OOC: Training for CTP
Menos Forest. A place full of weaker hollows. They averaged somewhere between Gillian and Adjuchas, so the majority of them weren't as strong as the Octavo, for sure. This excursion wasn't planned for Adolf to gain in strength. The trip to Menos Forest was solely for the purpose of breaking him out of his comfort zone. He hadn't been comfortable with killing for a long time. That was something he thought would never change. Though, his position as an Espada is rather demanding, especially in that department. The Espada aren't a position for fucking around in. They're the strongest of the Arrancar for a reason. This was a standard Adolf needed to live up to. He couldn't go around remaining the same happy-go-lucky kid he has been for the past few years, and even he knew it. Things needed to change about him if he was going to live up to the expectation of Espada and climb the ranks, and this was the place to start.
Making his way into the forest was like taking a walk down memory lane. Literally. He had been here before for similar reasons. Having marked the first time he fought with Kazuna, Adolf was very familiar with this place. And, once again, he had come back to fight what he could. His goal was not only to win each and every skirmish he had gotten into, but to decimate each foe. In the end, he had hoped that he wouldn't feel bad about such horrendous acts anymore. That was all he could hope at the moment. If it took him ten minutes, all would be said and done quickly, and he'd be on his way. If it took him hours, days, or months, then so be it. He had to get used to combat, and this was the best way to do it. Fighting those he may grow to care for later on was not a good option at the moment. The exact reason he avoided to mention this plan to Kazuna, Rio, or any of the other Espada he knew. This was something he felt he had to do alone, and something that was going to be done.
Upon walking around for about thirty minutes, Adolf stumbled upon a small group of three Hollows. These hollows were Adjuchas of low power at best, something he'd been able to pick up from the Reiatsu they didn't bother to mask. These were the Octavo's first targets on the path of his so-called "redemption". He hadn't bothered to get the jump on this small group. There was no need to. Even with their slightly superior numbers, they didn't stand up to the power the Octavo could bring should he want to, even if it was arguably not a lot. He approached the group, and called out to them. Adolf decided to have a little bit of fun. "Hey uglies," he called out, purposefully deepening his voice to sound intimidating, "You guys don't mind if I kill you, right?" Admittedly, he was not the best at trash-talking. It wasn't something he put a significant amount of time into, so it's not something he felt he needed.
The hollows looked up at Adolf, confused and somewhat angered. "Looks like we've got fresh meat, anybody hungry?" One of the hollows chuckled at this comment. Another nodded. They all stood up, and began to walk over towards Adolf. "I'd back down if I were you, boy. It'll be easier if there's as little struggle as possible while we tear you to shreds." Adolf flashed a smile. Whether he was trying to be cocky or not was beside the point. These hollows were standing up against someone who was far from equal to them. The sooner they realized this, the much better off they'd be. Granted, they weren't going to live for long, but nonetheless. He slowly began to walk up to the hollow closest to him, and stare him in the mask. The hollow towering over him let out a heavy breath. His breath was awful, and Adolf did what he could to stop himself from gagging. Realizing this was going on long enough, he quickly swiped Desamor up, and into the Hollow's chin. This stunned the hollow for a second, leaving him completely vulnerable to Adolf. Pulling his Zanpakuto back down, he quickly jammed it in the beast's stomach, and took a leap backwards. Adolf fired a Bala aiming for the hollow's head, and quickly sent the hollow to the ground from the force. It was not dead, but incapacitated at the moment.
Having given himself some space between the group and himself, he was in the perfect situation to release. He quickly shouted "Desamor, Shatter These Bonds!", and ripped the sword from its scabbard. A surge of light was released, temporarily blinding the hollows before him due to their proximity. He took this time to sprint before one of the group members, and quickly slice off their left leg. This sent the beast to the ground, unable to effectively stand, and, in turn, fight. Upon finishing this, his next aim was the final remaining hollow. The hollow was able to react quick enough to swing its arms at Adolf's head. As it made contact, Adolf was stopped. Though, the hit didn't damage Adolf. His Hierro had protected him from that, and was able to easily stop the hit. The Octavo took this opportunity to run the beast through with his blade, leaving a fine sized hole in its stomach. The hollow fell to the ground, once again still alive. He hadn't brought himself to kill any of them yet. Though, that was about to change.
