The morning sun cast a gentle glow over the Squad Ten training grounds, illuminating the well-worn path that Tala Selao tread upon. The echoes of previous clashes lingered in the air, a reminder of his previous spar with Captain Celes. Today, the weight of doubt rested on Tala's shoulders as he approached the familiar arena. The desire for growth, mingled with a touch of self-doubt, had drawn him back here, where Captain Celes awaited his return.
His Zanpakuto, Hasu, felt heavier than usual on his back, its flames flickering with a subdued intensity. Tala couldn't shake the weariness that accompanied the anticipation of facing Captain Celes once again. The memories of their last encounter lingered, a silent reminder of the formidable skill and experience he was about to test himself against. And this time he would be alone in facing her intimidating power.
A hesitant breath escaped him as he bowed respectfully to Captain Celes, the morning air carrying the subtle fragrance of blossoming sakura. "Captain Celes, I return seeking another chance to face your formidable skills. My first encounter left me with more questions than answers, and I'm uncertain of my own abilities. Yet, I believe facing you once more could unveil truths I'm yet to grasp."
The air around Tala seemed to waver, a manifestation of the conflicting emotions within him. The flames on Hasu mirrored the flickering uncertainty within Tala. He met Celes's gaze with a mixture of respect and trepidation. "Our last encounter left me with questions, and I hope this spar will provide the answers I seek." With a deep breath and a gaze that betrayed a hint of vulnerability, Tala awaited Captain Celes's response, aware that the training grounds held the stage for a test that could either shatter his doubts or deepen the shadows that clung to his confidence.

"Okay everyone. Take a deep breath in. Shift your weight to the other foot.", a voice softly rose above the gentle breeze. "Breathe out and extend." As the girl spoke, a group of about five or so Shinigami followed her motion to varying success. Nadia was demonstrating a little self-care course focused on the internal martial art of tai chi. The member of the Tenth Division had been an avid practitioner of the style for some time and felt ready to offer a brief hour-long seminar on the style. Within the small group, perhaps most notably, was their own Captain who followed along.
The lime-haired Shinigami, a martial artist for most of her life, slid her arm and foot outward. Her form itself wasn't bad, but it was far from perfect. Nadia chuckled and called out, ""Captain. Remember not to tense up as you perform the movement." Celes looked down at her arm and shoulder, noticing the tension herself. She sighed and relaxed a little more. "Oh. My mistake, Nadia." The Captain's apology earned a brief smile from the Unseated Officer. "No need to apologize. These classes are all about meeting people where they are. Just envision your body going limp and being held up by a string."
The Captain nodded and continued following each movement, attempting to reduce the tension she felt in her body. The seminar continued on for a few minutes before a little alarm clock suddenly chirped. Everyone's attention shifted towards the clock as Nadia shuffled her feet closer and addressed the group. "Okay everyone, let's come to closing." Everyone nodded and shuffled their feet closer before placing their left palm over their right fist and bowing out.
Suddenly, a loud voice erupted from the group. "Ugh. Nadia! My body feels so damn stiff!" The instructor couldn't help but let out a chuckle. "You'll be sore the first few times. Just remember to try and relax. Trust in the process~" He shook his head and began to shuffle off as more of the crowd dispersed, thanking the girl for the lesson. As Celes let out a small yawn accompanying her stretch, her amber eyes met Nadia's. "I'm so glad you were able to join us today, Captain. It's really not the same when you're not around."
The Captain shot her a brief smile. "Yeah. It's nice to take it easy for a change of pace...", she admitted. "Kinda a damn shame that I lost a bit of my edge with these forms, though." "Use it or lose it, Captain. It happens. You're always welcome to join in any time." Celes couldn't help but smile at the invitation. "I just might take you up on that, Nadia." The officer smiled brightly before bowing, excusing herself.
As Celes gathered her belongings, the girl pondered about what the day held. It seemed that the last few days had been comprised of seemingly endless stacks of paperwork. Aside from that were the updates to the duty roster. She couldn't help but let out a soft sigh as she turned on her heel to leave the training grounds. Before she had a chance though, she saw a familiar face on the other end of the grounds. It was Tala, the Seventh Seat of the Third Division. "Well then... this is certainly a surprise." Celes couldn't remember any recent summons for the Seventh Seat, but she was a little intrigued.
The girl barely had a chance to appropriately greet Tala before he bowed before her. "Captain Celes, I return seeking another chance to face your formidable skills. My first encounter left me with more questions than answers, and I'm uncertain of my own abilities. Yet, I believe facing you once more could unveil truths I'm yet to grasp." The Captain couldn't help, but blink. "I... see.", she responded cautiously. From the sound of it, Tala wanted to spar her. It was a little out of the blue given the Shinigami's previous apprehension in fighting her. Meeting her gaze, he briefly added, "Our last encounter left me with questions, and I hope this spar will provide the answers I seek."
