Kaen was surprised at Rin's reaction to his statement that she was worth more than the blade on her hip. Of all people, he expected she would have considered herself better than that. Kaen waited for Rin to finish pouring herself a drink, and then poured himself another one, knocking it back with practiced ease. Still okay? Hmm... He'd have to stand up to be sure, but he was lucid, and fine, so... yeah, probably not too bad yet. Hiretsuna was right in this case. Kaen would have had Rin's back, regardless of how she'd returned. That's what his loyalty meant. Kaen had no doubt that had Rin returned without her weapon, she'd have found another way to excel. Heck. Kaen himself had racked up a reputation for being able to defeat Vice Captains without even needing his Zanpakuto either.
Perhaps it was that Kaen had been taken in by Rin's own mentality, but for him, it was not that she liked to hide her unsightly side. To Kaen, Rin didn't have one. Even at her most vicious and sadistic, he didn't mind, so long as it was directed toward someone who deserved it. It was only natural for an Empress's wrath to be a thing of terror after all, right? The way she could change moods on a dime, from sweet to furious? Well. That just made her that much more interesting to be around. But here... hmm... maybe it was the alcohol talking? Kaen looked at his emptied cup. He stole two more pieces of sushi, and then politely pushed the rest of the sushi towards Rin, allowing her whatever she desired from what was left, in an effort to lift her spirits somewhat.
The conversation turned to Rin's zanpakuto spirit and Kaen grinned. "Good! I'm glad I'm a handful. It keeps you sharpened to a razor's edge!" He jested. "I get that though. Hachiryuu's similar enough." Albeit in the worst possible ways. Normally, Kaen and Hachiryuu got along fine. But Soul King forbid they fight someone female. Kaen would have to endure an onslaught of perverted comments racketing off the walls of his mind throughout the battle. THAT was annoying. "I'm just helping!" "No. No you are not." Kaen countered the spirit in his mind. "Besides though. I now have my Vice Captain's permission to be her lazy third seat~" He teased at Rin, gleefully, as he finished off the sushi in front of him. He was good for now, having no qualms with Rin having as much of the rest as she desired.
And then Rin made Kaen's day.
"Train with you again!? Absolutely!" Kaen exclaimed, excitedly. "I'd love to!" This was... absolutely what he wanted. To be of use to Rin. To help her develop and grow as a fighter. For so long. So... long, he'd wondered how his improved skills would have stacked against her. No doubt, Rin had grown unimaginably in power as well though. Would he be defeated without even landing a clean hit, like their first sparring match? Strangely enough? That idea excited Kaen. That Rin could possibly have become that strong, and become an even greater target to chase. Afterall, Rin was one of the figures who'd inspired Kaen to train as hard as he had, in an effort to catch up to her. Something he'd probably have to tell her sometime. "Night, day. Noon, midnight. If you select the time, I'll be happy to join you!" He proclaimed happily. He was excited-- moreso that Rin was the one proposing it. "I... want to show you how much stronger I've gotten." He added. Rin had claimed to have been proud of him, and how he'd held the position in her absence. But this was it. The moment was fast approaching that Kaen could show her. Show her the strength he'd developed as a Vice Captain of Squad 7. Had it been enough to close the gap between them at all? Or had Rin's own training, instead widened that bridge? The idea and questions excited Kaen to no end. And better than that, he'd be helping her develop her own abilities. Rin's Zanpakuto.... Kaen had only seen it once before, on a mission with her. But this was a new one. Kaen was certain. Positive, that it would be just as spectacular as her original weapon. "After this... I'll take you right to Himitsu's office." He paused. "And.... probably tell him that I'm calling off the investigation of Enma." He added with a sideways glance. That... could be an awkward conversation, right there. Oh well! Rin was back! He'd deal with that when it came to it.
