Physical Description:Ladd's appearance is that of great contrast when compared to most of his Quincy peers. While most Quincy may prefer to maintain their youth, beauty, and overall pure aesthetic, Ladd doesn't care for such. Instead, Lad could often be seen unkempt, a look that could best describe vagrants only without soot and grease. He is often found to be the odd one of the bunch, with a mere glance, one may be able to pick him out of a crowd especially with his towering height of six-foot-ten. Though many may find Ladd to appear much shorter than his stated height, taking his stance into consideration, as his back is often in a forward arch and his shoulders slumped. His build is undeniably slender, although, much like his peers, constant training and combat experience did harden the man, giving him his fair share of muscle to fortify his body.
It is also noteworthy of how long and lanky his appendages may seem at first glance, even with lengthy observations. Naturally slender, Ladd appears to be akin to that of a dead, leafless tree, especially with his arms outstretched. His fingers almost seem to be unnaturally long, slender as sticks. A sight of his fingernails might shock most, for on top of being unkempt and long, it is dark, almost dead and rotting in appearance. Though do not fret for it is simply black nail polish, something he's quite fond of using to complete his strangely ghoulish aesthetic.
His hair doesn't really follow a certain style or look, for Ladd, the mere idea of styling his hair is already tedious as it is. His black, shoulder-length hair is kept uncombed, spread around in tangles, akin to a clutter of spiders nesting on his head. Little to no care had been given to his hair, causing for split ends and dry locks to be scattered about. Albeit being well bathed at the regular, his hair, for whatever unexplained reason, does appear to be constantly dry and moist all at the same time; quite the riddle, and is viewed by many as one of life's many unsolved mysteries. As for facial hair, Ladd has his beard styled into that of a goatee. Unlike his hair up top, Ladd's goatee is evidently cared for and styled as he does shave his mustache and any excess beard that may grow, maintaining a nice, even look for his facial hair.
His pair of cold, charcoal colored eyes appear to be constantly blank, aloof, and seemingly implicative of disinterest, however, a single gaze could strike an individual with inexplicable unease. Dark bags had also formed under his eyes from countless sleepless nights he had to pass, adding much to his ghoulish aesthetic. His upper eyelashes are also quite long and prominent, almost feminine for a man and is often the only physical feature of him to ever garner any praise, most coming from women. His eyebrows are rather thin, though more often than not, they are kept hidden behind his long, shaggy hair which covers even his eyes at times.
Lower down his face is his nose, centered on his face right where it's supposed to be; long and pointed down rather than outward, seemingly chiseled albeit being slightly crooked near the center of its bridge. Below this would be his mouth. His lips are quite sickly, grayish even, perhaps caused by his habitual smoking; thin and usually dry, prone to cracking as he would rarely hydrate enough. His teeth are also yellow with tar, perhaps caused by his frequent smoking, yet again. One might also notice his tongue to be covered in white film, often dry as he would rarely even speak. Though despite the look and condition of his mouth, he keeps his teeth free from any cavity and his breath fresh and fragrant, completely void of halitosis, with his every breath releasing the prominent smell of mint and a hint of tea.
Aside from the smell of mint and tea, one thing notable when Ladd is speaking is his accent. A faint, though notable, German accent could be heard on certain words. His voice is airy, in a way that one might expect for a slothful, airheaded person to speak; sounding calm and collected in virtually any situation.
Despite Ladd's utter disregard for his physical appearance, most surprisingly, Ladd is one of, if not, the most fragrant Quincy amongst those in Vandenreich. If there is one thing he would keep in constant check, that would be his smell. One might say that his mere presence alone might overpower even the nastiest of surrounding odors. Ladd keeps himself well bathed and fragrant at all times despite his outward appearance might say otherwise. A prominent smell of cotton candy could be identified should one take a whiff of the immediate area surrounding Ladd, a sweet, fragrant scent that is always left in his trail.
As for clothing, Ladd prefers formality, even his casual clothing is mainly composed of suits and slacks, with styles notably inspired by clothing from the 19th century. As part of the Vandenreich, Ladd could more often than not be seen in his white uniform, though if it were him, he would've gone with black. Ladd wears a white tailcoat variation of their uniform, and unlike regular tailcoats, the tail end of his coat is just as long as that of the standard Vandenreich long coat, its length ending approximately at the middle portion of his shin and without the slit along the middle. At the end of each sleeve on his coat are two silver cufflinks, one on top of the other, with a design of the five-pronged cross of the Vandenreich emblem and is about the same size as the coat's buttons. When worn, Ladd always buttons up the coat shut, its slim fit emphasizing his slender physique even more.
