Thread Title: Clash Within Division Two Participants: Kimiko vs Katrina World: Soul Society Death Setting: Non Death Enabled Rating: R Location: Second division training yard. A simple training yard that has stone ground with very little else to describe other than the four walls that reach about ten feet in heights yet are more than two hundred feet away from one another making this a large training area. Special Conditions: Circumstances: Kimiko has been summoned by a higher member of the second division in order to prove herself capable of belonging within one of the most important squads of Soul Society.

Kimiko sat in the training yard in a very traditional stance meditating on what she had been taught by Okami. The young princess knew that she still had a long way to climb before she could obtain her potential and claim the title she so desperately sought to gain. Yet it seemed that the new division two Shinigami had been called to do battle against the fifth seat of the division. Kimiko was actually in the dark about why she had been called to do such a thing now she didn't understand if it was a type of training or punishment.
The young princess had spent the previous night thinking over it all at the Shihoin estate getting nearly no sleep. That was the reason that now she sat with her legs bent under her and her arms planned upon them. Her eyes closed the princess simply meditated until the arrival of this Katrina individual that she had been assigned to prove herself against in one form or another. If nothing else Kimiko had thought she would at least see the different between this fifth seat and her cousin Okami.
The standard Shinigami clothing was growing boring for the princess. Although Kimiko was not really the type of female that loved overly complicated yet this uniform was already becoming nothing more than a bore to her. While it did have the same appeal as traditional clothing Kimiko wished that there were not so many layers of clothing and that she could just wear something less complicated that was the simple fact. Nothing else occurred the mind of the Shihoin princess as she awaited the arrival of the fifth seat.
The slight Shinigami arrived in a burst of Shunpo. It would be an utterly silent flash step; so silent, in fact, that she would not even disturb a bird grazing peacefully nearby. She was behind the young Shihoin - by design, of course - partly as a way to test the nobles awareness, and partly because ... well, Katrina didn't like to admit it, but she enjoyed startling people. The look of surprise on their face more than made up for the disdainful glances cast her way by her height, or the lecherous or judgmental ones cast by her clothing of choice.
She stopped where she was, her bare feet still making no noise on the floor, warmed by the rays of the Sun. Mentally, she ran through a list. 'Iguru, Uchigatana, Kunai on belt, wire ...' A frown creased her pixie-like features. That was it of importance. Not that it matters; just from her dress, Katrina possessed an advantage. The loose, many layered clothing, while most decidedly providing several advantages, they were, unfortunately, all of the warmth kind. It is for this reason that Katrina dresses as little as she does. The tight, form-fitting leotard provided a comfortable piece of clothing that could never be used as a weapon against yourself, while the golden haori, while far less practical, at least had wide sleeves and thus was irrelevant.
She felt she had delayed enough at this point, satisfied as she was about the state of her weaponry. "You need to learn to be aware, Shihoin." As was proper, she referred to her by last name; they were equals after all, in nobility if not rank. But she wasn't a friend of hers, either, thus calling her by her first name was out of the question. While Katrina doesn't normally worry about being rude - in fact, at times she relies on it - that was the case in this particular instance. Kimiko Shihoin could prove a valuable ally, if treated right. It was the reason the challenge was issued.
"Do you know the principals upon which Squad 2 runs, Shihoin? About why it is so effective?" Though Kimiko dwarfed the young assassin - by almost a foot and a half - Katrina radiated a sense of power, and purpose. Her voice, though high and almost childlike, cut like a whip with its icy tone and authority. Eyes, matching the voice, narrowed in concentration. Sometimes, she knew, younger Shinigami will attempt to forgo talking in favor of trying a surprise attack. Katrina desperately hoped that Kimiko was not one.

"Clear ones mind. Everything is nothing. Calm of mind. Let everything be seen. Nothing is hidden. Everything is open to oneself." all of these words flowed through the mind of the young Shihoin as she struggled to remain calm and in a meditative state. In all truth Kimiko had slipped out of such a state a few moments after entering it due to her personality ripping her from the cloud of calmness. Kimiko Shihoin was known throughout her family for having a personality that followed the path of action and held little patience.
Kimiko had been trained by a good deal of different Shinigami and so many of the days that she trained had been in the art of meditation yet no matter what it seemed that her own personality wouldn’t ever be subdued by that method. Kimiko sometimes questioned why she was unable to achieve meditation when she had already figured out how to basically seal her personality off while on assassination missions in order to get the mission done and deal with her own feelings on the matter afterwards.
