It was just a night like any other. The sidewalks were busy and bustling with people going throughout their day. Roads filled with cars stopped by traffic. But, unlike an American city, there wasn’t anyone laying on the horn trying to vent their frustrations. It was a little after midday. Probably closer to one o'clock. One of the busier times of day for sure. Salarymen were out and about looking to get something to eat for lunch. One such eatery, Akaushimaru, was particularly popular and quite well-known for its beef products. One such patron who decided to make a visit today for lunch was none other than Luke Clyburn. Having managed to find some time off from his incredibly, incredibly, busy schedule Luke decided he wanted some fresh air and to eat out of the office this time.
Sitting alone at the oval-shaped bar, the amber-eyed Bount kept his eyes locked onto his smartphone screen. His eyes would dart from left to right before swiping the screen with his phone and letting out a sigh. ”Email after email after email…” he complained before finally putting his phone down and rubbing his eyes. Who would have thought accepting the position he now had would come with so much administrative work? That was the part he hated most when he was a Manager during his time at UE. He absolutely detested dealing with emails, and spreadsheets, reading through information reports. Thankfully his team handled most of the legwork but there was still plenty of work that Luke needed to do as well.
”One large beef bowl?” a waiter suddenly said, pulling Luke away from his personal pity party as his food was delivered. Thanking the server as he left, Luke tore apart a pair of chopsticks and looked at his food. Slices of beef mixed with sliced onion and white rice. Luke’s stomach let out a loud gurgle as he looked the food over and, after putting some extra ginger on the side, Luke dug in. He was ravenous. Not only physically but spiritually as well. The hunger pains he was experiencing in his soul had not yet been abated. This meant he would need to go out on another hunt tonight. But for right now, Luke just wanted to enjoy his lunch break and not worry about anything. He just wanted to focus on this fantastic bowl of beef in front of him.
Once he was done and everything was paid for Luke took to the streets. Looking at his watch and letting out a sigh, he figured it was about time he started heading back to work. Just as he decided to do that his phone started going off. Looking at the number on the screen he blinked. “XXX-XXX-4253” was the number Luke saw. Clicking answer and holding his phone to his ear, Luke answered with a simple, ”Takaba?” one of the members of his team. Luke made it abundantly clear that he didn’t want to be bothered, at all, when he was on break. He needed this recharge time. The only exception was if his boss, who wouldn’t LET Luke ignore her, called. Luke had wanted to bring her to lunch with him but she was also rather busy today. But as Takaba started to explain his reason for calling, Luke’s perfectly normal day would change.
The ground shook as if an earthquake suddenly happened. People started to shout and scream in panic. Luke, wide-eyed, turned around and looked in the direction he felt it coming from. A burst of reiatsu not terribly far away flashed behind a series of tall buildings off in the distance. Just who the hell was firing off reiatsu in the middle of the day in Karakura? But the thing that gave Luke pause, the thing that made him stare off in that direction with wide eyes, was the way that reiatsu felt. It was unmistakable. Reiatsu that he had only ever felt from two other individuals. Two individuals that when Luke was just slightly reminded of, set him off. It’s them! Luke declared in his mind with teeth pressing together. He couldn’t possibly mistake the reiatsu belonging to a Vandenreich. ”Takaba!” Luke announced into his phone, catching his coworker by surprise. ”Get a cover story ready, and a network blackout underway. Tell the boss I’m engaging with an enemy.” were the only orders Luke gave before hanging up the phone and dashing towards the reiatsu he felt.
Was it them? Was it one of those two or another one? Luke could feel the similarity in reiatsu but the distance was still too great for him to make out an individual. So the Bount sprinted at his full speed, having no problem avoiding any person on the side walk or any vehicle at intersections, as he made his way towards the source of reiatsu. Who was it? Why were they here? Luke wouldn’t let this opportunity go to waste. When was the last time one of their kind came to the city? Right on his doorstep too.
