(Training for Aspects of the Predator)
Standing there in one of the forest out in the wilderness of Soul Society was the Captain of Division seven. Kimiko Shihoin one of the youngest Captain in the Thirteen Court Guard Squads. The time was early with the sun yet to rise above the horizon and the darkness still fighting off dawn for as long as it could. She wasn't all that far from the Seireitei only around five hundred miles. A distance that she could keep for awhile without having to worry about someone finding her. Right now was training time and not a training that anyone else could see.
Kimiko had the habit of training by herself due to her inability to train while still holding back. Her Cousin Okami was still recovering from the battle that had commenced against the prisoners of the prison that had broken out. In fact she hadn't been able to train with him even before that, but now it was like he just refused to even train himself. Kimiko didn't know why he was acting this way it certainly wasn't how he normally acted and she knew that. At the same time she didn't know everything that happened during the battle.
Haunzu had been at the battle while she had tracked down the Arrancar that had gone after division fours barracks. Through his eyes she had been able to watch all of the battles unfolding between Soul Society, Las Noches and the prisoners. She had seen foes that she hadn't before and many of them she knew were far more powerful then she was at the moment. That meant a few things. The first was that if Okami wasn't going to train to become powerful enough then that left only her to reach that mark.
She had watched the battle between Okami and Hiroshi and knew everything that had gone done between them other then what exactly had happened after Okami had lost. When that happened the circle disappeared and Hiroshi was able to leave. Kimiko had rushed back towards the battle field and yet not been able to reach them in time. She knew she wouldn't have been able to get to them anyway for the defenses were to strong after a few moments. She had been useless after all of that and she wasn't going to let that happen again.
The Head of the Shihoin family had been defeated and left unable to fight while she had been unable to reach the battle field and finish off Hiroshi herself. She wasn't going to let something like that happen again. That's why she was out here in the forest training. Not by herself though. Kimiko had learned roughly almost two years ago that training by herself was worthless when she needed to gain immense power in a short period of time. She had to always train with her zanpakuto in order to gain true power.
Training this way had been how Kimiko had acquired her immense strength, speed and some of her most potent techniques. However, many of her potent techniques she couldn't use with others around so that's why she was out here now. She had to train with them all again in order to create her own set of Hakuda. All she had been learning were second hand techniques for awhile. All of her original techniques had been created some time ago and she didn't feel that they would be enough to take down Hiroshi when they would clash.
That's what she needed to do and she wasn't going to let it slip through her fingers again. She couldn't use Soulbind with others around it had been the major reason why she had gone away and left Okami to handle Hiroshi. That technique was one that couldn't ever be trusted. Only if she was alone and truly needed the power that kit offered her would she ever willfully go into that form. There wasn't much else that she had other than her Bankai which might be able to pull a few things off against Hiroshi.
She couldn't rely on her zanpakuto and she knew that. Many of the prisoners that she had seen battling at the ruins of the prison didn't rely on their releases. No they were winning and dominating their own battles with unique abilities and techniques that no one else could execute. Just as she had learned her Bankai it was time to listen to Haunzu and learn what it truly meant to be an animal. She would need to be ruthless and vicious in order to destroy Hiroshi and she wasn't going to let anything from letting her reach that point.
Darkness all around her it was as if it was still the middle of the night in appearance. There were leaves scattered across the ground and a small amount of breeze was blowing throughout the forest. "Are you ready to begin my Queen?" spoke Haunzu as he sat in front of her roughly five feet. This one for some reason was the one that was most proficient at helping her train. It wasn't the best at combat nor was it the best at listening or understanding. It simply was the best when it came to helping Kimiko.
The princess and heir of the Shihoin family looked down at the black and grey furred wolf. Her zanpakuto was unlike any other that she knew about in all of Soul Society. A living creature that she could manifest from her own spiritual world. So many of them with their own personalities that all sought to help Kimiko with total loyalty. She also since learning about her zanpakuto felt that she was truly blessed that her zanpakuto was so unique. Even when she hadn't had anyone to talk with or confide in she also had Haunzu and he would always be there for her. (Paragraph 10)
She smiled at Haunzu for a moment as she thought about everything that she had already gone through in order to get to where she was right now. Starting out without any say in how anything was determined. Not even her own life she had any kind of input when it came down to what was actually going to happen. She had pleaded with her father for years to allow her to become a Shinigami and it had always been for nothing. The man was just as stubborn as she was and wouldn't ever allow such a dangerous thing for his daughter.
