RP Sample:
Hotaru walks up to a practice dummy, ready to practice what she had always called her art. She hadn't been able to practice in so long, she thought she was getting too rusty. She grabbed the sword she was given, she noticed that it seemed a little off balance from what she was used to, but she would make due. It would make her work harder to make it even and work her muscles out even better.
"Alright class, it's time to practice the swordplay basics. Pretend these dummies are wild hollow in the Real World and defeat them!"
She concentrated hard on the task at hand and started to picture what she saw in the books, a white mask formed over its head.
"So, I have to look the hollows in the face and attack their mask to do any damage. A body shot would be easier, but I just need to practice more to get better."
She concentrated then struck. When she hit the dummy, she missed the sweet spot completely. She was going to blame the sword but knew better. Her father always told her if there is a mistake in battle, it is the wielder's shortcoming, not the weapon. She did some practice swings with her sword. It turns out that she was still holding the sword like she did her old sword. She grabbed the sword correctly this time, adjusting for the new weight of it.
She aimed for the sweet spot again and still missed. But this time, it was a better margin than it was before. She kept practicing and on the sixth or seventh swing, she was able to hit it on the sweet spot.
She was excited but knew that her emotions could make her miss, so she calmed and struck again. Now, every time she was able to hit the sweet spot.
Her teacher saw the improvement and was pleased. "Very good Hotaru. You have improved since the beginning of practice. That's it for today's lesson. You may go back inside the academy!"
She wiped off her blade with the towel that was close by and then sheathed it. Next, she wiped her brow of sweat and took a drink of water. She was rather pleased with herself and hoped that the next class she'll do better. Though, looking down at her sword, she could swear that she felt the balance improve just slightly during training. She thought it had to be a trick, since no sword could do that. But, this is Soul Society and she knew that this could be a natural occurrence. She'll just have to keep going and find out for herself.

-Appearance-
Height/Weight: 5'11"/190lbs
Physical Description:
Let's start with her hair. Since her favorite color is purple, it makes a huge appearance to her in death. Her hair is purple, short and spikey. She was thankful for that since she always thought her longer hair had hindered her in battle. Her eyes remained the same color, hazel. Her skin tone was now a tan shade. Among her family and village, she was the darkest (picture a hawaiian's skin tone). Her face, thankfully, has really no blemishes on her face. Though, she does have some small scratch scars that it seems like only she can tell are on her face. For jewelry, she does have two holes in each ear. The first hole has stylized dragon earrings and the second holes have small diamonds in them (they were a carry over from her life. Her father gave them to her and they were made into earrings).
She does wear a locket that she was able to get in Soul Society from someone she befriended in Rukongai. It's a silver color and on the inside, she was able to crudely draw her parents. On her right arm, between her shoulder and elbow, is a purple stylized dragon tattoo. She does have a few scars scattered about her torso (which are unseen due to her outfit) and on her arms (but none on her tattoo) from her years of training with her father. Her shinigami outfit is like most others for a few differences. She has a purple sash that keeps the outfit closed instead of white and instead of the shinigami sandals, she goes barefoot. She prefers to feel the ground when she fights.

-Personality-
Dislikes:
- Untidiness. Since she was small and the house was always clean and tidy, she hates untidiness.
- Unorganization. Her father kept the house ordered and her time in the army was ordered, she is used to being organized. Anything else gets her too flustered.
- Evil. Anything that has proved to be evil to her she will exterminate. With extreme prejudice.
- Disrespecting authority. She will question authority, to a point and only if she thinks that there could either be a better way to do it to if it involves innocent people. If people disrespect authority for no reason, she will not tolerate it and has been known to strike out before thinking.
- Disrespecting family. Since she grew up in such a family-centric household, she will not tolerate any disrespect to anyone's parents.
- Dishonesty. She can’t stand people who lie. If people can’t just tell her the truth all the time, she wants nothing to do with them.
Likes:
- Tidiness. She loves to keep everything in tip top shape all the time.
- Organization. Everything for her has to be organized all the time. She a little bit of a perfectionist in those two aspects.
- Cherry blossoms. They always remind her of home and put a smile on her face.
- The smell after a rain. After all, who doesn't like that smell?
- Family. She will love family over everything else and cherishes it like nothing else.
- Sunlight. She loves to just bask in its warm glow.
Flaws:
- Perfectionist. She doesn't have it to the extreme, but she has it enough to the point that it can effect her. Say if her outfit isn't done correctly, she will sit and fix it for as long as it takes till it's right. The same goes with fighting moves, styles and techniques.
