Only updating the powers this time around. All changes are marked in red. On approval, I will move it to my profile myself. Thanks! Also, all of the techs are listed even though only three have actual changes to them because I added a little tidbit to each name and technically changed it, even though it's not really affecting anything.
Zanpakuto Techniques:
Haiiro
Haiiro Shi-Su (Gray Sheath – Suppression of Offense) – Haiiro Shi-Su is a technique that makes use of the ash floating about in the air and focuses its attraction on a specific area, namely an enemy’s weapon. As the ash coats the weapon, whether it is across the blade or any other portion used to strike, Haiiro Shi-Su causes the coated area to be blunted, making use of Zeich’s Spiritual Pressure in the form of the ash coating to weaken oncoming strikes. In practice, this makes it so that any physical attack with the coated area is dulled, reducing its ability to cut—i.e. the stat used to determine the cutting force of the attack—by an amount equal to Zeich’s Spiritual Pressure. This applies to even released weapons; they will be unable to cut if they fall below 150 difference between the offensive stat and Zeich's Spiritual Pressure, though the other effects of cutback will not occur, merely the inability to cut the user.
The major drawback to this technique is that the ash can only coat so much surface area at a time, meaning that multiple types of physical strikes can easily break through this defensive measure. For each portion of ash used, it can cover the length of a standard katana, or 60 cm/24 inches from one end to the other. Atop that, the ash must have a physical surface to coat, and thus this technique is useless against any Reiatsu-based attacks. And, last of all, it takes Zeich’s Reiatsu rather than the victim’s Reiatsu to bind the ash to a weapon, costing him 100 Reiatsu per post he chooses to keep it in place.
Haiiro Ken (Gray Blade – Suppression through Force) – Haiiro Ken is one of the few offensive techniques in Zeich’s Zanpaktou, and makes up for the fact that he does not have a weapon at Haiiro’s activation; the Shinigami can use the ash to form a melee weapon of any shape or type. The weapon can be bladed, can have spikes or blunt force, etc; regardless of the means of attack, the ash provides the shape and definition. The density of the weapon is dependent on the size; if it is the size of a normal katana or roughly that amount, then it is regular spiritual steel and can only be easily broken with twice Zeich’s Spiritual Pressure as normal. If it is larger than a katana by at least a 25% margin, then the weapon is more fragile and able to be broken with more ease, requiring only superior Spiritual Pressure. On the other end of the spectrum, a weapon that is smaller by at least a margin of 25% has twice the density, and requires twice Zeich's Spiritual Pressure to cause damage to the weapon, rather than outright breaking it as normal. This technique costs 50 Reiatsu per weapon formation or reformation, in the event of breaking.
Additionally, this technique comes with a useful bonus ability; any weapons formed by Haiiro Ken are treated as though Zeich has a “1” in them as long as the weapon exists and is currently being wielded. It allows him to use the weapons with enough competency to not trip over them while preventing him from being as skilled as those who have taken the time to train and master said weapons. This is due to the ability to control the ash that has formed the weapon, guiding the weapon's motions with his mind as much as his body in combat, and it enables him to make use of any tool he creates, albeit to a limited extent.
In Bankai, this technique gains an additional trait. By paying 100 Reiatsu, Zeich can add an extra “point of durability” to his weapons, both those formed from Haiiro Ken and other ones. To do so, he thickens the ash around his weapon, reinforcing the steel and making it sturdier against powerful blows. For each additional point of durability, Zeich’s enhanced weapon can take one additional hit from a powerful source (see above for weapons formed with Haiiro Ken, or 2x Zeich’s Reiatsu Strength for any other spiritual steel weapon) without breaking, even if it normally would. This does not mean he can suddenly defend against any attack; though his weapon may not break, it does not reduce impact, increase his ability to block, or anything else. The weapon only becomes sturdier and more durable.
The first drawback to this, though, is that the weapons in themselves are not special. They are easy to form, fairly inexpensive, but they have no special traits to them. They are just standard weaponry, and when formed have a variable amount of durability depending on their size. Each time a weapon is formed or the shape of a weapon is altered, it costs 50 Reiatsu, though this seems like a negligible cost unless an enemy possesses the superiority of Reiatsu Strength to break weapons repeatedly. Being made of ash, they can reform quickly, but the cost to create them causes them to become a drain on Reiatsu against an opponent who possesses that superiority consistently.
