Menos forest. It was a place of evolution. One in which Hollows of all shapes and sizes were and devoured on another. In truth, it was a place of cruelty and selfishness. The Menos roamed, unintelligent and large only seeking to dominate the souls that composed their large bodies. As such they often lumbered around until a single consciousness went ahead and wrestled control from the rest. Above all else, Hollows truly feared a single aspect of their life. That was regression.
In the distance, several adjuchas could be found not only talking with one another, but devouring parts of other Hollows. Contrary to popular belief, there was a brutal gang system within the Menos forest. Factions of sorts would arise and war against one another as Hollows got into groups to help with their survival, but even groups were dangerous in some ways. As they continued to talk, a dark mist seemed to be coiling around each one of them. Not making much of it and thinking it to be the vapors of a decaying Hollow, they continued on.
It was then that little lumps began forming on their skins. What were these? They were like extensions of their skin, but it oddly seemed to not be natural in nature. Could Hollows even get sick? A little concerned, they now huddled into a group as there was a burst of reiatsu as they all screamed. Their flesh was beginning to become rattled with pustules, sores and more. Soon each one succumed from the sickness inside of them. Who could have caused this? Even yet, what could cause such devastating biological horror? For a time, nobody would know.
The Halls of Las Noches were empty. Yet it seemed that trouble was afoot. Little rips in time could be found within Hueco Mundo. It became such a high interest that Souzen had summoned Kazuna to the throne room of Las Noches. As Kazuna walked their, the Espada thought about what awaited him. Kazuna just wanted to continue studying. It was a little hobby of his that he took up. He enjoyed collecting information of all manner of anatomy. There was something in specific that interested him.
Many of his scrolls detailed the time of Yersinia pestis also known as the Black Death. After ruminating on it, Kazuna began to realize that the lumps that he created on others skins were very reminiscent of the swollen lymph nodes or "buboes" as they would be come to be known as. Was there some type of connection between his set of skills the brutal black death. He was not sure, but one thing was sure. As he stood in front of the massive doors, they opened ever so slowly and as Kazuna walked in, they closed shut.
As Kazuna entered this throne room it was an interesting change of pace. In fact, there was only one other time he had ever been in here. Kazuna and Adolf were tasked to track down a rogue Arrancar to threatened the very sanctum of Las Noches itself. Unfortunately it never amount to much and the Arrancar still has not destroyed Las Noches so Kazuna just assumed everything was fine. Either way, as he came close to the large throne, he looked up and their sat Souzen. Kazuna was never the type to kneel and he waited for his orders.
The rogue Shinigami of Soul Society was certainly interesting to Kazuna. He seemed to swear no allegiance to his former alive and took up the mantle of the King of Las Noches. As such, he spoke with incredible power alone. "Ah. You've finally arrived Noveno Espada. I have a task for you..." The King of Las Noches leaned forward a little bit. "There have been these spacial rifts popping up around Hueco Mundo. I want you to find the one responsible for them and kill them in my name. I caution you though. These rifts seem not only spacial, but temporal in nature..."
The Noveno Espada raised an eyebrow. He had a minor understanding of what Souzen was saying, but he chuckled. "So you are saying that someone or something is creating rifts that distort not only space, but also time...Interesting." With a bow, Kazuna proceeded to leave. It was then that he heard Souzen, but it was almost like his voice boomed. "This mission may be of personal interest to you. I have the...sense that whoever is involved may have a relation to you in the past." The Noveno Espada gave the King an odd look and headed off without another word.
As Kazuna headed out to one of the windows that dotted all of Las Noches, he looked out into the bright day. Yet the Espada knew it all an illusion and dropped down into the White Desert of Hueco Mundo. As day quickly became night, Kazuna just landed in the sand and sighed. With great speed, the Arrancar ran off as his small figure began to grow even smaller and tinier when viewed from the imposing height of the Fortress known simply as Las Noches.
As he ran for a time, it have him time to think and get his thoughts together. There was very little that Kazuna actually knew about his past. It was not the greatest of pasts and he just remembers a lot of death. Hell, he doesn't even really know anything about his time as a Hollow. It was all...blurry. Very little of it actually made sense. He would soon be taken out of his thoughts as he noted minor rumbling in the sand. This was often normal as frequent sandstorms would strip flesh from bone in the White Desert, but this would be quite different.
