Learning About Medicine (Joint Training/Hotaru & Rose/NDE)

[Hotaru Kuchiki-Masurao]

Hotaru was making another trip to Squad Four. On thinking about it, she was kind of marveled at how many regular trips that she made to this squad. It was getting to the point where some of the squad members started to know her by name and would take her to what they now called her 'regular room.' This time was no exception. Right when she walked in, one of the members called her over by name and walked her to the room she could now get to in her sleep. Once there, she didn't have to wait too long for someone to come in and heal her injuries. They really didn't talk to her much as they did before. 

They realized in the past that she pretty much just came in to get healed and then leave. Also, she was the Third Seat of the Eleventh Division. The fighting squad. She was sure that alone intimidated some of the members in this squad. She knew that healers had their place on a battlefield, but most of the people that took up the medical profession, from her opinion, were more against fighting or even scared of fighting. When they would help her in battle, they were timid, but still got the job done. She could see people like that in this squad, but it seemed that the sturdier ones she saw the most.

But, she was always curious as to how their captain was. She has heard some rumors about Rose, the Fourth Division Captain. From what she had heard, she seemed like a strong woman, but had some weird habits. But, it wasn't her place, or really anyone else's, to question what a captain does in their free time. Except, for maybe, other captains. Even though she was a very high ranked officer, she still wouldn't question a captain like that. After they fixed her up and right before the nurse left, she stopped her. Hotaru asked quickly about a rumor she heard about the captain having some kind of field. The nurse said to look in the Wilderness to see for herself.

So, the next day, she was walking through the Wilderness on the outskirts of Soul Society and Rukongai. She had never really adventured out here before, but with the beauty all around her, she would have to come out here more often and see the nature. It was one thing she missed, nature being right outside her door. She enjoyed the nature of the human world more than the nature in the world she now lived in. She would definitely need to change that. Then, after a few minutes, she walked into a weird part of the wilderness. It was still green but all the plants looked different.

It also looked like these plants were in a plot of land more than just growing in the wilderness. She stepped onto the plot and just looked at these new plants. She had never seen any plants like these before. She looked and even the leaves were completely different from all the other leaves that she's ever known. It almost looked like a hand, the pattern of this leaf did. It looked almost like two or three English letter W's on this leaf. But, she didn't really want to actively go through these plants, in case they belonged to someone. So, she sat at the edge of the field of plants, thinking if she had ever seen a leaf like these before.

[/font] Called out a voice of dainty female nurse, an unseated shinigami of her division who rose up from her seat. Rose, now stopped, had leaned against the reception desk, using her elbow to prop herself up. "Yes... Mindy?" She said, giving the woman her attention and taking a peek at her name tag as she honestly didn't know the girls name up till then. "There's a surgery scheduled for you t-tomorrow at noon." She timid girl spoke, reminding the captain.

"Ah! Thanks Minty, I'll be out past Rukongai so if anyone needs extra work tell them they can come help me cut down the harvest." Rose spoke, having a bad habit for not remembering names. As she had finished her sentence Rose used her right arm to dramatically swipe to the side, unintentionally knocking over a plastic container which held a stack of forms, sending them flying over the edge. There was a pause, drowned in awkwardness. Stepping back Rose cleared her throat. "Umm... I meant to do that." She said, now taking her hand and knocking over two small ceramic statues shaped like cats, making it seem like it was her plan all along. "IM OFF!" and like that the woman shunpoed the hell out of there, leaving the woman standing there awkwardly, the desk a mess now.

The rustles of the leaves in the gentle breeze was all that was heard. Perhaps it was far to peaceful for the woman's tastes. However it was a nice change compared to the chaos the soul society had previously endured. Brushing a bit of dust that settled onto her shorts Rose was now in the wilderness. Exhaling heavily she looked around, crop was fine, all was well. In all honestly Rose was a bit more paranoid then normal. She had received many threats on people who wanted to burn her crop, or simply destroy it. They were simply cowards hiding behind alias's but regardless her guard was up. So the moment the blonde haired, tattooed woman set her crimson eyes on another shinigami who stepped on her plot, a part of her became a bit hostile.
"DONT BURN IT!" The captain called out, her hands flying up in the air (like she just don't care), and a scowl coming across that pretty face she had.