Haiiro Masuku (Gray Mask – Suppression of the Senses) – A binding technique, Haiiro Masuku coats the head, covering the face, ears, and hair, everything above the neck, in ash. This ash is not meant to suffocate, however, but to isolate on a sensory scale; when it binds a target, it reduces the target’s Senses by 25% for every major portion of ash used. In Shikai, this can stack up to 75% at the cost of using three portions of Zeich’s available ash, while in Bankai it can shut off all senses but touch completely. However, this isn’t just for the enemy; Zeich can use this technique on himself or others, and at varying potency, controlling how much of their senses are reduced. However, the cost is in static tiers; for 25% or less Senses, its cost is one major portion of ash; 26% to 50% is two major portions, 51 to 75% is three, and any higher is four. This allows protection from attacks that strike at the senses by dulling them, making Haiiro Masuku a very flexible attack. Multiple effects can be active at once, as long as the ash is available. Naturally, during Bankai, any amount can be covered at any time.
The first drawback to this technique’s variable effects is that it uses up ash, and in large amounts should Zeich choose to use a more effective level of use. This also does not stack with the Shikai’s ability to drain Reiatsu as long as it is active despite covering a major area; instead, the senses are affected. Techniques still gain the same 10% increase in cost, regardless of the target, meaning that it affects allies and Zeich too should it be active on them. Finally, Haiiro Masuku costs 200 Reiatsu to maintain per post.
Haiiro Gokusha (Gray Prison – Suppression of Movement) – Another somewhat offensive technique meant for suppression of movement, Haiiro Gokusha allows Zeich to create wrappings of gray ash around the target’s arms or legs, keeping them bound together in order to restrict movement and ability to retaliate. These bindings are simple affairs, appearing almost like ash-gray bandages that wrap around the targeted limbs. However, they are much sturdier than they look; Zeich’s ability to suppress is based on his Spiritual Pressure, which is his way of suppressing and putting down his opponent, and thus as a result he compares his Spiritual Pressure to his opponent’s Strength, should they try to break out physically, or Reiatsu Strength should they be trying to break out with the use of spiritual power. Strength of Will at a 2 or higher allows the reduction of requirements to 75% of Zeich’s Spiritual Pressure. These bindings also possess Haiiro’s suppressive powers, increasing Reiatsu costs of those bound by it by 10% per set of bindings, which stacks up to 20% total with both arms and legs bound. However, each use takes two sections of ash from the total five, meaning that there is very little left if both sets of limbs are bound during Shikai.
In Bankai, this technique is strengthened accordingly. By paying double the cost (see drawbacks), Zeich can reinforce the first set of bindings with a second layer over them, which now take on the form of gray chains made from the ash that tie in tightly over the initial wrappings. This reinforcement makes it so that to break the technique, an opponent must possess EITHER a Strength or Reiatsu Strength greater than twice Zeich’s Spiritual Pressure, depending on which type of force they are using to break free of their bindings. Strength of Will at a 3 can reduce the requirement to only 75% superiority to Zeich’s Spiritual Pressure. In addition, the additional layer of bindings increases its suppressive effects, increasing the costs of the victim’s techniques by 20% per binding in effect, up to a maximum of 40% with both arms and legs bound.
The cost for this technique is a simple 150 Reiatsu per post for its normal form, and 300 Reiatsu per post in its advanced, doubled-up form. In addition, this is heavily taxing on Zeich’s ash reserves, using two out of five sections of ash for binding one set of limbs. That is 40% of his ash that is used for either overall or techniques when this ability is used for one area, or 80% for two areas. Finally, Strength of Will can help reduce the effectiveness of this tech if the victim has a sufficient amount, allowing them to break through the bindings more easily.
Haiiro Nayami
Haiiro Kasumi (Gray Mist – Suppression of Form) – The first of Zeich’s Bankai techniques, Haiiro Kasumi allows the Shinigami to make use of his cloud of ash by actually dissolving his body and weapons into it. A nearly impenetrable defensive technique, this ability allows him to avoid harm as long as he is in an ashen form, short of widespread attacks that can remove the entire cloud of ash. Otherwise, he is literally untouchable; as long as enough ash remains to compose his figure, he cannot take any severe amount of damage. Atop that, Zeich is able to reform only part of his body from the ash at any time he chooses and at any place within the cloud of ash, meaning that he could appear from anywhere. Complete dissolution and reformation are both fast processes, taking no more than five seconds for either. Partial dissolution and reformation take no more than two seconds for a single individual limb.