- Emotions. She does hide her emotions, but if any were to come to the surface, say by someone pissing her off to a certain point, she won't think about it and just act on the emotions.
- Goodness. Let me explain. She believes, down deep in her heart, that every soul is good. Unless proved otherwise that attacking them will do good to them (like defeating hollows), she will never, of her own accord, hurt innocent bystanders. Though, if commanded to do so, she will begrudgingly follow orders, unless she knows something about said enemy ahead of time and talks it out with the authority who gave her the command.
Habits:
- Reading. She always tries to better herself by reading, so she tries to read everyday. But, if she doesn't have that much time, at least three times a week for a least an hour.
- Training. She tries to practice at least one hour everyday. She hopes for more time, but she can't control her schedule.
- Sword cleaning. She always wants to keep her zanpaktou immaculate. She caught this trait for her father. Her father always kept his sword battle ready clean, and she does the same.
- Stretches. Every morning, once she wakes up, she does early morning stretches. She works her muscles out then grabs her sword and practice some quick techniques to get her loose for the day.
- Truthfulness. She is truthful to a fault. She doesn’t see the point of lying about something. Everyone deserves to know the truth about everything, whether they want to hear it or not.
Fears:
- Fear of losing those she holds dear. All during her fighting on her, she was always afraid of losing her family. It made her act the way she did, even a little too foolhardy now that she thinks back. She couldn't bear to lose anyone she considered close/like family.
- Emotions. It is a flaw and she always has this nagging doubt in the back of her mind that one day, someone will set her off in battle. She'll act on her emotions instead of her head and she lose the fight and maybe even lose her life.
- Being lost. She was lost on the human world before she found herself in Soul Society. She never wants to be that lost again. When she was lost, she had lost all hope for everything and she never wants to feel that way again.
Goals:
- Betterment of herself. It has always been her life's goal to improve herself continuously. It's why she has her habits, in the hopes of bettering herself enough to be found worthy to meet her father again.
- Defeating evil. As in life, she always wanted to thwart evil where she found it. In this way, she thought that she would better the world to get rid of the world's evil.
Alignment: Lawful Good.
Overall Personality:
She likes to consider herself a good person. She always tries to think of ways to defeat her enemies that would not hurt innocence bystanders. As a child, her father instilled the ways of the samurai into her and because of that, she will always look out for the little guy. She knows that she must obey what authority will tell her, she knows she can't blindly follow. But, she will always try her best to make sure all damage is minimal.
She tries to follow the ancient Bushido code in all things. Because of this code, she has high moral standards. Her thoughts of moral and amoral are pretty cut and dry. Good is good and evil is evil. For her, there is not much gray area. She will make exceptions, depending on what's going on at the time, but for the most part, she will protect the good and defeat evil.
She tries to control her emotions at all times. It was always drilled to her to keep her emotions under control. When she would lose control of her emotions in a fight, like if her father got her angry, she completely lost sight of her technique and would just blindly strike at the enemy, leaving her open for an attack. In this way, she may seem cold and off-putting to others. If people got the chance to know her, they would find she's almost the complete opposite.
She can also be a little too trusting to people in authority. She will question when she thinks it's needed, but she will always give authority a little bit of trust. Also, this might look like she's a brown noser to the others, but not for her. Since she doesn't know these squad members or have fought with them, they have to earn her trust. She doesn't give her trust out easily to a squad, unless they have fought with her on the battlefield or they've actually talked to her and gotten to know her.

-Powers-
Fighting Style:
Since before she became a shinigami she was trained in the samurai way, she continues to fight this way. She does, thankfully, have some experience in the battlefield. It has been very helpful with her transition. She will rely on her technique more than anything else when it comes to fighting. Her technique is all she's been taught and it's all she knows.
When she fights in the real world, she would use her surroundings to try to give her the advantage. She will also always try to keep the high ground in a fight. Her father's principles always ring in her head about surroundings. She always try to keep high ground and keep the enemy below or cut down their advantage quickly so they can't use it against her. She also has sometimes been known in a fight, when it's getting close, to use the scabbard of her sword to use as another weapon for her.
For her zanpakutou power, once she attains it, she will have to become a close to mid range fighter. Leviathan, the zanpakutou, will have attacks that work from both mid range to close range. Once Leviathan's power grows, there will be at least one attack that would be better at a more long range. She will have to adapt to most ranges, with training, to see how far she can risk on the ranges of all the attacks. Using her technique and focus, I think those two will help her to be extremely successful in fighting.
