Training for SP
The hospital had been quite accommodating. Mizu (orina) had been rather fortunate to wind up where she was, when she was. Of course she had not anticipated just how banged up Orina's body had been, or how weak she was inside of it. She was all but terribly crippled, something which worked to her advantage to be frank. Nobody questioned her. If anything they gave her plenty of time to recover and reassess her situation. The memory loss had been pretty well-received, and though the doctors assured her they would do their best to try and help her retain them, Mizu assured them that she had every confidence in them and that even if she never regained her memories, she had them to thank for her life. A sentiment her squad agreed with resoundingly.
Oh, that's right. Another parting gift from her sister. It seemed that Mizu had been accepyted into a squad before her untimely demise and Orina's takeover of her sister's life. More than a few male members of her new squad had come to visit her, soft smile and kind words, but all that same upbeat expression. There were even a few young ladies that visited her as well. Not just from the squad, but Mizu had evidently been the senpai of quite a few of her underclassmen. They all seemed to love Mizu. And deep down, it digusted her. They were the reason she was dead. How fucking...dare they. But of course that was all kept inside. Fear kept it bottled in.
As a shinigami, she was, apparently, afford3ed a great deal of freedom. Apparently they were well-known for their strong-headedness, and a penchant for sneaking out of hospitals. So the staff were fairly liberal. Even Mizu, bound to a wheelchair, was allowed to go out on her own, so long as she checked back with them by sundown. It was in this manner that she managed to go out and into the general rukongai. She wheeled herself along, taking frequent breaks thanks to her diminished physical strength and stamina. Even so, her determination ensured she made good time, and here and there a rukongai citizen would be nice to push her for a while, giving her some rest, all seeming rather taken with Mizu's lovely features. All she had to do was smile fondly and pretend it didn't tire her out. Seeing her trying to tough through it was even mroe effective than if she'd begged for help!
In no time she found herself in the outer districts, exhausted, but there. After much urging and assuring, she was finally left alone, with plenty of time to get back, plus a few hours to have to herself, as she reflected upon her situation. She was rather fortunate. The wheelchair was useable, which meant she could work out her body. Annoying as that would be. But not only that but she was in a very good squad. Captain Hotaru Kuchiki, she had come to find out over the past few days, was a curse to the men of squad ten. Gorgeous, rich, powerful, lovely, but also married. The men had quite a lot of pent up reiatsu if one was to catch their drift. And the sheer number of male visitors led her t o believe that the female of the division, limited as they were, seemed to get a lot of attention as a result.
This was good. It meant that she would have a lot of tools to work with. She would be patient. For the time being? She was already instituting a self rule. she could not, under any circumstance, eat a soul reaper. She could not risk it. A hollow or something else? If they escaped it would be inconsequential. But if a soul reaper somehow escaped her grasp? It would be all over. Very very over. There were rumors of some.....vicious shinigami, those well known for killing comrades. But the fact of the matter was that those individuals were pariahs. And that was something she could not afford. She needed these shinigami, much as she hated them. She would use them, and when she was strong enough, she would kill as many as she could, and then abandon them.
On the inside, this thought brought a sick, twisted glee to her heart. But alas, on the outswide, all anyone saw was a soft, forlorn smile as she watched the sun start to sink, not quite at the horizon, but certainly getting there. It was then that she noticed something in the distance. Her ability to detect spiritual pressure had been shot, but even SHE could sense the reiatsu of a release. A shikai? Was a shinigami fighting nearby? she decided to investigate, pushing her chair forward and making her way boldly toward that ruckus.
From afar, she could see that there had been a bit of a struggle, a shinigami lie dead on the ground, beheaded. But she had her rule, if she left any trace of having eaten this one, then she would be shit outta luck. But no, what DID snare her attention was the two hollows collapsed on the ground before her. They were panting, twitching, doing their best to stand, to crawl away. The shinigami had put up quite a stand, and she could even see several other slain and injured hollow off in the distance, and her heart suddenly raced. Yes! This.....this was an opportunity!
Promptly, she wheeled her way over to one of the injured hollows. It was weak, if she weren't so injured she doubtlessly would have been able to kill it herself. And already she could feel it's ragged breath growing faster, a hateful look cast in her direction. It SNEERED to her. Contempt clear on it's face as it trembled, struggling, unable to raise a hand to her. She couldn't help but smile down at it, a smile that cause it to suzzenly freeze. Concern written upon it's face. Slowly, Mizu shuddered and then slumped forward, as a void opened up along her spine. And that, is where Orina spilled out.
The small fish of a hollow dropped to the ground, and began slowly crawling along the ground, eyes glowing as she began to close in. Almost instantly the hollow broke into a panic, and it flailed, one of it's limbs lightly swatting her, but doing nothing to that armored bone exterior, not with how weak it had become. It sucked in air, panicking, but there was nothing it could do. Even with how weak Orina was. This hollow was weaker, and already with one foot in the grave. She crawled onto it's back, turned her head, and then CHOMPED down on the back of it's neck. The life left the hollow's eyes as it suddenly went limp, and she began to chomp, chew, and pull at the hollow's flesh.