It was then that the air behind Kimiko seemed to whirl slightly giving Kimiko the information she would need to assume that whoever had challenged her had arrived right behind her by either utilizing Shunpo or just was fast enough to actually achieve the feat. As she felt the air whirl around her Kimiko opened her sea blue eyes while her ears twitched slightly sending out a small signal that the Shihoin had in fact picked up on the arrival of the fifth seat.
"You need to learn to be aware, Shihoin."
The voice sounded like that of a small girl someone far younger than even Kimiko herself which was quite shocking to even think let alone believe to be the truth. Kimiko placed her hands on the stone ground on each side of her knees and began to turn herself around to face the arrival of the fifth seat of squad two. In that moment though Kimiko saw that this fifth seat was in fact very small in stature even to the point that she was more than a foot of height shorter than Kimiko herself.
“What makes you believe that you surprised me mad’ am. If you had planned to be late just so you could attempt to surprise me then you could have at least tried harder. I mean damn I’ve been here for a few minutes just doing nothing. Do you have any idea how damn boring its been.” Kimiko was waving her right hand from side to side as she spoke of her boredom along with her head swaying at the same speed and position.
"Do you know the principals upon which Squad 2 runs, Shihoin? About why it is so effective?"
Kimiko placed her right hand under her chin as she thought over the question that the fifth seat had just asked her. “Well I just if I’d put it into my own words it’d be because our squad is devoted to skills that revolve around stealth. Everyone in this squad normally has at least some talent in that area. Yet we also seemed to be the ones that deliver messages so we have to be fast. Yet again we’re the assassins of Soul Society so none of us can be weak. Honestly I’d have to say that the reason we’re effective is because members are well rounded.” Kimiko wasn’t trying to answer correctly honestly she was just speaking of what was on her mind about that question.
Katrina's frown quickly morphed into a smirk at her initial comment. 'Tch. How arrogant.' It was a miracle the girl could sense her, with her barely average senses and no skills in anything to help her detect those that are hidden. But it matters not. "The stealth was a test. One that you passed with flying colors. Impressive, Shihoin. Very impressive." Her words were honest, in a biting sort of way. But getting a compliment out of her was difficult, very difficult. She doesn't hand out compliments readily.
"Your answer its technically correct." Which wasn't a lie. Nearly every Shinigami she knows in Squad 2 had no specialization, other than Stealth. There was no overarching combat skill that tied them all together. Hell, Katrina herself was a testament to that, having trained in every area of Shinigami expertise. But there is more to it than that. "We are feared, certainly. And yes, we are fast, though that is more coincidental than a necessary prerequisite." Her eyes rose to meet Kimiko' s. In them were countless stars, reflected by the rays of the Sun. "But it is more than that." She started walking then, her footsteps nearly silent in the quiet grove.
Her hand grasped a Kunai knife, contained in one of the holsters on her hip. She twirled it easily in her grasp, spinning the blackened metal as if it were a toy. "Our versatility. Our tenacity. Our ruthlessness. This is what makes a good assassin. Not bursting through obstacles, but having the right tool for the job. Not doing what is required of us, but doing what it's needed of us." Her eyes flashed suddenly, the only indication of what would come next. With a flick of her wrist, the knife was sent flying, arching towards the heart. In the same motion, however, a Byakurai was cast, the lightning bolt, mentally summoned, scything through the air towards her head.
"And even, on occasion, weeding out those who are not strong." The slither of metal on metal rang briefly, drawing eyes towards her Zanpakutou. Pure black, a glossy sheen the only direction, it moved through the air with an odd silence. The guard was that of a Phoenix in mid-fight. "This is my Zanpakutou, Shihoin. Can you break it? Can you shatter it into infinitesimal pieces? That is your goal. Catch me or break my sword. Your choice."

Well it seemed that the fifth seat of division two wasn’t exactly joyous that Kimiko had past what she said to be a test of stealth. Kimiko thought over what had happened and thought it very odd to test a member of the second division on whether or not they could find out someone was behind them when every single member of the division itself was suppose to be a decent assassin or at least effective in stealth. Be that as it may though the voice of this tiny individual seemed to mimic the bite of a snake with what many would assume to be a compliment yet Kimiko wasn’t so sure.
As the fifth seat openly called Kimiko by her family name Kimiko sneered without realizing it. Kimiko never liked being known just as a Shihoin especially considering the fact she was the princess of the family a female and her past. It was one thing that Kimiko hated about being apart of her family. She wasn’t like every other royal Shinigami that prized them on nobility, but one that believed true skill determined strength not the name of someone.