Adolf walked over the first hollow he had incapacitated, and placed the bladed edge of his boney blade under its chin, blade facing up. The stared into the hollow's eyes, who could not see back into Adolf's due to his mask. He quickly sliced upwards, splitting the hollow's mask in two and ending its life before Adolf could think about what he was doing. Upon finishing the act, he couldn't feel anything but remorse for what he had just done. No! This was something that needed to end! He walked up to the next hollow, and quickly plunged his blade into its neck. He sliced it outwards, through the hollow's mask, slicing it in two but this time horizontally. Once again, he felt bad for what he had done. So he approached the final hollow. Using his foot to turn the beast's face upwards, Adolf once again looked the hollow in the eyes. This time, he pierced through the center of the hollow's mask, killing it rather quickly, and pulled the blade out. He couldn't get over this feeling. It was something that needed to end.
After wandering for another minute or so, doing what he could to preserve the length of his resureccion and leaving behind the remains of the hollows for what he could, Adolf quickly stumbled upon a group of Arrancar, all of them covered in cloth. They didn't appear to be naked, and were covered rather well. Two of them happened to be female, with one male. The two women were noticeably older than the boy, who appeared to look to be in his teens, similar to Adolf. He was defenseless. The two women were looking after him. This made him a prime target. With the power of a sonido, he quickly appeared before the boy. Before any one of them could react, Adolf had quickly decapitated him. Just milliseconds after resolving this gruesome act, there it was again. Remorse. The Octavo began to get angered from himself. Why couldn't he get over this? It's not like it was something he hadn't done in the past. He did this to survive, why was this still something that revulsed him?
As he was thinking to himself, the two women began to scream in horror. It was as if their own son had just been murdered in front of them. Unbeknownst to Adolf, that was exactly what had just happened. The screams began to anger him. You two need to shut up, he thought to himself. He turned to his left, and made a stride towards the currently panicking woman. He ran her through rather quickly, as was what seemed to be his favored way of taking someone down. He slid his blade out from the woman, and let her drop. She was still alive. As he turned away from her, she proceeded to mumble something. Adolf was uninterested in what she had to say, and pointed a finger at her while maintaining focus on the other woman. From the tip of his finger, a small black orb of Reiatsu began to form. After a bit, the familiar roar of a Cero began to form. Within seconds, the woman who had lay on the ground, clinging on for dear afterlife, had been gone, as well as any existing trace of her. The arrancar in front of Adolf stared emotionless as the woman she was with had been seemingly wiped from existence. She fell to her knees, seemingly having lost it all. Adolf walked over to her, stepping across the body of the deceased boy, and stopped in front of the woman. She looked up into his face, currently covered by a mask. She began to speak. "Please..." she begged, "Just... Just make it quick."
The Octavo couldn't help but feel bad at this. Even then, he did what he could to power through it. He lined up his blade with her left shoulder, and walked to her left side. He was about even with her, though just a little to her left. Adolf looked away, and pushed his blade as far and hard as he could into her shoulder. She was forced to lean back, being held up by the Espada's blade, unable to lay on the ground. She screamed in agony, and Adolf winced. He pulled his blade back, and once again ran it through her shoulder. Once again she screamed, this time seemingly with more force. Adolf winced under his mask again. Once again, he pulled his blade back, and continued to run it through her shoulder. Out and in, out and in, out and in. Each and every time was met with a scream, further irritating Adolf, not because she wouldn't stop screaming, but because he couldn't get over the sound of it. This kind of senseless violence was not in his nature. It wasn't something he was used to. But damn it, he needed to get used to it. He wasn't going to survive in the Espada without the ability to kill. They'd eat him alive.
Eventually she had stopped screaming, though due to her being overwhelmed with the pain, and losing consciousness. Adolf sighed, and shuddered. He told himself that he'd get over it. Maybe not right away, like he was hoping, but he'd get over it. It was going to take some time, though. He pulled his sword out of her shoulder one last time, and ran it through her neck, finally pinning her to the ground. He pulled the blade out, and took a deep breath. He closed his eyes for a second, and began to run. His plan was to try and hit another group before being forced out of his released state. Yeah, he should be able to get another group before his time is up. Eventually, after about five minutes, he had reached his last destination. This was another group of Arrancar, five in numbers. Still considerably weaker than he was. Upon further inspection, they seemed to be arguing about something.
He began to approach the group quickly, afraid he'd run out of time. Sprinting up had not been a bad idea, however. While they were focused on the argument currently at hand, he pulled back his bloodied weapon, and quickly slashed ahead of him. One of the Arrancar fell to the ground, a grievous wound now marking his chest. The arrancar was undoubtedly dead, and Adolf quickly moved onto the next one, not allowing himself to react to the one who had just fallen. Before the others could really react, he pushed his blade down to the ground, and quickly pulled up, slicing upwards along another one of the campers, splitting them up the middle. Though he hadn't cut directly through the arrancar to create two parts, there was a fairly large, and deep wound along his stomach and up the head. The man had fallen back, clearly executed.
