to be affected by the dream. In this context, physical contact refers to any medium not designated to be used defensively. Skin, hair, hollow mask, etc.
When dreaming, depending on the opponents willpower and difference in spiritual strength, their physical body can be anywhere from drowsy to comatose. For most shinigami of equal level, however, they are able to still stand in a potent state of fatigue like sleepwalking. This is mostly for flavour, and has no effect on an opponents stats unless otherwise specified by a technique. While dreaming, her enemies are thrust into Azami's dreamspace that she can control like a lucid dream. This dreamspace reflects her current physical setting and mental state. As it is just a dream, the only effect it has on her opponents is mental and strategic. For example, mushrooms with faces that jump in the way of attacks or walls of pink mist that block line of sight. Azami can share the dreamspace with any allies being healed or having been recently healed without them undergoing its fatigue-inducing effects. A downside to this power is that she cannot willfully create a nightmare or anything mentally scaring unless the current situation greatly stresses her mental state, meaning she would have to be at rock bottom to manifest anything beyond what could be found in a dream-like fairy garden. In general, she uses her dream ability to give advantages to her allies by disorienting and confusing her enemies. While in the dreamspace, Azami passively generates mild illusions in her field. An example of these mild illusions would be pink grass, amber sky color, pink mist, anything that doesn't cause too much effect on a fight. Casting a more active illusion requires concentration and direction as if casting Kido. This means, then, that if she's focused on controlling her illusions she can't do much else at the same time. Casting a solid illusion incurs a Reiatsu cost equal to half of what it would be considered as Kido.
From how Azami's reiatsu materializes and concentrates, her Kido spells have the aesthetic affect of being phantasmally pink with butterfly motifs, as if taken from her dream itself. Any kido Azami casts is seen as indistinguishable from her harmless illusions by those in her dreamspace, unless they can see through them of course. Unless otherwise specified, Azami's different marks can stack on top of eachother, but not ones from the same technique
Shikai Overall Ability:
Azami's Shikai brings forth her dream into her immediate surroundings through cracks in the dreamspace located at the base of her fan. With the concentrated dreamspace, Azami gains ethereal butterfly wings, granting her flight for its duration. While flying, she keeps her base speed and can only lift what her strength would otherwise allow. Because her shikai causes the dream to leak out into reality, Azami is capable of mass creating butterflies of either type. Since the dream is cracked, certain non-offensive aspects of the dream can take physical form for supportive use that do not require entry into the dreamspace to be seen. For example, in her Shikai she would be able to call forth a dreamy rose bramble, slowing movement on the battlefield or creating large garden insects that can grant her allies increase mobility when mounted.
Bankai Overall Ability:
With the summoning of her inner sanctuary guardian, the dream becomes real. Since the dream is real, a large area in her immediate surroundings becomes immersed in the butterfly garden dream. This immersion means things like the grass becomes pink, the sky takes a dream-like hue, insects become oversized and can speak and flowers become expressive with faces. None of this immersion, however, is offensive in nature. Instead, the battlefield becomes charged with the dreamspace's healing energy, allowing the butterflies to manifest from anywhere within the area and spread their healing aura in a pulsing area of effect. Azami's dream-inducing butterflies release a substantially weaker version of their fatigue-inducing effect over the battlefield in an area, affecting those Azami's dream interprets as an enemy. Azami has no conscious control over what the dreamspace considers to be an enemy. A downside to this could be that an enemy that used to be a friend who betrayed her could be unaffected by the area of effect dream induction.
Since her sanctuary guardian has taken form in the real world, she is able to interact with and ride it through the air. From its mouth, it is capable of spewing intense beams of concentrated butterflies that spill out into the waking world. These butterflies can then be either designated and controlled as healing or dreamspace butterflies.
Like waking from a dream, if Azami becomes too damaged or her Bankai ends, the dream and all of its effects dissipate in a burst of phantasmal colors.
Zanpakuto Techniques:
Shikai:
Garden's Kiss - Support 100 - Reiatsu
After a butterfly lands on one of her allies, Tankōshoku Musō marks them with the butterfly seal of the dreamspace garden. This mark appears as an ethereal butterfly above the head of her ally. Those marked by Tankōshoku Musō received half of any healing Azami applies directly to any other ally. If Azami heals a marked target, they instead receive a quarter more than the original heal amount and the Reiatsu cost of that healing technique is reduced by 75%. Azami can have marks on up to three targets and the initial mark application must occur within her line of sight. Siphoned healing occurs without regard to distance. Targets marked by Tankōshoku Musō can share in the dreamspace it creates and are referred to as kiss marks.
