Patrolling throughout Karakura Town had become the norm for the once controlled Fullbringer by the name of Nami Kawa. She had started a new life one that for the most part she was in control of and yet still despite everything else she remained almost completely the same. She lived her life for a purpose and that purpose was all that drove her. She possessed no dreams, no interest or hobby. Everything about her was meant to serve her purpose for existing and now even though she worked alongside Soul Society and she had been hold different it remained the same.
Every day she walked throughout the Japanese Town on the look out for any and all spiritually aware individuals that she hadn't seen in the past or that might be a problem or danger to Karakura. At the moment there didn't seem the be anything that fit that description. It was still early yet though only around ten o'clock in the morning. Light was bright, but Nami remained dark. As she stepped forward once again though she suddenly sensed the arrived of a Hollow a few blocks over and like it was instinct itself Nami began to rush over towards the Hollow so that it could be eliminated before it caused any harm to that which she existed to protect.

Akio stood in the shade of the archery range's front awning, gazing out into the bright glow that suffused Karakura. He looked back at the range and mentally checked it off a list of things that were long overdue. It was surprising how easy it was to get back into his former hobby, now that he had a reason to. It felt kind of like old times. Well, not completely the same as before, but given that the first time he played at archery started well, and eventually ended horribly for loosely Quincy-related reasons, the change was entirely welcome. His eyes follow the street ahead of him, not too crowded, and with a few hours left before he had to be anywhere. Which was rather convenient, since it meant he could still weigh the options of taking the long way or walking by the spirit.
The spirit in question was an abnormality for the afternoon. An oddly large, winged thing that was perched in a tree ahead of him, somehow not snapping the wood under its presumed weight. More precisely, it had four wings, and was covered in white feathers. Its body was slim, with a perfectly round hole through it, which together with the faint blurring if its overall shape, gave the medium a sense that the beast was barely there at all. It had two long legs, each tipped in four talons, the front two like bone-white knives, and then two shorter hind ones. It had only just arrived a moment ago, and had mostly settled for circling overhead before perching where it now was, seemingly waiting for somebody to walk into its reach. It had a long, white, angular mask that obscured its entire head. Clearly a Hollow.
He keeps his head tilted away from the birdlike thing, with only one eye allowed to follow after the creature. The medium had been trying to avoid its attentions that way, with only his spiritual senses paying full attention to the Hollow, the way the slight pressure it gave off flowed out around it. He took a step closer, just short of the warm sunlight's edge, the young man didn't normally see them so close up. "Do I risk it this time?" And then he took a step back into the shade, sensing a second presence, a different one.

Nami continued to move throughout Karakura Town moving as swiftly as she could possibly without drawing on her reiatsu and executing Bringer Light. She had learned in the past that while it would enable her to actually reach the Hollow or any potential threat faster it also had the potential of giving them a heads up. She had done so in the past and the Hollow had been able to sense her reiatsu when she had executed Bringer Light. The Hollow had been smart enough to run and hide and when she finally got there it had taken more time to find it than if she had simply rushed there using only her muscles.
So that's what she was doing right now. Running upon the pavement and cement of the urban town while suppressing her reiatsu making it so unless this Hollow was extremely refined in sensing reiatsu she'd go unnoticed by it. As she was moving throughout Karakura Town though the Hollow a white bird like monster saw many humans that it could pray on feeding its hunger so that it may eventually evolve into something that didn't live such a sorrowful existence. One of these humans in the area had a slightly bigger spiritual wave that was emanating off of him.
While it was still barely there and the difference between him and any of the normal spiritually unaware humans was next to nothing there was still enough that the Hollow knew by eating him it'd gain more than simply eating a normal human. So off the branch it flew rushing towards the human at the speed of a professional athletic runner. This human at best could probably only run around ten miles an hour. If Nami or someone else didn't get there fast than this Hollow was going to find out just how filling he could be.