As Kazuna felt the ground shift, a Hollow very similar to the appearance of a worm rose from the sand. With blinding speed, the worm with its maw open right under the Hollow mask tried to rush Kazuna down. The Noveno Espada did not take an attack like this lightly and infact simply rose his hand and spoke barely above a whisper. "Cero.." It was then that a purple-colored ball of reiatsu arose on the Espada's hand as the Hollow was soon engulfed by this Cero, getting almost incinerated by it.
It seems that Kazuna's luck was not all that great as the Hollow reared back and roared as the sand split open into a sinkhole of sorts. As Kazuna began to try and get out, he found that it was exceedingly difficult to move. Being that there was no true solid ground to walk on, the Espada found that a Sonido would not be all that effective. All they he could do is wait and brace for impact once he and the Hollow slipped through the sand and began falling. All that Kazuna felt next was a thud and then darkness.
As the Espada's admittedly blurry vision began to come to, the darkness was lifted and Kazuna noticed this place immediately. It was Menos Forest. It had been a good while ever since Kazuna had showed his face here. Looking around, his weapon was still on his back, but something was off. The Hollow was missing with a trail of blood leading away. The Espada knew the way out of here, but what was odd was that the Hollow was engulfed by the Cero he had fired prior. It shouldn't have been able to survive, let alone move.
Out of some morbid sense of curiosity, Kazuna made the choice to follow this trail. Perhaps it would lead him to his mission. As he began to walk, he noticed that it was a path of little resistance. The combination of his mask, the number on his back, the clothing he wore and his Zanpakutou made it clear to any Adjuchas that may have been nearby the identity of Kazuna. While it is true that Hollows were normally hell bent on eating everything, Adjuchas knew better than to mess with one of the Espada.
It was not long until Kazuna ended up right in front of a cave. This cave was an interesting one. The outside of the cave curved inwarded to its mouth and there were blood stains all around it. Kazuna knew something like this far too well. It was like a feeding ground. Yet despite this, the Espada would head into this cave. The pitch black entrance was not very heart-warming, but he had to continue. He had to understand what was going on. It was in his nature to understand more.
In Kazuna's room within Las Noches, scattered around the walls and such were all manner of philosophy, anatomical books, just all kinds of literature that would fit right into a historical library. Over the years, Kazuna has garnered an interest in his past. To understand it better, he would look into all manner of literature to see if there were connections between his past and who he is now. It really made him a lot like a scholar. Someone who would do their best to get to the bottom of things.
With more important things at hand, Kazuna would continue into this cave, he would hear the sound of movement. Rustling and so on. It seemed to occur all around him, but he did not care too much. He just continued on as he found a little campfire in the middle of a room. Almost appearing to be a dead end, he could feel something past the campfire. It was at the end of the room. If Kazuna paid close enough attention, they could see small distortions. It was an anomaly that Kouhai had talked about.
Just as he stepped forth, he noticed something on the ground. It was the scattered bones of Hollows, but more than that, there were husks. These husks were not entirely normal, however. They were not only rotting, but the actual skin of the these victims was covered in buboes. Kazuna knew these far too well. Not unlike the ones created by himself in Resurreccion, Kazuna just raised an eyebrow. It seemed someone else had similar abilities to him, but who?Who could it be?
Just as Kazuna continued onward, he would hear a sudden Sonido. Whoever did it was quick as someone quickly barreled against Kazuna. Unsure of who it was, his vision rather blurry from the hit, Kazuna looked up. It was a woman with a katana. Wait...a Zanpakutou? Not just that, she had mask fragments on the top of her head. It was an Arrancar. Kazuna spat up a bit of blood from the hit, but his voice filled with poison resonated within the cave. "Arrancar. I am Kazuna Hashiro of the Espada. Identify yourself."
Yet despite this proclamation, Kazuna could only hear chuckling from the woman. Admittedly he did not recognize her. Her voice was cold yet gentle. It sounded...familiar. "Oh dearest Kasuna. I know exactly who you are. I am downright heartbroken that you have forgotten me..." Kazuna was so confused. This woman claimed to know him? And apparently he knew her? The Espada shook his head and growled. "What the hell! I don't know who you are." The woman would frown and draw her Zanpakutou.