On his neck is his white hunting stock tie, a rather peculiar choice and certainly only seen commonly on images of old. His hunting stock tie is a tad bit longer than the usual, though tattered and raggedy. Another peculiar choice is his top hat, to match the uniform, Ladd's top hat is also of the same white identical to the rest of his ensemble. Haphazardly wrapped around the top hat just above its brim is a stip of cloth, presumably of the same make as his stock tie and is just as tattered as it is.
For what's underneath his coat, Ladd chose to take the usual high-neck undershirt aside and went with his preferred high-collar formal shirt to properly set his hunting tie in place with its sleeves cut only a few inches short of his overcoat's sleeves. Its thin cloth is breathable through and through which helps avert from too much sweating and to prevent any nasty odor from accumulating as per Ladd's preference.
When out on his own and free from any of his duties as part of the Vandenreich, not much could be seen changed from his clothing choice aside from the obvious color; his white overcoat, top hat, slacks, and shoes are all altered to black as per his personal preference in color. As it is his preferred style, he does own a few identical suits, and notable from his clothing choice, it could easily be inferred that Ladd does indeed have the knack for formality and flair.
Personality
Dislikes:
• Noise: Noise of any kind is more than enough to annoy Ladd. As a man who prefers peace and quiet over anything else in life, noise or any form of audible chaos could only be considered as his greatest antithesis. It's not only loud, deafening noise that could irritate him but unpleasant and mildly uncomfortable sounds as well such as loud chewing. Should you see him cringe from hearing whatever noise it is that you're making, it's best to simply stop and think of what you've done.
• Heat: Heat, particularly with weather, could only be described by Ladd as uncomfortable and dreary. While many might see the heat as an opportunity to hit the beach or tan at the poolside, Ladd would rather lay at home with his fan kept on steady, directed at him with a small bowl of ice in front of it for cold air. Aside from that, he could also be seen sticking his head on the freezer.
• Hollows: A hollow is the antithesis for a Quincy, the very thing that could poison and corrupt them for good, the very reason he had been trained for his powers. Naturally, Ladd would despise such beings. As a Quincy, it is his duty to fight back against the threat of hollows, mindless monsters hellbent on destruction and consumption of innocent souls. Such despicable creatures indeed.
• Incompetence: A show of incompetence would simply cause shame upon you and whatever it is you represent as being unable to perform whatever you're expected to is simply laughable and pitiful. It's as if a Quincy is unable to use a bow, simply put, those who can't execute whatever they're meant for are just as useful as bricks are.
• Stupidity: There's ignorance and then there's stupidity. Ignorance he may tolerate, for the most part, ignorant people simply require assistance and information. However, a true idiot is utterly irredeemable. Ladd just couldn't stand working with someone dumb as rocks, as though babysitting fully grown adults; it simply eats away on his patience to deal with something as such.
• Waste: Waste in general; waste of food, time, or talent, a few examples of waste that he truly hates most. Wasting something is just unfortunate, giving him that the feeling of regret everyone shares should something of such be wasted. Aside from that, actual garbage waste is also something he's not fond of, mainly for its putrid stench.
• Dogs: Say what you may, Ladd is simply not a dog person; he may garner some disapproval for his view of such a beloved animal but that's just his preference and opinion. Dogs are far too rambunctious for him, too messy, noisy, and exceedingly high maintenance. The mere idea of owning a dog as his own pet already seems too much unnecessary work for him.
• Children: Children, again, are far too rambunctious. He couldn't make up his mind whether dogs are akin to children, or are children akin to dogs. He couldn't deal with them no matter how hard he may try. Not only actual children but also those who are childish, grown adults acting and thinking like children; those could surely irritate him on a far bigger extent.
• Meetings: Professional meetings and the likes to be precise. Such a waste of time, really, he couldn't even be bothered to show up at one for even a few minutes. What he'd rather do, however, is wait till the meeting was over, ask a fellow participant of said meeting who, unlike him, actually went and get everything they have discussed to be summarized for him in a minute or so.
• Arrogance: To be humble is a sign of good upbringing, to be arrogant is simply a sign of compensation. Arrogance, especially those that are largely unbacked with proof and actual show, is something Ladd would simply laugh at albeit being wholly irritated. Why show arrogance when you can prove yourself with your action?
