Hey… isn’t that…?”
“There’s no way.. She’s supposed to be dead ..”
Sigh.. Attention was something she loved very much. It meant you were the star of the show. It was something to be envied. Everything Rin Minamimoto did was entirely for attention. From her mannerisms to her outlandish kimono right down to the very large weapon she brandished, Rin made sure she stood out amongst the pathetic masses that were the other shinigami. Orange irises looked up at the messy evening sky as the female would exhale, as if it would help the stress roll off her soldiers. She was excited at first. Home was all she longed for in the last few years. But then she heard it. The sounds of whispers and gasps would cause her to turn her head in the direction they came from. She’d watch them like a hawk for a moment or so and when the pressure was too much, those poor, unfortunate souls would scurry off to whatever corner they came from.
This sort of attention was truly on another level.
One foot into Seireitei and all eyes were on her. At first Rin did not care. It was a normal evening as far as she was concerned. She knew appearance wise what she looked like but then one whisper turned into twenty within a matter of minutes. Soft whispers that she picked up with great ease and the shocked glances made their way to her. Why… it was as if they had all seen a ghost! As it turns out, that’s exactly what it was. “Dead woman walkin’… Tch. Don’t let it fuck with ya.” Whispers and comments ranging from “Isn’t she dead?” to “Is that an imposter?” were made with every step she made back to her barracks. It would be then that it really start to hit her. The whole world thought she was six feet under. The whole world had no idea what had happened to her and why. The people she held closest to her and the ones whom looked up to her had their hearts broken cruelly. The whole world was convinced by one man that she was a rotting corpse. To say it was unfair was an understatement.
Rin felt as though she had lost damn near everything upon her arrival. Being told you were dead when you really weren’t really screws with you. After hearing what everyone thought and their reactions, she wouldn’t even be surprised if she no longer had a home. She took one good look at the Squad 7 barracks before doing an about face, deciding to walk around Seireitei in an attempt to familiarize herself once again and attempt to clear her head. Everything felt so foreign and cloudy all of a sudden. Like she had been unfairly stripped of everything she’d loved and her home. Hell, she felt like even her identity was robbed of her. Despite Hire’s words, she couldn’t help it. It was getting to her in a way she didn’t quite know how to deal with. These thoughts only started to gnaw at her and Rin felt her heart being twisted into a knot.
She’d been lost in her thoughts for a while, wandering around aimlessly until she felt something press against her forehead gently. “Ne~?” Rin blinked as she felt herself being pulled back to reality. Her line of sight was suddenly blocked by a taller male and her eyelashes would flutter as she blinked curiously a few times. The samurai looked up to see the hilt of someone’s Zanpakuto sticking up and felt the gentle pressure of it against her forehead. The man’s face had suddenly turned pale and she’d hear the sort of gulp associated with that lovely “I really fucked up.”-face. Rin could hear Hire’s roaring laughter in the back of her mind as it had finally clicked.
Some idiot tried to perform a konso on her…
That exchange lasted only a few moments but a few moments was all that was needed for Rin to prove that she was kicking and breathing. Literally. Angrily, Rin walked off, leaving that poor shinigami with a bloodied nose and a red cheek. She needed to go somewhere. Anywhere. Anywhere but where she was. Her body moved and her thoughts focused on a place where she could blend in. A place where it would be easy to get lost in a sea of people and where she would be hidden in plain sight. As luck would have it, there was a lecture. A… ugh dammit. It would be a stupid Kido lecture. Whatever! The Empress thought it would be sufficient. It wasn’t like she had to pay attention. She’d follow the others and find herself a seat in the near back. She looked around to see others chatting amongst themselves excitedly until the professor made their way in. All eyes would be on them. “This is some nerd shit, Empress..” Frustrated, she flicked her zanpakuto. “Behave yourself. I’m tired of walking.” Rin felt solace and she’d sigh feeling relieved. For extra good measure though, she’d pull out her beloved fan to conceal most of her face because in the end… An Empress attending a kido lecture was simply embarrassing!
