He dodged. Shin repelled the surprise assault from the sudden motion that Schala managed to pull despite her pain. The screams from both blades grinding against one another pierced the hot air around them, nearly ridding the young Princess of all the hearing from her small ears. Those cries of metal filled the depths of her ears whilst the eyes captured the glimpse of sparks between them. Surely she did think to herself that her Rapier would have met with him, or perhaps wishful thinking on her part. Regardless, her attempt at landing a blow only resulted in taking a fatal blow to her instead. Indeed Shin was much stronger and faster than herself, and with her being in such a condition in the desert heat she would only fall in a matter of time.
"Princess, are you alright? You shouldn't be taking such risks." the voice within rang through her mind with such an alarmed tone. His voice carried with it the concern that a allie would have, so she knew he was there for additional support. More so now than before with an arm left dangling lifelessly on her side. Just the very gesture of breathing caused the young woman to cringe as it swung back and forth. She was in a bit of a bind, but not a hopeless bind. Schala's spirit was quite strong after all to be able to hear her allie at this point in time. However, he wasn't the only one.
"My lady, fall back for now and regroup. You need to regain your composure before...
"..composure before what? She already gave the enemy the upper hand. Do you understand when I told you that you are naive girl. Look closely..... This is the result."
Another was present. This presence emerged quickly from no where whilst her allie began to calm her senses. Unlike her friend, composed and somewhat of a nurturing presence, this other came as an aggressor. Much more, this one decided to push her friend away and took his place within the mind. While not in control it had influence. Word play more like it as Schala paced around the Shinigami, her Rapier leveled though restlessly shaking in her grip. The Princess continued to fight on despite being at a disadvantage.
Her own thoughts raced with a means to make up for her little stunt. She worked out different scenarios through her head, the tactics needed to operate around the man's defenses posed further risks to herself, some that she deemed too dangerous in her current condition. Nothing came to mind as to bring the odds into her favor. She didn't see a possible chance unless "..unless you do what must be done Schala." Huh? It came back once more, stronger, much more aggressive than before. "You have the means to achieve victory Schala, if only you are willing to do what is necessary. Please, do you not remember what he did to you, to your family?"
What was there to remember? Schala had difficulties reminiscing of the past, only sparks and fragmented memories were what gave her some clue of her previous life. The training she had remain within the corners of her mind and those faces, those she aided, gave her strength to fight on. But there was more.. "There is always more Schala, you just forgotten. Think.. THINK.. Who was the one that brought you here, who was the one that led those you cared about into the pits of agony? Her eyes became unbalanced in her gaze. They faltered, trying to resurrect what lay dormant within herself. What was there?
"That is it... HE was responsible." A smile. A smile surrounded by a shroud of shadows. And a sword. A sword directed towards her, and from behind resides people who she felt responsible for. No, more than that. Those faces buried under expressions of fear were important to her, more than anything in the world. They were...
Her resentment could no longer be quelled. Blood began to boil, surging through the rough nets of her system. Each one pulsating beneath the skin causing her to pant heavily as she attempts to draw them back into her control. Those eyes withdrew from the ground and back to Shin, meeting his cocky grin. No longer could she tell if it was either the sun that caused her to burn or her own anger. Never before she felt the need to exact what she knew to be vengeance, never before did she ache for a sense of justice to be delivered. All she could think about now was that smile in the shadows, and Shin's remarkably resembled it.
That glistening edge of her blade slid down her dislocated shoulder, inch by inch. Its cold reflecting steel bathing in the warmth of the sun. It reflected much of the light with each step drawing closer to him. Their stances matched that of an official Fencing duel, with Shin posed on one end and Schala on the other. Her eyes trained on him, never flinching from what was to come. Those strands of brown hair partially covering those piercing eyes that dawned onto the man before her. She made sure his eyes met with hers before edging her blade into attack position slowly. But not before the sun's brightness beamed from the reflective metal and into the man's eyes. That was when the Shinigami made her move.
Despite being partially impaired her motions were spot on. A single thrust upwards toward the left cheek bone as she shifted in position to his left. Working in tangent with her movements that single side step would have brought the woman further into their dueling space, she intended to close the gap once more. But a single thrust wouldn't do it alone, which was why a secondary step was taken, bringing her further into to Shin's territory.