"Your answer its technically correct. We are feared, certainly. And yes, we are fast, though that is more coincidental than a necessary prerequisite. But it is more than that."
The fifth seat rose to meet Kimiko’s own gaze and in her eyes Kimiko could count what appeared to be stars such a beauty. In their reflection however Kimiko wasn’t oblivious to her own eyes. The very thing about her that made the least amount of sense the princess thought. Her eyes were the very thing that Kimiko never could understand. Throughout her life she had been told that they were unlike any other in existence yet why was unknown. In truth Kimiko couldn’t even understand what made them so unique other than the two black crescents that seemed to stem from her pupils. That however was the reason itself the princess just couldn’t understand it.
The fifth seat began to walk in a very silent manner that Kimiko made sure to realize. It seemed that the fifth seat was attempting to display her superiority in the art and practice of stealth yet Kimiko had trained as well in the arts. The silent steps that this fifth seat made were nothing special in the eyes of the princess simply because she could do the same thing. It was just that why utilize silent steps when you walking in front of the person while talking to them.
It was then that the fifth seats hand moved downward and touched the surface of what Kimiko could see was a kunai knife that must have been holstered on her hip. “Fuck she’s like Aevus god damn it I hate fighting distance” Kimiko let out a slight sigh as the fifth seat began to twirl the kunai in her grasp. It was at that point that Kimiko stood up from the stone ground to her feet. It seemed that this fifth seat was echinus to get on with what the princess now could see was a test of skill through combat. A grin spread across the face of the princess as she starred at the fifth seat as she walked.
"Our versatility. Our tenacity. Our ruthlessness. This is what makes a good assassin. Not bursting through obstacles, but having the right tool for the job. Not doing what is required of us, but doing what it's needed of us."
In the next instance Kimiko saw the sunlight shine off the surface of the kunai and the arms of the fifth seat begin to move. Leaping backwards to increase the distance between them Kimiko’s arms soar to chest height in what many would see as a boxing like stance yet her hands were open not balled into fists. The princess saw the kunai had been throw right for her chest and grinned however at the next instant she heard what she could only thing was lightning.
At that moment a thin lightning bolt seemed to launch from the fifth seat aimed right for Kimiko’s face. Grinning in excitement that many would question Kimiko’s left arm moved downward blocking off her heart from the kunai by moving into the path of the throw. Her right arm went up towards her face yet was across her head like she would use her forearm as a wall to the lightning. In that next instant though the fifth seat would see why Kimiko was not like any other low class Shinigami or any other Shihoin.
The princess flexed her left arm entirely causing the kunai to clash with the muscle beneath her skin which only resulted in the kunai bouncing off the skin of the princess. It seemed simultaneous though that Kimiko’s right hand moved forward in a backhand manner to strike the lightning only about a foot from her face. In that moment the lightning would just simply be broken for in fact Kimiko’s brute strength was too much for the kido to withstand. Now the fifth seat would see that Kimiko wasn’t like any other new Shinigami in division two.
“Nice trick star-gazer. HERE COMES MINE!” In that moment Kimiko brought her right foot backwards the kicked at a precise angle to the stone ground causing it to break. Kimiko’s foot was now below a small amount of stone rubble that she kicked forward right towards the fifth seat. As the stone rubble would soar right for the fifth seat Kimiko would bend her legs then jump straight into the air. The princess would actually leap to what many would believe impossible simply because she was now thirty feet in the air coming down right towards the fifth seat. Her right leg high above her head Kimiko grinned downward at the fifth seat as she attempted an axe kick upon the shinigami who challenged her might.
"... tch. How arrogant." Katrina was highly disappointed. She had expected this Shihoin to be more professional, more ... refined. They were similar, after all, both of them assassins, both of them stressed by the expectations of their family. Both of them attractive woman in a man's world, dealing with misogynistic bull. Katrina was looking for some friendly competition, perhaps some rivalry. Now it would look like Katrina would have to teach this young upstart a lesson.
It was child's play, honestly, to avoid the attack. Granted, Katrina had no way of knowing what the Shihoin was planning. But Katrina was a naturally suspicious creature. The fact that she didn't know what Kimiko was planning was more than enough of a reason to get out of dodge. With no sense of her abilities or particular skill set, it would be foolhardy to not dodge. So dodge she did. Before Kimiko' s foot even touched the ground, a flash step took Katrina completely out of range.