Akio continued his one-sided staring at the Hollow, taking in the details of it's appearance and behavior. He'd seen them to be, for the most part, animals. Sometimes hostile, sometimes just on their way to somewhere else. The hostile ones were typically followed shortly by people dressed like they just stepped out of the Tokugawa era, or else a Quincy, but either occurrence was a worthwhile lightshow while it lasted. Thinking of it, maybe that's what the other spiritual presence coming his way was?
He gave a moment of attention to some passersby, one who pinged on his fairly basic sixth sense. The birdlike Hollow noticed them too, hurling itself back into the air with wings spread wide. It quickly glided towards them, spiritual power rolling off of the creature at a slightly more intense level as it prepared itself. The first thoughts the medium could process about that situation were I can't stop that thing. The bird screeched, wings angled back, talons forward... "Watch out." He called in their direction, more intervention than he usually risked with these situations. The man turned their head to the side and tripped, falling to the concrete path he'd been standing on. In the same moment, the avian hollow's strike met empty air where they were, it circled back to land just beside its now immobile target, looming over them, and quickly glanced up at Akio before turning it's attention back to the passerby. Luck only went so far, it seemed.
That didn't look good to him. It was probably going to end poorly for everyone involved, really. Well, maybe not for the Hollow? One of the worst cases for the medium was playing out in front of him, and he was just standing there. But from his perspective, there wasn't much he'd be able to do about it right now. Well, in theory, a 'better' version of him could have used one of techniques he'd read about, but unrealistic things like that weren't relevant to the situation he actually had at hand. He bent down to pick up a small, smooth stone instead, and considered his chances throwing it. It likely wouldn't do anything at all. Besides, if his spiritual presence hadn't been dropped to even weaker than a normal, unenlightened person's several years ago, creatures like that would be paying attention to him all the time, which meant he wouldn't have time to try anything from those old books. Unable to make up his mind proper, he moved back into the sunlight beyond the awning, stone still in hand for whatever time it could buy. The bird began moving to devour the fallen man, and the aware man began moving to throw the stone. Both actions already in motion.

The blonde human continued to move throughout Karakura utilizing her ability as a Fullbringer to command the souls of the ground beneath her to enable her to actually jump far above what she was physically capable of doing alone. It helped her greatly in trying to get to the location of the Hollow that she was sensing much faster. She wasn't just running alongside the streets anymore. Now she was jumping over the buildings of Karakura or at least the small ones that were only two or three levels in height.
It was still taking her far to long to actually get to the Hollow that she was sensing. Although Nami until what many other individuals probably would have been feeling right now she felt nothing. In the place of fear, worry and perhaps even anger at one's self Nami felt nothing. All she was experiencing right now was a need to fulfill her duty to protect Karakura and all of it's inhabitants. Although if someone should die that gave Nami a strange feeling that she didn't quite get from anything else right now all she could think about was getting there killing the Hollow and maybe training to get faster so this same thing won't happen in the future.
As Nami moved throughout Karakura Town the events taking place at the actual scene continued to unfold. It seemed that the normal human was scared of whatever was happening and that much could only be expected. He couldn't see the Hollow or what was happening so as he fell to the ground and the Hollow moved upon him ready to devour him tears ran down from his eyes unable to process what was going on leaving only fear in his heart. However, just as the Hollow was reaching the man it stopped and turned it's head towards Akio. He was holding a stone in his hand and looked as if he was about to throw it at the Hollow.
The gross looking bird like white masked face of the Hollow suddenly grinned at Akio and a long gray tongue moved out from between the beak that covered the lower section of it's face. "So little human you can see me. I sensed more from you than the others, but if you can see me that means you might just be a good meal after-all. What're you going to do hmmmm? Stop me with that stone? You wanna save this worthless piece of flesh do you? Is his life really worth yours? You could be running right now? Such a dumb little piece of flesh. Fine I'll devour you first!" shrieked the Hollow as it running rushed Akio not bothering to fly upwards simply running on it's back legs.
It would reach Akio quickly, but it wasn't all that fast when it wasn't flying although it was over ten feet tall and much bigger than Akio. If he didn't do anything there was no doubt he'd be eaten. He'd have to survive just a little bit longer though. Fate wasn't on his side today it seemed as Nami was still out a few ways. It was still going to take her more time to get there and because Akio's spiritual presence was so small in truth the Substitute Shinigami hadn't even sensed him. To her all there was still only seemed to be the Hollow. So how would he fair and would he survive?