Celes let out a soft sigh and placed her hand against her hip. The old her would've jumped on the chance, but nowadays? The lime-haired girl was tired. She rarely found herself in the appropriate headspace after what happened with Yunorashi. Hell, sometimes she barely wanted to get out of bed. Nevertheless, she wondered what questions were burning on Tala's mind for him to seek her out. After all, he had alot of Captains and even other officers to pick from. The girl sensed no ill motive from the Shinigami across from her. She could sense no attempt at deceit.
"Well Tala. What is it that you are trying to answer?" Celes narrowed her eyes briefly as she looked into Tala's own. "What do you wish to learn in a spar against me?" The Captain of the Tenth was, admittedly, a little curious. There were various reasons that motivated a warrior to fight. That motivation alone could tell alot about a person. However, that motivation could also change. "So what is it that motivates you, soldier?", she thought to herself as she stood there, waiting.
Tala averted her narrowed gaze, looking back to the ground as he swallowed hard. What was the question he was trying to answer? He knew what it was but he felt shame in making it known. As if speaking it would bring some terrible reckoning upon him yet he could not help but have the doubts eat at him. Every expedition he lead, it was there in the back of his head and while he has proven himself many times before he still finds himself back at square one.
So why would this be any different? Why would this spar with a Captain, that isn't even his own but that of Squad Ten, change that? It was very simple and easy to deduce that. When he brought his gaze back up to meet the Captain's she'd see a bit of shame and guilt in his face but also determination in his eyes as he sighs and gives her the question that he's been asking himself since he left the academy, "I need to know if I'm worth it. I need to know if there's more to me or if this is where I meet my wall."
He sighs as he looks away again, "...if I'll be able to make Vice Captain someday." It sounded so selfish and childish to his own ears, hearing him say it. He never had those kinds of aspirations before. Yet that was before he'd joined Squad Three, before he'd gone through the Hell Invasion and before he'd lead a few expeditions. Yet now he knew that there was more to being a Shinigami than just patrolling the Rukongai or the Living World.
He could make a difference in other ways than just leading expeditions or going on patrols. However, he'd need to reach a higher seat than what he currently held, and if he was going to aim for higher then he'd might as well aim for the highest. At least as high that wasn't Captain. He couldn't see himself there yet but Vice Captain was suitable for what he wanted to accomplish. "My Captain has been uncharacteristically busy lately but then again, I'm still much too frightened to spar with him. So I figured you were my only other best option left. I mean...I don't really know a lot of people outside of my squad save for a few." He glances back at her, "But you're the only other Captain I've met. Someone who has already risen through the ranks. Who knows what it takes and can tell me the truth."

So Celes waited, her eyes meeting Tala's own. What could have driven him here? What was he trying to figure out? "I need to know if I'm worth it. I need to know if there's more to me or if this is where I meet my wall." She hummed briefly, continuing to listen as she had a bit of an idea of where this was headed. "...if I'll be able to make Vice Captain someday." The Captain's eyes briefly lit up with a hint of curiosity. "So the fledgling wants to aim even higher? Hmm...", the lime-haired Shinigami thought to herself.
However, the girl did wonder why the Officer couldn't consult with his own Captain. From what she was aware of, Captain Tsuyoshi was quite the powerhouse himself. While he lacked a proper release, he wielded a physical prowess that was comparable to Celes own. Alas, it seemed that she'd get her answer soon enough. "My Captain has been uncharacteristically busy lately but then again, I'm still much too frightened to spar with him. So I figured you were my only other best option left. I mean...I don't really know a lot of people outside of my squad save for a few." The girl just nodded her head. "But you're the only other Captain I've met. Someone who has already risen through the ranks. Who knows what it takes and can tell me the truth."
"I see.", Celes remarked. She had to admit that she was rather sympathetic towards the Seventh Seat. The girl tapped her shoulder for a few moments, mulling it over. Tala had sought her out of his own accord. Someone to measure his abilities. Meeting his gaze, Celes spoke softly, "Well, I'll admit that I am surprised that Tsuyoshi can't make them for an evaluation, but... I do get that work can pile up." As she spoke of work, the Captain's facial expression had disgust written all over it. Oh, how she fucking hated the paperwork that came with the job, sometimes.
