It was quiet. The only sounds outside his own was the wind rushing past his ears and pushing through the blades of grass, and even further away the leaves of the trees. The moon was clearly visible, hanging low in the cloudless sky, and was granting the Bount enough light to see just perfectly fine. Alone, sitting atop the log of a fallen tree, the Bount was. With his eyes closed in thought it looked as though he were asleep. But he wasn't. He wouldn't be here tonight if he intended on getting any sleep. Though he'd gotten a good nap before hand. Schlafen had proven to be quiet effective outside combat. He only needed a, roughly, twenty to thirty minute nap to get a full eight hours of rest nowadays. Bount anatomy was weird. But that little tidbit wasn't what Luke was focused on. It was the reason why he was here why he seemed so tightly wound.

The following weeks after the incident had been an experience, to say the least. The memories of the fight were still crystal clear in his head when he thought back on them. The Quincies, the destruction, the appearance of that Old Man. Nothing had fogged over because it had been that traumatic. Luke had watched, on the news, the reports following the incident in Karakura. The explanation for all the destruction done to that portion of the city ended up being blamed on an earthquake. An earthquake. It was the only explanation the normies could come up with for why so many buildings went down like that. They still didn't have a number of the people who died during the fight. The amount of water ended up being blamed on broken water lines. But that was how the humans explained it. What about the Shinigami?

Aevus had been there that night. Luke had seen the number of samurai ghosts appearing in the skies above the city. Obviously they were aware something much more had happened that night. But how much did they know? Luke had laid low since that night. He'd kept himself, for the most part, hidden away in the club in order to avoid running into the Quincy again. Considering how angry she was at the end of the fight, Luke felt it was safer to just lay low and train. Unfortunately, he'd gone and done something stupid during that time. That something stupid was what resulted in the loss of his left arm. How he lost his arm wasn't important right now.

Imagine his surprise, however, when he found a black butterfly waiting for him in his room one night. Interacting with it he was given a message to meet with Aevus, tonight, in this location. The days leading up to the meeting was spent with Luke scooping the place out. He was surprised to find that it was a clearing in the forest, away from the city. Aevus had made a good call. Thankfully the weather was good. Luke found himself sitting there, Mūnran'nā leaning against the log, simply in focus as he waited for Aevus to arrive. "You know...if, say, Aevus wanted to kill you this would just be the picture perfect spot." And Jäger ruined the quiet by opening his mouth. "You don't think either of us haven't realized that by now?" Springflut snapped back.

It wasn't like Luke hadn't thought about that. Considering what happened and all...Luke was sure he'd hear a thing or two about it tonight. Whether or not Aevus had set Luke up for something...that remained to be seen. "I don't understand why you trust him. You're suspect that Aevus aims to see justice for that battle and yet you come here anyway. You've yet to even reacquire your left arm." Springflut scolded. Luke frowned, his eyes tightening together for a moment as he sighed. I trust him. I'll deal with whatever he wants to do. But...I'm not going to let him kill me." Luke replied, his right hand turning into a tight fist for a second before loosening up.

Like it or not, Springflut, we're not strong enough. Aevus is the only person who can help me get stronger. Taka is too weak. Timor is only good for sparring practice. The others at work...I don't know any of them well enough to ask. If I intend to make things right and to do something about those Quincy and other people like them I need to get stronger. I'm too weak to protect anyone. Luke explained. He was aware that Springflut begrudgingly accepted his words, but more than that...he could tell the Doll was genuinely concerned. Springflut did his best to hide his more human emotions beneath the veil of irritation and pride, but Luke could tell the Doll was bothered about that night. Maybe not for the same reasons though.

Springflut had been killed that night. He had experienced temporary death. As much as it hurt his pride to admit it, the Doll confessed to himself that Luke was right. They needed to get stronger. Though, unlike Luke, Springflut held no guilt over the attack he had used that leveled a few buildings. In his eyes, what did the lives of other people matter in comparison to his own and Luke's? Without Luke, he would die. Other people didn't matter. Even Jäger, from what Luke felt, was the same way. They weren't humans. Luke knew they would kill others without remorse or second thought if it meant their own preservation. Though Luke may be in some manner of control over them, he couldn't impart human empathy on them like he did.

"I wonder if I'll see Lummy tonight." Jäger broke the silence once again. Lummy? Luke asked. "Yeah! A cute name for such a cute girl!" Jäger replied back. You really have a thing for her, huh? Luke asked with a hint of entertainment. Maybe his Dolls did have more human emotion than he thought. "Isn't it obvious? I wanna know what her butthole smells like!" Oh. Hmm. Never mind. Maybe Luke was mistaken. "You're fucking disgusting Jäger." "Heeehahaehehehakekeke."

It was a beautiful clear night. Moonlight beamed past branches of swaying leaves. Soothing winds brushed against pale and furred cheeks as a Reaper and his wolven spirit walked beneath starlight. A simple tapping of the handle of a blade caused the white wolf’s ears to perk. She could sense that he was on edge but knew not the reason. His silence was different than usual. He was far more evasive tonight. He hadn’t uttered a word, since she had woken to follow him.

That look in his eyes, they shimmered like ice. His tired gaze was cold as it always was. But like frozen waters, something stirred beneath the surface. Prattling thoughts, all to consuming ones. They sheltered inside a man who possibly had no idea what he was going to do. But he held that coldness to himself, he held it there as long as he could. Aevus wouldn’t even look at Lumina as they walked beneath that starry sky. Part of him regretted waking his spirit. She didn’t have anything to do with any of this... But he knew her all to well. She would have made a fuss, if he didn’t bring her along. But it wasn’t only that, he also needed her...

Whisper Softly, Umbra

He hid not his presence from the Bount as he arrived. A cold breeze bristled against pale skin. His hood fluttered faintly as his frozen gaze affixed to the young man’s browns. But Luke would not just see Aevus as he arrived. He would feel him all around him. Like a shadow his presence loomed over the land and the Bount. His darkly territory would consume that clearing rather swiftly, pulsing away from the Reaper as he stood ever so silent. Not a word left the Shinigami’s lips as he locked eyes with the Bount.

Luke would sense it, as a Mark of Fate appeared over his heart. And from that mark a crimson thread was woven. His left hand, left the handle of his Zanpakuto ever so slowly. Holding out but a hand and upon his finger a hell butterfly would land. It’s wings fluttered faintly as it rested for a moment. And connected to that darkly insect was a red glowing thread. His glance narrowed upon Luke as the Butterfly shifted in his care. Luke wouldn’t have any idea what Aevus had done. But a low whine left Lumina’s throat as the butterfly rested on his index finger.

Six blades wove into reality, erupting from pale threads of reiatsu. Surrounding the Bount, the weapons pointed like arrows, ready to be let loose from their quivers. Aevus... But Aevus ignored his spirit. His eyes remained narrowed upon the Bount. He looked at him as if he were but a monster. As if he was contemplating how he was going to kill him. And well... he knew. He would end him swiftly, he would show the Bount mercy. But not before he knew why. He had to know why...

“Why did you do it Luke?” His voice never left his lips. No instead, it echoed coldly within the Bount's mind. It'd strike like the cold bite of a blade. Luke would feel it ever so. It was not anger that stemmed from Aevus's words. It was something else... Yet the Reaper attempted to remain apathetic. His cold tired gaze wavered not in the face of death. But he could barely stand to look at the young man before him. "Answer with honesty and face your fate."

Aevus didn't hide his presence, meaning that Luke knew when he arrived before the activation of the Zanapakuto. The Bount raised his head as that dark territory surrounded them. Despite the intensity of the situation, Luke found himself rising rather calmly to his feet. He had suspected something like this would happen after all. Even if Jäger had made a joke about it, Luke had the sinking thought in the back of his head that something like this might happen. After all...why wouldn't it? A Shinigami's role was one of a protector, wasn't it? Aevus had taken a chance with Luke. He had helped the Bount grow in power and strength. And how had he been repaid? What had been the pay off of that effort? A good few dozen dead. Crushed and drowned beneath a flood of water meant to end the life of another monster.

The wind pushed gentle against his skin as the Bount stared ahead at the Shinigami. Both their eyes remained locked on each others, waiting to see what the other would do. Suddenly he felt something. A disturbance in his being. Looking down Luke saw the glowing sigil that appeared atop where his heart should be. Attached to that mark was what looked like a red string that, when Luke followed the path, was attached to a butterfly. It didn't take Luke long to realize that this was the exact same black butterfly that he had found waiting for him in his room. An idea of what was happening began to form in Luke's head. Somehow, Aevus had been able to attach something to him using that butterfly. What it was though was anyone's guess.

