He's been in two fights where simply releasing has drained him of the majority of his reiatsu, with one leaving him in a near death state, where having more spiritual pressure could have saved him.

That's not an in-character reason for changing his stats. That's a mechanical one. One doesn't simply go "I want more Reiatsu but I want to slack on my spiritual power." There has to be some actual showing of him building to it.

"Regretting having not enough" doesn't actually change your character. That's like saying "I regret not being fast enough" and suddenly doubling your speed without any means of developing said speed.

The best way to do it is to have a brief thread showing him discussing his problem and later training to fix it.