"Well, for all its worth, I can sympathize with you Tala..." She gently tapped her foot, "During my time in the Eleventh and even within the Tenth, we were largely leaderless. I also know a thing or two about self-doubt.", she paused for a brief moment. "You say that you aren't sure if you hit your wall? Well. Let's find out together, then." The Captain couldn't help but smile as she looked at Tala. Turning 180° on her heel, Celes took a few steps back. Stretching arms behind her, Celes let her Captain's haori slide off of her upper body and caught it with her hand, twirling it.
Underneath her haori, Celes revealed a slightly torn sarashi that bound her breasts and some more wrappings that extended all the way to the girls' hands. Right above the girls' right breast rested a daffodil, the symbol of the Jūbantai. Additionally, if Tala paid close attention, he'd notice a litany of healed scar tissue which covered the woman's body. The Captain's legs were still covered by the sarashi, her Zanpakutō nestled within its scabbard, and she flicked her haori to the side onto a nearby tree branch. "I hope you don't mind. I find that my clothes sometimes get ruffed up more than I do."
"Since you're looking to test your mettle for Vice-Captaincy, I'll seal some of my power to match that level." Drawing her finger across the daffodil, the symbol lit up with a green hue, the color of Celes' reiatsu. The flower suddenly became encased in a pentagon as black vertical lines crossed over the flower, linking to the pentagon from side to side. The Captain took deep breaths over the next few moments, closing her eyes. Her even-tempered breaths slowed down a little as the daffodil's newfound hue began to slowly fade away.
Cracking her neck from side to side, and doing a few stretches, the girl's amber eyes stared into Tala's own. "There. This should do. Now a full-strength punch from me shouldn't kill you outright.", she spoke plainly. "This way we can appropriately gauge your ability to the level of a Vice Captain. Any comments, questions or concerns that I should be aware of before we start?" As she waited, the woman walked over to the tree where she had flung her haori and knelt down. Opening a brown satchel which sat at the base of tree, Celes rummaged through it before pulling out a little vial. Squeezing the top, the girl downed the amber liquid which peacefully sat in the container. If she was going to truly test Tala's abilities, then she'd have to use what she had at her disposal. Tossing the empty bottle back into the bag, the woman returned to face the Seventh Seat.
Sliding out her foot and striking a cat stance, the Captain of the Tenth Division kept her eyes trained on Tala as her breathing became focused. "So then, Seventh Seat of the Sanbantai. Let's see if you can overcome your limits." A small smile crept up on her face. "And don't hold back. We can't see what you're made of otherwise. Understand?" She softly hummed, waiting for Tala to give her confirmation. "Then hit me, if you can~", the Captain teased playfully.
Description: The Denryokuseigen Limiter is a technique that has many forms and variations across many different factions and entities. The most well known version of this technique exists as part of the Gotei 13’s general regulations for its strongest members. While different factions have different Limiters and some individuals may even develop or have developed specific Limiters for their individual reiatsu level, the concept behind them is the same. The Denryokuseigen Limiter is used to either forcibly seal the power level and offensive strength of an individual in order to limit the chance of collateral damage, or it is used voluntarily to assist those who may travel to heavily populated or other protected areas in limiting their strength.
Generally the seal itself is unable to be detected save for those with at least 300 ES, unless it is in the process of being unlocked or has been unlocked entirely. The seal, when active, limits an individual’s offensive power while retaining their durability. Strength is limited for the purpose of striking power and kinetic motion, but is not limited for the purpose of physical durability. Speed is affected by limiting both physical speed and speed otherwise enhanced by abilities and step techniques. Reiatsu Strength is limited by affecting the intensity and magnitude of an individual’s spiritual techniques, but does not prevent them from utilizing techniques that would require a certain amount of RS to perform - they simply perform a substantially weaker version. Limitations on Spiritual Pressure affect the ability to exert Gravitational Pressure on the user’s surroundings and the ability to use Cutback offensively, but does not affect one’s natural Cutback potential. Limiters generally do not affect sensory stats at all.
How to Use: All Denryokuseigen Limiters consist of three parts and are spiritual in nature. The first part of the Limiter is the frame of the seal. This usually takes the form of a shape, generally a square or a circle, but it may be any frame. The second section of the seal is referred to as its ‘chain’ or ‘lock’. This often takes the shape of a series of lines crossing the frame. The number of lines generally determines the overall strength of the seal and how many ‘stages’ one must go through in order to fully unseal themselves, but not always. Some individuals may break through all of the chains of the Limiter at once, and other seals may be substantially more durable. The final section of the seal is its core - this is the section of the seal that effectively holds the sealed power of the individual.
