Coincidence? I think Not
It was his Sensei. Izanagi had to visit the old man. This man was the only father figure in his life. The sensei taught him so much, including helping his transition from dying to becoming a shinigami. There bond grew over time, even though the man was incredibly old. Izanagi never knew the exact age of his sensei, but he knew that he was incredibly old. Besides, even though the old man knew how to live with himself, it didn't hurt to help out around the place for a bit.
Sadly, Sensei lived in a derelict part of Rukongai, the city from which the souls lived. It was around the 65th district where Sensei lived. Izanagi used to live there as well- it was the only place he could sense when he first came into the world of Soul Society. As he moved there, he realized this place was a lot like the worst parts of Tokyo, with rampant crime, ganglords, and even worse folk who just cared for themselves and would do anything to show true power. They would harass his only father figure, and Izanagi would have to "protect" the house... even though the old man could pretty much do it himself.
As he arrived at the location within the old district, Sensei greeted Izanagi.
"Hello, Izanagi. Do you mind fetching me some food from the 30th district? Those special meatballs... I am craving them."
Before even muttering a greeting, or even a hello, how are you, the Old man already requested something from Izanagi. It was as if time did not pass for this man. Of course, the longer you live, the shorter time seems to go by. Izanagi could only laugh as he quickly hugged the old man before heading off too the 30th district. There was no need for much to be said- these two held a partnership, a friendship that would last forever. They had like personalities, which allowed them to share similarities.
As Izanagi entered the 30th district, he noticed the differences. This area was a lot nicer then where he was from. It seemed to be much akin to the suburbs of a japanese city. So much more different from the hellhole he was from. As long as they did not murder anyone, people in Rukongai could pretty much do anything without shinigami intervention. It is why these towns became so disgusting. Izanagi gripped his weapon a bit harder. But, he knew that this place was where he was from. He lived in Rukongai longer then he lived in the human world. The only difference is, this area was a lot nicer, and cleaner smelling.
As Izanagi passed the houses made of spirit-wood, he finally came upon the special meatball place that Sensei loved. He went up to the store window, buying the meatballs from the old man. Izanagi thanked the man, then proceeded to walk out, meatballs in bag in hand. As he walked out, however, he noticed a situation. There, he saw something he recognized from before- someone being harassed by a group of people. Coincidentally, it was a situation Izanagi had to break up a lot when he was alive in the human world- men harassing women. Clearly, this woman who was being harassed was extremely distressed. The tears could be heard from where Izanagi stood.
The scene boiled something within Izanagi's stomach. Anger flowed up, filling his head with thoughts of destruction. However, he was a shinigami, so he had to do things in stride. In suburbs like this, regardless of where you went, you will encounter people like this. Men who seem to be able to satisfy themselves only by belittling others, even if their situation is not much better. He wanted to beat the crap out of them, but held back. He walked up to them, however, and pushed his way to the front. He was much larger then these men. As a japanese man, he was already quite large. He was mixed with a bit of other races, as his parents were from different countries all together. He never asked, but he knew one of the countries probably was American. Nevertheless, his presence was clearly intimidating. Even as a shinigami.
"Leave this person alone. Now. Or face the consequences."
The threat was more like something of a movie. However, Izanagi had not been a shinigami for long, so clever sentences were not able to be quite crafted as intelligently as possible. It came with time, clever threats. But for now, Izanagi stuck with generic lines. Of course, it worked. The men stepped away almost immediately, knowing that before them was a great warrior who could end each of their lives instantly. They were cowards, as most harassers were. As they stepped away, Izanagi picked the woman up, and gave her a meatball.
"You alright?"
The woman hesitantly nodded. Before her, a shinigami, a royal in black clothing. They were the top of the line within Soul Society, and having one save her was beyond anything she could imagine, especially since she was a whore. However, Izanagi did not know this fact (like that would change anything, of course). She thanked him, quickly scurrying off into the building behind her. He grabbed a meatball out of the bag, and ate it. He nodded to himself, slowly walking off, carefully inspecting the area for other fights he could break up. When he did not see any, he just walked away, taking in the sights of a nicer Rukongai.
