Name: Body Modification - Finger - Acid Cannon

Description:
The user’s finger is modified, allowing acid bursts to be shot from the fingertip; the mechanism is connected to the user’s blood, and uses its iron content to create the highly acidic substance. Iron is ionized in the process, which means magnetic forces can both attract and repel the metallic acid.

A volume of half a cubic meter of acidic substance is propelled each time this item is used; whenever such a projectile is in motion, it will reach 50 meters without any vertical fall, will continue up to 80 meters with minimal falloff and will then begin dropping heavily beyond that, requiring to arc the trajectory to hit a farther target. The maximal range is 100 meters, beyond which the momentum is no longer enough to carry it further.

The acid is reactive to flames, and will explode violently if exposed to it. Should this occur, the explosion's OS is either equal to this item's IP plus an additional 50 IP + 25 per class, or equal to the flame's OS; whichever is higher. The explosion’s basic Offense Type (physical or spiritual) will always match the flames.

Luna's Body Modifications are tied to a body part, and can be applied individually to any of them a character may have. Multiple Modifications cannot be applied to the same body part simultaneously, but if a character has multiple instances of that body part, the Modification applied to each can be different.

Like all other Body Modifications made by Luna, this item follows a few unique rules due to its biological nature.

• This item has no durability, but can instead be disabled; the exact conditions are specific to every Modification.
• This item can be restored through healing the character; however, methods used to repair item durability will fail.
• This item will be considered destroyed if a thread ends while it remains disabled. Normal rules for item destruction apply.

This Body Modification falls into a disabled state when:
The corresponding finger has received any damage, or has been disconnected from the body.

This Body Modification returns to a functional state when:
The corresponding finger has been fully restored, and is currently connected to the user's body.

Additionally, this Body Modification has the following drawbacks specific to it:
Each use will drain some of the user’s iron content in their blood (this should be seen as the weapon’s ammunition); iron content will be lowered by 2% for every shot.

The acid’s chemical reaction is highly dependent on ambient heat; particularly low temperature will therefore halt the reaction entirely.

Since the acid will explode if exposed to flames, managing to burn the finger while it attempts firing will cause a chain reaction resulting in the loss of the user’s entire arm. Note that this only applies while the finger is actively firing; acidic content is not passively stored inside the finger.

Iron deficiency causes the following problems for the user:

• At 50%, the user may experience effects such as shortness of breath, a pale skin or feeling slightly dizzy; these effects have no direct impact on combat and are superficial enough to be ignored, but are warning signs of the incoming dangers and can be used to flavor one’s roleplay.
• At 40%, weakness begins settling in; this translates into a 25% reduction to the user’s strength stat.
• At 30%, the user will feel greater fatigue than usual; fatigue-inducing actions will now count as double. At this threshold, the toll of this increased fatigue is temporary, and will go away if the user recovers enough iron to return above the threshold.
• At 25%, lightheadedness begins being felt; this translates into a 25% reduction to the user’s instinct stat.
• At 20%, the greater fatigue gains that occur below this threshold and due to iron deficiency are now permanent during the thread, and will not recover even if the user returns above this threshold; a period of long rest or the usage of a technique recovering stamina (ex: Kaido #53, Kiss of New Breath) will however revert this additional exhaustion.
• At 15%, weakness is intensified; this translates into a 50% reduction to the user’s strength stat and a 25% reduction to the user’s speed stat.
• At 10%, lightheadedness is intensified; this translates into a 50% reduction to the user’s instinct stat and a 50% reduction to the user’s speed stat.
• At 5%, the user is left nearly immobilized and has immense difficulty inhaling. Their concentration is also heavily impacted, preventing them from partaking in complex tasks.
• At 0%, the user's blood becomes unable to carry oxygen; without treatment, this will result in going unconscious after one post, and will soon be followed by death if left without treatment for five posts.

Threshold effects take effect immediately when reaching or falling under their threshold but, when iron content is recovered, they do not immediately dissipate; rather, they will vanish one at a time, once per post, from the lower threshold upward. An individual with 200 HE or above can stimulate the production of iron through the green aura they may now generate, recovering 20% for every 5 continuous seconds of application. Whenever multiple items use iron content and these deficiency thresholds, they share the same resource and threshold progress.

Name: Body Modification - Finger - Flamethrower

Description:
The user’s finger is modified, allowing a stream of flames to continuously be shot from the fingertip; the mechanism is connected to the user’s blood, and uses its iron content to create these flames. Iron is condensed into a matter made of dense spiritual particles, which is then ignited; flames are therefore spiritual by nature, but may regardless affect physical objects.