Kazuna seeing now other alternative sighed and simply took his Zanpakutou from his back. He was about to end this as he began to speak. "Rot and de-" Before he had a chance, this other Arrancar quickly slammed into him, exclaiming. "You won't be rid of me that easily!" Through their tustling and so on, Kazuna and the nameless Arrancar ended up around the anomaly. It seemed that the woman was having an effect on it as they heard a shriek. The anomaly suddenly expanded and engulfed both Arrancar as they atleast from an outside perspective would disappear.
The two Arrancar ended up in a forest. Both were passed out, but they began stirring to consciousness. This was so bizzare to Kazuna. He was an Espada and this woman could match him. Granted, Kazuna's power was really in his release and this woman seemed to know that. Could she really know him that well. As Kazuna got up, this woman seemed to get up as well. The Espada would look at her and she would look at him with poison in her look. She spoke. "How..how could you forget me..?"
This remark admittedly made Kazuna raise an eyebrow. Where did he know her from. It was then that he noticed a village nearby. Ignoring her, he walked to it as it seemed familiar. It was then that he noticed. This was...Germany. Not just any place though. It was where he grew up, but something was different. The technology was more primitive. It seemed that this was Kazuna's home. In the past when he was alive! The Espada could not believe it and turned to the woman, glaring.
He spoke with anger and hatred. "Why!?! Why are we here? What do you know about this place?!" The woman just shook her head and disappeared her sword drawn, she could try to cut down Kazuna, but he blocked it rather easily. It was odd. Her former killing intent was not there. In fact, he seemed to be able to see sorrow in her eyes. What was going on!? Yet despite all this, she began pushing his feet into the ground. It seemed that her strength was greater than his own.
As she kept pushing him, it eventually made Kazuna drop to one knee. He was being pushed down and his Hierro was not helping all too much. He was at this girl's mercy and her Zanpakutou was dangerously close to his head. Just one more push and she could kill him, but she eased up. In fact, she quickly removed the force she was placing into Kazuna and withdrew her Zanpakutou. The Arrancar looked at him with...tears in her eyes. She genuinely seemed sad.
The woman sighed and shook her head. "Do you really not remember me Kasuna. Has it been so long that you would forget your family??" Kazuna blinked rather rapidly. "Family...? Just who are you exactly?" The Arrancar would walk up to him without her Zanpakutou drawn and simply hug him tightly. This was a sensation he had not felt in a long time. "Kasuna...it's me. Eleana. Your elder sister.." The Espada's eyes would widen. Could this really be Eleana? She died when Kazuna was very young after all.
The Espada pulled away and leaned against a tree. "How...how could you be here. You died so young Eleana. How are you here now? What is all this about?" Eleana would give him a look. It seems that he has accepted her identity and she smiled. "I did die early on Kasuna. But...I've always ben around. Watching you. After mother and father died, I took special care to look after you. But...eventually my regret took over me. I became a Hollow." It seemed that Eleana's expression became darker.
She continued. "When I did, I killed some of our townfolks Kasuna. I couldn't help myself and one day...I came across you. I was going to devour you, but...my love for you, as my younger sibling stopped me. As the Hollow suppressed somewhat though, it tried to fight back and you died...from the power I wielded.." Kazuna in fact remembered how he died. It was the time he was taking a walk in the forest and a horrible sickness over came him. He just thought it was the black death. The dangerous disease that began its slaughter all across Europe.
Kazuna trembled at the thought. "Are you telling me, sister. You wield the power of plague too..?" Eleana just nodded and sighed. "That is how you died Kasuna. I killed you by complete accident and I...have had this feeling of lingering regret. You ended up here because of me...you wield the incomplete power that I've cursed you with.." Kazuna just tilted his head. "Incomplete power, Eleana, what do you mean?" The other Arrancar would sigh and shake her head.
She spoke with less firmness in her voice as though she was about to break down. "Kasuna...when my plague took your life, it left an imprint on the plus that remained. You wield a part of it, but not all of it. I am still the dominant aspect of our power Kasuna, but that can change..." Kazuna was listening carefully, but the last part of her statement illicited concern. What did she mean by change? Did she have a plan. Granted and this was a better question, what ties did she have to these anomalies.