Each level of the seal is released with a command phrase - usually Kaijo (Releasing). Depending on the seal itself, it may be released in stages or all at once.
Drawbacks: There are generally no drawbacks that come with releasing a limiter seal that has been placed on an individual, though the effect it has on the user’s surroundings may be disastrous, especially if they were sealed in order to improve their self-control or to limit collateral damage. Some factions may impose limiters onto their members and reckless unsealing of their limiter may result in other faction-specific punishments (I.E. Reprimanding and punishment for a Shinigami Captain or Vice Captain for recklessly unsealing their limiter).

Tala felt the weight of Celes' words, the earnestness in her eyes as she sought to understand his motivation. The notion of self-doubt and the desire to prove oneself resonated deeply within him. As Celes shared her own experiences and offered to find out together whether he had hit his wall, Tala couldn't help but appreciate the camaraderie she was extending. The genuine understanding in her eyes made him feel seen.
Tala observed Celes' preparations with a focused intensity as well as a mixture of curiosity and respect, noting the distinct change in her demeanor as she tapped into her spiritual power. The way she removed her haori, revealing the scar tissue that told tales of battles fought, and the deliberate sealing of her power for a fair evaluation left him nodding in acknowledgment. The revelation of her daffodil seal intrigued him, and he recognized the significance of her adjusting her strength to match that of a Vice Captain for their spar. As Celes shifted into a cat stance, Tala couldn't help but feel a surge of anticipation mixed with a touch of anxiety.
The Seventh Seat's grip on his double-bladed staff tightened, and he adjusted his stance, adopting a foundational bojutsu posture. The staff's twin blades shimmered with latent spiritual energy as he prepared for the impending clash. "Understood, Captain Celes," Tala responded, a newfound determination flickering in his eyes. "I appreciate the opportunity to face someone of your caliber. Even at just a Vice Captain's level." He then shook his head as she questioned about any concerns or questions he might have.
"So then, Seventh Seat of the Sanbantai. Let's see if you can overcome your limits. And don't hold back. We can't see what you're made of otherwise. Understand?" As she had smiled and hummed, he quickly gave her a nod of acknowledgment, signaling that he indeed understood. When Celes challenged him to hit her without holding back, Tala's analytical mind kicked into gear. He decided to initiate the spar cautiously, testing the waters before committing to any aggressive moves. Adopting a defensive stance with his double-bladed staff, he began to circle Celes, keeping a safe distance. His eyes, sharp and calculating, scanned for openings, looking for patterns in her movements.
As he circled, Tala decided to start with a feint, thrusting the staff toward Celes's left side, only to redirect it smoothly to the right, aiming to gauge her reactions. His approach was methodical, each move measured, and every step deliberate. Tala focused on analyzing Celes's responses, seeking to understand her fighting style while keeping the spar controlled and respectful. If he wanted to try and get his first move off on her, he'd need to get past her defenses to touch her. Which meant figuring out her overall and reaction speed.

Celes' eyes rested on Tala as she told him not to hold back. She had recognized that the Shinigami experienced a bit of self-doubt in his own skills from the last time they sparred. She was intrigued to see if he had improved. The lime-haired woman wanted Tala to come at her with all he had. Otherwise, there was little point in gauging his abilities. In the same vein, Celes would be careful to give him a challenge, but not overdo it. As she watched his movements, she briefly extended her sensory out to the Seventh Seat, trying to gauge his spiritual power. As usual, she couldn't feel anything specific, but what she did sense was a dense spiritual ability not unlike Kimiko's.
The Captain made a mental note of that. "I could be susceptible to cutback with him, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there." As Tala took his stance, wielding a double-bladed spear, Celes was immediately intrigued. It appeared that Shinigami would attempt to brawl her in close quarters. A dangerous invitation for most who faced the Captain of the Tenth Division. Nevertheless, it was welcome. As Tala traced a circle around Celes, the Captain merely kept her eyes trained on him, adjusting her stance every now and again to continue facing him.
Continuing to circle, Celes noted a brief change in footwork. Decades of martial experience, with both weapons and hand-to-hand combat, made Tala's intention simple enough to read. A swipe to her left. As Celes tensed herself, ready to deflect from the right, it seemed that Tala had another plan in mind. Feinting to her left, the Seated Officer made a swipe at her right instead. "Tsk. Fair enough." Despite his feint, Tala was still much slower than Celes. She could see his movements clearly. Moving a hair faster than him, the girl bounced onto her left foot and raised her left knee. Her left arm came down to meet her knee before she tensed both.