The range of a stream of flames from this item can reach 50 meters in length, but takes a moment to reach its full potential; mechanically, the flames move at 300 speed while undergoing such motion. Bursts of flame lack enough fuel to extend a full 50 meters, and will therefore only reach 25 meters at most.

When left alone in the environment, the flames will continue burning for a duration of three posts; if there is matter dense enough within range, the flames may spread and push beyond their initial duration. Due to their spiritual nature, they can also stick to air ground and burn in midair, if there is any in the surroundings.

Name: Body Modification - Finger - Mantis Claw

Description:
The user’s finger is modified, allowing a powerful punch-like blow to be emitted from the fingertip; the mechanism involves the finger’s joint being turned into a pneumatic lever along a series of biological springs, far surpassing normal punching capabilities of the average human even while the finger remains at a complete standstill.

Several microscopic hollow areas along the finger will trap air and force it to collide with the mechanism while it is in motion, generating a strength-based shockwave when its IP is equal or above 600, the normal strength requirement. For strikes below 600 IP, a shockwave may still be produced by charging the mechanism with reiatsu, which will condense the air within; such an act costs its user 50 reiatsu for every artificial shockwave generated.

Note that the item’s IP denotes the maximum force with which a blow can be performed, but the user may strike with lesser force if desired.

Each strike from this weapon is susceptible to the risks inherent with a normal punch and, most notably, the application of Cutback. Aside from the generation of a shockwave according to specific guidelines, it is meant to function just like a normal punch would, albeit an artificial one produced at standstill.

When this weapon produces a shockwave, the force generated by using it causes immense recoil for the user; if their strength is below the item's IP and they aren't anchored, the user will be sent flying in the opposite direction at a speed equal to the strike's IP.

Note that speed rules apply for all movements that may occur while using this item, such movements must be taken into account when considering the user’s stamina.

Name: Body Modification - Finger - Grappling Hook

Description:
The user’s finger is modified, allowing a set of nerves to be shot from the fingertip; the mechanism is accelerating the production of nervous strands, weaponizing them into a versatile array of grappling systems. Propelled nerves are soaked in a sweat-based mucus, protecting them from air friction while they are travelling in midair.

Nerves shot from this mechanism are initially attached to the fingertip, but can be detached by the mechanism at any point afterward; nerves formerly detached cannot be reattached. While a nerve remains attached to the user, it can reel in at a speed equal to its IP (allowing either the user to pull what’s caught toward them, or pull themselves toward the object if it’s anchored with the terrain).

While attached, a weak electric current will keep travelling through the nerve continuously; if it’s entangled around someone, this current will cause the muscles it is in contact with to spasm uncontrollably by constantly tensing and loosening up, gradually reducing the target's stamina and exhausting them. It will also prevent the involved limbs from freeing themselves directly by simply flexing the victim's strength, although a different limb of theirs may pull the nerves away and Strength of Will 2 is sufficient to momentarily resist the effect and counteract with the affected limb; if nothing is done and the victim remains affected over a period of three posts, their stamina should be interpreted as being depleted. Assuming the victim has a particular per-post limitation to their stamina because of their type, every post under this effect should also be doubled and never be counted as a form of rest.

The nerve’s endpoint can be fashioned into any single-point shape the user desires, before being shot from their fingertip. Non-exhaustive examples include hooks, anchors, bola weights, and so forth. Once shot, the endpoint of this specific nerve cannot be changed anymore.

Note that the item’s IP denotes the maximum speed with which the mechanism can pull on an attached nerve, but the user may choose to pull at a lesser speed if desired.

If the nerve is either cut or detached through combat, the mechanism requires a full post before the next nerve is ready for use; attempting to use it before then will not produce satisfactory results.

Note that speed rules apply for all movements that may occur while using this item, such movements must be taken into account when considering the user’s stamina.

Name: Medical - Iron Shot

Description:
A very small syringe several centimeters in length contained in a protective capsule. Jab anywhere and press down on its central button to instantly refill iron content in the target’s bloodstream by half the regular level (up by 50%), recovering immediately from the lowest deficiency threshold currently afflicting them.

Drawbacks:
This is a consumable item and will be lost once used, regardless of thread rating.

Iron content in excess is lost once this item is used; it will never exceed the 100% threshold.

Iron content can only be restored a limited number of times during a thread / between long rests. Pain increases following each use, since the user's muscles are strained from the rapidly fluctuating amount of iron in their blood; this pain will eventually reach a threshold where it becomes too much to endure, causing them to fall unconscious. The limit is one use for a normal individual, increased by one for each SKP invested in Pain Tolerance; it therefore caps at six iron shots for someone with Pain Tolerance 4.