• Disarray: Chaos and disorder, not exactly in terms of what war and conflict may cause but more of the unplanned, disorganized, and haphazard aspect of it. He couldn't stand individuals who go in and are totally clueless of what they're doing, completely disregarding the planning process of things. Or people unable to follow well-made plans, only to disrupt everything on a meticulously crafted strategy.
• Judgement: Judgement from those in no right to judge, particularly, and judgemental people. Simply put, who are you to judge? If he wanted judgment from something he'll go ask for one, wrongfully judging individuals based on initial impressions and outward appearance is outright irritating and an inexcusable act.
• Commands: Orders, specifically from those in no position to hand him commands; individuals that are either lower, or equal, to him in rank. Being ordered around by low ranked individuals, or people outside of Vandenreich is simply annoying, making him compelled to put them on their proper place by means of outright showing what and who he is. Though while he wouldn't enjoy being commanded by people of the same rank as his, he wouldn't hesitate to follow should he find it beneficial for him and his cause.
• Delusion: Delusional individuals really do need a good whopping to snap them out of their fantasies and back to reality. Delusion is nothing but unhealthy and a form of deception to oneself, a fallacy of what could be. Ladd, very much, is a grounded person; sensible and knows what he can and cannot attain. Seeing and hearing people aiming to surpass god simply warrants them a shake of Ladd's head.
• Intrusion: Intrusion, to be specific, intrusion of his privacy. Ladd, for many, is a mysterious man; kept mostly to himself and rarely ever divulging any information about himself. Naturally, unwanted intrusion to his private life is completely unwanted and grants for justifiable wrath upon the intruder in question.
Likes:
• Silence: Silence, please. If he had the chance to live on a library he'd take the opportunity, no questions asked. Ladd enjoys the calm, soothing tone of silence, with the only noise there is being that of nature; chirping birds, flowing water, truly a serene ambiance.
• Cold: Ladd is fond of cold temperatures, regardless of how ice cold it may be. He'd take the cold over heat anytime, as with cold, he can adjust. He could warm himself up easily, as dealing with heat takes more of an effort. After all, the Quincy are fond of ice castles and temples for bases, it's only natural for a Quincy like him to be more accustomed to such temperatures.
• Snow: Seeing everything covered in a film of white snows makes a place seem almost like a whole new area entirely. The snow had always been fascinating for Ladd, the sound of the gentle pattering of snow as it falls to the ground is always a soothing tone. Aside from its pleasant aesthetics, the cold temperature accompanied by any snowy day is also quite pleasant.
• Rain: Rain, specifically when he's indoors, is always pleasing. The gloomy yet calming atmosphere brought upon by the rain is truly to die for. Ladd takes the opportunity to lie down and relax by the window during rainy days, listening to calm, relaxing music as the pitter-pattering of rain fills the background.
• Cats: Unlike dogs, cats are much less on the wild side. With a preference towards calmer, peaceful things, if asked to nab a pet, a cat would most definitely be his choice. Aside from being less rambunctious, cats are also smaller, more adorable than large dogs with the additional benefit of pest control against mice and rats.
• Pastries: While it may not seem like it, Ladd is quite an exceptional baker and patissier. Naturally, being good at making them, Ladd enjoys consuming them just the same. Sweet pastries and baked goodies are all-time favorites of his, often best paired with his choice of hot beverage of either tea or coffee
• Candies: His sweet tooth may not be evident at first sight, though what makes it undeniable is his liking for pastries, candies, and pretty much anything sweet. Candy, especially mint and bubblegum, is something he'd be usually seen snacking on when out on the field. Though despite how much candy and sugar he may consume, he keeps his teeth free from cavities and toothaches; another mystery for many.
• Coffee: Of any hot beverage, tea and coffee is his go to, though he's more inclined with coffee than anything else. He likes his coffee sweet, with plenty of sugar and a good portion of either cream or milk. Not only is coffee a good beverage whether it's hot or cold, it is also a great source of energy.
• Power: He's quite fond of what power he had been given, though, like many, he could be quite insatiable. Craving for more, to be stronger, better than he already is, making himself his own motivation for improvement. Suffice to say, He's more than thankful to have such power and to be in power as part of the Vandenreich.
• Knowledge: He's inquisitive by nature, curious and thirsty for knowledge. If there's he's yet to know, he'll be sure to do his research. With his long quest for knowledge and information, a plethora of various things had already garnered his fascination. And as they used to say, knowledge is power, and indeed it is.