Zanpakutou Spirit Appearance: Leviathan (Rivu~aiasan) is as big as his name implies. When first seen, he seems to take up the entire sky. Using liquid movement to move across the sky, changing colors to match Hotaru's moods. His colors can vary from black, red, yellow, blue, orange, pink and purple. Since Hotaru favors purple, whenever he wants to talk to her about anything or need to interact with her, he changes to a purple color. His eyes, however, are a striking light blue color, so if he looks straight down, you can always tell where he is in the sky.
His body, even though looking massive, isn't as big as you think. He is massive, but only in height. His body type is lean and muscular, scaled with two appendages coming from his nose like a moustace (think of the dragon in Mulan). He has a snout, pointy ears and a head fitting his body structure. So in some ways, he's a cross between an elf and a dragon that walks on two legs. Though, his ears are pierced (the entire top part of the ear). The rest of his massive size is the liquid he gives off. It makes him look at least 20 times bigger than he actually is.
He also acts like a sage. Hotaru knows that he doesn't know everything, but he is old. He has seen enough of the world that Hotaru hasn't that he will give her sage advice when he thinks she needs it. Like, if she's thinking about something and he knows a little about it, he'll tell her what he knows. She trusts him with her life and is always thankful for any advice that he gives her.
Inner World: Her inner world is pretty vast. There is a section of beach, with nice weather all the time so she can swim, do a little training or whatever suits her. It's pristine and she can just relax and unwind if things are becoming too taxing for her. The beaches give way to the flowering plains. There are only two buildings on the plains. The dojo and a living quarters area.
It's pretty self explanatory what she does there. The dojo is to train herself, as well as with Leviathan, to better herself. The living quarters is where she has a spare bed in case she needs a break. There's a little pond by these buildings as well as a little zen garden. It's one of the most tranquil places which she is thankful for. Also, there are a few cherry blossom trees there, with benches so she can sit under them. Going from there is the volcano field. In the middle is the largest volcano, where Leviathan resides. He will mostly visit her in the other areas, but there are a few times that she will make the trek to visit him in his den.
Zanpakutou Appearances: In sealed form, the scabbard is purple with a scale pattern on it. The guard of the sword has what looks like two dragons flying opposite each other on it. The hilt is purple as well, regular binding. The blade has no design, just a regular blade.
In shikai state, the hilt remains purple, but the guard grows and wraps around her hand and wrist, making what looks like a dragon's tail. It is prehensile and if someone gets too close to her, it will strike in their general direction. It also turns into a dragon's head. The blade bends upward (picture a scimitar) and appears to be coming out of the dragon's mouth. When the power is activated, the sword gets set on fire, the flame turning purple. Her scabbard, on the other hand, goes up to her left side and turns into a little cannon covered with scales (picture mega man's gun on her left arm, of course sized to make her able to move her arm and use it). This little cannon will be able to shoot out scales to spew her fiery liquid.
In bankai state, the sword breaks off into two swords. The guards disappear, leaving only a hilt. The blades, on the other hand, turn into two dragon's heads, covered in purple dragon scales, with the purple liquid beginning seen inside of it (think of toshiro's ice dragon attacks and renji's bankai). The swords themselves are made of her liquid (they luminesce purple) and the scales are just the armor for them. She gains purple armor, resembling dragon scales, and her helmet is like a dragon's head.
Zanapkutou Release Names(Include both Shikai and Bankai names, and call out phrases) Shikai - Burn, Rivu~aiasan! (Leviathan).
Bankai - Burn everything, Sōdai rivu~aiasan no ofurōdā! (Grand Leviathan Scorcher)
Overall Ability: Her zanpakutou's overall ability is liquid fire. She has control over a liquid that she can light on fire with her reiatsu. While the fire burns, it can burn away reiatsu. It burns away the reiatsu of an attack and her enemies. She also has the ability to manipulate the scales of her zanpaktou to also spew this liquid. She can light any part of the liquid, from droplets and bigger, into fire. For her to ignite the liquid, it costs her 50 reiatsu. She has a limit on how to ignite the liquid that is out on the battlefield (For Bankai, the same area as her Bankai area of effect. Shikai is half that area). Also, since this is a rather unique liquid, the fire made from it is immune to water. It can only be put out by being covered in sand or earth, laying on top of the surfaces will not effect the flame.