The captain didn't wear the standard shinigami garb, no she believed everyone should wear what they wanted to. However being a captain and all she kept her colors mostly dark and black. The woman wore a dark reddish purple tank top that seemed to be made of a thick looking fabric, with lace trimming the lining and two red stripes going vertical down the center. It was tailored to hug her curves and fashioned with a deep V neckline down to the bottom of her bust while A strap held the deep neckline in place near the top of her bust.

In all honesty Rose didn't want to just toss away the entire standard shinigami uniform, so she wore a peice of it. Removing and hemming the sleeves and cutting it off at about her hips she wore the piece as a vest, the ends frayed. She had two sets of belts around her waist. Each with their own compartments which held little odds and ends for long travels. One belt adorned with a metal plate with the flower of the 4th division. Rose was always prepared for random journeys, being the fickle woman she was Rose kept a pouch strapped to each leg and even a few more straps on her arms. A pair of finger-less gloves were worn along with black jean cutoff shorts The outfit was complete with knee high boots with a slight heel, the Haori and a crimson colored scarf. Not the average looking captain at all.

[Hotaru Kuchiki-Masurao]

Hotaru was sitting, watching the plants when she felt someone's presence in the area. She immediately stood up and put her hand to her zanpaktou, just in case this person was going to lash out at her. Then, she felt the presence coming towards her, but from the opposite end of this plot of land. She didn't recognize the signature at all, so she kept her guard up. It was then that she heard a voice yell out at her not to burn it. She then looked over in the direction the yell came from.

She saw a woman flailing her arms about and was scowling at her. She guessed that this field belonged to her. She hoped that she didn't harm any of these strange looking plants while sitting here. While the woman was coming towards her, she got a good look at her. She was five inches shorter than her, but the heels she was wearing made their height a little more equal. The shoes went all the way up to her knees, which Hotaru never understood. Wearing shoes like that can't be comfortable.

Then, she saw that she was wearing what humans would call 'jean shorts' and a very nice colored shirt. She thought the plunge in the neckline was a little too low, but she wasn't the best person to start spouting off fashion tips. She then noticed that she was wearing what looked like part of a shinigami uniform that got transformed into a vest. It was definitely nice needle skills. Then, she noticed one other article of clothing that she hadn't seen immediately. Her jacket.

It was a Haori. It meant that she was a captain. But, since she was coming towards her, she didn't know for which division. So, before she got too close to her, she looked over her to see if she saw any kind of insignia to show which division captain she was. She then saw on one of the belts she was wearing the number four. So, this was the Fourth Division Captain. By the time she had gotten close, she could see the color of her eyes, crimson, her blonde hair and some tattoos on her body.

She immediately bowed low to the captain. Thankfully, she memorized all of the captain's names, just in case something like this would happen. "I swear to you I have done nothing to these plants, Rose-taichou. I was actually just looking at them. I have never seen any plants like this as long as I have existed. They don't match anything that I remember from my time on Earth. I would never burn random plants that I just found in a forest. That would be a little weird. My name is Hotaru Kuchiki, 3rd Seat of Squad 11, do with me as you see fit."

[/font] Rose stopped herself from speaking as she brought a enclosed fist up to her lips, closing her eyes momentarily before shaking her head and saying "Know what don't answer that, never mind!" Clearing her throat the captain shifted the conversation to something that wasn't so... Awkward.

"Well... If you burned these plants everyone around here is gonna be stoned, not a bad thing but a waste." Rose brought herself to speak. She shifted her gaze back to Hotaru, reaching out to rub one of the plant leaves between her thumb and index finger. Her dilated eyes were alluring, and a clear signification that she wasn't sober. "This small plot is full of White Widow plants, a strain of Cannabis." She informed the woman. It was rather surprising that the 3rd seat never saw these plants before, clearly she was missing out. Then again Rose's life had been intertwined with various drugs since she was a part of the living, the idea of living without them was foreign to the woman. Some people dubbed Rose as a drug addict, maybe it was true to a degree but most of those people didn't realize that it was the drugs that kept the captains power in check. Few people, in fact even another Kuchiki member, had seen the effects and strain that was put on Rose in her more sober moments. She was judged and simply misunderstood. 