• Control: To be in control is to be in power. Nothing is enjoyed more by Ladd than being in control. Being in control allows him to effectively and efficiently coordinate everything, making everyone follow his meticulous plans, to perfectly organize everything to his liking. Other than that, being in control of any situation, especially on bouts, can give you a significant edge, a massive advantage against those who oppose.
• Planning: The preparation phase. To him, planning is everything, the most enjoyable part of any situation followed by the actual execution of his plans. It can give him insights and ideas and could definitely grant him the advantage over anything so long he has a plan. Once everything is executed according to plan, it grants him great pleasure, euphoric almost, to know that everything worked out.
• Technology: He could remember time without much for technology, time of little luxury and ease. Nowadays, with modern technology, not much is impossible. Long distance communication, portable web browsing, video games; a luxury to be blessed with such technological advancements indeed.
• Chess: A game of wits and planning. Ladd enjoys chess very much so as it does emulate a battlefield and, as the game would require, impromptu planning. Chess is a great way to practice and exercise one's mind and is a game he just couldn't endorse enough.
• Rest: Lazing around, doing only what he wants to, no job, no fights, just staying in bed, or having little tea parties with pastries and milk tea. When given time to himself, Ladd makes the most out of it.
Flaws:
• Uninterested: Perhaps the biggest hindrance for him to attain his promotion. Infamous for being the hidden captain, hidden as he would rarely attend important Sternritter meetings, avoid trivial tasks captains are expected to do, and be pretty much overshadowed by his flashier, more extravagant peers. No matter how hard his fellow captains, or even higher-ups, may stress how important it is to do his more trivial duty aside from partaking in combat; Ladd simply won't care. He's simply uninterested with work his mere underlings could easily do.
• OCD: Obsessive-compulsive disorder. It's not as simple as being meticulous with symmetry, no, that's nothing but mild. Ladd has a set of 'rituals' he has to follow on his day to day basis; he has to brush his teeth with a certain amount of strokes, paint his nails black, knock this many times before entering doors, and much more. There are certain things and actions that he'll religiously do while there are things he simply couldn't care much for. Normally, breaking his schedule and regular routine could easily send him spiraling into chaos bit by bit.
• Prideful: One might not think so at first as he is often humble overy everything else, but Ladd sure is prideful, particularly on his meticulously crafted plans and bright ideas. For someone to claim the ineffectiveness of his own plans and ideas would be comparable to being stabbed. Failing by being outsmarted is also one of his biggest nuances. Should he be outsmarted, or should someone prevail against him despite his 'perfect' plan, Ladd would more or less snap; leaving behind any form of rationality and allow himself to go on and mindlessly do things out of rage.
• Confident: Confident as he could ever be. Ladd would never back down on any challenge, well, mostly won't. Should he know that the challenge is obviously rigged, chances are, he'd be passing up the trial. Though with enough provocation jabbing at his bravery and inability to do whatever it may be, Ladd's chances of biting the bait would only increase tenfold.
• Carefree: No fucks given attitude, notable both in life and in combat. Ladd would often fight without any seriousness whatsoever and prefer to give his bare minimum at best, though this could only be seen at first when he's yet to know his opponent's true power and potential. Due to such, he is often one to shed blood first between him and his opponent for fighting in a deliberately sloppy way.
Habits:
• Baking: Again, he's an exceptional baker and patissier. Ladd's pallet for sweets might just be unmatched by anyone. He's more than capable of making cakes, pastries, and pretty much all any dessert with nothing but the highest of quality. He had once thought of opening up his own bakery, something that he's still considering up to this very date.
• Smoking: Smoking had been a habit for Ladd, it won't be a day for him without smoking at least one stick of cigar. For his time alive, he had already tried out many methods, tobaccos, pipes, cigars, and now he's into vaping, mainly due to its flavored scents. Hitting a fat one and smelling mint, lavender, or vanilla after is nothing but pure ingenuity, he has nothing but high praise for whoever might have invented it.
• Sleeping: The strongest of any lazy boy hobby. Ladd is quite fond of sleeping indeed, mostly at times he's not supposed to. He'd sleep anytime aside from nighttime, and no, he's no vampire, though rumors had sure been circulating ever since thanks to his sleeping habits and ghoulish appearance.