Now let me explain a few things. This reiatsu burning is effective for as long as Shikai and Bankai are active. Her fire burns reiatsu, to the point that her fire can eat a reiatsu attack that is lower than her reiatsu strength. In Shikai, if their reiatsu strength is greater than hers by 50%, it is overridden. In Bankai, they have to have 100% superiority to override her power. Therefore, when the fire is released, the fire can affect reiatsu attacks. But, if someone comes into direct contact with her sword/scales/Bankai armor/actual fire she would release, the burn from the fire and heat would cause straight reiatsu damage.
When she runs into anyone using Blut or Hierro, the degree of burn they would receive is based on her reiatsu strength. Anyone that has reiatsu strength lower than hers will get a third degree burn. Anyone that has equal her reiatsu strength up to about one hundred points more will get a second degree burn. At one hundred points more, they will get a first degree burn, which is a very slight burn. If they are greater than one hundred points higher than her, they will feel the heat but won't take any direct damage from touching her, though getting that close to her will let her attack them directly. With every point in Heat Tolerance, the degree of burn lessens. If they don't have either of those defensive techniques, touching her sword/scales/Bankai Armor/actual fire in her released state would be an instantaneous burn that goes by the same reiatsu strength guidelines.
Shikai Overall Ability: When the sword is released, the liquid she has control over seeps from the dragon's mouth that is her guard and can be expelled from the dragon scales she can shoot out. She then lights it, making the entire blade aflame with purple fire. This first lighting comes with the release and she doesn't pay the cost for it. From the sword, she can secrete more of the liquid, flinging it around on surroundings and enemies and lighting whatever it touches. When she shoots out her scales from her cannon, they can expel the liquid, controlling somewhat her stream of liquid as well to light things on fire. She can switch her ammo on her cannon between the scales and liquid at no cost.
With having two different ways to disperse the liquid, it gives her greater distribution. Say she gets attacked from the front and the back. One of the ways she could deal with them is shoot from her left cannon scales to deal with the people behind her, while slashing with the liquid from her sword to the front of her. She could detonate the liquid at once, hitting them both. If an attack passes through her fire on the way to her, it gets lowered by her reiatsu strength, making an attack that started out at 1000, for example, turn into an acting strength of 300.
Bankai Overall Ability: In bankai, however, she is given even more mobility. Since her sword will break off into two separate whips, she can cause almost twice the damage. What gives her bankai some difference from other bankais are that the dragon heads do actually have Rivu~aiasan in them. So, the heads can move independently from one another and even seem to talk to each other. But, even though they have some of his consciousness, they will not attack anything on their own. They can only look around the area and move slightly in any direction (towards Hotaru or away with a limit of three feet).
With the whips, the liquid would be contained in their center, able to be seen through the cracks simmering purple. The scales covering the swords and the ones making up Hotaru's armor are the same that were created in Shikai. Therefore, whenever she wants, she can shoot off scales towards her enemies from her Bankai, even letting them inject people with her liquid or excreting the liquid. Also, since the core of the Bankai is Hotaru's liquid, when she wants, she can have the liquid ooze out from the core, covering the Bankai in her liquid or creating pools of her liquid on a surface and lighting it on fire when she wants.
The area of effect for the ambient reishi burning in this stage has increased to half a mile, stationary around Hotaru, taking the appearance of a huge ring of purple flames, the boundary flames reaching up to one mile in distance. If someone steps into the area of effect, besides having their reiatsu power lowered, they now will have a hard time to actually get out of it. If the enemy has an offensive stat greater than Hotaru's reiatsu strength, they will be able to pass through the flames, but they will receive second degree burns on the way out. If the enemy doesn't have an offensive stat greater than Hotaru's reiatsu strength, they will be unable to get out due to the great heat from her fire, which would repel them, keeping them inside.
Within the ring of fire, the reiatsu strength of all attacks are immediately lowered by her reiatsu strength. If they still try to attack her with a reiatsu based attack, and pass through her flames again, the attack will be lowered by half of her reiatsu strength.
Zanpakuto Techniques: For all techs, if the flame is redirected back at her, since she's not fireproof, she would lose half of the reiatsu that the enemy would've lost to the attack (if enemy would have lost 100 reiatsu, she would lose 50). Shikai Techs can also be used in Bankai.