The weakness to Haiiro Kasumi, when used on Zeich, is that it forces the Shinigami into a completely defensive battle; as long as he is dissolved into the ash, he cannot attack. To attack, he must reform the entirety of a limb that is used to attack, even with a weapon; for example, if he chose to attack with his sword, both the sword and the entire arm used to swing the weapon must be reformed, meaning that Zeich is vulnerable during attack even with this technique. Haiiro Kasumi’s main purpose is to avoid attack as well as provide a tactical advantage of being able to attack from any direction. This technique also costs 100 Reiatsu per post to keep hidden; should the cost not be paid, Zeich will instantly reform, though at a location of his choice.
However, the technique also has a more sinister use when turned to offense. Dissolving himself into ash allows Zeich to avoid an enemy's strikes by making himself so dispersed that it is impossible to create any form of lasting harm on him, but by making physical contact with an enemy, Zeich can instead begin dispersing his opponent's body. Upon making contact with any part of a foe, the Shinigami can infuse his Reiatsu into that person's body and begin dissolving it into ash based on the point of contact. Prolonged contact is not necessary; only the initial touch is required. This dissolution causes no actual harm to the victim's body, much like his own dissolution will not harm Zeich; instead, it's simply converting their form into another shape. However, the trick that makes this technique deadly is that the enemy has no control over their dissolution, and cannot resume their normal form without Zeich willing it. That means should Zeich manage to convert an enemy completely to ash, they will be unable to act unless he re-forms them. And should he end his Bankai at any point, the extra ash that comes with it simply disappears. If an enemy is caught within this technique, lost in the ash... they are lost forever, unable to be recalled even after Bankai is reactivated.
This technique is far harder to use on others though, for a number of reasons. For one thing, the activation alone requires physical contact. Besides that, Zeich's Spiritual Pressure is checked against his opponent's Reiatsu Strength or Spiritual Pressure, whichever is higher, and if the foe is greater, then they can resist the effects of the transformation. Normally, assuming Zeich has superior strength by even a single point, each post under the effects of Haiiro Kasumi would dissolve roughly a fifth of the victim's body spreading from the contact point. Five posts are required to completely dissolve a person. Superior spiritual strength to Zeich increases the number of posts to eight, and 25% higher increases it to ten. Should the foe have 50% higher Reiatsu Strength or Spiritual Presure than Zeich's Spiritual Pressure, this technique will be completely unable to affect them. Foes of superior Class can resist this as well; one Class increases the post requirement to ten posts, and two grants complete immunity.
However conversely, if Zeich has 50% or higher Spiritual Pressure than the opponent's Spiritual Pressure or Reiatsu Strength, then the number of posts required to dissolve an opponent is reduced to three posts. Superior Class does not grant bonuses, however. For Zeich to keep this technique active and dissolving a foe, he is also required to pay 200 Reiatsu per post that he is dissolving the foe into ash; this means that at a high advantage, it only costs him 600 Reiatsu to completely dissolve a foe. At a high disadvantage, however, it can cost him as much as 2000 Reiatsu to dissolve an enemy of greater strength or Class. Naturally this technique can be canceled partway to leave a foe crippled, as a portion of their body is dissolved into ash and unable to be used.
Kokushibyou (Black Death – Suppression of Life) – The killblow of Zeich’s Bankai, Kokushibyou is a move that destroys the enemy from the inside out. As the battle progresses, the enemy is constantly breathing in the cloud of ash that is formed from Haiiro Nayami, meaning that their lungs are coated with the substance as time passes. It starts unnoticeable, but if at least four posts have passed since Haiiro Nayami was released, then the enemy begins to have some breathing difficulties, usually coughing up ash as best as they can throughout. At eight posts, breathing has become so difficult that one’s vision starts spinning as oxygen supplies become strained. It is at this point that Kokushibyou can be used, and it is at this point that an enemy can be destroyed.
Kokushibyou literally turns the ash in an opponent’s lungs into a thousand sharp black daggers that stab in every direction, rapidly growing in length as they begin to pierce through the opponent’s body. As they do, they leave behind more ash, which in turn becomes more bladed death that tears through the skin and muscle. The victim’s skin starts to darken as the ash-based pestilence spreads through their body, especially as blades start emerging from their skin; slowly they crumple inwards on themselves, victim to the Black Death of Zeich’s Bankai.
The drawback to this technique is that it requires time to use; eight posts is a significant amount of time, after all. Atop that, ash can be expelled from the lungs with the use of Reiatsu; for every 400 Reiatsu the victim spends, they can release enough ash from their bodies to turn back the countdown by one post. However, this does give Zeich an advantage, causing enemies to spend their Reiatsu quickly between the ash coating their bodies and the ash in their lungs.