It was consumed in a nice, slow pace, and she soon made her way over to the second corpse. This one was in even worse shape, and she was easily able to evade that weak flop of it's tail, a blade sinking into the ground beside her as she then turned and chomped. It let out a soft, sobing little whine as she severed the tip of that tail, chewing and swallowing the flesh before she latched onto it's hindquarters and began to chow down. She suffered several more bumps and whaps, but all in all, it was still alarmingly easy to consume the hollow in it's entirety.
But of course, being out of her lure for this long...she began to grow ....paranoid. already she felt stronger. A bit faster. A bit less slow in mind. She scuttled and wiggled, making her way back into the chair and into that void in her Lure's back. It was an almost instantaneous process, and 'Mizu's' eyes snapped open, sucking in air and suddenly sitting upright. Her body prim and without any damage to it. Not even a drop of blood, as all of the eating had been done in hollow form. She let out a slow, steady sigh and proceeded to begin looking around.
It seemed that the fight had taken place all over the area, one particular hollow had been thrown into a sort of dwelling, all but crushing the place inward. As she wheeled over though, she did not see any footprints escaping the building. Had the house been abandoned? Her answer came in the form of a soft, weak cry for help. And her eyes almost started glowing yellow in anticipation. She put on a worried look and promptly thum thum THUMP! She rammed down the door with her wheelchair, and looked around. The hollow had caved in the ground floor, showing what looked like a shelter cellar.
"Help please!"
"We have injured down here, please help us out!"
The cries came down from below, and wheeling up to the edge, she paused, brows liftnig in surprise, eyes widening, a look of alarm on her face, even if inside she grinned, in response to seeing the several souls trapped downstairs. Some of them injured by various splinters or bits of pipe. But all of them were....helpless. Trapped in that hole. "h...HOLD ON! I'll get some help! All of you stay down there and try to stay alive1 Stay away from anything that looks like it migh-AH!" The shout was genuine as the head of the hollow that had been thrown into the house suddenly moved, it's head lolling to the side, jaws opening, trying to get a meal, to try and heal itself, recover enough energy to escape.
But she raised here blade , the 'asauchi' pulled out of the crack in the side of her chair where her seat met the armrails. With a sudden STAB, that blade snagged, klinking off of it's armored head as she skidded back a little, her hand gripping one wheel to keep from tipping over, as cries of encouragement came down from below. She felt the hairss prickle on the back of her neck as she batted, stabbed, and swished at the hollow. She was slow, and weak, but the hollow was impaled in a doczen different places, and finally her sword sank into it's skull, it's body giving one last sigh before it went limp, and a cheer rose up from the souls down below. They were amazed that a cripple had managed to kil even a wounded hollow.
She panted, a little exhausted as she pulled her 'zanpaku'to' free and swung it, the blood flicking from the blade off to the side as she turned her attention to the hollow. And she moved....where those below could not see her. They continued to celebrate. Even from above she could hear them, congradulating eachother, saying how they were going to live. How they were going to make it. Even as Orina slithered out of her Lure, and began to crunch into that hollow body. As bite after wet, slurping bite began eating out the chest cavity, and suddenly, when she bit down particularly loudly, the cheering and merriment stopped.
And as she came to the edge of that hole, her glowing eyes staring down at them, she saw the horror on their faces. And she hated them. She hated the way they looked at her. The way their tone suddenly shifted. Because what...she was UGLY?! Because she was a monster?! Those eyes narrowed, and with a measured slowness..... she slithered down into that pit, as the people struggled to back away. To escape her. But they weren't going to be going anywhere. They weren't going to live to regret having drawn attention to themselves amidst that battlefield~
The first victim was an old woman, already trembling as her son tried to pull the thick plank of wood from his chest. Desperate to have something to fight her off with. But of course she simply slithered right up to him, evading the weak kick that his leg gave, to try and push her away, and then she chomped down on his knee. He screamed, thrashing weakly in agony as the others in the room screamed as well. She began eating her way up his leg, even as the one individual in that pit uninjured enough to do anything, ran over and began swinging at Orina with a broom.
Even as she chewed her way up the man's chest, she still swung away, sobbing desperately as she tore his heart out of his broken ribs, and swallowed it down. That bloodied face turned slowly, and she watched as the girl backed away. Four steps, until she saw Orina turn a disinterested gae away from them, and began adcvancing on the grandmother, whose breathing was growing even more erratic. Realizing this the girl was suddenly jolted into action. Charging at Orina, she raised that broom up above her head. Of course, Orina was a cripple still, but she had one thing on her side: Patience and anticipation. She was not that slow, so just anticipating, knowing, guestimating when that girl would suddenly find her nerve, she dodged that overheaded strike, watching as the broom broke off over the grandmother's head, watching it suddenly go slack to the side.