Shikai Techs - Kasai-Tai (Fire Body): The liquid emitting from her sword and cannon can engulf her in an instant, letting her light it on fire. There is a hair's space between her and the flame that now engulfs her. This 'fire armor' will last for four posts and will cause 250 Reiatsu damage to anyone that can touch her or if she touches anything.
Cost: 150 Reiatsu
Weaknesses: If the enemy can find a way to get between her and the flame, such as having a high reaction time, she can get wounded before the armor takes effect. If they can put out her flames, the armor has no effect.
Kasai Hīringubodi (Fire Healing Body): She can shoot some of the liquid onto her own body, covering her wounds and instantaneously cauterize them. This can stop the bleeding on most wounds, very severe wounds (like serious stab wounds) will take her a post of cauterization to work.
Cost: 50 Reiatsu
Weaknesses: She will get fire damage from this attack, from slight to fairly severe. If the wound isn't deep, she will get a slight throb of pain. The throbbing increases until with very severe wounds, the pain is strong enough to the point that she can't use that limb for a post. If it's the chest, it's harder to breathe for one post.
Henkan O Hassha Suru Ekitai (Liquid to Fire Transformation): With her liquid secreating out of her released state, it is bound to hit some kind of liquid while it spreads. If it comes into contact with any liquid lower than her Reiatsu Strength, the liquid will be converted to her own liquid. For Shikai, the range is a fourth of a mile, Bankai range is half a mile.
Cost: 50 Reiatsu
Weaknesses: If the liquid is stronger than her Reiatsu Strength, this technique won't work. If there is no liquid around, this technique won't work.
Doragonburesu (Dragon breath): She makes her sword secrete a large amount of liquid. She sets the blade horizontally up to her lips and then blows hard against her blade, while igniting the liquid. The liquid will spray forward, making it look like she is actually breathing fire. The length is based off her reiatsu strength stat, so she can breathe fire up to her reiatsu strength in feet. For example, if she has 700 RS, she can breath fire 700 feet. They lose 200 reiatsu.
Cost: 100 Reiatsu
Weakness: If the enemy is able to dodge quick enough, she will be left open for a counter attack. If the fire is stopped by the enemy, the attack is nullified. If they get out of range of the attack, it won't work.
Misutofōmu (Mist Form): This technique allows her liquid to semi-evaporate, creating a thin veil of mist on the battlefield. The change takes place within one full post and after the liquid has changed into the mist, the change for that specific amount of liquid will last for three posts in Shikai, six in Bankai. The radius of the amount of liquid that can be changed to this form is half of her maximum reiatsu burning range in each state, i.e. Bankai is fourth of a mile instead of half.
If someone gets caught in this attack, the damage is cumulative, meaning the longer the enemy is in it, the worse they get hit. If they get caught in the mist for only one post, they will have slight burns on their body, first degree, with a 50 reiatsu hit. At two posts, it turns into second degree burns with a 100 reiatsu hit. Three is third degree with a 150 reiatsu hit. Now, after three posts, the damage gets a lot worse.
Four posts and the you get the worst third degree burns possible, before them turning into fourth degree burns, and a 200 reiatsu hit. Five and six posts, fourth degree burns and getting a 250 and 300 reiatsu hit respectively.
Cost: 100/250 Reiatsu
Weaknesses: If the enemy is able to avoid the areas of effect, this technique won't work. If the enemy has Heat Tolerance, each point in Heat Tolerance lowers the burns by one degree. She can only create three of these aoe's in a thread and only one can be active at a time. She is unable to create puddles of her liquid of equal or greater size of the mist aoe while it's active.
Bankai Techs- Taiki Hi No Ame (Atmospheric Fiery Rain): She sends one of her whips into the atmosphere, converting the liquid in the atmosphere above her into her liquid fire. The whip will shed its coating, making dragon wings that will appear on her back. These wings can be used for defense and offense, as well as helping her jump, but she can't fly with them. She can also use them to block out her fire rain.
Then, after the liquid joins with the atmospheric liquid, it immediately starts to rain. This process happens in two seconds. Hotaru will let it burn, making it rain fire. The rain is heavy that has a radius of half a mile and will last for six posts. If a person stays in this rain for one post, they will get third degree burns. Two posts is fourth degree burns. If they stay three posts or longer, with no defenses, they will be too damaged to continue fighting, i.e. pass out or dead.