Limits Tankōshoku Musō's mark is visible to both enemy and ally, allowing enemies to focus down the allies that she cannot heal directly. Tankōshoku Musō's marks are entirely encouraged by Azami's own Reiatsu, and so if she becomes incapacitated in any event other than sleeping, the mark and its benefits are suddenly lost. If her marked target becomes inebriated or loses consciousness other than sleeping, they are unable to participate in the dream and thus lose any healing until they recover consciousness.
Vernal Wind - Support 250 - Reiatsu
Summoning a large amount of butterflies near Tankōshoku Musō, Azami sends forth a burst of healing butterflies on pink opalescent wind towards a friendly target. This wind travels in the shape of a cone from her fan, healing anyone in its reach at a strength dependent on how close they are to her when she casts it. Those closer to the tip of the cone can recover from life threatening injury while those towards the end can heal a few slashes from a sword. Those affected by this technique's healing having any status affliction caused by someone of similar reiatsu strength are cleansed and are unable to be afflicted by similar status affects under the same conditions for two posts. Hostile targets caught within the wind enter into Azami's dreamspace.
Limits This healing is an aimed projectile with average travel time, meaning that hitting her allies that are moving around quickly is very difficult. As it is based on wind, it can be blown away or scattered.
Bankai:
Garden's Blessing - Support - 150 Reiatsu
Azami blesses a target with a specialized mark resembling the head of Tankōshoku Musō's guardian form. This target must be within her line of sight upon initial application. Those marked by this technique are referred to as blessed marks. If a blessed mark is healed while healthy or receives healing that brings them above healthy, it is stored as extra vitality dependant on the damage resistance of the blessed target. In other words, they have extra health capped at an amount related to their damage taking capabilities. Additionally, blessed marks receive near immunity or strong resistance to status affliction dependant on Azami's own reiatsu strength in comparison. For example, a blessed mark will receive no benefit if the status caster's reiatsu is much stronger than Azami's. Once the extra health is consumed, the blessing expires and enters a cooldown of three posts is incurred before another mark can be applied. If other blessing marks expire during this cooldown, it is not refreshed.
Limits Blessed marks are entirely encouraged by Azami's own Reiatsu, and so if she becomes incapacitated in any event other than sleeping, the mark and its benefits are suddenly lost. Garden's Blessing does very little for characters who are by nature frail. It instead offers value to more defensive oriented characters. The status resistant effect on blessed marks is dependant on Azami's own reiatsu strength, so she cannot provide such a benefit to someone fighting an enemy stronger than her. If her marked target becomes inebriated or loses consciousness other than sleeping, they are unable to participate in the dream and thus lose any extra vitality and status resistance until they recover consciousness.
Garden's Encouragment - Support - 250 Reiatsu
Azami's Reiatsu encourages targeted allies to partake in her reverie with an encouragement mark. By encouraging their imagination, the dreamspace grants them a pair of opalescent butterfly wings permitting flight. These wings do not actually belong to Azami, instead acting as her own Reiatsu encouraging that of her target into manifestation. Referred to as encouragment marks, their flight speed is entirely dependent on the marked characters' base speed. Spiritual attacks of encouragement marks also have the added bonus of being coated in Azami's dreamspace. In other words, it allows the attacks of her allies to blend in with her illusions, illusion strength being dependent on Azami's own Reiatsu strength. This mark expires when her target touches the ground, as they become grounded in reality.
Limits Encouragement marks are entirely encouraged by Azami's own Reiatsu, and so if she becomes incapacitated in any event other than sleeping, manifested wings and the related marks are spontaneously lost. Additionally, since flight speed is dependent on the speed of an encouragement mark, slow characters have little to gain from this technique.