When the Hollow spoke, he didn't bother answering it, or even trying to look it in the eye. Stop them? Akio's intentions had been much smaller scale than that, just getting them to roam elsewhere would have been fine. He feel anything in particular for the spirit, or the human he'd knocked over in the course of saving them from it, really, he just hadn't wanted to watch someone be eaten. But then he'd gone and pushed his luck, gotten something's full attention for once. He only hoped for better results than with the horse this time.
The mundane medium turned to the side and stepped back, it wasn't enough, of course, even as the razor tip of the Hollow's beak passed his face, jaw gaping wide. He'd avoided the jaws, but the wings on that side would have smacked him in the face had the medium found his arm tugged along by some dull instinct, already making an attempt to shove against the birdlike monster's side in an attempt to create more distance between the two of them. He wasn't given a moment to regret that, before his palm connected with the great white spirit's feathery hide.
Its faint and wavering edges were were sharp to him then, up until his unfortunate arm thrashed and tore itself back from the creature, suddenly numbed to all but the searing feeling of his skin burning off. The medium's thoughts cut to radio static, a white noise of excitement, pain, and dread that drowned out anything else in that moment, lining his skull, forcing his eyes shut and his jaw clenched. That was okay, he didn't need to see where he was going right now, just make some space. The first wide step back gave enough momentum to carry a second, and then the third brought his back slamming into one of the decorative trees beside the sidewalk, reeling his attention to a new pain. The fallen man had already scrambled off at some point while the spiritually absent one was busy saving themselves. Even so, if Nami wanted to arrive on the scene without anyone dying, she wouldn't have much longer to do it.
The vile beast couldn't turn its charge quite as easily, and the talons of its feet tore shallow lines into the concrete sidewalk before making the forced turn to chase after their intended meal. The hollow was still going to close the distance easily, but the stalling tactic had worked well enough. The non-combative man took a long, painfully slow breath, followed immediately after by shorter, shallow ones. The low, rattling clatter of the stone that fell from his grip landing, timed about a second after the soft clang of white steel on wood, was a clear reminder his dominant hand was still intact, for when came to that. His future looked shorter and bleaker, the disgusting bird Hollow's mask growing closer with each tiny slice of a second.

It seemed that the human despite perhaps having good intentions for a brief moment or wishing to live even in the face of utmost terror was no longer able to get away from the bird hollow. It had been chasing after him and now that he was on the ground and the non-spiritual human was no longer even present in its mind it seemed as if this was his last few moments. Any moment now this hollow was going to take a bite out of him and that would be it he'd be dead and any plans that he had for the rest of his life would be no longer possible.
Right now he was starring death in the face and there was no hope that he'd get away or survive this it was as if he was watching a horror movie and he was a side character about to be killed by the creature. However, out of nowhere without warning suddenly the beaked face that was looking down at him from mere inches away erupted with blood as it was sliced in half horizontally. Blood spraying from the now destroyed head of the hollow would soak the human in the disgusting liquid that had been the hollow's life force.
Standing there a few feet from him was a young girl with short pale blonde hair in a bob cut holding what looked to be a large thick sword that had the blade covered in the blood of the hollow. She starred at him for a moment her silver eyes gazing at him with no emotion within them. It was if he didn't even really register to her as a person. Simply something that had to be done. Suddenly her sword was gone and she began to turn around uncaring about the boy who now was covered in blood. If this human wanted to know anything he only had now to find out.