Intercepting Tala's bo with her knee and arm, a basic block, The Captain briefly felt the impact. She gave no visible reaction of pain. Instead, Celes' amber eyes met Tala's. Gliding along the side of the spear, the Captain quickly bounced forward at 250 Speed. In one smooth motion, she attempted a stomp on the Seated Officers' nearest foot. It would only use about 300 strength so it would hurt, but not even severely break anything. Using her other foot, Celes slid it behind Tala's leg. As the coup de grace, Celes attempted to place her hand against Tala's chest. Hopefully with all the pieces in place, Celes would attempt to push Tala back while sweeping with her foot. Each movement was seamless and had practically no error.
If the girl was successful in her attempt to knock Tala on his ass, she wouldn't stop there. Tightening her fist, Celes would drop down and attempt to slam her fist into Tala's chest. Again, this only utilized around 300 strength, but it wasn't about taking the Officer out quite yet. Celes wanted to make it clear that she wasn't going to be playing games. The Seventh Seat wanted to know if he was worthy of Vice-Captaincy. It required a honed mind and had little room for weakness. If Tala was going to give her an inch, the Captain was going to take it a mile.

Tala, with an air of determination, watched Celes' movements carefully as they circled each other. When he initiated the spar with a feint, aiming for Celes' left side before redirecting to the right, he noted her swift reaction, a testament to her speed. The Captain's interception with a knee and arm block showcased her efficiency in close-quarters combat. When Celes countered by attempting to stomp on his foot and sweep his leg, Tala instinctively shifted his weight, attempting to evade her movements. However, the seamless sequence of her attacks caught him off guard, and he found himself stumbling backward. The Captain's hand on his chest and the subsequent push sent him reeling, and before he could recover, the slam to his chest added to the impact.
Tala, while recognizing Celes' display of strength and precision, maintained his focus. His analytical mind processing information, noting the swiftness of her movements and the calculated power behind each strike. Celes was a true powerhouse and a quick one at that, a fact that he had learned during their last training and was very obvious to those who clash with her. However she was also a very skilled martial artist, able to make proper use of her strength and speed. This made Tala's plan a little more difficult to execute.
Or at least it would have if he hadn't reached out to try and grab her arm to stop himself from falling onto his rump, a look of temporary panic and pain on his face. However this worked out perfectly if he was able to get a hold of her, as he cast the bakudō without any incantation or words. He planned on being able to do mental incantations later down the line but for now he would have to make do with wordless casting as he releases his reiatsu from the hand that was grabbing Celes' arm, at least if she hadn't broken the grip or dodge his grab, both of which were very likely but there was still a small chance.
Once the reiatsu was released, he'd quickly let go of her arm and continue to stumble back as Celes' would feel her arms being pulled against their will, restraining themselves behind her back. As he stumbles back, he'd quickly spin around on the heels of his feet, rebalancing himself to prevent his fall, and assume a defensive stance to watch whether he was correct in his assumptions or if his efforts were even able to get through.
He wouldn't observe for too long though, as he'd learned before, when he'd accompanied Captain Tsuyoshi to evaluate one of the Academy students, that a martial artist entire body is a weapon to be wary of. He'd restrained her most useful tools but she still had her legs and that meant she was still dangerous. So he'd choose to move before she could, using a Shunpo to jump away from his current position, aiming to land on the roof of a nearby barracks, whereupon landing, he'd swing his zanpakutō and send a wave of heat towards where he'd just been as well as using a couple more swings to send four more out to carpet the area between where he'd been and where Celes was. As each wave of heat lands on the ground, a small blasts assaults the area, scorch marks cover the ground in a five foot radius for and soon anything in the area slowly begins to burn with small flames.
Technique Description and Effects: Causes the target's arms to lock in place behind their back.
How to use technique: Physical contact is required from the hand of the caster to any part of the body of the target.
Incantation and Effect: Incantation increases the strength behind the technique by 10%. (I.E. A reiatsu strength of 100 would instead be valued at 110 for this technique.) "Man, shaped by Divine hands, revert to the form before limbs, clutch at your own throat and be afraid."
{Hearth's Warmth}By controlling and combining the heat that Hestia gives off with his own Reiatsu, Tala is able to launch a wave of intense heat towards his target when he swings his zanpakutou. It travels at a speed of 300 and all flammable objects will be set aflame. Once it hits it's target, it will feel like a small explosive has gone off and leave second degree burns.
Drawbacks: Cost 100 reiatsu to use. This technique can also be noticed quite easily as it does appear as a heat vapor. As long as someone has a 50 in Instinct or Energy Sensory, they will be able to notice it. The burns can also be pushed through with Heat Tolerance 2.