Lumina's whine caught his attention, and his gaze shifted to the umbral spirit for a moment. He could tell that she was uncomfortable. But suddenly six blades appeared from thin air all hovering around Luke and aimed directly at him. Luke looked at them, expecting them to suddenly lunge at him. But they didn't. They remained locked there in place. "Luke.." Springflut growled. Luke could feel the Dolls frustration bleeding into his voice. Returning his gaze to Aevus, the Bount wondered why Aevus didn't just do it. It was why he was here, wasn't he? The look in the Shinigamis eyes were ones like you would give to a monster. Luke recognized those eyes. He recognized them from the first time Aevus learned Luke was Bount.

Suddenly a voice filled his head. Aevus's voice was suddenly in his head. He asked him a question. A question that filled Luke with an emotion. An emotion that Luke didn't expect to have. Shock. Luke was filled with shock upon hearing Aevus's question. His question was filled with a coldness that Luke came to expect from Aevus, but there was something else hidden in that voice. Something Luke wasn't quite sure the identity of. The second line of dialogue was delivered...and Luke just stood there. He stood there, in silence, staring at Aevus for a good few minutes. Until he felt it. Until he felt an emotion he didn't expect to feel tonight.

Luke had come prepared. Luke had come, in all honesty, prepared to die. He came expected Aevus to do something in response to that night. But what Luke didn't expect to suddenly find bubbling and growing inside him was...anger. "...what do you mean...'why did I do it?'" Luke asked, vocally, in a low mumble as his right hands fingers slowly began curling into a trembling fist. Those jaws pressed together, grinding his teeth against each other, as Luke strained to keep himself from simply exploding. "You think I did that on purpose you dumb fuck!?" Luke suddenly screamed, unable to keep it in any longer.

"You saw what I was fighting! Maybe against you that Quincy was dog shit, but nothing I fucking did did anything to stop her! She was killing people, Aevus! She was killing people! I was trying to stop her!" Luke shouted, face now red with anger and strain. "I didn't have a choice but to call out Springflut! He was the best shot I, we, had to just not be fucking killed! She fucking lit him on fire, Aevus! In ten seconds she had fucking killed him! He actually fucking died!! I didn't know he was going to do what he did, and he did what he did to try and save me! To try and do SOMETHING to stop her!!" Luke continued to scream, no longer caring about the swords floating above his head. "You don't think I regret what happened? You dumb fuck everytime I try to sleep it plays again in my dreams. Every. Fucking. Night! I don't even know how many people he...I...killed because of what that Quincy cumfuck slut did!"

Grinding his jaws together, Luke lowered his head for a moment as he experienced anger born tremors. "Why? Why did I do it?? Because...because I was trying to save people!" Luke shouted, throwing his head back up. But this time...tears had begun to fall from the corners of his eyes. Slamming the side of his fist against his forehead, Luke shook his head. "I...I couldn't just stand there. I couldn't just let her...do what she was doing. What...is the point in my powers...if I can't use them to save lives. I was trying to stop her. I was trying to stop her. I was trying to be a hero...to be a hero like you are, Aevus. And I...and I made...everything worse. I made everything so much worse..." Luke cried, covering his face in his hand as he sobbed. His Dolls were silent, watching the situation unfold in stunned silence. Both, at the same time, they were keenly watching Aevus. Watching to make sure he didn't do anything.

Aevus heard that anger flowing from the Bount clearly. Like a raging river being let loose. It drowned out everything around the Reaper and forced his narrowed gaze to remain upon the boy. A hint of laugher fell from the lips of a silver tongued hollow. He could hear the vixen’s glee echo within his mind. Like the stir of a fire built upon a pyre, Luke’s rage didn’t let up. no instead it seemingly grew. His voice boomed within that dark clearing and Aevus felt every inch of his hairs stand on end.

He was expecting the boy to anwser... No the Bount to answer. But he wasn’t expecting such a reaction. How Aevus felt about it remained to be seen. He’d give no inch to the emotions that sheltered within him. No... not until he heard the last of it. Familiar words... The words spoken from the lips of a stealthy teal eyed girl. He heard it echo from the Bount and his eyes widened seemingly in disbelief. Luke would see it clearly. The faint glimmer in those blue eyes of his. He had looked at the Bount as if a ghost.

That title. Those words, they rang not on deaf ears but Aevus stood silently amidst that black territory. Idly the phantoms of his Zanpakuto stirred in the wind. The black ribbons that hung from each of their pommels danced in that gentle breeze. Yet they remained focused upon the Bount with blades pointed to his head, arms, legs back and chest. His mind ran back to a time before he wore the black. Before his fingers tapped against the cool handle of a Zanpakuto. Before a cold visage sheltered the breath of a dying traitor.

“A hero...” Aevus repeated almost questioningly as if it were but a foreign thing to him. Yet it was anything but. To think such a simple word could drive its way into him like a blade. He hadn’t changed at all. No, not really. Just like with Aura... Just like with Nathan. He couldn’t fight those words... But now. Now he would try. He had to try. After all that chaos. After all those deaths. Someone had to... The Hell butterfly left the Reaper’s bandaged hand as he returned it to the handle of his Zanpakuto.

Part of him hesitated as his stance shifted. Perhaps Luke would notice. But Aevus wasn’t as composed as usual. Lumina herself could feel it. She could feel the pain radiating from the Reaper. He could barely stand to look Luke in the eyes as he stood at the draw. “A hero? You think that's what I am?” Aevus questioned unmoving, his gaze never averting from the Bount’s. “Do you have any idea what a hero is? What a Shinigami is? Do you know of the countless Bount that have died because of Shinigami, because of people like me?”

“You prattle on like a child, trying to play hero. When you don’t even know what you’re trying to imitate. You fool, you little fool. You have no idea... do you? Of what I am. I’m no hero. I’m a soldier, an assassin, a killer. There are no living heroes in war nor battle. There are no heroes Aur-” Aevus stopped with eyes wide open. His breathing was faint as his gaze trailed away from the Bount for a time. “There are no heroes Luke... To try to be one in this world is pointless. You’ll drive yourself into the grave with such foolish ambitions.”

His eyes would soon return to the Bount, narrowed upon those darkly browns. “To be a hero is to commend yourself to an early death. For to be one, you have to be willing to sacrifice your very life. And don’t for an instant try to tell me that your doll enacted such a sacrifice.” His voice darkened. ”It’s life hangs upon your thread and yours alone. It enacted an act of self preservation. And that preservation stems from you. Your doll may have it’s own personality, ambitions and dreams but in the end it’s still a part of you. And if it’s life truly didn’t come first, it would never have done what it did.”

“You’re a Bount, your power comes from them and you’ve clearly neglected that power. You say that you had no idea that your Doll would do such a thing. Which clearly illustrates my point. So you can carry that sword and wave it around, pretending to be a Shinigami. But you’ll always be just like that blade if you do. A fake, a pretender trying to play hero. So be the real thing Luke. Show me your resolve. Prove it to me. Prove that you’re willing to sacrifice everything you are and could be for anothers tomorrow.”

"Prove it to us." A gentle voice rang out. Luke would recognize that silvery tone as it escaped soft lips. She would appear naked before the boy. Her delicate and pale form basked in the bioluminescent glow of her territory. Wolven ears pivoted and a snow white tail shifted as she stood beside her Reaper. Silver hairs danced in the wind as silver eyes stood glowing in that darkly aura. Her fingers outstretched caressing the very blade that shared her name.

A white mist would slowly begin to envelope the area. Masking the three in a cloud as it spread a quarter of a mile around the entirety of the clearing. Another Mark of Fate would appear over the back of Luke's neck as the mist began to dull the three's vision. Aevus and Lumina awaited Luke's final words and readied to face his resolve within that permeating white shroud.

Technique Description and Effects:

The user releases their reiatsu into the air, permeating the surroundings with their spiritual pressure. Rather than suffocating the opponent and bringing them to their knees in the presence of the user’s spiritual pressure, a thick mist is formed instead. The mist takes one whole post to form completely. When it does, both the user and the opponent have their sight dulled by the thick mist that forms. Within the mist, one can only see two feet in front of them. Energy sensory is also dulled, unless one has a sensory greater than 200. The class of the technique depends on area the mist spreads to. Ten meters around the user requires 100 reiatsu. Two hundred meters around the user requires 200 reiatsu. A quarter of a mile or about 400 meters around the user will use up 400 reiatsu. For each post that the technique remains active, the user must pay 50 extra reiatsu.

How to use technique:

Release reiatsu as though one was trying to use the gravitational force to crush the opponent with their spiritual pressure and activate the technique.

Drawback:

There are no drawbacks other than the reiatsu drain to keep the technique active.