Cost: 400 Reiatsu
Weaknesses: If they get out of her range of attack, it won't work. If they can block out all the rain, it wouldn't effect them. If they have Heat Tolerance, each point in it will lessen burns. For maximum, one post is no burn, two posts is second degree burn and they have to stay in for the FULL six posts to pass out/die. One of her whips would be unusable for two posts.
Saishū-Tekina Ringu Bakuhatsu (Final Ring Explosion): The ring of flames that extends from her Bankai starts to contract inwards towards her. It takes two posts for the flames to actually reach Hotaru. During this time, Hotaru is still the center of the circle and will follow her as she moves, still being able to burn ambient reiatsu. On the third post, the flames would reach her and then, instantaneously, the ring would contract towards her then expand outward quickly, in one direction of her choosing. This would use up the last of her Bankai, immediately sealing the sword once it was over. Because this is her 'final' Bankai attack, it will strike out with a strength and speed of 1000. 800 reiatsu damage is caused.
Cost: 450 Reiatsu
Weaknesses: She immediately is out of Bankai, her sword being sealed. She won't be able to release again for the remainder of the thread. There is a large emotional drain on her, for putting all of her energy and strength into the attack, making her rest for a full post afterwards and causing some second degree burns on her body. If the enemy can sidestep the attack, it will miss.
IC Reason: As she has reached the rank of Captain, she has trained harder, fighting with Asmoskon and getting to know more of her family. In this way, she has gotten to know herself better and through finding out more about herself, her zanpaktou has grown stronger, revealing to her new power she didn't know she had.

Technique Description and Effects:
A movement technique that allows the user to move faster than the eye can follow. The focal point that determines the bases of this technique is speed. As speed is the main point of the technique the method is best characterized by how fast one can get from point A to point B in the least amount of steps. Training and skill are what determines how fast a user of Shunpo can move; those of little skill in the technique or those who haven't used it an extended amount of time would obviously be out of practice, causing those individuals to be considerably slower, which requires the use of more steps to move the same distance and become winded far easier in a shorter amount of time. A single step magnifies speed for that step by 10 times. Uses 50 Reiatsu per step. This one is automatically learned in the academy. ALL shinigami know this when created. This technique does not take up a technique slot.
How to use technique:
A focus of reishi around the feet area, and then launching off into a single step which blurs, not unlike teleportation in appearance, except it is simply extremely fast movement. Often used to gain an edge in a single moment of combat, or to dodge incoming attacks.

Technique Description and Effects:
This is a technique designed especially for breakdancing and parkour, utilizing a more advanced version of air ground. While in a terrain where air ground exists, the user can create more complex surfaces like air walls, air ceilings, air ledges and even an air push. This allows the user to perform handstands and windmills on air as if it were normal ground or even stand upside-down on air as if gravity was reversed. The air push makes the air ground very elastic so that the user can jump higher and allows for slight movement even when restrained by a bakudou.
For a reiatsu cost of 25, the user will be able to momentarily cast an "air ground" on areas such as soul society and heuco mundo, allowing the user to "double jump" or cast shunpo in midair. The movement is so fast that an opponent may not be able to tell whether he was attacked from the front or the back and even an outside observer may find it impossible to tell what the movements are. Uses 100 Reiatsu per use. To use this particular brand of shunpo, the user must train to learn it. It is treated as a class 5 technique. As opposed to Shunpo, a 10x increase, Senka is an 11x increase.

Many speed or movement techniques exist for the sole purpose of going from point A to point B at an increased level of speed. Shinkirou is an unusual technique in this line, because instead of going from A to B, the user goes from A... to A. Essentially, it is referred to as something akin to a “double step,” in which the user steps in any direction, and then back into the original position. Visually, this barely creates a flicker, hardly noticeable below 200 Senses, and the whole technique lasts for no more than three seconds. What is the purpose of this technique? Similar to Utsusemi, it provides an afterimage coupled with a movement ability that allows the user to evade an attack while providing the illusion that they are hit with it. However, this technique allows the user to return to the spot, creating an effect that makes viewers think that the attack passed through the user. When used properly, one can follow up immediately following an attack that “goes through them” and catch an opponent off-guard. The step speed for this technique is 15x for each step, and it can be used up to twice per post.

Focus Reiatsu, then launch oneself in any direction. Upon landing, launch back in the same manner, all within three seconds of movement.