Though not out of fighting distance. That would be ridiculous. Again silently, utilizing her skill in silent movement, she appeared behind the young Shinigami. A single manicured hand rose to her spine, not quite touching it. Then, another Byakurai, this one at point blank range. Katrina saw her little trick with the rocks, and while that obviously meant she has great physical strength. But Strength of the body doesn't help against Kido, not if you cannot swat it away. Magic will rip apart those who are too weak to resist it in an instant.
And this silent Byakurai would do just that. Aimed where it is, paralysis would be guaranteed. Plus, the beam of lightning would rip through several important organs. If Kimiko didn't find someway to dodge, this would be a most definite fatal injury, if she wasn't treated quickly. "You disappoint me." These three words contained Katrina's best sneer, her most irritating condescending tone. She had given up in trying to recruit this Shinigami to her cause; instead, it was time for this child to be taught a lesson.
But that lesson did not consist of Katrina being flattened like a bug. As soon as the spell was cast, Katrina leapt backwards, her tiny body and skill in Hoho allowing for quick movement away. Her sword flicked out then, the light of battle shining in her eyes. "And rude. Very rude. How ... plebian." She smirked then, and in that smirk was a challenge to make her easy her words.

OOC: You were right, to an extent. At 600 strength, you take low damage. But you do need to hit it to be effective. Yeah. I'm sorry, Asmo.

The dark metal that made up the actual body of the kunai seemed cold against Kimiko’s skin as it was knocked off due to her immense physical prowess. In truth Kimiko hadn’t tested her strength to the degree most would have thought approperate prior to utilizing her muscles in this manner. Kimiko hadn’t known that the kunai would have bounced off her skin yet was preparing her body to take the worst of the kunai while minimizing the damage by flexing the muscles in her forearm. The Shihoin’s own eyes revealed her surprise as the defense proved too much for the simply kunai to penetrate.
Unlike the kunai Kimiko had in the past tested her strength in a manner that gave her knowledge that she could break weak numbered kido. From what Kimiko had been able to see this kido was a very thin lightning based spell. One that Kimiko had been tested on multiple times in the past by so many of the instructors that had trained her in the arts of a Shinigami. Sadly though Kimiko had absolutely no talent in the arts of kido and had very little ambition to push her talents further in that direction.
What she hadn’t been expecting especially after less than a moment prior of her strength proving so effective against attacks that the lightning of the kido would cause an intense heat on her knuckles. The actual backhand had been planned on a moments notice and Kimiko didn’t even realize her arm was still on the course to strike the kido due to her surprise at the kunai bouncing off her forearm. Kimiko absentmindedly bit down on her lip in order to deal with the burning sensation that was flowing through her mind due to the actual scorching of her right hand.
Smoke was already coming off of Kimiko’s backhand and her skin was scorched in a minor way yet the pain was still incredible. The young princess of the Shihoin family wasn’t going to allow some tiny kido to halt her efforts against the fifth seat of division two. This was one of the best situations she had to prove and test herself as a shinigami that would never fail to leave foes in dismay and protect those around her. This was a test that Kimiko knew now she couldn’t afford to waste or fail.
As Kimiko had backhanded the kido causing the lightning to burst apart from her strength she saw that the fifth seat was standing in the same position. In that next moment though the fifth seat seemed to simply vanish from Kimiko’s sight the princess instantly realized that the fifth seat had exacuted a shunpo like she had most likely done previously in order to arrival for the clalenge she had issued against Kimiko. Reacting based on how the fifth seat had actually arrived to the confrontation Kimiko suspected that a flanking attack was more than likely possible from the competition.
Her right leg was moving forward but Kimiko knew what to do. By shifting her left foot to the right Kimiko was able to turn her entire body around to the right with her right leg now rising upwards. The fifth seat would already have arrived behind Kimiko and would be extending her finger outward to the Shihoin’s back. As the kido spell would begin to channel Kimiko’s right leg would raise to the height needed to clash with the fifth seat’s upper body. In the moment that the lightning kido was utilized once again it Kimiko’s body had shifted and was now halfway turned to face the fifth seat. This caused the lightning to miss the original target location and only strike through the side of Kimiko’s right.
The princess had felt the incredible pain yet wasn’t going to yield to such a spell. She knew that if she was successful in landing this single kick against the fifth seat the female would most likely be sent flying backwards with far greater wounds then what she had just been inflicted. As her leg moved it would be most plausible that her calf would actually be the location to make contact with the upper right arm of the fifth seat. If she attempted to leap backwards Kimiko’s longer reach would certainly still make contact with the fifth seat leading to the same outcome. For the moment all Kimiko’s eye’s saw were the outline of the fifth seat while her body began to sweat and twitch in pain.