What Aevus said...there was truth to the words. His reaction to what Luke declared was surprising. Even the Bount, inexperienced as he was, saw the shift in Aevus. He saw the cracking of the ice. The weakness in the armor. Something about what he had said had disturbed the man. Luke simply watched Aevus and tried to understand why he had had that reaction. The Bount narrowed his eyes as he analyzed the Shinigami, trying to figure him out. Why did Aevus look at him like Luke was a ghost? For a few moments there was silence. The only sound came from the flutters of the black ribbons that hung from the pommels of those floating swords. Luke remained still, staring ahead at Aevus. What would the Shinigami do, he had wondered. How would he respond?

The response he got was...unexpected. The Shinigami immediately tried to deny Luke's claim that he saw Aevus as a hero. He tried to use the excuse that he was a killer. He asked Luke if he knew just how many Bount had been killed by Shinigami. In truth...Luke didn't care. Luke was a poor excuse for a Bount. He didn't care about the Bount as a whole. In truth, he felt he might have despised the race he belonged to. A race of beings that fed on humans and others to prolong their own immortality. How could Luke like something like that? He'd seen what the effects of over feeding had done to others. Luke may have had Bount blood flowing through his veins, but his heart was still very much human. But Luke knew that wouldn't matter to some Shinigami. It was why he kept his racial identity a secret when he could. So then why...

Why did you save me that night? I don't care if you're a killer. You risked your life to save me, and Impossible, that night. And though you had no reason to...you still came to me. Even finding out I was Bount, you betrayed the Soul Societies rules to meet with me. You trained me, helped me get stronger. It was more than just saving my life. You've helped me more than anyone else. You're a hero to me, regardless of what you are. Luke wondered, the Bount unaware of the effects of the mark of fate.

Aevus continued to scold him. He threw words like knives, aiming to stab Luke's conviction and determination. What Aevus was saying was right. There was nothing incorrect about what he was saying. If Luke was to become a hero, his life would be short. He would be someone who would always be on the front lines. He would be someone who would have to be willing to sacrifice his life for another's. Aevus continued to drill. He continued speaking. This time about Springflut's action and what it didn't mean. You're right. Springflut didn't do that for that reason. He didn't want me to die. He wanted to live. We both wanted to live. Luke confessed, silently to himself, as Aevus continued to drill. The Bount closed his eyes, furrowing his brow as his mentor and friend continued to scold him.

Grinding his jaws together, Luke wasn't sure yet how to respond. Clenching his right hand into a fist, Luke was assaulted with memories. He saw the faces of the people who had died just so he could live. The coworkers eaten by the Hollow. The coworkers killed by the Bount hunting for him. The Quincy he couldn't save from that woman. The sight of Luis's bodiless head and that crimson skinned witch with a blood dripped sword. And then the wave. That battle. "It isn't foolishness." Luke suddenly replied, clenching his jaws back shut as he forced his words out. Looking back up at Aevus, the Bount knew how to answer. "It isn't foolishness, you bastard!"

"It's making things right! So what if I die early? So what if I have to give up my own happiness to do this? I refuse to live a life that's built on the bodies of others! Too many times I've watched others close to me die because I wasn't able to do anything! I refuse to simply shrug off the loss of those lives!" Luke shouted. "Too many people have been hurt and killed because of me. What am I supposed to do? Walk it off? No. Aevus, I don't plan on walking around the fucking city wearing some cape and telling people it's gonna be okay! I'm going to make amends for the things I've done! The only thing I CAN do is protect and save as many people as I can. I have to put a stop to people like those Quincy! Protect as many as I can, and let them live their lives smiles even if it costs me my own. That's the only way forward for me!" Luke replied, even as Aevus finished what he had to say.

Lumina's appearance surprised Luke for a moment. He was to prove his resolve to them? Luke frowned, glaring at the pair for a moment before suddenly drawing Mūnran'nā with one clear movement. "I lost my left arm saving someone. And I haven't regretted it." Luke said, outstretching his arm and holding Mūnran'nā out to them. He was like this sword? A pretender? A fake? Grinding his jaws together as he considered this action for a moment Luke sent the surge of reiatsu to the weapon. He needed to do this. Aevus was right. He used Decapitation Strike, but instead of firing it out as a attack...the weapon exploded in a brilliant display of crimson light. The light and smoke obscured Luke from the pair for a moment, and when the Bount came back into view the results of that action were clear. The sword was gone.

Destroyed by overloading it with such violent reiatsu, Luke was disintegrated Mūnran'nā. Only a few sparking fragments were left. His right hand, having been at the epicenter of that explosion, was shredded and burned. It twitched in pain, as Luke brought his hand close his body. "I won't be a fake. I won't be a pretender. I will walk this path. It doesn't matter how much it hurts...or how much I lose Aevus...because this is the right thing to do." Luke explained, as particles of light began flowing from the air itself into his hand. Illuminated with that light, the injuries to his hand were healed, as cords of reishi stitched the wounds back together and replaced the damaged skin. Clenching his healed hand, Luke's glare had become hardened.

"I'll prove this to you. Because you're the only person I need to prove it to. Because you're the person I need to surpass!" Luke shouted as his reiatsu suddenly surged. Stretching his hand out and aiming it at Aevus, the Bount's reiatsu flared up once more. "Ziege Dich!" Luke shouted. And, as if on cue, there was a sudden explosion of light around the Bount followed by a loud ringing sound. As fast as it appeared it was gone. Standing over the Bount was the behemoth itself. Ceaseless water flowed from his body, pooling onto the ground at his and Luke's feet. "Hmph." Springflut grunted, placing a hand on his knee as he pushed himself to his full height.

The giant Dolls tail swung behind him, leaving behind echoes of his tail formed from water that fell to the ground below. "This song and dance again?" Springflut asked, the question directed at all of them. Those five eyes rested themselves on Lumina and Aevus. Springflut was impressed, in truth. He hadn't seen Luke have such iron determination before. This wasn't survival either. This was the Bount finally finding a path. His determination wasn't shaky. His will was absolute. So Springflut would fight for Luke. The Bount recognized this. But Springflut was not the only one that had been summoned. "Kekekeke." Came that laughter from seemingly nowhere. Jäger had been called forth as well. He was already at work.

String of light formed a transparent sword in Luke's hand. Advanced Air Arsenal was used to give himself a weapon. Let's go! Luke commanded. Springflut buckled his legs, and lunged. Charging forward like a bull, the Doll launched itself into the air and brought both arms back behind its head. Grabbing ahold of his own fists, the Doll aimed to slam those fists right into Aevus and Lumina. As he travelled, echoes of water were left behind each time his body left the space it occupied. Springflut was already causing a small flood to form. But that would need to be worried about later, since the Shinigami and Spirit would need to respond to the 2500lb Doll aiming to smash itself into them.

Ungesehen (Unseen) - This is a passive ability, available to Jäger at all times. It suppresses his reiatsu signature, rendering it incapable of being detected by anyone except those who have superior Energy Sensory to his Reiatsu Strength. This alone is potent. However, it also augments his Overall Ability, causing shadow form objects to vanish from energy sensory in the same manner. However, regardless, Jäger is capable of tracking those objects with his own energy sensory.

Drawbacks: Jäger can still be detected by sight when it is in it’s hunter form, regardless of people’s energy sensory. The same holds true for shadow form objects. Additionally, if someone has superior RS then this ability is also negated. This ability instantly docks 350 reiatsu from Jäger’s pool once he is are released.

There was a great fire in those brown eyes. Fire that burned against the cold air. It shrieked and wailed from the young man like a banshee. It was nothing but deaf to the ears yet his words spoke for them. That scream that sheltered from that gaze was a silent and honest one. Full of guilt and blind heroism. Those browns burned against his icy gaze. Ever fearful they might melt, the Shinigami almost looked away but he couldn’t... He couldn’t look away.

Aevus? Lumina’s voice echoed within the Reaper’s mind. Aevus was ever so silent to his Spirit’s call. He said nothing. For there was nothing he could say. It wouldn’t change anything. Luke wouldn’t change his mind. The ghostly image of a dead child seemed to echo within that brown gaze. And for moment he thought he saw her. He swore he could see those stealthy teal eyes within those raging browns looking back at him. That burning passion burning ever bright. With an unwavering and untampered will.

The draw of that artifical Zanpakuto caused Lumina to snarl under her breath. Even in her human form, she had animalistic tendencies. It’s draw and Lumina’s growl brought Aevus back to the present. The surging power erupted like a flame. Lumina’s fingers felt out the coldness of her blade as she witnessed the breaking of that heated weapon. Aevus witnessed it as well. It cracked and shattered like shards of broken ice. Until melting away into nothing from the very flames that it was fed.

The fake that once replaced Lumina... Was gone. The weapon that once bonded Aevus with Luke... was now broken. Destroyed thusly by the hardened hands of a boy, Aevus wouldn’t lie and his eyes showed that shock. He was surprised that Luke was willing to go this far. To break the weapon he had used for months. He had bled to learn it’s name. And now... Now it was gone. Lumina herself could care less. The blade meant nothing to her after all and she held nothing but contempt for the broken blade. But still... She knew it meant something to the boy.