A short rundown of my thought process with balancing these, and what I'm trying to accomplish.

I'm basically attempting to build items that are meant to represent modifications to a person’s body, effectively weapons embedded directly inside someone’s frame; think more or less Mayuri’s arm he could shoot, or the scythe he pulled in his fight with Ishida Uryu. This is meant to be pretty much Luna’s specialty, and one I want to hone / expand upon over time; only difference is Luna’s modifications are meant to be fully biological (or nearly so, might be a button here or there), no metal mechanisms hidden beneath the skin or anything like that.

These are a very first iteration on such items, a set of various modifications to the fingers (and one to the nail); since this is biological in nature, I’ve had to take some creative liberties with the concept of durability, hopefully you will feel the compromises I’ve reached are balanced. More or less my thought process was that I didn’t want durability to be involved at all, because durability inherently defines a resistance (even when it’s kept really small) and works in relation with item IP, which would lead to problems; I want these items to still get cut through like normal flesh, they shouldn’t provide any form of additional resistance whatsoever (unless the modification is specifically meant for defense). Instead of the normal durability associated with items, these ones are ultimately tied entirely to living flesh so what would usually be related to durability I’ve rerouted to work in relation with the user’s condition / damage, most importantly in relation to item destruction; it does give this kind of item a strong synergy with healing, but I feel that's thematically appropriate given what they are and that they lose out on several other benefits usually related to items as a result.

Next special mention, I’ve explicitly defined that each modification is locked as its lowest Class option for clash purposes; this is a small pet-peeve of mine to ensure they would remain balanced every step of the way. Without that clause, it’d mean these modifications would scale up in Class according to the version bought, which throws the clash rules into a really weird spot since these are meant to be weak, entry-level modifications; however, if the item was singularly Class 6 and nothing more, it’d also mean the modification would be completely outclassed in terms of OS by everything at higher Class, which I feel isn’t a desirable result either. By doing things this way, it simultaneously ensures the item can have enough IP to correctly clash with attacks of a similar Class, while guaranteeing a Class 6 character cannot buy an item considered equal to his Class but with IP far above what anyone of his Class should be able to wield as an OS.

One more quick mention regarding the whole iron deficiency drawbacks and mechanism, you may feel when looking at these items and the percentages they each consume that the numbers are somewhat low, for now this is normal; I’m planning for iron to be a common resource used by several modifications and the consumption will vary based on how strong each modification is. Since these ones are weak (in regard to their Class) and somewhat simple in their application, I’ve kept things small; percentages will ramp up quickly for projectiles of higher Class and with crazier / harder to avoid delivery methods.

That’s basically my thought process; I’m expecting these will take some back-and-forth before we confirm how to handle this sort of bodily-oriented modification, so I’m putting my reasoning out here to help us with that and provide a common ground we can start iterating with.

Acid Cannon - First question: how big is the acid blast, and what is the range? Second, you mention its interaction with flames, and I just want to clarify the wording: in the explosion, is the flame's OS -added- to the attack if it is higher, or does the attack just take on the flame's OS in the explosion so long as it is higher? I feel it reads as the former but just want to make sure!

Also thank you for the iron deficiency chart for each item. The only one I want to question is the 20% tier - you mention the exhaustion becomes permanent even if you go back above the threshold, but your drawbacks note that the tiers are removed going from the bottom up. Does it just skip that one? And is there a way to recover beyond that point at all, like a long rest between threads/healing? Finally, on the note of healing, can HE or healing techniques be used in-battle to recover from this at all?


Flamethrower - Need a range, and a small clarification: I'm assuming the flames still burn physical matter despite being spiritual? You lean heavily into the latter, so I just want to be sure!


Mantis Claw - Given there's no inherent cost for the air-based shockwaves in the form of your usual iron deficiency and whatnot, I'd like a small Reiatsu cost to be applied for the use of this. It can be small, like 50 Reiatsu per use.


Grappling Hook - this is the first one we're going to need some work on, particularly the nature of the shock and its effect. I would like this to be a Classless check - raw strength should be enough to overcome the spasming (or Strength of Will, if you'd like to use a skill) as long as a certain threshold is met. Additionally, the ability to create things like a net can be problematic, because by your current standards, a net can be thrown over someone and completely disable them physically because multiple areas of the body are being spasmed, and potentially could be argued to drain all stamina in a single post if even a single limb can do so over three posts. Let's limit the number of available ending types to single-point types (things such as bola weights would still qualify, as it's a single point on each end).