What a misleading technique name, indeed... A technique which is named after the oval guard of a katana, but is actually dealing in blades. What this does is allows the user to focus and gather their reishi to summon a blade in one of two ways. The first of these two ways is for it to actually stab out of their palm, drawing blood as a drawback, but creating a surprise blade at any time. The release of the blade in this case is instant, and it can retract, and the skin reseal after retracting. This blade is usually red in color, and fashioned completely from reiatsu. Length can vary from three inches to sixty inches. It possesses no special offensive properties besides the ability to stab.
The blade can also be formed inside of other entities. If the user maintains physical contact with another target, the blade can stab out from the other target's inside as well, at any length, so long as contact is maintained for three full seconds. This is an incredibly useful technique when used by those who are incredibly cunning.
How to use technique:
Gather and focus the necessary reishi. Blades can last as long as the user requires before they retract again, but the cost must be repaid every time a blade is resummoned after retracting.

This rapidly accelerates death from the wound, causing it within a matter of seconds as long as contact is held.

Technique Description and Effects: When this is activated, the user can place it on their fists, or on their weapon. This puts a sort of "sensor" on the target in question, and causes it to instantly become aware of an incoming physical attack and all details behind it, such as speed, motion, target, etc, once that attack is within two feet of the weapon or fists. The weapon will then move itself automatically and adjust in the direction of the proper guarding mechanism or dodging mechanism for the incoming attack, allowing the user to block early or consistently against all opponent maneuvers. This isn't, however an autoblock. It's a sensor that is an auto-move. The user can then notice the direction their weapon is moving in, and choose whether or not they heed the weapon's warning and follow the block or not. This allows effective guarding, however, even against significantly faster opponents or more skilled ones.
How to use technique: Focus reishi along the weapon. Once the sensor is created, it lasts for 6 posts before it must be renewed.

Consider this a unique technique. What it does is form a "substitute target" in the learner's soul and mind for a cost of 200 reiatsu. It's passive, and unless the user willingly chooses not to have it activate, then it activates the moment someone tries to use advanced energy sensory (400+) to try to discern things about the user of this technique. What this does is redirect the sensory inquiry to someone else that Hotaru is extremely familiar with. It must be someone that Hotaru has done combat against before. When someone tries to sense Hotaru with their sensory, they will instead sense this figure that she selects when this technique activates. Those of superior class to Hotaru will be able to bypass this technique and still sense her.

Memorable Figures: Her father has to be the most memorable figure in her life so far. Her father taught her everything she knows, gave her everything. Without him, she would not be the person she is today.
History:
She was born a single child in the loving house of a samurai and his wife. She would play with the cherry blossoms in the yard, wearing her favorite color purple. All the time she was growing up, her father taught her the ways of the samurai, of Bushido. These teachings would help her in the years to come.
One day, during the Mongol invasion of Japan (the first one), the shogunate was desperate for people to help fight and drive the mongols back. There was a horseman that showed up and told her father that he was ordered by the shogunate to go to the front lines to fight and that any male sons of his would also be forced to come. Since she was a woman, she was exempt. While her father was getting his things ready, she begged him not to go. He said he could not ignore an order from the shogun and left the house, with a kiss goodbye to her and her mother.
She waited months for her father to return or to even hear word of him, but nothing happened. She and her mother became anxious, so anxious that her mother would get sick from time to time due to this anxiety. She couldn't wait anymore and decided to take action. She went into her father's study and found her samurai armor. She she was the only child, her father refused to not follow tradition. Because of this, when she came of age, she gained her own sword and armor. She sliced her hair short enough to wear it in the traditional bun that was worn by men. She dressed in her armor and sword, took her horse and rode away. She wrote her mother a small note saying what she would do and to make sure that her father would return home.
She luckily heard where her father was being shipped and arrived at their camp after a few days ride. When she got there, she reported to her commanding officer and was assigned a tent. She gave him the name of some other family that she knew had many sons and the officer never questioned it. She put her horse by her tent and wandered the camp once she was settled. She walked and saw her father, tired, dirty and hurt sitting by one of the camps. She didn't want to make a scene in front of the other men outing herself, so she stayed back just being happy he was alive.
They had a campaign the next day and she happened to ask another officer how some of the soldiers make it home. He told her that they have to be injured enough to not be able to fight to be sent back. She then made it a priority that during this fight, her father would make it home. They hit the Mongols in an open field. The Japanese tried everything, but it seemed their was no end to the Mongols. Her and her father fought through the Horde. She always kept an eye on him to intervene just in case.