"I won't be a fake. I won't be a pretender. I will walk this path. It doesn't matter how much it hurts...or how much I lose Aevus...because this is the right thing to do. I'll prove this to you. Because you're the only person I need to prove it to. Because you're the person I need to surpass! Ziege Dich!"

Surpass me...

The mist had nearly blanketed over everything as Luke ended his speech. It began to veil the world in a shroud of pale and somber gray. Yet under the light of the moon. It took on a more bluish tone subverting the dullness of that color. And within it’s make, he could still see the summoning of that creature. That monster... Springflut. And how could he not see it? It rose from that cold mist like a towering demon. And it was a massive beast. Staring at the two with those five glowing eyes.

Lumina couldn’t help but shiver in the presence of the Doll. She knew not to underestimate the monster and readied herself alongside Aevus for the it’s descent. The creature was unrelenting before and it had shown little if no mercy to her. She could still feel the cold embrace of it’s drowning waters. It was a terrifying thought and fear shone clearly within those silver eyes. Not again... She told herself. Not ever again. Lumina repeated. She refused to fall into it’s grip.

To be pummeled into the dirt like she was nothing. She refused to lose again. To fall again. She would show that monster her fangs. Show it the sharpened edge of her Zanpakuto. Her fingers crept along the handle of her blade as she eyed the beast. Holding the blade out to her side. Aevus on the other hand began to tap his Zanpakuto almost casually. Any other moment like this, the Shinigami would have smiled. He would had lost himself in it. But in a fight like this...

"This song and dance again?"

The Doll was right. This was to be their dancing ground. But it would not be a pretty one and Lumina relished at the thought of cutting into the Doll. A laughter came seemingly from nowhere, drifting into ear shot. Aevus could hear the strange creature and so could Lumina. Her white wolven ears twitched and perked.
Aevus, what is that? Lumina’s eyes darted back and forth as she searched her surrounding and yet she saw nothing.
His other Doll. Be ready for it Lumina

The two stood side by side, surrounded by the veil of that permeating mist. It was a technique refined for assassinations. To attack unnoticed and with keen precision. Aevus was an Onmitsukido and he knew it well. And even though he lacked the senses to see clearly in that mist. He and Lumina could still sense Luke thanks to him being Marked. They could also close the distance faster than Luke and his Dolls could blink. Even with their vision dulled, the two could still hear the rushing of moving water.

They could hear the thunderous movements of Springflut as he leapt into the air. The water it left behind began to fall like rain. And with that warning the two leapt backwards in unison. Aevus was aware of the echoes of water that erupted from the creatures body as it moved. The power it wrought in weight alone could easily bring both him and his spirit down with one mighty blow. Instead of flipping upon the ground like Aevus, Lumina took to the skies, utilizing airground.

Aevus would Mark the Doll’s heart immediately upon dodging it’s massive attack. Sliding upon the ground with sandaled feet, he’d catch himself with one hand. The water that surged from the Doll’s body was already starting to become a problem. He didn’t know what powers the creature possessed but he now had the creature pinpointed. And with that six of his phantom Zanpakuto were fired immediately at 600 speed each. All pointed directly at the Doll’s back and his legs within that misty shroud. The very moment Springflut landed, they would strike. Marking the Doll for each blade that managed to hit.

Lumina would take that as an opening. Stepping upon the airground with bare feet. Dancing between surging waters as she shifted her Zanpakuto within her care. A snarl fell into the mind of the beast. And a menacing silver glare sheltered those five glowing eyes. As she attempted to whip her blade across it's right wrist. She'd strike fiercely and without mercy, marking the Doll before retreating back into the mist. Aevus gave no warning as he’d teleport in front of Luke, at the same time Lumina had leapt foreword.

A red thread illuminated the mist, connecting Luke to his very Doll. If the Doll was struck by Lumina's attack, so would Luke. With that impact and the pain he would be in. Aevus would use that moment to his advantage. Unsheathing his Zanpakuto utilizing Shunpo Karin to slash across his very chest with a reverse-gripped uppercut. Marking him in the process. But he would not stay... After that blow, Aevus would Shunpo backwards and upwards into the very heavens. He would appear beside Lumina overlooking that misty battlefield with a cold hearted gaze.

Springflut's attack had been one where he intended to use both his weight, the speed of his leap, and the strength of his slam to cause a radius of earth shattering damage. But while Springflut made Luke look like a snail in terms of speed, Aevus and Lumina were still faster. And, hidden in that mist, they held the distinct advantage over him. This annoyed the giant. They fought like cowards. They hid in the shadows like that sneaking slime, aiming to attack when he was most vulnerable. Chipping and pecking away at him until he finally fell. Where was the fun in a fight like that? Where was the enjoyment in fighting like a coward? The giants attack shattered the earth, causing a crater to form beneath him, but he was not done. Because Aevus had launched an attack at him, but the Doll was not dumb. It had seen Aevus fight before. It expected an attack on its bare back. In fact, he'd have been disappointed had Aevus not done so.

That massive tail suddenly lashed out as those swords neared their target, swinging itself downwards and causing not just water to be flung, but the very force of that tails swing caused the very air itself to become a weapon for him. As if he breathed a hurricane into existence. A blast of air, a shockwave, came into existence when he swung his tail, causing those phantom blades that flew towards him to suddenly be blown off their targets or destroyed. Smashing the ground beneath it, his tail bounced back up, leaving more trails of its echo splashing to the ground, as the Doll looked right and left to see if anything else was coming. In those moments he truly came to detest the fog that was clouding his vision. That irritation gave birth to an idea, but one that would have to wait.

It had to wait because he suddenly heard the wolven spirits snarl within his mind. Where was she coming from? He did not know. He merely knew she was coming. His instincts screamed to react. But how could he? No doubt those two sneaksters could detect his presence within this mist. Not like he was a hidding sort anyways. His size, the water, it all made it hard for him to remain hidden. Unlike the other one. Fine. He decided. If Lumina wanted to come to him he'd allow it. But she'd regret it. The muscles in his upper back, shoulders, arms, suddenly bunched and bulged like a collection of thick tree roots all wrapped around each other, accompanied by a crunching sound as they did. "Hrmph!" The Doll grunted as he lifted both of those arms in the air, fingers curled into tight fists. A roar escaped that mouthless head as he slammed himself downwards, colliding his fists with the earth yet again. But, this time, all his power had been packed into one point. The result was catastrophic.

It was like a missle hit the ground. The explosion of force blasted away the fog so quickly it was as if it never existed. The ground a good distance around Springflut cracked and shattered, exploding upwards into a rain of rock and debris. The shockwave of force went all around him, blasting the earth away from him in a circular shape. Lumina, if she pressed her attack, would be smashed into by this exertion of force. What sort of damage it would do to her was hard to say. The difference in their physical strengths was a gap so vast she would never be able to match him. His strength could destroy her. She knew this. She acknowledged this. That's why Lumina was afraid of Springflut's grip. She knew once those fingers clutched her she could not escape. But now Springflut was strong enough that his strength was not just contained within his massive body. If she was hit by that shockwave, there was a good chance even her spiritual body would be broken.

Luke was shaken a bit by just how strong Springflut actually was. This was his first time seeing the Doll actually displaying his full strength. But he didn't have the time to actually comment or react to it. Because as Springflut reacted to Lumina and Aevus's attacks, the latter was attacking Luke. He appeared before the Bount like a phantom, Luke felt a surge of reiatsu in Aevus's arm that was gripping his sheathed sword. Luke realized what he was doing. He'd sparred with Aevus enough times to recognize Aevus's signature draw slash. Considering how fast Aevus was, however, Luke would be hard pressed to counterattack. All he would be able to do was dodge. In the moments between that sword cutting deep into Luke, the Bount utilized the Step Technique Schiene to move backwards at 7x his speed. Reappearing a few feet away, Luke blinked as he felt the sting in his chest.

Looking down for a split second, Luke saw the light cut through his clothes and in his flesh. Even using Schiene he hadn't been fast enough to avoid the full blow, meaning while the worst of the sword cut had been dodged he hadn't avoided being marked. But, his technique had caused a reaction. Springflut, from where he was, had noticed something. Something rather disturbing. The Doll blinked, before turning its head so its furthest back eye could see Luke. What had just happened? Springflut looked away for a moment, still unsure of what had just happened. But something was for sure. Some of his reiatsu was just lost. Why? He didn't know.