That had lead to her going behind his back and receiving personal training from one of the elders of the Shihoin family. She had trained in secret and learned that she was different then the majority and was included in the are one percent of Shinigami. She was one that held true potential and power and one day would have influence in her grasp. She had sought out all that she could and reached the level of a graduate from the academy in just short of a year. Then all she had done was train her younger sister personally for the some reason.
As a Shinigami she had fought foe after foe using her immense physical strength to bring down even the most dangerous of foes. Going so far as to claim victory over the Vice Captain of division two at the time Harle. Learning the name of her zanpakuto and from that point onward training with all of them as much as she could. Pushing herself towards death door over and over again until she was strong enough that combat was something her body couldn't live without experiencing on a normal basis.
Now she was here though in need of further training and more power. Hiroshi had defeated Okami and as far as she could tell Okami was still more powerful then her. Which meant that as she was right now she simply wasn't good enough to do what needed to be done. She felt like she was a helpless little girl that couldn't do anything. She was what her father wanted her to be and not what she had tried so hard to become. She wasn't going to accept this and wasn't going to be that little girl ever again. She was going to truly learn to be a beast.
"Yes I'm ready Haunzu now what do I need to do?" she spoke down to her zanpakuto. The eyes of her zanpakuto seemed to be filled with what she could only describe as hope. She had asked Haunzu this one specifically the previous night if there was anything else that she could learn from him that could possibly make her more powerful. He had told her yes, but that it was something he wasn't entirely sure she would be able to learn. The two of them continued to talk about it and Kimiko learned that there might be a way for her to develop a new type of Hakuda.
She had read all of the scrolls and practiced so many of the Hakuda techniques and then decided on which would be the best for her in her own opinion. There were some that claimed to be inspired or designed after specific animals. Many of them . . . well in fact all of them Kimiko hadn't bothered to learn after reading about what the techniques themselves were designed to do. She had other various techniques that she felt could do the same things yet better. However, Haunzu had told her that she would become more powerful if she truly became a wolf.
After that she had sent Haunzu back to her zanpakuto spirit world and though over everything that they had talked about. Haunzu had given her some idea of what she might be able to do knowing her reiatsu and how well she could control it as well as what a Shinigami was actually limited to doing with their body. Kimiko had pondered over it all whether or not to train to create something knew or to train herself to simply refine her already present skills and techniques. For once the Captain of division seven felt insecure about her strength and sought out that which might make her more powerful.
"Alright than my Queen. The first thing you're going to need in order to be a wolf is what we have to defend ourselves. What we use to catch our prey. What we NEED to survive. You're going to need claws and fangs my Queen in order to become one of us." Kimiko thought over everything for a moment. She recalled that there were techniques that some Shinigami had created in the past that altered their body yet doing so wasn't always easy. She was going to more than likely struggle in order to succeed at even this and it seemed this was only the beginning.
Kimiko knew that he was being serious. That if she wanted to truly create this new level of Hakuda, power that could be the deciding factor on whether or not she could defeat Hiroshi and redeem Okami and the rest of her family well Kimiko was going to throw everything she had at succeeding at it. So in that moment Kimiko focused on the areas that she would need to flow her reiatsu into in order to obtain the features that she so desperately needed in order to become a wolf.
It didn't seem to be working though as she envisioned claws and fangs which belonged to a wolf in her mind and kept her focus on her fingers and teeth. She was flowing her reiatsu into them and trying whatever it was she was doing the best she could. The only thing slightly similar to this that she knew how to do was the technique passed down through the Shihoin family that allowed them to transform into a small animal. So why wasn't it working she didn't really get what she wasn't doing correctly.