"So Coochi, what brought you out here?" Rose asked, pulling out a pack of cigarettes from her pouch on her belt and bringing a smoke to rest between her lips. After lighting it, Rose took a deep inhale of the tobacco smoke and exhaled, waiting for Hotaru (now nicknamed Coochi) to speak. Rose knew the 11th division was full of fighters of all kind, and many of those members often tormented her division members; she couldn't put her finger on what the shinigami could want. Rose observed her, no cuts, scrapes or blood to be seen; and it puzzled the captain slightly. Perhaps the captain was on edge due to the threats of destruction upon her crop from before, or maybe just a part of her wasn't use to having people come spectate the plants. 

Rose held her smoke delicately between her fingers, her nails painted red, then she simply tapped the ash clinging to the cigarette. Bringing it up to her lips once more Rose took another puff, exhaling through both her mouth and her nose; looking like a dragon who was breathing smoke. A though had now popped up in Rose's mind. Coochi didn't even know what the plant was, so what were the odds that she had smoked some bud before? She had to guess it was slim to none. A bit of an evil though was brewing into her mind, thoughts on pressuring Coochi to try some of Mary Jane's magic. She could smoke it, if not she could eat it. A part of her now  wanted to see how this would play out, Rose was bad for these little tricks. [/ul]

Hotaru was glad that the captain calmed down after she bowed to her. She was glad that that small act diffused some of the crazy energy this captain seemed to have. She stood there and it seemed that this captain was processing everything she had just said. She hoped that she didn't say anything wrong. Since this was their first meeting, she didn't want to give a horrible first impression. But, from what she was seeing from the captain, it seemed like that wasn't the case at all.

Then, the captain walked up to her till there was only five feet separating them. She then looked between her and her plants. The captain then asked her if she was one of those weird sex freaks that get their kicks from being used and abused. She just looked at her dumbfounded. She had no idea what this woman was talking about. Before she could answer, the captain told her nevermind she didn't want to know. Then, Hotaru started to think about it. Who would like that? The thought itself was just weird.

The captain then told her that if she had burned the plants around here, everyone would get stoned so it wouldn't be a bad thing, just a waste. She then looked towards the plants again, putting a leaf between her thumb and index finger and rubbing the leaf gently. She then told her that this plot of land is full of what she called White Widow plants, which were a strain of Cannabis. She just continued to stare at her. She had never heard of either plants before. She just thought them weird plant names.

She then noticed that the captain's eyes were fairly dilated. She wasn't that good with medicine, but she knew that the conditions weren't right outside for someone's eyes to be so dilated. She then figured the captain must be under some kind of influence that wasn't natural. Then, she looked over to the plants. She then assumed that from burning these, the smoke they give off would cause properties in people that would make them be more at ease and maybe have some hallucinogenic properties.

She only knew of one drug, opium. But, that drug wasn't really around her area until she died. Even then, she didn't really know the full effects of the drug on a person. It sounded like these leaves could do something like opium, but hopefully not as intense as she has learned from being in the human world. It seems there, they use the opium plant to create drugs like 'heroine,' which are very life-threatening. She just hoped that the captain was okay, but she seemed fine to her in person.

It was then that she pulled out a pack of cigarettes and asked her what brought her out here. Even though she didn't call her by her name at all, she let it slide. She didn't really mind this new nickname. "Well, Rose-taichou, one of my squad mates, Takashi came out here and said he saw something interesting. I also heard from the times I've spent in your squad that there was something out in the wilderness. So, I decided to come see for myself. After just wandering around for awhile, I happened upon your plants."

[/font] Rose's voice dragged on as she tried to gather up words while in her high state of mind. "So you came out here based on stuff you heard?" Rose didn't quite understand why, they could have been referring to something else but with a lack of details it seemed like Coochi just went to what ever she saw out here first.

Rose's ears perked and her attention was caught as she recalled the name Takashi. Yes it took her a few moments, she was bad with names after all, but never the less the name came back into her mind. A man with white hair and a bored expression popped into her mind, yup that was him. She should have figured the two knew each other considering they shared the Kuchiki name, man more of those fuckers were sure popping up everywhere. Even Rose had an offer to become one but she was not one to even have a surname, that's why she was Rose and just Rose alone.