Several more of them screamed, and the girl just stared in horror at what she'd accidentally done. Long enough for Orina to round on her and suddenly SLAM her into the ground, using mostly her weight as opposed to her strength. The girl's eyes were still staring straight ahead. IT seemed that between watching what Orina assumed was her brother being eaten alive, and the mistake of her own slaying of her grandmother, this woman was just a hollow shell at this point. One that Orina chomped down on, right onto her head and neck, severing it from the rest of the body, which convulsed once before going deathly still. No struggling for this missie. And once that was done, she slithered over and chowed down on the old woman.
There was now two distinct sounds going on behind Orina. Slowly she turned, and she saw one of them, looked as young as a teenager. They were just sobbing, crying out for help. It was clear that they were at least an adult. Soul society was strange like that. They looked about 17, but no doubt they were older. They were just breaking down, crying for help, shouting, hoping that someone would hear them. Another was trying to break down the debris blocking off the stairs to the above. But Orina wasn't concerned. she knew that up above, the remnants of the hollow's tail was still laid across it from the other side. there was no way they could escape.
Slithering over to the crying one, she narrowed her eyes, watching as suddenly the pitch in those screams rose, and she actually winced in slight discomfort from the loud noise. But even so she continued to close in. A foot slapped her in the face, a weak kick as she snapped her teeth. She missed, forgetting that she could not rely on her normal reflexes in combat. She waited, watching the pattern of those kicks, and then, finally, her mouth opened up, and SNAPPEd onto the leg before it could impact her face. The soul screamed out and she dragged them to the floor, ignoring the cries now as she tore into their body and began her meal. The sound of hyperventilating being a soft little sort of back music.
When at long last that was done with, she turned to the last one. And she was a little impressed. They had clared a good bit of debris on their way up the stairs, still hacking and swatting at the junk wood that was covering the place, barring people from ascent. But Orina could crawl faster than he could bust through, and as she closed in, she winced as that stick slapped off of her mask, WAY too close to her eye for comfort. When that stick swung in again, she anticipated it, and she CHOMPED down, biting into it and suddenly lunging. Her teeth closed around the sou;'s wrist and they let out an almost silent strangled sob.
Ooh~ A fighter. She chomped, pulled herself forward, and continued biting, even as the person's hand scrambled, grabbing various bits of wood and trying to stab her with them. But they were just too weak. they managed a few mild scrapes and splinters stuck into the gaps in that fishy armor. It hurt, but she needed this fucker dead. They tried to pull their arm back. A big mistake. They underestimated how small Orina was, perhaps thinking that she was some kind of serpent. But she was deceptively small, and light. So as they pulled back ,they actually lifted her up into the air! Shge let go, and with a twist and a CHOMP! She suddenly dropped to the stair just below them, chewing as that body went limp, and slumped back. Missing the front section of their forehead and upper section of their face, chunks of brain dripping out of their damaged skull.
Orina went about, making sure to eat any remaining scraps, until finally she managed to slither her way back up, and finally slithering back into her Lure. She left that house, watching as the thing creaked. She would give it a few hours before the thing just outright collapsed. But in any case, she rolled away. Feeling....stronger. Nowhere near normal, but she felt better. worlds better, as she wheeled rapidly back, panting. It didn't take long for her to find the nearest inhabited group of houses. She shouted, calling out to them and leading them back to the gruesome scene. It was all like a dream~
The shinigami had clearly died making a stand. And the only people aside from them was some scattered rukongai bits, but no actual full bodies. They were all dead, and with somber faces, they began burying what little they could find, as some of them went to go and get the attention of shinigami. Not long after, they would arrive. One of the responding even recognized orina and asked her some questions. She gave a VERY abridged version. How she came upon the injured shinigami, followed by slain hollows, and then went to the nearest area she could find. She put on a good show, crying, sniffling and cursing her own powerlessness under her breath. The tears weren't all that difficult, her arms were KILLING her.
After all was said and done, they escorted her back to the academy hospital, a small dispatch would be going back there to recover the corpses and such, but "Mizu"? She was soon back in her hospital bed. Doing worlds better, and even the nurses noticed. It was not a surprise. Scary situations and such things were not uncommon for helping shinigami grow. Her own growth, exaggerated as it was, for a shinigami? It was not that special, not in the slightest, and she blended in with .....more or less flawless efficiency. She refrained from smiling, but she still enjoyed it deep down. Getting away with eating so many souls, and only having to sob story her way out. She ate the hospital dinner with abject silence, even if she absolutely didn't need to exist, but yes.
Soon, she found herself dosing off, exhausted after all the fighting, all the killing, all the wheeling around, and most of all: All of excitement. She was exhausted. And with one of her squadmates (Concerned after her little close call) resting beside her bed, she too began to zone out and fall asleep. She dreamed of her sister, oddly enough, and she slept rather comfortably and long. It wasn't until the next day when she finally opened her eyes again, and she blinked, taking onyl a moment to look around at where she was. After all: this was home now. Home...was where she'd just about always bee now. Here....with so many shinigami, and so many opportunities~