Luke readjusted his grip on his air sword as he looked up at Aevus, who stood upon the airground. Grinding his jaws together, the same determination and fire that was inside his eyes earlier still burned brightly. "Aevus.." Luke growled to himself. Jäger, what are you.. Luke began to question. "Don't get your nipples leaking. I'm already on them, hehe." The Doll replied. He wasn't wrong. When Jäger was released, he had initially infected Luke's shadow with his abilities. But at night Luke's infected shadow was in contact with the dark, meaning Jäger had spread everywhere upon release. Aevus and Lumina, who had been on the ground at the time and in that very darkness, had been infected as well. The darkness that covered their bodies from the night was now a spawning ground for Jäger.

"What? Do you intend to stand and stare all night, boy?" Springflut suddenly bellowed upwards towards Aevus. The Doll shifted where he stood, water now spilling over the edges of the crater. "You think remaining in the heavens will keep you safe from me? You're a fool if you think so." The Doll growled, before pointing an arm at Aevus. His index finger was curled backwards, held back by the thumb, as if he was preparing to flick something. His finger flicked out a moment later, and with it was a explosion of air that fired itself at Aevus like a missile. A shockwave fired from the flick of a finger. How would the Shinigami react to it? That was what Springflut wanted to see.

Luke, though, remained with his eyes locked onto Aevus. The words he said to the Shinigami still rung in his ears. What he said was not wrong. Luke would become the thing he said he would. He'd become a hero that would save as many as he could. He'd become a hero that would protect as many as he could. He would kill if needed. There were some in this world that only death would stop. Some people could only be saved through the death of another. He was already a murderer. He would need to accept that. He'd become a hero to make things right to the people who lost their lives around him.

Lumina’s feet planted atop the air ground. Air brushed brushed against her naked body, causing her silver hairs to be blown backwards. Her tail pivoted to right as she turned. Retreating immediately as she felt the force of that strength begin to take the world by storm. It fell to the ground like a thunderclap. A barrage of dirt, rocks and water flew forth as the Wolven Spirit fled away from that towering monster. She winced as a rock flew past her cheek. Skidding against her skin and drawing fresh blood.

The force from that rock alone, caused her ears to perk and her hairs to rise on end. She wasn’t like Aevus... She had a hard time hiding her fear. Her tail hung between her legs as she stood almost shivering within that sky. Oh how she wanted to best that monster. To dig her blade into it’s chest. But no, things could never be that easy. Aevus had connected the two. And that, that complicated things. Aevus... Aevus didn’t answer as he appeared alongside his spirit.

She wasn’t surprised. It was just like him to leave her in the dark. To not answer her at all. But that wasn’t it at all. The Pale Faced Reaper was lost in thought. His eyes darted to the large crater the doll had made. It was much larger than the one it had made that first night. Was it stronger now? Or was it holding back before? No... He remembered how Luke had to stop the Doll. It had certainly gotten a lot stronger than before. It was also smarter than he had originally thought.

He had always pictured the creatures as no more than animals really. Beasts brought out and tamed by their vampiric masters. But this one. This Doll had both defended itself, attacked and removed the fog from it’s very surroundings in a single action. The bladed echos of his Zanpakuto had sunk into the very depths of that crater. If Lumina was any closer, she would have been taken out. Lumina knew that fact very well as her silver gaze fell to that large beast. No doubt she was thinking of ways to get around it. To slip through it’s defenses and bring it down.

And she was. But she was hesitant. Her fingers traced the length of her Zanpakuto as she eyed that red glowing thread. She wasn’t the most fond of the boy. She had even despised those diseased browns once before. But only because he held the weapon that once replaced her. And like that blade, she thought Luke too had taken her place. In the end, she was just a jealous foolish girl. Like her body, how she felt was always out in the open. It was impossible to hide anything... Yet still, Aevus always seemed to not see what was clearly right in front of him. Unless of course it was in the middle of a battle.

The other Doll, Lumina. Mark it, the moment you see it. Yes of course... Those would be the words to falter into her mind. Strategizing and fighting on his toes. It was just like him. Her wolven ears pinned against her head from his lack of concern. Her tail hung almost defeatingly. She didn’t know what Aevus expected of her. Did he want her to attack? Did he want her to stand by idly and watch for the other Doll. She couldn’t read his mind. Of course she understood the subtle nuances of his soul. The stir of his emotions.

She knew the coldness and wintery bite of her inner world too well. The ways the waters froze and the wind nipped her silvery furs. She remembered shivering from that cold. It was all too consuming. To be left alone in that world of a silent Shinigami. Who couldn’t even open up to a piece of himself. But outside, she had nothing to work with. She couldn’t hate him for it. She’d never hate him. But she didn’t understand it either. Perhaps Aevus thought she could read his mind. If only she could...

"What? Do you intend to stand and stare all night, boy?"

Her silver eyes shot back to reality. Yet just like wiping clear a fogged mirror. Everything was still a little blurred. She could see herself in the reflection of those waters. She could also see her Zanpakuto floating idly within it’s make. Yet she spotted something strange. A ripple hinted at something within those overflowing waters. Aevus didn’t seem to care about Springflut’s words nor did he react to them. He stood idly against the backdrop of those darkly heavens, staring at the Doll with those cold blues.

"You think remaining in the heavens will keep you safe from me? You're a fool if you think so."

Lumina’s snarl fell back into the mind of the Doll. From that shock wave earlier the Doll had shown great strength and overwhelming power. A formidable and powerful monster. intelligence shimmered past those glowing irises as it rose it’s arm to the Reaper. It wasn’t just a beast anymore and Aevus seemingly had underestimated it. But had he? The Doll would feel it as two blades pierced into his very legs. The blades being submerged underwater, the Doll would possibly be caught off guard.

And with that four blades erupted from the waters surrounding the Doll all at once. One moved faster than the others. Fired at six thousand speed. It aimed to pierce into the Doll’s forearm arm that was pointed towards the Reaper. Hopefully the force would be enough to shift the aim of the creature and offset the trajectory of it's shockwave. If not he'd have to dodge. The others cut through the air at six hundred speed, attempting to dig into it's very flesh. One aimed for his other arm. And the last two, attempted to strike between his shoulder blades.

It was true, Springflut was intelligent. He was able to fend himself from the Reaper and Lumina. But he had also created a large crater. From which an an amass of water was able to fill. Destroying one smokescreen but resulting in anothers birth. Aevus had a small understanding of Springflut’s power. He knew the creature created large volumes of water every time it moved. He wasn’t foolish enough to fight on the ground or even close to him for that matter.

His cold gaze was unwavering as he attempted to impale the Doll like he were but a Hollow. Heh and not much separated him from those Masked Fiends. A flicker of black spread across his visage as he felt a grin begin to take hold. He wasn’t supposed to be enjoying this. But well, part him couldn’t help it. “Easy prey~” Aevus found himself repeating those hollow words. Lumina's ears shifted looking at the Reaper as he spoke. ...Aevus

It was at that moment that everything clicked. It was when that sword came bursting out of the water that what happened earlier made sense. When Springflut let out that sudden roar from pain, and Luke grasped his own arm as the injury appeared on him as well, that they realized what was happening. Luke grasped the sudden hole that appeared in his arm, and the injuries that suddenly opened in his legs, trying to stop the stream of crimson that was escaping from the injury. Springflut, being a Doll and therefore lacking blood, didn't react as Luke did. They both had been caught off guard by Aevus's attack and even injured by it. But the attack wasn't done yet. Not just yet. Because it wasn't just one sword that Aevus had fired at them, but four.

Only one had moved at 6000 speed. The others were moving at 600. Both Springflut and Luke recognized the attack. Springflut's shockwave attack had been hampered by Aevus's attack. The sudden sword in his arm caused his attack to be fired off course. The destructive wave of physical energy simply blasted past Aevus. But Springflut didn’t have time to try firing another blast at Aevus, because he had the other swords to deal with. What was he going to do about the other four swords? Springflut’s size was too great for him to slip through them with his speed. There was, actually, only one thing he could do.

But before Springflut reacted, Aevus had allowed what was inside of him to flicker outwards for a moment. "Easy prey." he would say with a grin, his attention focused on the oversized Doll and Luke. "I know right?" Aevus, and Lumina, would suddenly hear. But even as those words would fill their ears, Aevus would feel the horrible pain exploding from both sides of his torso. With his attention focused on the other two, he wouldn't notice what was, weightlessly, coming out of his back. The other Doll, Jäger, was coming out from Aevus's very back. Both of his hands grabbed onto the sides of Aevus's torso, shoving his talons through clothes and skin and into the mans very body. Just as Aevus dealt a blow to Luke and Springflut, Jäger would deal his own to Aevus. But he didn't stick around, because once he made his attack the Doll activated Rückzug. When Lumina and Aevus would have turned to look to see the Doll, it would have already been gone.