Kazuna proceeded to ask all that was on his mind. About her ties to these weird rifts, what she meant and so forth. Eleana just gave in to his questions and answered. "These anomalies just began occurring naturally. It gave me the clairvoyance to understand what I needed to do. My goal is to right a wrong. I missed you Kasuna. I wanted you to see me so we could be siblings again, but I realize that is impossible. You are an Espada and I am an Arrancar of the Menos Forest. I have no desire to serve Kouhai, but there is something we can do."
Kazuna gave her an odd and questioning look. What did she mean by all of this. "What are you looking to do sister? What plan do you have?" She looked at him with a smile and hugged him. She pointed at an anomaly that was forming near them. "This anomaly will do what we need it to do. It distorts space and time, but it also partly distorts the soul. I wish to..give you my power Kasuna." This was certainly something new to the Espada who just looked at her with confusion.
The Arrancar blinked at his sister and sighed. "What result will that have on you Eleana?" The Espada's sister just smiled. "We would for all intents and purposes fuse. The Arrancar who would walk out of that anomaly would be neither you Kasuna nor like me. It would be something else, but I am willing to take that chance if it means that you and I will not be alone anymore..." Kazuna looked at her at first with confusion, but he soon understand what she wanted. She wanted to be together with her sibling even if it meant both of them would give up their being.
Before they held one another's hand, both of the Arrancar looked upon their past. It was then that each of them saw their past respective self. A younger Kazuna running around and Eleana with her Chain of Fate still in tact watching him. It was with this they both walked through the anomaly. It seemed that as they did so willingly this time, the two of them would feel their soul began to synchronize. It was an odd sensation, but it seemed as though the two were merging.
It seemed that there was truth to what Eleana had said. What emerged from the anomaly was not both of them, but something so much more. A hissing serpentine sound could be heard. Out from this rift came a wyvern-like creature with blackened scales and a beautiful purple fur-like cloak that seemed to cover its body. With impressive speed, this Wyvern erupted from the Cavern. The 15 ft long creature looked up at Menos forest and simply screeched. The screech was like a wail of agony.
As it unfurled its wings, it rose up to the canopy and with claws as sharp as daggers began to dig its way through the sand. As it broke through, only something similar to an eruption could be heard as the sand bursted and out came this Wyvern. In some ways, the appearance of this wyvern was beautiful with the color of its fur reflecting the moonlight yet at the same time it was menacing. Suddenly a group of Hollows erupted, attracted to the ferocity of this creature.
It seems that these Hollows were of the territorial type, looking for a quick meal. It was with a growl that a miasma similiar to a fine mist erupted from the scales and fur. The Hollows did not think much of it until the significantly weaker Hollows began to wail. They flesh began grow pustules, blood would erupt from them and each one of them would fall to the ground, dead with struck with disease about as quick as they had arrived. It seemed that despite this impressive display, the creature did not feast. In fact, it seems that the power it wielded was beginning to stabilize. As this happened, it shrunk and became far more humanoid.
What arose from the shell of the wyvern was in fact an Arrancar that looked different. Black long and fine hair, farer skin and brown eyes with a fairer build. This Arrancar seemed to have a far more androgynous look. Donned in the typical Espada gear, they looked around to get a sense of surrounding. On their hip was a katana with a jade-colored hilt and a pearl white blade. It was very beautiful and with this, they stumbled back to Las Noches to report to Kouhai about the situation.
While Kouhai waited, he would note that the doors would open once more. He spoke with amusement. "Oh. I was expecting you. I hope you were successful then?" As this new Arrancar walked in, Kouhai actually leaned forward with amusement. This is something he did not expect. As King of Las Noches, he had an understanding of how things operated in his realm. With a silky voice, the Arrancar spoke. "Yes Lord Kouhai. I have indeed eradicated the anomaly. It and the people involved should be of no concern."
The King of Las Noches had an idea of what happened and chuckled. "Very well. You are free to return to your quarters my dear Espada." As this mystery Arrancar bowed and was about to walk out, Kouhai stopped them. "Before you leave...may I have a name?" The Arrancar simply mulled it over and just chuckled. "Ailene Hashiro. The Noveno Espada." Kouhai smiled and just let them continue. With that, the Arrancar now reborn as Ailene would continue on to their quarters.
In the distance, several adjuchas could be found not only talking with one another, but devouring parts of other Hollows. Kazuna in fact remembered how he died.