Thankfully, her father taught her how to fight, so she was more than able to take care of herself. All her extra practice with her blade with the younger men in town seemed to help as well. She saw that her father was starting to slow, so she made her way towards him. She saw that someone was ready to deal the death blow, so she hit the attacker just enough to where he hit her father's arm, amputating it completely. Her father screamed in pain while she took care of the attacker. She felt horrible for what happened, but she knew her father would make it home. She stood over him, protecting him until the fight was over. He looked up to thank the soldier and when he looked in her face, he knew who it was. His eyes teared up and he said thank you before passing out.
The next few days, her father was being cared for at camp and preparations were being made to send him home. He asked for her the day he was going home. Once she went in and made sure the tent was shut, he ran over and hugged/kissed her. He scolded her for coming out here to a man's fight, but was glad that he was saved by her. They talked for what seemed like hours. Then, it was time for him to go.
Once he got loaded onto the cart, however, they were attacked at their camp. She saw soldiers go down and saw the look of horror on her father's face. She knew she had to protect him at all costs, that's what good children did. She told the driver to go and she followed on horseback. She kept the Mongols at bay long enough for her father to escape. Unfortunately, it cost her her life. She was alive long enough to see him off and died with a smile on her face.
She then woke up what seemed like hours later. She immediately noticed that everything seemed to be off. The color was different and even she looked different. She looked down and saw herself, pale and bloodied. She knew then that she must be dead. She then looked down and saw a chain coming out of her chest that was broken. She didn't know what it meant, but looked around and saw no one else there. She wanted to know what happened to her father so she walked home, which took her longer since she could no longer ride a horse. She saw her horse was slain and cried for his loss.
She made it home and found that her father did make it safe back to her mother. After a few days, they got the news of her death. She saw the shrine they made for her and how they wept at her passing. She stayed and watched them move on, but she knew she couldn't stay. She said her goodbyes to them and wandered back to the camp and then forward to the horizon.
She kept walking for what seemed like years, fighting what was in her way (she seemed to keep her sword and armor after death). She eventually found someone dressed in a black robed outfit that also carried a sword at his side. She readied herself. The other man told her that he meant no harm, that he was here to help her. He explained where he was from and that his duty is to help souls cross over to what he called Soul Society. She assumed it was heaven from the way he described it. Once he was finished and thought about it, she agreed to go and she was wisked away to a place she hoped was as great as he described.
She woke up in this weird place, with some changes on her. She looked in a lake close by and saw that her hair was spiky short, turned the color purple, her favorite. She also now had a stylized purple dragon tattoo on her right arm. She also found a locket on her and when she opened it, pictures of her parents. She smiled and looked forward, hoping this place would be better.
She was right. She got to the academy and excelled there. It seemed like everything came a little easier than she thought, since she already have practice with swordplay. She received high marks, which is what she was hoping for. She aimed for the best squad, which for her was the first squad, since they were directly under the captain-commander. When she graduated, she was able to get into the squad she wanted. Her first few days were a little rocky, but she got the hang of it. With all the fighting and daily duties she helped with, she was able to become an officer in the squad. She's currently unranked, but she hopes she'll be ranked soon.
It seemed that she would get good enough to become ranked in a squad. She had met some interesting people while in Soul Society, like Kagami Murai, her Vice Captain and Takashi Kuchiki, just to name a few. She's gotten to fight both of the shinigami. Though, sadly for her, she was not able to beat either of them. With Kagami, she couldn't even cut him when they sparred together. He told her that he wouldn't fight her again until she could cut her. Then, there was Takashi. He was about the same strength as her, but could fight circles around her. He also told her that she still had a ways to go before they were true equals.
It made her frustrated. Frustrated to the point that she would take one crazy risk. She fought a demon she couldn't beat. She was barely able to crawl away from this demon alive. After this, she knew she had to take some drastic measures to try to make herself stronger. She went to the Twelfth Division and thanks to Sozen Kuchiki and the Twelfth Captain, she was changed to become a full blooded Kuchiki. This just made her drive to become stronger even more powerful.
She knew that now she was a part of a strong family and that she had to pull her weight. Just like her human family, she would not let her family down. With Sozen's training, she knew she could become stronger. But, she also knew that maybe the move to another squad would be helpful. She knows that Takashi is part of Squad 11 and she would love the chance to continue fighting him. But, she had heard about Iro Kuchiki, the captain of Squad 11 and would love to learn more tactics from a new relative. She walks into the Squad, hoping to prove to everyone that she is strong and she won't let anyone down. This samurai can still pull her own weight.