Garden's Wish - Support - 600 Reiatsu
Azami manifests a massive sum of her Reiatsu into fusing her wish mark onto one friendly target or her own self. This wish mark takes the appearance of a stained-glass star. Those marked by Azami's wish gain the ability to instantly recover back to healthy from any attack that would otherwise cause their death or immediate incapacitation. At this point, they lose any buff or debuff regardless of the source. Those saved by Azami's wish are in the same moment sucked into Azami's dreamspace, as in her inner sanctuary for an amount of posts Dependent on the difference between the Reiatsu strength of the person who dealt the final blow alongside Azami's own Reiatsu strength. For example, if she is at equal strength with the person that killed her wish mark, they become cocooned in her dreamspace for four posts. When this happens, the dying wish mark appears to be suddenly sealed by butterfly wings before shattering out of existence like broken stained-glass. While in her dreamspace, the recovered wish mark is part of the dreamspace bleeding into the real word. They can see everything going on within her dreamspace but cannot be seen by enemy targets within her dream or friendly targets that are not themselves partaking in her dreamspace. When this amount of time is completed, reality shatters away once more with shards of stained glass as the wish mark emerges. At this point, they lose the dream mark and gain all of Azami's other marks at once, regardless of their cooldowns or current application limit. This mark takes an intense amount of concentration to manifest and cannot be applied during combat, thus, the mark has the cooldown of the entire fight (or thread) even if it expires without use.
Limits Much like her other marks, If Azami is incapacitated by methods not involving sleep while anyone other than herself is marked, they lose the mark. Additionally, those within her sanctuary are only able to see the events within the dreamspace. Meaning, they are completely unable to physically or spiritually interact with anybody outside of her sanctuary until the wish mark timer runs out. If Azumi is incapacitated while a wish mark is recovering within her sanctuary, they will be immediately ejected without gaining any of her marks.
Somnum Finalé - Support - 800 Reiatsu + Drawback
Azami gathers every last drop of the Reiatsu from her inner sanctuary and her own soul to turn every drop into a healing butterfly. Coalescing into a giant mass in the mouth of her sanctuary guardian dragon, an all-encompassing typhoon of butterflies is exhaled into the entirety of the sky above her dreamspace. In the same moment, all of her friendly allies within the dreamspace (meaning having entered into its area of effect or having been healed by any one of her butterflies) are bombarded with light-exploding butterflies. The whole affair, in its entirety, shares appearance with a fireworks show. This amount of healing is equivalent to an entire amount of life force for each person healed each post for two posts total. This technique requires one post to charge up, and immediately consumes most of her Reiatsu once healing beings. This healing cannot be blocked by anything other than abilities that complete nullify Reiatsu in their entirety. Once healing ends, her Bankai is sealed and her Zanpaktu cannot be reactivated for use until the thread (or battle) is over. The amount of Reiatsu she is left with is enough to remain a Shinigami, but not enough to have any other effective use in combat until the cooldown requirements are met.
Limits If Azami is interrupted while charging her final dream, the technique enters its cooldown with minimal Reiatsu consumption. Only her Bankai remains sealed for the duration of this cooldown. Azami requires protection while casting and after casting this finale. Channeling this spell removes any buffs or marks applied to her. Azami cannot contribute to a fight after using this technique.

History:
Azumi was always an imaginative child. She was the girl in class that could draw, the girl in class that loved reading, that kind of thing. Even so, she still loved playing with dolls and even the odd game of sports. There wasn't much she didn't have the energy for as a child, the only thing she didn't favor was eating her vegetables and actually going to school in the first place. She made friends quite easily in elementary school, her social skills encouraged by her parents who had enrolled her in a preschool. It seemed as though she had plenty of energy for the rest of the life that awaited her beyond elementary school. Her grades were good in class, until they weren't. After a particularly rough set of tests and quizzes, her parents had an interview with her teacher. While she was present for the interview, she didn't remember much from it aside from being tired. In this interview, her parents learned that Azumi was sleeping through class, daydreaming and generally just lacking energy.
Her mother, Uemura was surprised to hear this. She knew her daughter had been very tired in the mornings, but who wasn't? Even after school her daughter was fatigued though, from what she recalled. But wasn't this normal? At the end of the day though, it wasn't really that big of a deal considering she was still in elementary school and this wasn't the first time the teacher had dealt with students who slept in class. Like usual, the teacher reccomended that they make sure she is not getting up in the middle of the night, that sort of thing. And so the next day, child Azumi found herself being watched as she tucked herself into bed. Her mother, curiously, watched her from a rocking chair. She swayed in that chair, gazing over her child's bed until she was sure that Azumi slept. She did, in fact, sleep. Both that night and the next day in class Azumi slept soundly. And then the next day, continuing on for a week before another meeting.
