One of the worst parts about living in Japan, and more importantly Tokyo, was that going into work or getting off work, was one of the worst times of the day. There were so many people that wandered through the city. Office workers heading home, well, most actually were going to the local bars to stuff themselves on sushi and guzzle down beer with their bosses or coworkers. Though that was definitely something accurate about him being a "gaijin". He didn't like going out drinking or partying, much. Then the subways were so damn crowded he felt like he was a sardine in a can and it was one of the worst things.
He kept his eyes glued to his phone as he stood there amongst all the people and read through texts and emails he'd ignored. His cousin, Randall, was asking how he was and was even offering Raphael to move to the clan's compound in northern Ireland, which he wasn't going to do. Donovan and Michael had moved to California, and had apparently started their own business using "magic" for parties, not something Raph had ever thought they'd actually go in for. Leonard had moved to the south, ironically to Texas and Raphael shook his head, chuckling. Seriously?
The train came to a stop and he got off at the Karakura Town station, and made his way through the crowds as best he could. It was like wading through a sea of people... Any luck, he might be able to grab some dinner before going out on patrol for the evening. More and more hollows had been showing up recently and he was busier and busier. There weren't enough shinigami to cover every part of Karakura Town and so Raphael was going out to make sure people were safe. Thankfully, it'd been a few days since there were several at a time. If he was lucky, there might not be any show up today.
Slowly, he ran his fingers over the cross that had once belonged to his brother, the same one he'd watched Brian use for years over the course of their childhoods. He knew that his brother was absolutely fuming over this. His brother had never taen indly to Raphael pretending to be more than he was and always loved kicking raphael while he wasdown, whenever he could. Raphael, by extension, had only ever tried to be someone that his parents could be proud of and his brother could love.
That had been a mistake.
He'd never realized that his mother and father had always loved him, he'd never needed to prove anything to them, but he felt like he had because of what they were and what he was. His brother, however, would never accept him. To Brian, Raphael would always be the black sheep in the family and he remembered his brother telling his Jennifer and Christopher that it was their decision to take in Raphael that had driven him to the Vandenreich. That made no sense to Raph, especially given that the Vandenreich basically wanted to control everything...
He sighed, looking around. He wasn't going to get any kind of option to get dinner, most likely... Not how he'd want to, anyways. Going into a convenience store by the station, he grabbed a rather basic meal of instant ramen, and some rice balls. Then he rushed home, cooking the instant ramen and heading back outside. It was just that time. With a quick burst of Bringer's Light, he landed on top of a nearby building, and sat down on the edge, before beginning to eat and drink his water. Maybe... he'd try to reach out to Kaen. Or, if he encountered one, another shinigami...