"Ah, Takashi's an interesting man, I ended up killing him by accident but.. Well obviously he was brought back." She spoke, a grin forming on her face once again as she took another drag off of her cigarette. She wasn't one to mention something like that as the whole incident was a fuck up on Rose's part. However being under the influence and perhaps wanting to instill some fear into this woman's heart the words just slipped from her lips.

Crimson eyes came to glance over at her field. Matured plants filled the plot, full of large and plump bods. Perhaps it was time to get to work on this crop. "So you came out here and found the plants. Since you're not burning it then.... Hmmmm... I'll put you to work." She said, making her decision. Rose wasn't one to let people touch her plants or come near them for that matter but since the woman was already here and in front of Rose she may as well make her work. The woman was actually lucky Rose didn't try to take a couple fingers from this 'samurai'.
"Tools are in the shed nearby. First step is to cut the crop down." The captain came to order, man it was good to have authority at times like this. Hopefully this woman wouldn't get the stupid idea to use her zanpakuto to cut down her babies, they were plants, not training dummies.

While Hotaru was standing there, waiting on the captain, she watched as that captain started to blow smoke in her direction. She thought it was weird that she did that, but she did get a good whiff of what she was smoking. She smelled something that she tried to figure out what it actually was. It was definitely a harsh scent that was being mixed with something that smelled more fragrant, which left a very interesting mix of smells that she was getting right now.

While waiting for the captain to speak, she also kept looking at these plants. It was obvious to her that the captain cared about them a great deal, just from the way she acted when she got there and how she spoke of them. She still didn't have any idea what they were, but she leaned over to see if they had some kind of scent. They did have a smell that she couldn't place, but they did smell better than whatever the captain was smoking. She held back the coughs, but made a note to drink a lot of water when she left here to clear her senses from the smoke.

The captain then decided to ask her that she came by based off what she heard. "I know it might seem weird, Rose-taichou, but yes. I came based off what I had heard and I already like wandering through the wilderness here, so it was almost like a win-win. I honestly didn't expect to find anything out here. It was an interesting find, that's for sure. The plants look pretty." She stood there looking towards the plants, still wondering what the actual plants were, not just their strain.

The captain then mentioned Takashi and how she killed him by accident. She did a double take. There was no way that she heard that correctly. She ACCIDENTALLY KILLED him?! First off, she's never heard of anyone accidentally killing anybody. Well, she had on the battlefields, but those were all jokes between soldiers so those didn't count. She thought about that. Though, with the people she's now met that are weaker than her, she could kinda picture doing that.

Second, it was Takashi. She has trained with the man, so she knew first hand how strong he is and how well he is at fighting. She knew that she needed to improve on things when it came to fighting, but from how Takashi was, it seemed that at least he thought that he couldn't really be beat. It felt kinda nice to know that he was defeated in battle. It sucked that he died, but he did get brought back. She wished she would've been there to see it firsthand.

She chuckled to herself as she thought about that. While she was chuckling, she heard the captain say that she was now going to put her to work. The tools she needed were in the shed nearby and she needed to cut the crop down. She nodded towards the captain and found the shed she was talking about. She opened the door and found some cutters in there that she could use for the crops in the field. Once she grabbed the cutters, she made sure that the door was shut and secured. 

She walked back and assumed that like with other crops, you just cut them from the bottom. Making sure her zanpaktou was tied securely to her waist, she started with the first plant in the front right corner, cutting it, catching the plant and laying it down next to where it was cut. She did that for that plot, collected all the plants and carefully laid them out to the side, out of her way so she wouldn't step on them by accident. It was tiring work, but she didn't mind to do it for the captain.

She continued to do this for all of the plants in the fields. The work took her longer than she anticipated. She figured it was due to the fact that the captain was watching her every move, so she didn't want to do anything to injure the plants or just stupid in general. Once she grabbed the last bundle out of the field and put it with the rest of the crop, she had a healthy pile of plants. She turned towards the captain. "Your crop has been cut Taichou. Is there a place you would like me to put them?"

[although its turned in I'd like to note that as Hotaru slaved away Rose simply sat there drinking martini's and smoking dope, not giving a fuck because she didn't have to lift a finger.]