Injection Nail - no problems, approved!


Iron Shot - I don't think it should be a full restoration, maybe something like 50% instead; it's still very useful, because that's anywhere from 25 (acid shots) to 18 (per-post flamethrower uses) re-uses, but a Class 7 item shouldn't negate the over-time drawbacks all at once.

I've defined range brackets and the ballistics involved, and added a volume of half a cubic meter to the acidic substance being fired. For the second half, good catch, I've re-read that part and I can see that the wording got really confusing; the intention is for the explosion's OS to either be (item's IP + 50+25 per class) OR flame's OS, those parentheses didn't really convey properly through the wording. Example, with the Class 6 version of the item, the explosion's OS would be the highest between 250 (200 item IP + 50) or the flame's OS; a flame with 600 OS would therefore cause a 600 OS explosion, whereas a flame below 250 would result in a 250 OS explosion.

Let me know if there's maybe a better way to word that, but there's a bit of a misunderstanding with the permanent exhaustion; it's not the drawback itself that becomes permanent, it's the exhaustion caused by it. Let's give a scenario as an example to distinguish the difference between the temporary and permanent extra exhaustion, let's say a character is at 25% iron (so they've hit the threshold for the temporary extra stamina drain), if they move at a speed of 600 for a post, it'd count as if they moved at that speed for two posts; let's say now the character goes down to say 15% iron, they're now below the permanent threshold, they move at 600 speed again for a post, this again counts as two posts (so now we're at four total). If they recover iron and recover from the effects of both thresholds, their stamina will count at that point as if they had moved three posts at 600 speed, instead of two or four (both posts moving at that speed, plus the post from permanent exhaustion; the post from temporary exhaustion is now gone); in this situation now that the permanent exhaustion threshold isn't active, moving at 600 post counts once again as only one, even if you have been below the threshold previously.

On the topic of healing, yeah that'd make sense I've defined better (and more explicitly) some interactions between this mechanic and various healing methods. A period of long rest should definitely restore any effects from permanent exhaustion and I can see why that led to confusion, they're rather meant to be permanent within the context of a thread; I've also added a clause that healing techniques specifically meant for stamina recovery would get rid of this exhaustion build-up. As for the iron itself, added some details about HE and how it would interact with this.

Also, for clarity's sake, I explicitly stated that if multiple items are used with this iron mechanic, they share the same iron content and thresholds; I think it was already clear this was meant to work that way, but there's no harm in mentioning it directly.

A flamethrower typically has surprisingly good range but the stream takes fairly long from being shot out the nozzle to reach its furthest range, so to convey that I've set the item's range to 50 meters but with a speed of only 300; this should allow our superhuman speed characters to dodge it fairly well if they want, which fits pretty well with how a flamethrower would feel like in combat. For the spiritual flames, yep, they would also burn physical matter; added a note regarding that, the reason I mention they're spiritual flames throughout the item is mainly so that they may interact properly with attributes or techniques that act or react based on spiritual matter.

Let me know if you're okay with this compromise, I've changed it so shockwaves are naturally generated at 600+ IP (which is equivalent to the strength requirement for them) and if the user wants to generate one artifically below that point, it'll require the 50 reiatsu cost be paid for it; reaching 600+ IP is only possible by purchasing either the class 2 or 1 versions. My reasoning is that the main intended drawback for the Mantis Claw is its recoil, when lacking the strength to naturally deliver that kind of punch; without enough strength, the user must either be anchored (which means immobile, a major drawback given how the site functions) or must accept they'll get thrown away at a decent speed and might very well crash into the environment as a result. At 600, that instant burst of speed translates into both an increased risk and a major stamina loss; for users who have enough strength to not suffer from the recoil, the drawbacks are diminished but there's also few upsides to using the item as well (a character who already has 600+ strength can already do everything the Mantis Claw offers), especially now that shockwaves would require a cost paid when below the normal strength requirement.

I've reduced the item to 50% as requested, but just worth mentioning, this item doesn't negate the iron drawbacks all at once; the item only recovers iron content back up but, as mentioned with the lists in the other items, when iron is recovered, thresholds go away one at a time each post. The overall design I'm aiming for is that the user should play a balancing act of "how deep am I willing to go with the thresholds" versus "when do I want to use my limited iron replenish items" versus "how slowly should I use my iron to maximize my threshold recovery while still reaching my goals"; iron is meant to be used seldomly when you have other options because it has a very slow & painful form of recovery by design, and digging yourself a hole through these thresholds will put a lot of problems on you over several posts, especially if the resource keeps getting further abused afterward.