Her nails didn't seem to be effected by what she was doing at all. Perhaps her reiatsu wasn't potent enough to actually cause this type of change to her physical body. It was a possibility that Kimiko considered and yet she didn't want to believe such a thing. This was something that she had to believe she was capable of doing something that she could cause to happen. She already wasn't strong enough to help Okami nor could she cast kido like so many of the other Shinigami. All she had was her body and if she wanted to change it to fit what she needed then God be damned she was going to find a way how to make it happen. (Paragraph 21)
30 Minutes Later
Kimiko stood there still as Haunzu overlooked everything that she was doing. He didn't have any input that could really be much help to her right now. He felt that if he actually spoke to her he would only distract her and take away a chance she might have to be successful. Kimiko was struggling now to stay positive as it seemed that no matter how much reiatsu she flowed into her nails it wasn't going to change anything. She was sweating and starting to breathe heavy after channeling her reiatsu for so long without a break.
For a moment though her focus crumbled and her channeled reiatsu went crazy. It stayed in the same location however and ravaged across her fingers. She had an abundance of reiatsu to start with constantly flowing to her hand so now that it was out of control her fingers suddenly transferred intense pain to her brain. Kimiko winced at it and then stopped flowing her reiatsu all together. Pulling her hands up and looking at them for a moment. It seemed that this was more dangerous than she had originally thought.
Her fingers were all bleeding now. All of them seeping blood from under her nails that was actually rather painful and not something one would expect. There was enough blood that it was dripping out from under her nails and onto the grass at her feet after it ran down the rest of her hand. She starred at her hand angry at what had happened and herself for this failure. What was she doing wrong that this was impossible. How was she going to make it work and what if she couldn't. If she couldn't figure it out then she was just wasting time.
"You've taken the first step it seems my Queen." Haunzu suddenly spoke as he got up from position he had been in only a moment ago. He had been laying on the green like a normal canine for the last twenty minutes watching Kimiko. He had seen what had happened and now decided that his input was valid for whatever reason. Kimiko looked at him though and seemed puzzled she didn't understand what he meant by that when it was obvious that she was failing and something bad had just happened not something good.
"What are you talking about Haunzu." She asked needing to know if perhaps he knew something that he had been keeping to himself or if she had missed something. "Look closer at your nails." He said and Kimiko was taken aback for a moment. She had just looked at her nails and there hadn't seemed to be anything different aside from the blood they were perfectly normal. Now though she looked at her hands and saw that . . yeah they looked pretty much the same. So what was he going on about.
Kimiko knew that Haunzu had better senses than her though even if he was only in shikai right now. Which meant that there was something there that perhaps she wasn't noticing. So she kept looking at her nails in various angles making sure to check them in every way that she could. She trusted Haunzu more so than anyone else so she had to believe that there was something she was missing. That was when she realized what he meant. It took her so long to notice due to not constantly looking at them, but her nails were slightly longer than they had been.
This meant only one thing though. Kimiko knew that she could now actually have a chance at reaching this first true requirement to be known as a wolf. She had the chance to create this technique and make something new once again. Something that could be the deciding factor on whether or not Hiroshi would fall to her when they finally would clash. She was more determined now then ever and fueled herself on the hate that she now felt towards her weak will. She didn't believe that she was so ready to give up and wouldn't allow herself to feel that way again.
Her fingers hurt and she knew that such pain wasn't going to go away any time soon. However, she also at this point didn't really give a damn about how much pain she had to endure in order to succeeding at making this technique. Whether or not she had to stay out here for a week and continue this made no difference she was going to make it work and continue to keep gaining power until there was no one left that could hurt her family. Until she was the most powerful and no one would dare threaten someone that she cared about. That was her goal and she was going to reach it.
Now though she had to think over what had happened that caused her reiatsu to make her nails grow. Flowing her reiatsu directly into them hadn't done anything she had tried that for over half an hour and nothing eventful had happened. What she needed to figure out was where had her reiatsu gone during her moment of foolishness that had caused her nails to grow. Well it hadn't taken long due to the nature of the body. Kimiko knew that it had to be somewhere on her hand and the only place that made sense was right before the nail.
She had to flow and channel her reiatsu into the section of her fingers that grew her nails. That's what she had been missing and she knew that now. So it was time to try again and make this work. She stood there now looking at her fingers in front of her as she flowed her reiatsu into them. They started to lengthen after she tested around specifically where to flow her reiatsu. It seemed that she was correct and now she could length her nails to the appropriate length of a wolf. She smiled and looked to Haunzu only to see that his expression was the same.