• Yawning: Oddly enough, he yawns so much that it could already be considered as one of his habits. Ladd is very much prone to contagious yawning, yawning when it's hot to cool down his head, yawning when bored, and yawning when, well, doing anything at all; even in combat he could be caught yawning.
• Compulsions: Simply put, with his OCD, Ladd has a very long list of very specific habits, a few examples would be; having to brush his teeth not exceeding fifty circular strokes each time including his tongue, knocking three times in a specific way before entering any closed door, with a three second interval from the second knock before the third knock, and the need to horizontally cut any and every sandwich before eating it. The three are simply examples of what he may do out of his obsessive-compulsive behavior as many more 'rituals' and behaviors are affected, some are very minor while some may be notably obvious.
Fears:
• Death: Most fear death, and much like most do, Ladd does. Though not for the usual reason, but for the possibility of hollowfication upon death. That and the fact that the only notion of any afterlife is either hell or the soul society, just where would his soul go should it not roam the human world or hollowfy? Disappear? It's quite a headache to imagine, really, and best he could do is keep himself alive.
• God: Shinigami, Hollows, Quincy, even the very concept of hell exists, so how impossible would it be for an actual one true God to exist? An all-powerful God who could wipe the entire universe itself with a mere thought. This possibility of this being to one day show itself is quite bone-chilling indeed.
• Powerlessness: To be stripped away of his power could only be described as a nightmare for Ladd. Quite frankly, he's not sure of what would happen to him should his power ever disappear. Would he rapidly age from his lack of spiritual energy? Would he live normally, like any other ordinary human? Truth be told, the uncertainty of what he may become is what he fears most, that and for being left defenseless in a world filled to the brim with the occult.
• Demotion: Demotion from his rank. Perhaps his biggest fear of all, he simply hates being lower than everyone else, to see a previous equal become his higher-up and have his previous underlings be of higher rank than him. A great worry, considering how he's one to usually pass forward tedious work for his underlings to accomplish in his place, and knowing how he hates trivial work so much, it could only mean hell.
• Extinction: The extinction of all Quincy. The idea itself bothers him, with multiple factions having bad blood against their kind, it's quite worrying to think of what would become of them should everyone join forces against their kind. Though he has high hopes and trusts the strength of Quincy to prevail over anything, nothing is truly impossible, only improbable.
Goals:
• Rise: To rise the ranks of Vandenreich and garner his much deserved respect and recognition. At some point, it had always been a dream for young Quincy to reach the very top of the hierarchical ladder and he's no exemption.
• Peace: A future where there are no threats, no wars, no monsters to worry about. Such visions are often laughed at, made fun of for being too impossible as many might say, though a man could hope. It's not as if he's certain of this goal to be achievable, but he sure does hope so.
• Family: After years of his existence, Ladd could only hope to finally meet the love of his life, to eventually settle down and be a good husband with little to no children, and of course, to have his loving wife by his side. But of course, he had gone through various flings, though none really stood out as 'wife material' for a man like Ladd, none as of yet, at least.
• Bakery: To build his own bakery and serve and share his exceptional baked goodies and desserts. One of his smaller, easier goals in life. In fact, he's close to fulling it already, all he ever needs now is to specify a place and get set with whatever design he wants it to have. Though being too occupied with his tasks at the Vandenreich may keep him from ever focusing on his bakery. As such, it is his first duty to search for the perfect staff, making sure everything would be left on good hands should he ever get too busy.
• Empowerment: To further develop his own power, to become stronger than he is, to reach levels far surpassing his limit and attain the very peak of Quincy power; perhaps even break past of this known power ceiling. It is his lifelong goal to ever develop, find ways to use his power different than his previous showcase of it. As such, Ladd is constantly training and innovating with his power use, making sure to cover every strength and compensate well with weakness he may notice himself to have.
Alignment:
• Chaotic Neutral: As it would be evident by now, Ladd truly has no fucks given at most times. It is only during combat and Vandenreich missions would one ever see a slither of care from him. For the most part, Ladd prefers a stagnant lifestyle with nothing much to do aside from things of his liking and interst.
Personality:
Do you ever look at someone and wonder, what is going on inside their head? Surely many had asked themselves the same about the enigma that is Ladd Spielgeist. One thing to note is that he's chock full of contradictions, further complicating the puzzle that he is, with a multitude of traits one might not expect from him upon initial sighting. With countless consistent inconsistencies, Ladd is a man of great mystery with an inexplicable psyche not even the sharpest of minds could thoroughly decipher.