Upon attempting to slash at the next one, the area around Adolf quickly went white for a second. While not quite strong enough to blind, nobody could see too much of what was going on. The Octavo had realized the problem, though; he had lost his release state. Desamor's scabbard had formed around the blade again, slamming the blunt weapon into the man's head. While this took him to the ground, the blunt force was far from enough to take his life. Adolf began to panic about losing his resureccion. He had actually ran out of time! A highly unanticipated and fairly large drawback to his standing in the current fight. He took a step back, the cost of the Reiatsu he had spent while in that state taking a toll on him. It wasn't enough to do too much to him, but it was still noticeable. As he was trying to take a breather, the remaining two arrancar quickly jumped him.
Before he knew what was happening, Adolf was pinned down by one of the arrancar, and disarmed. The other had picked up Adolf's weapon, and began to examine it. "Well, well, well," he began to say with a sinister tone, "What do we have here? An insolent brat that needs to learn his place, huh?" The arrancar gripped the katana, and began to tug at it to pull the weapon out of the scabbard. The weapon wouldn't budge, being locked shut by Adolf's sealed state. It could only be unsheathed through him releasing. To his knowledge, there was no other way. After a minute or two, the bigger man eventually gave up. "Oh well," he said, "My plan was to end you with you own weapon. Guess mine'll have to do!" He quickly pulled out a small dagger he had hidden away, dropping Desamor to the ground, and kneeled down in front of Adolf. The man had tried to run the dagger into Adolf's stomach, but it had been stopped by his hierro, which had taken minimal hits all day.
He knew at this point he was in a race against time. He had to break the grip of the other arrancar currently holding him down before his hierro gave out. If he couldn't do this, there wouldn't be an Octavo Espada anymore. He wasn't going to give up that easily. Adolf began thrashing about, doing what he could to shake the grip of the larger man off of him. Both arrancar began to shout at him, but he couldn't hear them. He wasn't listening, and adrenaline was beginning to kick in. His only focus was to break free, and show them what happens when you mess with the Octavo. After eventually freeing his arms, he decided to get a bit risky. He pointed a finger at the Arrancar with the dagger, and a small orb of pink Reiatsu had begun to charge, similarly to earlier. A cero was his safest bet at the moment, even for as risky as that option was. After a second, the blast fired, incinerating the everything above the man's hips, due to his close proximity to the initial blast. The one holding Adolf became distracted from this, and was victim of a nasty headbutt.
Being forced to let go of the Octavo, the Arrancar had taken a step back. Adolf quickly scooped up Desamor, and grabbed the grip with both hands. As quickly as he could, the Octavo ran up to the only Arrancar currently able to fight, and smashed the weapon into his head. Desamor had been fine after contact, but the man's skull likely wasn't. He was out cold. After taking a moment, Adolf realized he had done it. He managed to escape with his live intact. His breathing was now sporadic, and he looked around the "battlefield". Most of the Arrancar had lay dead on the ground, with a few alive. They needed to be taken care of. All Adolf had done to finish them was a bala to the head each. That had finished the job. There wasn't much else he could do to take care of them, havin lost his release. That was the only time he had access to a sharpened weapon. Aside from that, he had to rely on his techniques and blunt force trauma, the latter of which wasn't always effective enough to get the job done.
Adolf began to make his way out of Menos Forest, and back to Los Noches. During that time, he began to reflect on his experiences. He had made multiple kills today, but were any for the better of his goal? Had any of them not been filled with regret and sorrow? Well, the answer to that was actually yes. During the last few kills, before being pinned down, he realized he hadn't felt anything during that excursion. He hadn't let himself think quick enough to react to what he had done. Even after he had been pinned, and was still under the influence of adrenaline. Those two kills had no remorse behind them, and were just done. He realized that he had taken one step closer to achieving his goal of becoming one of the top Espada. One of the larger hurdles had been jumped. He had no longer been affected by these kills. It was something he could bypass if he didn't let himself think about it. While not the best way to go about things, it certainly brought results with it. Though, this brought with it a few concerns. How would he stack against taking the life of someone he had met before, or was close with? Would he be able to do it? And, as far as his far goal of becoming one of the top Espada, now that he had accomplished this, gaining the strength to go along with it would be easier, right? It would certainly help him improve in the future, but how much? That was a question that was likely going to stay unanswered for the time being, but would be answered in due time.