That was because Rückzug was Jäger's own Step technique. But it didn't have a speed multipler like most did. When used, the Doll would instantly return to the shadows he had infected. But when did Aevus become infected? Simple. When Luke had released. Jäger's natural ability worked by first infected Luke's own shadow and then moving on from there to other shadows that were touched. But at night? Where darkness covered every surface including Aevus? Jäger was already everywhere. He knew he'd only be able to appear on Aevus once before the Shinigami would come to expect him doing so again. He had chosen a very good moment to make his move. Two deep wounds left on both sides of Aevus's torso that felt as if dried ice was being shoved into his skin...and that sensation was spreading! If Aevus looked he would see his torso steadily becoming transparent and shaded as if he were becoming a shadow himself. And during this moment of distraction, while Springflut was still being attacked by those swords, what did he do? He chose to make his move.

The Doll’s legs tensed up with muscles before he would suddenly lunged himself forward, as those swords neared him, and Luke would realize what Springflut was doing. ”Absturz!!” The Doll shouted as he seemingly exploded into a massive body of water. Through the use of his technique, Springflut’s body became a wave of water that rushed forward, propelled by his strength and the 4x boost in his speed. But more than that, was that despite being turned into water Springflut was still producing Water Echoes! This meant that the wave of water that was rushing at Aevus with 800 Strength and 2400 Speed was possessing an ever increasing water weight of tens of thousands of pounds.

A literal tsunami. A literal tsunami was heading towards Aevus and Lumina. It would be easy for them realize now just how Springflut had done all that damage to Karakura. Luke stood, wide eyed, as he saw that attack again. Was it fine for him to use it? They were miles away from the city, but the memories of what that attack had done to the city were something he saw every time he slept. The attack would have rendered Springflut completely impervious to the swords that Aevus had fired at him The wave of water reached into the air, swallowing up where Aevus and Lumina were standing, before all came crashing down.

The ground rumbled and shook when tens up tens of thousands of pounds of water just came crashing down. Trees were uprooted, swept away, crushed, and the clearing and surrounding forest seemingly became a lake. Luke, who had been behind Springflut, was fine as he had taken to the air during the attack. Even out here in the middle of nowhere, Springflut was able to change the landscape once he had begun to get serious. And speaking of the Doll, a single large waterfall coming out of the sky displayed where he was. He stood in the air, on top of Airground, looking around for Aevus and Lumina as he swung his head back and forth.

Wow… Luke exclaimed as he looked at what Springflut’s step technique had done. ”Don’t stand around awestruck stupid!” Jäger suddenly commented. Luke realized he was right. Returning his attention to the fight, the Bount placed his hand on the still bleeding hole in his arm. He had come to realize it when Springflut had been hit and when the Doll had used his technique. They were connected. No doubt the mark that Aevus had placed on him had something to do with this connection.

Lukes own reiatsu had been taken away when Springflut had launched his attack. He had been hurt when Springflut was hurt. And more than that, he could feel the Dolls emotions on a more indepth level than he normally could. He could feel Springflut’s pain. He could feel how the Doll was annoyed at being hurt, annoyed at Aevus for hurting him. They were connected. Springflut. You know what’s going on right? Luke asked. ”Yes, idiot. When either of us uses reiatsu it will affect the other. Our injuries are also shared. His power is...god damn fucking annoying.” Springflut cursed. ”He’s strong. No doubt about that.”

Luke focused. He knew Springflut would be mad about losing reiatsu, but Luke needed to deal with this. Reaching out with his conscious, Luke felt the reiatsu around him. He began to take it in, absorbing it into himself and causing a light green aura to surround his figure. The injury itself began to to become illuminated as well as tendrils of light began stitching the injury back together. Springflut blinked as he looked down at his own arm and saw his own wound closing up. So the connection extended to healing as well?

{Rückzug}
Rückzug (Retreat) - This technique allows Jäger greater mobility than before, which is rather impressive. When this technique activates, Jäger instantly dissipates, melding back into the shadow it came from instantly, ignoring the usual fade time, and appears instantly from another location that it has infected. This alone gives Jäger a lot more defensive power than before, as well as a lot more offensive power since it can sneak attack foes in a blink, even if those foes were in the middle of an attack against it. However, the thing that makes this technique truly powerful is that it can be prepared in advance, keyed in order to trigger the second certain conditions are met. To do this, Jäger must pay the reiatsu cost, as well as an additional 100 reiatsu, and set the condition under which the technique will activate. Then, if during the next three posts, that condition comes to pass, then the technique will trigger, and Jäger will be capable of re-positioning.

Drawbacks: This technique costs 150 reiatsu to use, and can only be used once per post. Normal usage of the technique is limited by Jäger’s reaction time. If prepared in advance, Jäger must be capable of anticipating a foes actions. If the condition doesn’t occur in the three post limit, then Jäger loses the reiatsu paid, he doesn’t get any of it back.

{Absturz}
Absturz (Crash) - Devastation. That is how this technique would be summarized in one word. For an instant, Springflut turns entirely into water, retaining it’s vague shape, but losing it’s solidity, and then moves at 4x speed in a direction of it’s choice. That’s right, this is a step technique, but one where the person using it is a massive wall of water capable of shattering almost anything in it’s path. And, of course, the Water Echo means that it deposits a massive amount of water in it’s path. At any point during this motion, Springflut can become solid again. In fact, it can re-solidify anywhere along the path it just traveled. The water, of course, retains it’s momentum regardless.

Drawbacks: This technique is slower than most step techniques, and costs 3 times as much, 150 reiatsu. It can only be used once a post, and only a total of six times per thread, resetting upon an extended rest. Beyond that, the technique is simply high speed movement, there’s nothing complex about it, and although it can be used offensively, it has no inherent offensive properties.

“Easy prey~”

There was a focus in those cold eyes as he spoke those hollow words. Words that mirrored a darkly golden eyed vulpine, who slithered forth within the Reaper’s inner world. But at that moment, they felt as if they were his own. As if he fully understood what he was. The pleasures of sinking his blades into the flesh of a monster. It almost consumed him entirely. And that black would have it wasn’t for that voice. "I know right?" His eyes widened but his body didn’t move.

A cold chill ran up his spine as he realized what he had done. It was quick and time seemed to freeze for the Reaper, as the shadowy beast of a doll attacked him. Not a whimper nor a peep left her trembling lips. Lumina had acted upon sheer instinct. Marking Aevus with a flash and brush of her tail. And as those talon like fingers dug into her dear Shinigami, a red thread formed. She winced as she felt the shadow’s grip dig into her waist. It was agony and yet she forced her own silence by bitting down on her lip.

‘The other Doll, Lumina. Mark it, the moment you see it.’ Those words echoed within her mind as her eyes clenched shut from the pain. As she tore down at her own lip. And before that damn shadow could escape, a mark appeared against it’s right shoulder. It all happened within an instant and Aevus didn’t have time to understand what had just happened. Lumina wasn’t done. She took hold of the Reaper as a blade formed and shot out into the forest behind them.

It dug itself into the top of a tree trunk at six thousand speed. Aevus fell from the tree from surprise. His body falling against the many branches until grabbing ahold of one with a tight knit grip. Lumina on the other hand, landed almost gracefully. Her hand wrapping around the handle of her Zanpakuto as she landed on her feet like a cat on the closest branch. Amidst her landing, Lumina’s wolven ears twitched. A tidal wave shook the earth drenching the forest with it’s crashing waters.

At this distance they were safe for the time being. But it’d only be a short time til they were found. Her fingers grasped at her side. She felt cold as if winter had taken her. It reminded her of home. She winced at how fragile her body was. Looking at the blood upon her hands. She held back a whine taking a breath. The wolven spirit had felt every single branch Aevus managed to hit. A tide pooled and pulled against the tree as she kneeled peering down into those half open blues of her Reaper.

The darkness was fleeing from his visage but they were still as cold as they ever were. Aevus would gaze up into those silver eyes. “Lumina-” Aevus paused with a grunt. “Did you mark it?" She’d look askance shivering from the bite of those festering wounds. It was hard to hide her pain but she’d return to his gaze with a narrowed one of her own. “Your eyes back there. They wern’t your own. They were beginning to eclipse...” Like two full moons her eyes shimmered. “You were even starting to sound like her. You were looking at Luke, the same way you look at our targets. Like you were going to kill him...”

Aevus grimaced at those words forcing his eyes away from his Spirit causing her to pout. He hated the way she looked at him with those sad eyes. But she was right... Whenever he couldn’t face something. He took to the embrace of that Hollow. It’s influence hid his questioning emotions, his guilt and his empathy. It let him let go of his own heart for a time. Unlike his peers, he wasn’t made out for this kind of work and he knew it. Even those who deserved it... Their deaths weighed heavily on his consciousness. Yet part of him smiled whenever he killed. And that’s what frightened him the most.

“Maybe we should stop...” He would let out a frustrated sigh. “I have it under control." He lied causing Lumina to whine. His cold eyes drifted to the forest around them. Trees were uprooted, water filled the forest like it was a lake. Just like in the city... Mindless destruction followed the Doll’s wake. Springflut was dangerous but he was also a part of Luke. And part of him had come here tonight to kill that very Doll along with Luke. At least that was his original intention. Now... now he didn’t know anymore.

