[smear:#ffd700]Behind Hollow Eyes[/smear:ffe34d]
And so it was that a lithely hollow-vulpine with golden yellow eyes was let set loose upon the world. Her Dear Hunter had cast her away, so free she was to roam; free she was to hunt. That narrowed golden gaze sheltering but potential prey as she stepped into the nights cold embrace. Once nameless; Umbra was her now given title. A name birthed and stolen from the partial consumption of Lumina Umbra: a Wolven Zanpakuto Spirit of Fate, a certain Wolf who’s powers now belonged to her.
For Umbra was once merely a Hollow leashed and imprisoned within the inner world of her Dear Hunter. But upon taking Lumina’s place she was freed, and yet now she felt a waning in her strength; wrought from her new freedom. That power she once held so easily dangling between her fingers like darkly threads. Now it remained sheltered inside the Hunter’s blade. A minor inconvenience; A price for her freedom. She’d learn to live without it, for her curiosity to explore would sate her hunger to hunt. At least for some time.
Over the first few days she had began to explore. She especially liked to the rooftops where she could see almost everything. The air was cold on her naked skin, as she stepped upon the air ground. A twitch of her nose alerted her to the scent of strangers looming below. Her pale form gleamed beautifully under the moonlight as she descended to the earth. She was graceful in her descent, her darkly hairs and bushy tail blowing lightly in the wind, as she finally touched ground. Curling her toes as her bare feet rested gently against the wet cement, and embracing the cold as it fully fell into her.
She’d pass strangers upon the street, her bushy tail gently swaying as she made her way past them. As a spiritual being she was invisible to the ordinary; the mundane. A naked woman would have been a shock if someone could have seen her. Especially as she resembled a fabled Kitsune of folklore. A smile slowly perked full-lips as she passed by a well lit window. Within, she saw various clothing on display mannequins. Top of the line garments. Consisting of well made suits, dresses, and the like.
Yet one in particular caught her eye. [smear:ffd700]“Oh my~ How beautiful.”[/smear:ffe34d] It was a fashionable black silk dress, cut in such a fashion that revealed the mannequins' upper thighs and cleavage. Umbra took one look at it and was smitten. Curling her fingers over one another she would suddenly pull them apart revealing shadowy threads of reiatsu in the form of a cats cradle. Moving her fingers she would delicately fashion the thread across her naked form, from head to toe. As she shifted the thread over herself a shadowy dress reflecting the one in the window, would rest against her once naked skin. Yet it wasn’t a perfect reflection. For minor edits were made to accommodate her otherworldly form; especially her bushy tail.
It was a new experience wearing clothing, but Umbra didn’t hate it. She posed in front of the window, admiring her reflection with glee. Her bushy tail waging back and forth, showing that lifting excitement. Her golden eyes gleamed brightly as She paraded out into the night bare footed wearing a darkly shadow dress. Coming across a small bridge she would leap upon the cool railing. Like a child she was carefree with her footing, her tail helping keep her balance as she posed looking out to the water below.
Parting her darkly hairs she could feel a pull Like a thread being pulled taut. [smear:ffd700]Hmm it seems he's called it forth. Tonight must be tough for my Dear Hunter[/smear:ffe34d] Umbra felt the connection closing her eyes, and when she opened them it was as if she standing in her Hunter's place. She glanced around herself for a moment as she eyed a hollow within the clearing of a forest. [smear:ffd700]So the Hunter hunts even still?~[/smear:ffe34d] Her words paraded in Aevus's mind.
Yet instead of charging forth she'd close his eyes with the control she had, before opening hers back on that cool railing; leaving her Hunter alone with but a taste of her instinct. She could control him completely but that would be a waste. She had already tested that and it was rather boring and limiting on her behalf. Especially for she was already free to roam the world as she pleased. Instead she would nudge him faintly shifting their accord to one more fitting of a Hunter. He was still bound her; to the Fate of the Fox’s whims. Yet she merely gave him but a taste of her Instinct; the instinct of a Hollow whenever he doned that vulpine mask.
As she peered out across the water, it seemed that she was on the outskirts of the city. For a forest laid boundary to the surroundings, like a fence keeping livestock within. Fitting for she was the fox in the henhouse. The passing lights of cars cast shadows away from her face, until leaving her in darkness once again. Yet Umbra was at home in the dark, her previous home for years was an eternal night after all. Though the light of day was something the Hollow was curious to meet herself. Yet she was patient for she stood in shadows her entire existence. Once constrained to the boundary of her inner world, she could now explore at her leisure. And explore she would.
A Vermilion Torii gate stood out amidst the trees. The orange-red of it’s once lustrous wood had now given away to the forest around it. Vines curled around one of its beams reaching the black of its lintel. Umbra eyed it curiously as she passed through its gate. It was said passing through such a gate marked the transition from the mundane to the sacred. To Umbra she held no such beliefs or understanding of its purpose. She was just curious and it had caught her eye.
An old path warn down by use marked her way. She’d eye a statue of a fox inquisitively as she passed through the gate. Her golden eyes lighting up faintly from the stray shimmer of moonlight through the clouds. The fox held a key in its maw, causing her to tilt her head. Other Torii gates marked her way, and before her stood a spiraling stone stairway leading up a hill. Scattered amongst the steps were other fox statues, holding scrolls, jewels, and keys either within their mouths or under their paws. She didn’t understand the meaning, but she did appreciate the beauty as she walked up the path.
Reaching the top she came upon an old Japanese shrine. A traditional Japanese building also rested nearby. well lit with sliding doors. She could see human shadows dancing within. Perked ears twitched faintly from the sound of them talking amongst another. She could sense that many were spiritual in nature, holding powers perhaps unrefined. From this distance she couldn’t make out what they were saying but they suddenly stopped.
“Who’s out there!?” One of the sliding doors opened revealing an older man. The man wore a black suit with his graying black hairs pulled back into a man bun. His left hand curled around the sliding door, revealing that he was missing the last digit of his pinky finger.
Keeping to the shadows she’d s wrap herself in a cocoon of reiatsu to hide her signature from the man, her form shifting to that of a black fox. Golden eyes narrowed closely to the concerned browns of the older man who still peered around the darkness.
“What is it Taka?” Another man spoke up from within the wooden building. He was seated from what Umbra saw of his shadow. His voice was far older and gruffer than Taka's from the sound of it.
“My nerves must be getting to me Boss. I thought I sensed something just now.” Taka responded.
“Well, lets have my men look around just in case. You can’t be too careful when it comes to these sort of things.”
Umbra saw through the shadow of that sliding door that this 'Boss' had snapped his fingers. She could also hear it as it soundly made its way to her perked ears. Moments later about ten men in black suits began to skulk around the clearing of the shrine. All armed with firearms and what looked to be katanas. All held spiritual power in some way, yet to what extent, Umbra could only guess. Just who were these men? Such curious creatures. Nonetheless Umbra would ignore them. They were but dogs in service of an older master.
She was far more interested on what was happening inside between Taka and this ‘Boss’. Easily she danced between the shadows, until jumping onto the roof of the building. The men outside were non the wiser as she passed them by. And with a single tap of her paws of a wooden grate, she was inside atop the rafters. As she eyed the two, Umbra took note of their scent. Their breath reeked of sake and they were playing some game. Were they having some sort of celebration perhaps?
