The last three days had been hectic for Squad 9, more so than usual. Despite the normal chaos of dealing with severe budget overuse and an attention-lacking Captain, things had somehow gotten surprisingly worse. Over the last three days, half of the people from Squad 9 hadn't even been seen outside of their barracks, because the entirety of the Squad had been occupied, busy with a mountain of paperwork or running deliveries. Anyone glancing over their shoulders would be surprised to see that they weren't doing anything important, such as breaking codes or deciphering enemy communication, unless said communication came in the form of coded invitations. And each Shinigami in the Squad had a fair-sized stack to go through, writing personal letters, sealing them in envelopes, and setting them aside for other squad members to gather up and deliver. Just what sort of event was going on that required a whole squad's work to organize it? The question was quickly answered by any of the exasperated squad members: Captain Souretsu had a birthday coming up, and wanted to celebrate it with a party.
What was worse was that the Captain had an enormous list of friends, contacts, acquaintances; you name it. The patron of just over ninety bars, Raion had gathered many followers who were thankful for his generosity in building so many places for them to carouse and enjoy themselves. The truth was that a good chunk of that money came from the Squad's budget, but no one had really done anything about it, so it had gone unchecked for a while now, much to Vice Captain Shiba's despair. But either way, because of his kindness, Raion had quite the group of friends, and because of that just about every single man and woman in many of the Rukongai districts had an invitation to the party. Invitations had been sent out to a large number of Shinigami as well, including the entirety of Squad 9, and a general flier had been posted up in several places to cover any stragglers who had been missed.
However, there was a catch to the party; it had a theme. And what better theme than pirates? Raion had decided to do something fun for his birthday, and designated it as a costume party for those who chose to attend. Obviously, costume was mandatory, but as long as it fit the pirate theme, the lion was satisfied. He himself had gone all-out in designing his costume, spending a fair chunk of money on a tailor who had to find materials for such a large figure, and had also gotten a few extras designed and sent out for others to enjoy. Specifically, one such outfit had been sent to Anastasia Solis, his best friend and first mate, in more than one way, wink-wink-nudge-nudge. Raion had taken a lot of time to design that particular outfit!
The party was set to convene at noon that day, at a place called the “Sea Lion's Den.” No one had heard of a tavern or building by that name... well, no one except the residents of Rukongai District 2. Over the last three days, a frantic gathering of individuals had tirelessly worked to create a building just for this party, supervised and headed by Raion himself until it was perfect. The result was astonishing; what looked like an enormous ship parked in the middle of the Rukongai had been built, complete with mast and sails, even oars and—to the worry of those watching—cannons. The front even had a carved figurehead that looked much like Raion... well, it would be Raion if the Captain were half his weight and had hit the gym for the last two centuries or so, considering it was an ideal male body, tastefully censored (much to Raion's dismay, but he couldn't get the architect to budge on the matter) and posed like one of those famous paintings with the man's arm outstretched to God.
The entrance was actually on the second floor of the ship, but there was a long gangplank lowered for partygoers to enter. Really, it was more just a flight of stairs, but Raion called it a gangplank, because it was pirate-themed to do so. At the top were a pair of Squad 9 members who were designated “bouncers;” if anyone dared to come to the party in a non-pirate outfit, they were “escorted” to the first level of the ship, where there were almost four dozen jail cells set up for the “brig.” If anyone was a killjoy or wasn't in costume, they'd find themselves locked up for the remainder of the party, or until they had mended their ways. For those not in costume, that meant they had to pay for a rental. Of course, anyone could leave at any time, but they would not be allowed back into the party.
Raion himself was waiting in a cabin that connected to the deck, which made up the entire third floor. The deck area was massive, easily big enough to fit the majority of the guests, though there was also the mess hall—i.e. the dining hall with several tables loaded with food, though no utensils; everyone was expected to eat with their fingers—as well as three or four cabins similar to Raion's own, albeit several sizes bigger as they were expected to hold thirty or forty people each, smaller party rooms for those who wanted to get away from the deck. Additionally, every room had at least two or three large casks of alcohol, at least one of which was Raion's home-brewed sake, and the deck had dozens of barrels laid out and ready to be tapped for people to really have a good time at the party.
The lion was waiting in his cabin for the guests to arrive and mingle a bit before making his own grand entrance, flourishing a saber and showing off his own customized outfit. Well, at least he had plenty to do in the meantime; with a hidden knothole in the floor connected with some viewing—tele-something... that thing pirates used to see through, like a tube—Raion could watch the guests arrive, and decide through sheer random choice which would receive his “door prize,” a very special costume that he had set aside for a lucky individual to enjoy. After all... it was another custom-designed one, even if it was a little colorful to the point of being gaudy. Who didn't enjoy rainbows, though?
And, even as he thought that, the first guests were arriving! Raion quickly pressed his eye to the lens to watch...
((OOC: Feel free to enter and mingle with one another! Make sure to include a pirate costume or else you'll be thrown in the brig, but aside from that... have fun! It's a drunk lion pirate party!))
