Before he realized it, Zieg had escaped his grip by using his revolvers to sever his own clothing. Shade had instantly recognized the threat to his hand and as the two bullets went through the clothing Shade pulled the bundle of clothing closer to him with all his strength. This caused a tear in the lieutenant’s clothing which was aided by both bullet holes. It also allowed the san-seki’s hand to escape harm by pulling it away from where it had previously been. Shade was left holding a rather large piece of the vice-captain’s clothing, as both parties remained uninjured. However, first blood was drawn by Zieg the instant after he dodged Shade’s swing. With careful aim the lieutenant shot the san-seki in the right side.
Shade felt the pain instantly. It was not a life-threatening injury, or even a crippling one. But it hurt like hell. Perhaps it was time to use his shikai’s final ability. There would be no point in saving it if he was unable to fight. Shade’s hand ran over his bleeding side and collected some blood on his fingers. The san-seki then took his bloody fingers and ran them over the slimy skin of his shikai. Instantly the third seat’s reiatsu flared indicating he gained some sort of power boost from the blood.
He was ready to continue but was confused when Zieg opened his mouth to speak. “Hm, close one, you are indeed a troublesome opponent to fight up close. Times I wish you were more like the captain's blade Soshi,” he said Shade held his zweihander out in front of him to make sure that his vice-captain didn’t shoot him with his revolvers a second time, “Now listen to me, kid,” said Zieg addressing Shade, “I have seen the strongest among the shinigami, I have fought against opponents that I couldn't beat, I have survived these battles and have striven to become stronger. Though I have, I too yearn for more power then I currently have, and that takes time. You do have potential, I see that, and yes you might even hold the position of vice captain in the future. However, the way you are now, you have a ways to go until that becomes a reality, its just the way it is.”
Shade showed no reaction to the vice-captain’s words. Instead his glaring eyes observed from behind the safety of his shikai. He was planning his next move, he would surely butcher his lieutenant and leave him humiliated. Then Zieg said something unexpected. Turning away the lieutenant muttered, “Now, if you are done trying to kill me, follow me.” Why was he stopping the fight? What was the meaning of this? Shade watched Zieg climb the steps of the dojo and wondered what he should do. “GET HIM NOW! WHILE HIS BACK IS TURNED!” yelled Buraindo Kira furiously. But Shade knew that Zieg was done fighting. There was no honor or point in fighting an opponent that had given up. It was not good training nor would he gain the benefit of cutting him since he had already fed his blade today. So Shade slung Buraindo Kira over his shoulder and followed cautiously behind Zieg.