This time, they recommended her for medical and psychological evaluation. Azumi was never afraid of doctors or needles, but it's not like she enjoyed being pricked and prodded like any other kid. They drew blood, took samples, attached electrodes, anything to help find a cause that her sleep was being disrupted. It eventually boiled down to them making wild guesses and prescribing all of them as possible diagnoses. Thyroid, autoimmune, tumor, diet, diabetes, none of these words were anything that Azumi could actually understand, but even as a kid, she could understand the reaction on the face of her parents that cold day in the emergency clinic. It was one of the first things she was taught about her condition, that it upset her parents and made them feel bad. Azumi didn't want that, she didn't want to make her parents sad.
With the various diagnoses and no solutions prescribed, because it was completely possible that this would pass in a month or so given her age, she continued into middle school. The trend continued, sleeping in class and sleeping during the night. Naturally, she was teased by her peers for it, but she was normally too lethargic to really care that much. Sure, it reddened her cheeks, but it would have done so for anybody in her position. Most people would be embarrassed after being woken up on their desk. Her teachers were somewhat okay with it. Generally, they didn't believe her or her parents when they were first informed. They usually came around once they saw the narcolepsy in work.
Her parents quickly grew concerned again when her teachers weren't able to wake her. She was around 16 at the time when she first lost consciousness. It was a normal day. Normal breakfast, normal bus ride, normal classes, and normal sleeping during said classes. Towards the end of the day though, once the bell rang, she remained with her head slouched onto her desk. From what she could make out half-asleep, her teacher was reading aloud a book set in a fantasy universe with magic, dragons and kings. Her favorite type of story, ever since she was little. Thankfully, she was never the type of girl to drool in her sleep. If she was, her life would probably be a lot different up until this point. It was her English teacher, on that day, who tried to wake her, only to shriek in horror when her head slid from the desk. Naturally, since she had somehow lost consciousness, gravity sent her tumbling out of her chair and onto the tiled floor. At least she wasn't dead, as her teacher had thought.
Autoimmune disorder, a specialist eventually told her. Now that she was old enough to understand what that meant, she understood that her body was attacking something in her brain that influenced her consciousness. That was the extend to which she understood. The only other thing thing she understood from the lecture was that is was progressive with no cure. She would die, she learned on that day in the doctors office. With this diagnosis, many other appointments were made. Grief counselling, therapy, experimental gene therapy, blood therapy. Anything to help her recover. But it never did, and as the doctor had promised, her illness progressed.
Days passed, months passed, each spent with her more asleep than awake. Azumi lost weight, a lot of weight, quickly too. Her muscles atrophied and other symptoms of being bed-ridden began to emerge. At first, she was fine with being taken out of school. More time to do what she loved before she would die. Lots of times for her to read her books, lots of time for her to watch her shows. When they needed to put in a feeding tube, Azumi had a problem. She wasn't eating much of anything anymore. Acid reflux burned her esophagus beyond ever developing a natural appetite. Feeding tubes required sedation, she was told. It made sense, having a tube down her throat would probably cause her significant discomfort. She'd be awake for the most of it, from what she was told, but not able to feel the tube.
Her family stopped visiting her in the hospital. It was unbearable for their parents to see the intense sight of their suffering daughter. It's not as though she could feel herself suffering though. Bones protruded through skin, red rashes covered her skin. Sponge baths left little to be desired. None of the nutrition was sticking, from what she could hardly make out through the drug-induced high. She was still losing weight. Azumi wasn't in her right mind though, and so she didn't really mind. She didn't like her room though, even under the drugs strong influence. The room was her prison, the only thing she could explore from her bedside was the sight of a neglected dying garden right outside her window.
The sedative caused mild to severe hallucinations. It's not as though she minded. She would take any of the company she could get at this point. The dragon from her books visited her at her bedside, curling up with her in her hospital bed. She looked out into the once-dead garden and suddenly saw a living butterfly garden. Colors beyond any of the brightest pigments of the television danced before her eyes. The moon shattered with stained glass. Where there was once death, there was now life. It made her wonder, then, if perspective really was the key to optimism. They were going to unplug her, from what she could hear, and she didn't mind. She saw the dancing butterflies and green dragon even after waking up in soul society. Heaven wasn't as bad as she thought.
Suddenly, she found herself able to walk. Found herself able to explore again. And she was hungry, so hungry, she finally wanted to eat, but there was no food to be found. This wasn't heaven, she soon found out, she would suffer in soul society too. But there was a patrol, one that stopped her in her midst of digging at the dirt. They were going to make fun of her, for that, but stopped when they saw the blades of grass hanging from her mouth. She didn't care at that point, she just wanted to eat again on her own accord.
They promised her food at the Academy. She promised her servitude.