His free hand clenched into a fist and his other grasped his Zanpakuto ever so tightly. He then felt something wet drip upon his brow. His gaze shifted upwards as his fingers brushed the wet spot. It was blood and it was fresh. Very fresh... Lumina attempted to cover herself as the Shinigami followed the red thread to her naked form. She was resting against the branch breathing ever so lightly.


“Lumina when did you-”
“It would have gotten you if I didn’t.” Lumina interrupted. Her silvers gently faltered before peering back into those cold blues of his. ”But why?” Aevus questioned.
“I just moved." She paused looking into those wide eyes. “This one didn’t- I didn’t know what it was going to do to you. I couldn't just let it hurt you like that...” Her eyelids shut eclipsing her moonlit eyes as she winced in pain. “Why are we really fighting him Aevus? Is this really about his resolve or-" Her wolven ears pinned against her head as Aevus disappeared from her sight. It was just like him to leave without uttering a word.

It’d be like winter had taken over the land as a red thread connected the Bount to his other Doll. A familiar yet strange coldness would suddenly envelope the Bount with an overwhelming and intimidating presence. And he would know what had happened and what that meant. Aevus would appear back to back with the young man. His black robes fluttering from a passing breeze. His glowing eyes shimmering in that dreary darkness. The metallic clicking of his sheathed Zanpakuto could be heard as he held it to his side. His remaining five blades would silently circle the Bount as he spoke.

“Your Dolls, they’re strong. They even almost had me with that attack just now. Heh and they would have if it wasn’t for Lumina.” A half hearted chuckle left his lips. “Your talk about surpassing me, about proving to me that this is the road you need to take. I wonder if you really understand what that means? If you really know the 'hero' you're looking up to?” Aevus’s voice would suddenly darken entering the Bount’s mind, echoing."But regardless, in the end it doesn't really matter how either of us feels about it. Your Doll. it’s power is dangerous. You saw what it did to the city. Look around you Luke, what can that thing protect?"

Aevus would sigh thinking back to that night. He had only seen the tail end of it but he saw the destruction. He saw what Springflut had done and yet... "And yet... it tried to save you, I... tried to save you. All while I let that damn Quincy tear the city apart like it was a playground..." His head hung low as his voice faltered from his very lips. His hand tightened into a fist around the handle of his Zanpakuto. “I came here tonight to execute you Luke."

"I could have killed you the moment I marked you. But your foolish talk about being a hero...” His voice broke and his blade shook within his grasp. Even the phantom echoes of his Zanpakuto shook as they pointed towards the Bount. In one last attempt his blades shot forth. At six thousand speed they fired around Luke. Some missed entirely and yet some would manage to scrape and cut his skin. Yet none dove into his flesh. A single tear edged on a shaky breath. ”I can't do it... It'd be like killing her all over again...”

Brown eyes suddenly widened as Luke silently gasped when he heard the fluttering of fabric behind him. He was keenly aware that Aevus had avoided the tidal wave attack launched at him by Springflut, but how he was managing to stand despite Jäger having injured him was something that puzzled Luke. Luke, and even Jäger, had believed that Aevus had been injured by the Dolls attack, but somehow he was completely fine. The possibility that Aevus could transfer his injuries to other people was suddenly born, and Luke began wondering if Lumina was the one hurt instead of her Shinigami.

Springflut whipped his head around when he became aware of Aevus being behind Luke. But as he began to approach he stopped, noticing from his connection with Luke that the Bount was making no attempt to move away from Aevus. ”The hell are you doing?” Springflut wondered, his eyes focused on the floating swords around his master. Even Jäger was on the move, preparing to lunge out and strike Aevus at a moment's notice. Both the Dolls were ready to spring, but Luke remained still.

His eyes had drifted to the side, his attention held tightly on Aevus as he waited to see what the Shinigami was going to do. The sounds of dragging metal filled his ear as the Shinigami seemed to sheath his sword. Luke raised his eyebrow, confused, but remained quiet as Aevus suddenly began talking again. Luke blinked. Aevus was complimenting his Dolls? But Aevus ended up confirming that it was Lumina who, somehow, took the blow rather than him. It seemed he could transfer injuries from one person to another after all.

But what Aevus had to say next caught the mans breath in his chest. The Shinigamis words filled his mind, reminding Luke about what he already knew. There was no doubt to Aevus’s words. His brown eyes settled on the sizable form of Springflut, who remained standing a distance away with his five eyes locked on the two. Water. It never stopped flowing off of the Doll. Each time he was summoned he changed the landscape of the battlefield. He turned this forest and the flatlands they fought in into a new lake. What Springflut did here was nothing compared to what he had done in Karakura Town. One Doll, one Bount, managed to cause so much destruction in less than a minute.

There was no denying it. Springflut was dangerous. Springflut was destruction incarnate. His very name meant Riptide. He was the destructive force of water itself. Aevus had a point. How could Springflut ever hope to protect anything when simply moving could lead to such destruction. Luke frowned as he felt his fingers tightening together into a fist. No. Even if Springflut was destruction, he had tried to protect Luke. Even Aevus acknowledged this, catching Luke by surprise, and the admission that Aevus had sprung to Luke’s defense as well.

Aevus.. Luke whispered mentally. Sympathy filled him as he turned around to look at Aevus, but he did so when those swords suddenly fired at him. ”Luke!” ”Bastard!!” Both Dolls suddenly screamed, beginning to move, but froze when they saw it. They all saw those swords miss their marks. A few scrapped Luke’s skin deep enough to draw blood, but none actually harmed him. Luke stood, frozen, with shaken breath as he realized what happened. Aevus tried. Aevus had once again tried to do his role as a assassin and enact judgement against Luke. But he couldn’t do it.

Luke’s speech and determination had done something to Aevus. Luke had noticed it earlier, but his declaration of being a hero had triggered something in the man. Luke looked at Aevus, confusion and sympathy mixed together in his expression as he stared at the man he called his friend. Her? Luke wondered, suddenly remembering how Aevus had begun to say something earlier but cut himself off. Closing his lips as a frown formed, Luke shook his head. ”Good grief. Have some faith in the in the guy you trained. I won’t fail.” Luke said, the only words he could find to say to Aevus.

The water met his legs as he stepped into the newly made lake, turning to look back at Aevus for a few more moments before Luke sank beneath the surface. He wasn’t sinking into the water, but the shadows beneath them by using Schatten. He sank into the depths of the shadows and would use them to travel back home. He did so for both traveling ease, and in case Aevus changed his mind. He wouldn’t ask about what Aevus meant by “her”. It was something that was painful for the man. Luke had no intention of asking Aevus to bring up an old injury even more than he already had. He would leave now before Aevus changed his mind.

Springfluts body would illuminate in green light before falling away as if he were dust. Both his and Jägers presences would disappear from Aevus’s senses. The only Mark that remained was the one cut into Luke’s chest. The one that the Bount chose to retain. He chose to keep the mark that was cut into him as insurance. That if were to ever fail in what he promised Aevus, then the Shinigami would be free to come and finish what he intended to begin this night. But Luke left determined. He left with a goal in mind. He left knowing that he could no longer rely on Aevus’s strength. He needed to come to master his own powers and master the power of the Dolls.

”Good grief. Have some faith in the guy you trained. I won’t fail.”

Silence seemed to fall over the land as the Bount left the Reaper with those words. His release would end shortly after, but he would remain there within that clearing. With only the quiet of the night as company. “Aevus-” A silvery voice fell into earshot causing the Shinigami to look back to his Spirit with a tired and tear filled gaze. He was having trouble seeing past that misty visage. And would wipe the tears away with a single movement of his sleeve. “Aevus... What happened? Where’s Luke?”

Aevus would look down, a cold sigh leaving his lips. “Gone.” Lumina’s wolven ears quivered and perked as she stared at the Reaper. “Gone? Aevus, I don’t understand...” The Shinigami would shake his head before looking back to his Spirit with a feigned smile as if he was trying to wash away the entire night. “Don’t worry about it. We should head back, get your wounds taken care of and-" Lumina would frown from those words causing Aevus to stop mid sentence. And he knew. “Aevus... tell me.” She had seen past him in an instant.