Arms raised in the typical position of someone bracing for impact, Akio waited for the Hollow to reach him. But was instead unpleasantly surprised by a wave of the creature's blood, which immediately began burning him everywhere it had made skin contact. Thankfully, his sleeves took the worst of the splash, keeping his face safe from the searing mess save for a few droplets. His hands, however, were not nearly as lucky, each reduced to a scorched mess covered in a sizzling mixture of the bird's blood and his own. Dull brown eyes tearing up, he wiped his hands off on his increasingly bloodied yellow shirt, and carefully pushed the still hissing bangle from his left wrist up over the sleeve on that arm, and revealed a particularly deep burn where the vile substance had been trapped underneath.
"Thank you for that." Said the medium in a pained, out of breath voice. Nami's Sword caught his eye as best it through his ravaged hands before it disappeared, like a reflection on water more than an object proper. "Where did you get that sword?" Without entirely processing the fact that he would have died back there in any situation that hadn't involved that perfectly timed arrival. "Wait, actual question, who are you?" It was probably less polite than the young man should have been, but he wasn't really calm enough to order his thoughts like that. He could barely stop looking back and forth between the dissolving mess that had been menacing him, and the mystery girl who just cut it apart without any real effort he could perceive.

Standing in front of the man as she had been Nami had been able to watch as the blood of the avian Hollow that she had just decapitated splashed across the human's arms along with a small amount of his chest and droplets on his face. She could see that the blood burned him, but with her logical method of thought she knew that there was nothing she could do for him as she possessed no real knowledge of medical treatment nor an ability to achieve such a thing. This meant that whatever wounds this human suffered from the hollow's blood would stay until his body could naturally heal itself.
As she turned away starting to walk off back on patrol throughout Karakura the man spoke thanking her for saving him from the Hollow. Nami stopped in place and turned back around to look at the man. Her emotionless gaze fixated on him as he asked her where she had gotten her Fullbring. She could feel a small degree of spiritual pressure from him, but not enough to really be sure that he was a Fullbringer himself. He was like a underdeveloped child when it came to the presence that Fullbringers typically gave off. He could see the Hollow though which meant that he was connected to the spiritual world at least in some degree.
"My name is Nami Kawa. My sword was my Fullbring. Why didn't you fight back against that Hollow?" Nami had been developing at a slow rate in terms of social interactions with other individuals, but she had come far enough that holding a small conversation with someone else was now a possibility. She still didn't really possess many opinions or preferences beyond the logical thinking of common sense and experience which carried her throughout her existence. She did want to know though why this man if he could see the Hollow didn't try to save himself at the very least. It was ill-logical not to fight back for one's own preservation.
With a clear sense of discomfort, Akio's hands lowered back to their resting positions, his fingers numbly flexing in hopes of reaching a more natural position, or at least a less uncomfortable one. The pain had already cut off while trying to wipe away the initial splatter, when either the his physical nerves had burned away, or his fragile soul was poisoned to a point that he couldn't process the sensation of what the Hollow's blood had been doing anymore. It would take a long, long time before he could use his fingers at normal capacity again, if the damage wasn't simply permanent, and he'd have to invest in a pair of gloves either way.
Somewhat surprised that Nami actually stopped to answer him, he stared back at her with dull, unsure eyes. "My name is Akio Naito." He'd seem confused as the young woman replied to his first question, having never heard the actual term 'Fullbring' before. Well, he'd read about a 'Full Manifestation Art' that some humans practiced, sure, but not enough to connect the terms mentally. The old books he'd been learning from were had been more concerned with the the spiritual environment and atmosphere than what a Fullbringer would have considered to be 'common knowledge'. He couldn't even pin down what her reiatsu's nature, though he estimated her as having about four times what most people had.
"I'm not able to fight a creature like that." With that flat, matter-of-fact statement, he looked back down to where the Hollow's corpse had been a moment ago, before breaking down into whatever particles had made it up. "Normally they'd have ignored me, but I got their attention trying too hard to save someone I didn't even know." He'd regretted the rush decision to pick up a stone more than the rest of the incident, the way he'd have scared off a wild bird. And having missed the actual escape while the avian spirit had been trying to maul him, he wasn't entirely sure how successful that mistake of his had been. "I burned my hand just trying to get away." He raised the hand in question, his right, and rested it over the band of white metal that currently looped snugly around the stained sleeve that covered his left forearm. "That was a lot more than I would normally have done." The assumption was grounded in logic as he understood it. He'd simply lost his usual defenses from the moment he intervened, any fight with a spirit or ability-user would have been rigged from the start, and running wouldn't have helped with a flying creature like that one once it had stopped ignoring him.