It wasn't easy to tell due to him having the body of a wolf yet Kimiko lived her life with all of them and knew them better than anyone. Picking up on what they looked like was second nature to her by now. It was no different then understanding how an individual that looked the same as you felt based on their appearance and expressions. He was shaking his head from side to side signally no more like telling Kimiko that while she had learned to lengthen her nails this wasn't correct. There was something else she was missing.
"What is it? What did I miss Haunzu?" She asked somewhat irritated and impatient. Haunzu got up onto all four of his legs though and made his way over to Kimiko. They were only a few feet apart and Haunzu looked at her nails now which were covered in blood. "Slash that tree my Queen." He said nodding his head towards a tree that was to the right of him and the left of Kimiko. She decided to go along with it and walked over to the tree. She wasn't completely sure what this was going to prove, but she had to trust him.
So she brought her right hand across with her now lengthened finger nails and slashed at the bark of the tree. However, she was met with incredibly sharp pain as her nails all were torn off of her fingers and blood flowed from the raw flesh. She winced and broke out in anger striking the tree with her hand balled into a fist. The tree exploded in a furry of splinters from her strength. Afterwards she turned towards Haunzu trying to calm herself. "You learned how to make your nails long, but not strong my Queen. Keep trying you'll get it soon." He said as he laid back down on the ground.
Kimiko kept at her training for the remainder of the day however it didn't seem that she was meant to progress further then she already had in a single day. It was getting close to dusk and Kimiko knew that she more than likely wouldn't be able to make it back to the Seireitei prior to complete darkness cloaking the wilderness of Soul Society. That was when she made up her decision. She wouldn't be returning to the Seireitei not tonight nor perhaps tomorrow. She wouldn't be returning back there until she got this right and to do that she would have to put everything she had into learning it. (35 Paragraphs)
1 Week Later
Surrounded covered in basically nothing, but thick heavy dark blood was the Captain of Division Seven. Kimiko Shihoin breathing heavily as he body continued to bleed and her wolves lied on the ground exhausted and broken. Hundreds of limbs were scattered throughout the forest along with destroyed trees and craters in the ground. Everything around her was covered in blood and she was barely able to stand anymore. She was to wounded to use Bankai now and Haunzu was incapacitated for the first time.
"Hahaha! See boys I told you that she was nothing more than a little pup nothing to fear. We've got her now!" shouted the massive beast tiger. Thirty yards away stood what was left of the massive pack that had found Kimiko and had been trying to kill her. This battle had gone on for too long and Kimiko felt like she might actually die here now. It'd been over seven hours since they found her and she'd been able to kill hundreds of them yet she couldn't kill them all. The ones remaining were faster and stronger than her. There was no way for her to kill them now.
She had just been out here again training so that she could create the technique to make her fight like a wolf. To make her more powerful. A technique that would increase the lethality of her fighting style. When she had been swarmed by them all. It hadn't taken long for her to be informed about what all this was about. They were after the Seireitei and had just happened to come across one of the Captains and decided it'd be best to eliminate her out here. "This time tomorrow all that will be left of your white city is rubble. Nothing more than a place for graves." The giant tiger spat towards her while grinning devilishly.
Rage boiled throughout Kimiko's veins and into her soul. She couldn't allow this. She couldn't stand here and allow them to kill her and then move on to the Seireitei. Focusing her reiatsu into her hands and then down into her fingers Kimiko concentrated the best that she could. It took a few moments, but her finger nails lengthened and became strong. Her teeth started to grow in size and she could feel something different about how it was this time. It was at that point that the beasts rushed her and all she could do was swing her arms forwards.
Just like that a shockwave unlike anything she had ever been able to create before was sent out. She watched the air distort as it moved forwards like a blade in the air. There wasn't one though. There was a crescent distortion of the air like a blade for each finger that she had used for her slash. She watched as the ten bladed shockwaves cut clean through the beasts slicing their bodies apart and leaving the ground soaked in even more blood. Starring at her own hands at what she had just done came a voice. "I guess you really were a beast after all."
Standing there in one of the forest out in the wilderness of Soul Society was the Captain of Division seven. Kimiko Shihoin one of the youngest Captain in the Thirteen Court Guard Squads.