He would look away. Her silver gaze was one he just couldn’t hold. Even now he felt those moonlit silvers on him. “You saw what that Doll did that night. You saw the destruction. You must remember how many lives were lost... How many Konsōs were performed that night alone...” Another sigh left him. “Because of that damn Doll, Luke is a danger to everyone around him. A threat in the eyes of Soul Society.” He didn’t have to say anymore, Lumina saw it. She understood why he had come from those words alone. But she was confused and her voice painted that clearly. “Aevus he looks up to you, he’s your fr-”

Yet Aevus would interrupt. “I know...” His voice broke as his eyes faltered to his sandals once more. “But still... keeping him alive goes against everything I was taught to uphold as a Shinigami. I couldn’t just turn my back on it and go on like nothing happened, I had to at least try. Yet I couldn’t do it... I couldn’t uphold the justice of Soul Society.” Narrowed silvers sheltered the Reaper’s melting blues. “Then they’re wrong Aevus... Have you ever considered that?”

He couldn’t hold it. His throat flustered from the raw emotion of it. “Of course I have! You really think I haven’t thought about this!?” Lumina flinched and Aevus’s voice would lower turning into almost a whisper. “The answer is... I don’t know Lumina, I really don’t anymore.” Aevus repeated those words, his eyes trailing to the forest around them. Even now Springflut’s destruction was apparent. Lumina’s stepped closer as the silence between the two began to settle. “Aevus...”

“Tonight reminded me that this could happen to us Lumina... If they found out what I was. They’d hunt us down. There’d be no trial, and they certainly wouldn’t hesitate like I just did.” Another sigh left parted lips as he looked back to his Spirit. Her eyes were wide like two full moons. It was as if she had never even thought about that possibility. Aevus trembled faintly at that realization. Thinking maybe he should have just kept quiet. But he’d continue. ”They’d just see another hollow... Another threat to their society.”

A low whine left the Spirit. “Then... we can go. We can just leave and-”
“And what? Hide? You know as well as I do, how they operate. We’d be labeled as rogues and tracked down like criminals. Sure we’d be fine for a time. But we’d always be on the move and sooner or later they’d find us. And what then? I’d have to kill them and I.... I can’t kill them all.” His fingers stirred to the handle of his sheathed Zanpakuto. Grasping the weapon ever so tightly.

He saw the faces of those in his squad. Shizuyoko and Kimiko were among them. Could he even do it? Could he kill them if had to? No... not without the Hollow’s help. Not without her influence. “Not alone...”
“But you wouldn’t be alone...” Wolven ears lowered and a whine fell from her. Tears shimmered past that narrowed moonlit gaze. And from those tears, a wave of guilt began to the envelope the man. He knew what she meant from that look alone. “No. I wouldn’t let you go that far. ‘It’s’ my burden, not yours.”

“Your burden!?” Lumina’s tail whipped at the air and a growl lifted up from her throat. “It’s mine too... This one is part of you, or have you forgotten that!?” Aevus would turn away his left hand aching as he held the handle of his blade. ”Lumina... Now’s not the time...”
“Isn’t the time? When is?!” Her growl nearly turned into a snarl as she began to pace back and forth. Her tail would thrash at the wind in rhythm with her movements. “And why do you always do that? Why do you turn away when i’m just trying to talk to you!?” Her wolven ears would pin back against her head as she let into her anger. ”Why can’t you face me Aevus...?”

The cold silence bit at the Spirit as she stared at the man red faced. Anger and frustration boiled beneath. Frozen tears were held back by will alone. A low whine replaced that snarl and she would shiver. Her tail hung idly between her legs. “You never even told me why we came out here until now... Aevus what are you so scared of? You know you can tell me anything. You know that... don’t you?” Her voice softened as she attempted to get the Shinigami’s attention. “Whatever it is, we can face it together.”

“You wouldn’t understand.” Clearly irritated Aevus would begin to walk away. Lumina followed after, her gaze beating into his back. She could feel a fire burning up inside as she followed him, and she could barely contain it.
“What wouldn’t I understand?” her growl returned if ever so faint. “What aren’t you telling me Aevus?”
“Drop it Lumina.” His grip tightened ever so, and in a fluid movement his Zanpakuto sung from it’s sheath. Breathing heavily he tried to gather what composure he had left.

Suddenly in a swift motion he would stab into the air. The upper portion of his blade seemingly fading from the world. And with a twist of his blade, he opened the Senkaimon. Lumina inched back at the opening of those folding doors. Her silver eyes straining from the very light escaping that portal. But it didn‘t stop her. “Maybe it’s because you can’t... Or maybe you’re too frightened to face someone you can’t run away from.”
“Shut up...” A couple of Hell butterflies began to fall from the portal and his voice would suddenly darken.

“Or maybe it’s because of ‘her’” Lumina growled under her breath, that snarl once again rising from the very depths of her throat. Her ears perked and her tail flicked irritably. “The ‘Hollow’. Does she still have her claws in you?”
“I said shut up!” Aevus snapped glaring at his Spirit, a stretch of black would consume his visage. Lumina would shoot back a daggered look of her own. “And let you wallow in your own misery?” That snarl lifted, causing the Shinigami to look away from his Spirit once more.

“I wish you would..." He’d whisper under his breath, that black receding from his visage once more. He hated this... He hated this entire conversation. He hated this entire night... Lumina’s fingers curled into fists. “Why are you so stubborn!? You shut everyone out... Going so far as to let that ‘thing’ seduce you. But why? To what end Aevus?” Her entire body trembled as she glared at the Reaper. “When will you see that you don’t have to do everything on your own? That you're not alone anymore!"

The air between the two was bitter and the silence was deafening. It seemed to fall over everything as Aevus stood there nearly motionless. It was as if the words were choked within his throat. “I...” Part of him wanted to say something. To tell her everything but... He was afraid. He was afraid if he said anything... That he’d believe in those nightmares. That in doing so, they'd somehow come true. And so he looked away away from his wounded Spirit.

He couldn’t stand the thought of it. He had to leave her gaze and those shimmering silvers behind. Yet those consuming thoughts seemed to falter as he felt something take him to the ground in an instant. Out of instinct alone, he held his Zanpakuto to the force’s throat. Only stopping when he realized a blade was already pointed to his. Aevus’s eyes would widen. He could see that forlorn expression of his Spirit, as he looked back into that tear filled gaze. “You let down your guard.”

“Lumina...” Her name was the only thing he could find the strength to say as his blade fell from his grasp. He felt her hand curl tightly around his collar. She was trembling as she spoke.“You have to stop...” Her soft breasts pressed against his chest as she pulled closer to him. The edge of that blade nearly nicking his throat. “You have to stop doing everything on your own...” He could feel the beat of her heart increase as she spoke. “Or else ’she’ wins...” Her voice cracked and that whine was ever present even as she removed that all familiar blade from his throat.

She’d rise to her bare feet, her white-ribbon of a tail hanging as if a dead pendulum. Her wolven ears flattened against her very skull, and her Zanpakuto disappeared in show of silvery light. She would stand naked before the ivory light of those folding doors. But a glowing silhouette amidst the ruin of that flooded forest. Holding her right wrist she would look to the waters. “And I can’t stand the thought of you becoming a ‘monster’...” A single tear strode down her face as she would look back to him.

“Lumina... that wont happen.” Aevus spoke, his voice rising above a whisper. A quivering lip rose into a smile as she gazed into his those melting blues. “You fear the same fate for me don’t you?” A silence returned with those words. Seemingly shackling the two in its quiet embrace. “No I-” But the words yet again were seemingly strangled in the back of the Reaper’s throat. Lumina giggled but it was half hearted at best. “You’re a terrible liar Aevus. Your eyes always tell the truth.”

Aevus sighed and Lumina’s silver eyes rose to the moon. She could almost feel the moonlight beaming through the branches on her pale skin. “In truth, I know what she desires.” Within that nightly sky she’d see the swooning dive of an owl as it disappeared into the copse below. With only the cry of some poor rodent to shelter it’s decent. “I know her longing very well...” She shivered. Her naked features seemed more pronounced within the glow of those folding doors. “And I can’t stop ‘her’ from out here.”

She’d hold herself, before peering back into Aevus’s blues. “I just... I just wanted to be free. To see the world as you do.”
“Lumina..." Aevus would slowly rise to his sandaled feet, his fingers wrapping around the handle of his Zanpakuto. He could feel the pain radiating from his Spirit and he could see it. That forlorn expression clinging to her visage. “This one was selfish... so selfish. I left you alone with ‘her’.” A whine fell away from quivering lips.

“No Lumina, you didn’t.” His eyes would narrow on his Spirit ever so softly. “I wanted you to be free just as much as you did.”
“But what about ‘her’?” That silverly voice rose sharply. “Aevus you can’t ignore the 'Hollow’ like you used to anymore...” Her silvers would narrow once more. “No-” Aevus would answer quickly before a sigh left his parted lips. ”No I can't, But when the time comes. I'll stop ‘It’."
“ ‘We’.” Lumina corrected. “When the time comes we’ll stop the ‘Hollow’ together.” Her eyes still shimmered with clinging tears. A frown would plaster the Shinigami’s face as he looked to his spirit. Yet past that frown a small grin perked. “Together.”
